Loss
Use this thread to plead the case for all your favorite tag teams. Ideally, having 64 teams would be the way to go, but if we have less, we'll narrow that down to 32 teams. Have at it. 1985-2005. All American promotions. Loss
Here's a going alphabetical list and I added in a few more teams. To explain, I gave two entrances for the Freebirds and MX since both were separate, long-term (1-year+) teams and gave one entrance to teams with interchangeable partners (La Res, 3 Count, etc). There are 77 teams listed below and 13 of them need to hit the bricks. I'll give my picks in the following post. 3 Count (Shane Helms/Shannon Moore/Evan Karagias) Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch Arn Anderson & Bobby Eaton Bad Company (Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond) Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes Beverly Brothers/Destruction Crew/Minnesota Wrecking Crew II (Mike Enos & Wayne Bloom) Booker T & Goldust Brainbusters (Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard) Brian Pillman & Tom Zenk British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith) Chavo & Hector Guerrero Chris Adams & Gino Hernandez Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko Chris Candido & Lance Storm Cuban Commandoes Danny Doring & Roadkill Demolition (Ax & Smash) Doom (Ron Simmons & Butch Reed) Dream Team (Greg Valentine & Brutus Beefcake) Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray & D-Von) Edge & Christian Edge & Rey Misterio Jr Eliminators (Perry Saturn & John Kronus) Enforcers (Arn Anderson & Larry Zbyszko) Fabulous Freebirds (Hayes/Gordy/Roberts) Fabulous Freebirds (Hayes/Garvin) Fabulous Ones (Stan Lane & Steve Keirn) Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton) Gangstas (New Jack & Mustafa Saed) Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff) Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) Hart Foundation (Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart) Heavenly Bodies (Stan Lane & Tom Pritchard) Heavenly Bodies (Tom Pritchard & Jimmy Del Ray) Hollywood Blondes (Steve Austin & Brian Pillman) Ivan & Nikita Koloff Jack & Jerry Brisco Jung Dragons (Kaz Hayashi & Jimmy Yang) Kerry & Kevin Von Erich Killer Bees La Resistance (Dupree/Conway/Grenier) Los Guerreros (Eddy & Chavo) Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Dennis Condrey) Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) Mikey Whipwreck & Yoshihiro Taijiri Miracle Violence Connection (Steve Williams & Terry Gordy) Moondogs (Rex & Spot) Nasty Boys (Jerry Sags & Brian Knobs) Natural Disasters (Earthquake & Typhoon) New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn) Nova & Chris Chetti Orient Express (Akio Sato & Pat Tanaka) Outsiders (Scott Hall & Kevin Nash) Owen Hart & Davey Boy Smith Power & Glory (Hercules & Paul Roma) Powers of Pain (Warlord & Barbarian) Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge & Rocco Rock) Raven & Perry Saturn Rick & Scott Steiner Road Warriors/Legion of Doom (Animal & Hawk) Rob Van Dam & Sabu Rock & Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) Shawn Michaels & Diesel Smoking Gunns (Billy & Bart Gunn) Southern Boys/Young Pistols (Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong) Steve Williams & Ted DiBiase Strike Force (Rick Martel & Tito Santana) Stud Stable (Robert Fuller & Jimmy Golden) Twin Towers (Big Boss Man & Akeem) US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda) Vitamin C (Chris Jericho & Christian) White Lightning (Brad Armstrong & Tim Horner)
Loss
My picks to be axed. I only have 10. Beverly Brothers Cuban Commandos (only because I doubt if most of us have seen enough footage to rank them properly) Danny Doring & Roadkill Jack & Jerry Brisco (peaked before timeframe) La Resistance Mikey Whipwreck & Yoshihiro Taijiri Natural Disasters Nova & Chris Chetti Power & Glory Powers of Pain
goodhelmet
I think there are some great teams on there but we may want to revisit this idea and only pick 32 teams. I have seen most of these teams but have no idea how well the Beverly Bros or the Cuban Commandos worked together. On the flip, teams like Dibiase and Williams or Horner & Armstrong that I have seen are probably not in many people's tape collections.
