Loss
Doug Gilbert now wants to be called The King of Rock instead of Doug Gilbert, and laments that brother Eddie is not in the studio today when they're supposed to get a tag title shot against the Harris Brothers. Eddie finally comes out to explain his absence. He says he flew in from Philly a few weeks ago and Doug wasn't there to pick him up, and there was a message getting off the plane not to go anywhere, but just to stand there and wait. Then, Eddie looks up at the TV in the airport and Doug is badmouthing him. Eddie kinda puts him in his place and then says they should finish this up by going to the back and talking this out (a Memphis clue that a beatdown is about to commence), and Doug ambushes him. Later in the show, Eddie is out with Eddie Marlin to announce that Doug Gilbert vs Eddie Gilbert will be taking place at Mid South Coliseum. Eddie does a semi-somber promo about this. shoe
Such a Memphis staple. Eddie is the king of segments like this.
Kevin Ridge
Doug Gilbert is now the king of rock and roll. And here’s Eddie as he interrupts Doug and tells him to shut his mouth. Doug attacks Eddie! Marlin sets the match between the brothers.
PeteF3
Terrific promo from both guys. Doug is ready to slap Eddie around the next time he's late for a match, but quickly changes his tune when Eddie makes a surprise appearance in the studio. Eddie gives Doug a public dressing-down, but makes the mistake of asking Doug to walk to the back to talk the situation out, and naturally Doug clobbers him from behind. That sets up Eddie vs. Doug at the MSC this week. Hard for anyone to touch Eddie on the stick but Doug did a good job of keeping up with him here. WingedEagle
Pretty solid promo from Doug Gilbert before Eddie makes his way out to confront him. Doug jumps him and Eddie Marlin announces Doug vs. Eddie at the MSC. Fun stuff and Doug certainly held his own on the mic here.
soup23
Like seeing these two together as Eddie always helps elevate Doug in my eyes. Doug has a new monikor that he wants to work out. Tons of families colliding at MSC around this time.
garretta
It's about time that Doug begins to make his own way in the world, but since he's not up to the level of guys like Lawler and Jeff yet, working against Eddie's the best he can do. I liked the idea of Doug coming out as the King of Rock just to show that, like Eddie, he's the king of something. Of course, we all know that Eddie's not the King of Wrestling either, but as he says himself, he's done a lot more to try to earn his title than Doug has. It's a shame in a way that the WWF angle is taking over the USWA (with help from the Lawler family squabble), because this would have felt like a much bigger match three months ago than it does now. I'll be interested to see where the Gilberts go from here, because if Eddie in particular's going to be a player going forward, he's going to have to get involved with whoever Vince sends down in a given week; feuding with Doug isn't going to get him much.
