  1. Just what the hell does Vince hate him for, anyway? From what I know Vince just hates his accent and thinks it doesn't make his show seem "New York" enough. Is it that he hates him for getting over? Didn't he let Hunter bash his eye in and get away with it?
  2. Because his mortal enemy got way over and left the business for greener pastures without getting buried and many fans think of that guy as the greatest of all time and he was not anywhere near as possessed by the business as Hunter. It eats the guy up that every one of his buddies have real, natural charisma and he just cannot come across as interesting, witty, eloquent, or cool. So he'll wait until he's perceived by casual fans as the best even if it comes through attrition.
  3. I don't know, it was what I saw in my local paper. I really didn't pay much attention back then. I only knew Mayweather was at WrestleMania because I saw it on TMZ.
  4. If there's one thing pro wrestling should take from MMA it's how to structure a card. Most MMA cards focus on one big fight with a few contenders on the undercard and one or two smaller feuds mixed in. Today's pro wrestling cards try to throw everything at you in two hours, try to get everyone over in the shortest amount of time possible, and there's too much to keep up with. No one seems important because the main eventers are way over-exposed. Forgive me if that sounded too Meltzer-ish.
  5. Call me old-fashioned but they could try to explain angles during the actual live program.
  6. Was Floyd Mayweather really worth $20 million?
  7. Is this anything like what Kevin Nash tried to do to Nitro in 1999 where the first hour was simply promos and video packages? Along the same lines, what did the paying fans in the arena see during those times? Were they expected to watch video screens for an hour or so?
  8. Why do people assume that just because they think the character is cool that it could be "the most awesome/huge/incredible character ever"? This is WWE, they won't be writing Palahniuk for anyone. Most likely they would lose interest or just make him a goofy heel like Santino.
  9. Isn't that the way WWE is booked? Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho came in as heels but actually started to get over so Vince turned them face and cranked out the merchandise.
  10. I'm looking forward to another lethargic, chubby Hunter main event heel run.
  11. I think Vince only cares about merchandising/marketability now versus reliable star power down the road. DX was over so they get to beat the Spirit Squad every night. Vince rides every horse until it drops. He rushed to put the belt on Hogan in 2002 just to get a quick merchandise pop.
  12. Does anyone else like to think that Vince hesitates to really put someone over because in the last ten years or so... Chris Jericho quit to play in a band Jeff Hardy quit to play in a band/do drugs Eddie Guerrero died Chris Benoit murdered his family and then killed himself Brock Lesnar quit because of the schedule Goldberg quit because of the schedule Kurt Angle became addicted to drugs and refused to go to rehab Stacy Keibler became an actress Chyna thought she was a movie star Sable thought she was a movie star The Rock became a movie star Vince likes to own his talent and things like this likely mean he'll need years before he trusts someone is "WWE 4 Life" enough to get an Austin-level push.
  13. I don't recall the exact line from the DVD however Shawn said something like he was just trying to keep the match from sucking. And I'm almost certain Hulk loved every minute of that match.
  14. Two thoughts stirring in my mind. Keep in mind I have not seen either WrestleMania or Monday's Raw. Bret mentioned Davey Boy and Owen being proud of him after beating Vince? He really has no problem bringing up very real deaths to get over a storyline? Does Triple-H ever notice that he keeps wrestling the same plodding, methodical style and none of his matches are ever remembered as fondly as The Undertaker's, who actually adapts his move set and has made many improvements in overall work rate? Does he still think he's this generation's Ric Flair or is he content to let Shawn have that title?
  15. I used to be a huge Flair mark however these days I wish he would just go away.
  16. My mark friend, Chris (the one who thinks WWE needs to hire Marcus Bagwell) cannot understand why TNA isn't beating WWE on Monday nights. He thinks TNA should be beating WrestleMania by now.
  17. Okay, Dave's new shtick has finally become more annoying than Wade's old "Mainstream Mention of Pro Wrestling" posts.
  18. Meanwhile the press at large has no problem with Borat or Bruno because they parody their impressions of right-wing tea partiers. If plot lines similar to WWE were featured on critically acclaimed fare such as The Office or Community there would be no venom because they can feel smart watching those shows.
  19. I'll have to look at Nigel's ROH work, then. When I see him in TNA I see a jobber's windbreaker and a guy trying to look cool in outdated sunglasses.
  20. I'm not familiar with Danielson's work and had never seen Nigel McGuinness before TNA. I don't understand why smarks think decent to great workers can only be presented as serious, legitimate shooters. Do they not understand anything about this business? Has there ever been one successful wrestler with a completely bland character? That said, I don't understand the hype around McGuinness (he is Desmond Wolfe in TNA, right?). He looks goofy to me with the shaved head, little sunglasses, and Walmart windbreaker. His ring work is dull and he cuts promos that evoke memories of Sid Vicious. Am I just missing something?
  21. How often has WWE used the "one wrestler drives a car into another's car" plot device? Have they already lost interest in the Bret-Vince feud?
  22. As a teenager I was one of the most voracious wrestling fans you could find. Today, I have a stack of DVDs and a wealth of files on my hard drive I've yet to watch. I can make myself watch a few matches here and there and I do pay attention to the current product, though chiefly through web sites. I did attend the last WWE card that came to Sacramento, the Bash PPV. It's not that I don't enjoy wrestling, I still do. I guess I've found myself more interested in other things within the last seven years or so.
  23. Almost every WWE "concept" program (i.e., Livewire, Shotgun, Confidential) quickly just becomes either a straight wrestling or clip show. The only "concept" program that worked was Raw and the only "concept" there was an entire program of storyline-driven professional wrestling.
  24. I haven't seen the shoot video but I got that sense from his quotes on The Rise & Fall of WCW. What's up with his burial of Jeff Jarrett? Mad because he doesn't work for TNA?
  25. WrestleMania VI, Hogan traps Warrior in a front-facelock. Gorilla Monsoon: "What a punishing hold this is!" Jesse Ventura: "Absolutely, just ask Richard Belzer." WWE edited that line out of every release of the match until the WM XVIII bonus features.