Loss
Okay, do we need to narrow the criteria? Everyone who plans on voting, please make a post on what companies, eras, etc, you think you've seen enough footage from to judge properly and we'll go from there. I'm worried that it's basically going to be WWF tag teams from 1990-2005 when we're all said and done, because I doubt if a lot of people have even seen a Midnight Express versus Rock & Roll Express match. Hopefully I'm wrong.
goodhelmet
Teams I think everyone might have seen from your list: 3 Count (Shane Helms/Shannon Moore/Evan Karagias) Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes Booker T & Goldust Brainbusters (Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard) British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith) Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko Demolition (Ax & Smash) Doom (Ron Simmons & Butch Reed) Dream Team (Greg Valentine & Brutus Beefcake) (may be too early for most) Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray & D-Von) Edge & Christian Edge & Rey Misterio Jr (Have no shot of winning) Eliminators (Perry Saturn & John Kronus) Fabulous Freebirds (Hayes/Gordy/Roberts) Fabulous Freebirds (Hayes/Garvin) (have no shot of winning) Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton) Gangstas (New Jack & Mustafa Saed) Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff) Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) Hart Foundation (Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart) Heavenly Bodies (Tom Pritchard & Jimmy Del Ray) Hollywood Blondes (Steve Austin & Brian Pillman) Ivan & Nikita Koloff Jung Dragons (Kaz Hayashi & Jimmy Yang) La Resistance (Dupree/Conway/Grenier) Los Guerreros (Eddy & Chavo) Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Dennis Condrey) Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) Miracle Violence Connection (Steve Williams & Terry Gordy) Nasty Boys (Jerry Sags & Brian Knobs) Natural Disasters (Earthquake & Typhoon) New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn) Outsiders (Scott Hall & Kevin Nash) Owen Hart & Davey Boy Smith Powers of Pain (Warlord & Barbarian) Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge & Rocco Rock) Raven & Perry Saturn Rick & Scott Steiner Road Warriors/Legion of Doom (Animal & Hawk) Rock & Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) Shawn Michaels & Diesel Smoking Gunns (Billy & Bart Gunn) Strike Force (Rick Martel & Tito Santana) Twin Towers (Big Boss Man & Akeem) US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda) Vitamin C (Chris Jericho & Christian)
Loss
That's 48 teams. We can actually work within that if that's cool with everyone. It just means we'll have to do seeds and the top 16 seeds will get an automatic bye to the second round.
goodhelmet
Hell, we could probably eliminate 16 more without debate from anyone. I can't think of one person who would give a vote to La Resistance. Then again, a team we completely overlooked was Benjamin and Haas who worked as hard as anyone in their stint together. Loss
I think they should replace La Res personally.
Marty
My picks for the byes, if we're going with this: Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes Brainbusters (Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard) British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith) Demolition (Ax & Smash) Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray & D-Von) Edge & Christian Fabulous Freebirds (Hayes/Gordy/Roberts) Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff) Hart Foundation (Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart) Hollywood Blondes (Steve Austin & Brian Pillman) Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) Miracle Violence Connection (Steve Williams & Terry Gordy) Rick & Scott Steiner Road Warriors/Legion of Doom (Animal & Hawk) Rock & Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) I'm sure some of these will be disputed, but I'm trying to help out. goodhelmet
I would sub one of the teams with the Fantastics, just don't know which ones yet.
Marty
Whoops, forgot the Fantastics. Okay, replace the Hollywood Blonds with them, because I flipped a coin between the Blonds and Owen/Bulldog for the last spot, not knowing the Fantastics were right there. That's how I'd do it, at least.
goodhelmet
Good choice esp. since the Blonds were a team that had the potential but never had the backing to be truly great.
Loss
That said, I'd probably still choose the Blonds over Owen and Davey Boy, just because I think they had better matches.
goodhelmet
Agreed, simply because Owen and Davey mathed up well against each other, not with each other.
Loss
Anyone else? We need some type of indication that there is indeed interest in doing this tournament right now.
