Loss Posted December 24, 2010 Author Report Share Posted December 24, 2010 Lawler agrees to team with Dundee not because they're best of friends, but just because it's a business proposition and Lawler thinks winning the tag titles will put him in a good position to get a rematch against Jarrett. Of course, you can't expect a bad match with these four, and halfway through, Lawler gets into the match and starts sneaking in a few cheapshots. PeteF3 Posted January 30, 2015 Report Share Posted January 30, 2015 Lawler calls out the other babyfaces, including the Cyberpunks and Dave Brown, for not coming to his help when Frank Morrell faked that heart attack. He starts on the level, stressing that it's just business and not personal with the Cyberpunks, but he and Dundee work as subtle heels for this, and Dundee ends up using a chain to net them the tag titles. Dave informs Lawler of this, and Jerry teases that he's going to be upset about it...but decides that a title belt is a title belt and gloats to the Cyberpunks anyway. We've all talked about the lack of a babyface equal to Lawler in 1990 Memphis...but now, even as the promotion is dying, it looks like it may have its men this time. Lawler immediately draws boos from the studio crowd for associating with Dundee and they're behind Fire & Ice all the way. This should be quite the interesting development. Anyway, the subtelety of feeling like no one helped him set the stage here. As the match progresses, we get more and more cheating culminating in a chain being used to secure the win and tag belts for Dundee and Lawler. USWA in 1996 feels unique with longer studio matches than I can remember throughout the decade and strong storytelling overall. **1/2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
