So this week, Cain saw his buddy Rey's son get beat up and then got his ass kicked by Brock despite having Rey with him. Good start.

Exactly, sek. I see lots of stuff that I like on WWE programming. I just can't get to invested because I know it's not going to go anywhere.

I was thinking last night during Dynamite, that the promotion has some weak strikers. Then I remembered that they have Dustin Rhodes on the payroll. Get him working with those guys!
-
Lol. Cody found the only good use for Dippin’ Dots!

Your top baby face punching through a glass door to get to the heel is a little more bad-ass than cowering in a corner because the heel has a scary mask.

I finally get what people mean by “cosplay” wrestlers. When I would see Kevin Sullivan back in the day, I’d think, “Yeah, that dude is part of some satanic cult or something.” When I see The Dark Order, I think, “Those guys are going to go home and play video games.” Oh shit! I wrote that before I knew their finisher is called “The Fatality”. See. Video games.

Private Party are fun and have tons of potential, but man they need to work on transitions and their striking. There’s a lot of awkwardness moving from move to move. And there have been some forearms in this match that wouldn’t take the fuzz off a dandelion.

I think the perception is that if the person is cut from WWE (Hager), then they’re a cast-off. If they choose to leave (Moxley, Jericho, Cody, Dustin), then it’s a big deal. They chose AEW over the big guys.

I think the buzz around Power and AEW show how important presentation is. I mean, if put the rosters of WWE, AEW and NWA next to each other, I would have almost zero interest in AEW's or NWA's compared with the talent on WWE's roster. But when I actually watch the shows, I look forward to them waaaay more than any WWE programming.

I haven't been able to articulate my problem with WWE to myself, but this is it. You nailed it. It's a shame. They have an insane roster of talent right now. It shouldn't be so hard to make a good wrestling show. The problem is, they stopped trying to put on a good wrestling show a long time ago.

Is Cornette talking about the Lucha Bros tag? I thought it was as good as you could expect. I get that Stunt doesn't look like he could hurt anyone. And he actually didn't on his own the entire match. Any offense of his that worked was assisted by his partner or inadvertently by his opponents. When he attempted a move on his own, it was almost always caught. I think that's been a nice touch in his matches. I fell asleep during the show. Not their fault. I could've slept through a train rolling through my living room last night. I woke up for the finish of the main event. I like that they're keeping Darby strong. It's cool that they're seeing that the crowd is getting behind him, and they're doing something with it. Oh, and I did catch JR talking about being excited to go to Champaign, IL for their show. As a University of Illinois alum, it was cool to hear him putting us over. Also caught a quick shot of Cody in a U of I shirt during his video (which was excellent!). Between that stuff and the I Think You Should Leave reference, it's like they're gearing this show specifically to me.

Ha! Excalibur with the “He pulled the hair up, but not out!” call. Was not expecting a I Think You Should Leave reference on this show. Here’s part of the sketch it’s from:

I love the Janela character. I just don't feel like his matches play into that character. Too many "strong style" moments. He shouldn't be throwing German suplexes or brainbusters or having forearm exchanges. He needs to wrestle as the nutjob dirtbag he is. He should cheat and brawl and jump/fall off of shit. More Necro Butcher, less New Japan.

Good news! A couple days ago, Kingston said he's going to keep going. I agree that AEW should scoop him and Homicide up. Eddie's an amazing fucking talent. I'd love to see him on national tv.
-
He had a great match with Danielson (of course), and got some hype. Then he was part of a really cool debut for Age of the Fall. That's all I remember about him in ROH. Now, I wasn't really watching when he was champ there, but I think one of the keys was that he didn't talk much.
-
That is totally the impression I came away with. He made a face after the first attempt. He was clearly playing around.
-
Yes! That's a new weird trend popping up in pro wrestling discussions. People aren't criticizing this enough! I get that it's stemming from people getting excited for AEW as an alternative and maybe overrating them a bit, but c'mon. Wild idea, but maybe the people who watched this NWA show and came here to talk about it actually liked it? Maybe that's all there is to it?

I saw the title of this thread and thought, "Nah." Then I read your explanation in the other thread and you nailed it. So, does CM Punk = Andrew Luck then?
-
I started drinking every time one of you typed "cosplay", then I got alcohol poisoning and now I'm dead. Thanks alot.

Exactly. Plus, there’s hope with AEW. I like their show now. I don’t think it’s perfect. There are a lot of things they could do better. But at least there’s a chance they’ll learn from mistakes and get better. As long as Vince is in charge, WWE will never get better. I have no hope in my mind of that happening.

This is a great point. I'm terrible at making lists, but if you asked me to list my 20 or so favorite wrestlers, there would be a ton from WWE's roster and, honestly, maybe one or two from AEW's. But, I'd much rather watch AEW at this point. Just goes to show how much there is to wrestling other than talent.
-
Well, that looks like a fun show. I've never heard of that happening. Was it in Mexico?
