Loss
Clips of a match from Pikesville, KY. Cornette's much-hyped mystery team turns out to be The Bruise Brothers. They lay out the Rock & Rolls in their debut. This went on way too long, but I guess it made the point. Morton and Gibson do an interview backstage with Morton busted open. This is a GREAT Morton promo by the way.
El-P
Morton's promo is indeed great. The neo-nazis are in town. Yawn. Can they be as useless here as they have been in ECW, WWF and WCW, or will Morton work his magic with those two SS tatooed goofs ?
Kevin Ridge
The beatdown did drag on. Then you watch the Morton promo and you want see them get their revenge at Bruise Brothers, a team I don't really care to watch myself, but Ricky is so good. PeteF3
Clips from Pikeville, KY. Cornette cuts what sounds like a total scorched-earth promo on Ricky & Robert, but sadly we can't quite hear him. As Cornette rambles, the Bruise Brothers hit the ring and attack from behind. The Express bump for about 7 to get these guys over. Tim Horner makes the most ineffective save attempt in history. This went on, but it was a pretty selfless and masterful performance by the R'nRs, all told. Ricky promises they'll be ready next time. Great intense response, to continue this master class in babyface work.
soup23
The brawl was disappointing and probably the biggest mis - step in SMW this year. Morton's promo is one of his best as he is bloodied and all fired up and actually makes me care.
GSR
House show footage from Pikesville, KY and The Bruise Brothers are revealed Cornette’s mystery team. Cornette is cutting a promo on them (that you can’t really here) and the Express are jumped from behind by the Brothers. Not really a match as they attack Mark Curtis early and get him out of there before putting a lengthy beat down on the Rock & Rolls. Tim Horner comes out and tries to help but doesn’t really get anywhere. He is followed by Steve & Scott Armstrong but one of the Bruise Brothers is wielding a chair and preventing them from getting in the ring. Tracey Smothers eventually comes out and with the numerical advantage they charge the ring and the Bruise Brothers stop the assault and leave. This is followed by a Rock & Roll Express dressing room interview and Ricky is all bloody and says that he has never seen a tag team like that since the Road Warriors in the 1980s. He tells Cornette that his mystery team maybe be and bad and they may have their backs against the wall, but next time they’re coming out fighting. They don’t care what it takes anymore, so bring your mystery team because the Rock & Roll Express is here to stay, not here to play! Good fired up promo from Morton here and one thing watching the set was I never realised how good a promo he is. The length of the beatdown wasn't an issue for me, I just think the problem was the houseshow filming and that the camera was so far away. It wasn'y anywhere near as the Rage in the Cage beatdown on Bob Armstrong that I thought was unnecessarily long and overdone.
garretta
Corny needed to get the Harrises over as a force, so I don't really have an issue with how long this was or how many faces they laid out. Now, if they do something like this again, it'll definitely be overkill. It's at times like this where Gibson needs to be heard from, even if he's a bit marblemouthed. There's no way in common sense that someone who's been beaten up like Morton has here should be able to be as articulate as he was. I'd rather have had either Gibson taking the brunt of the beating so Morton could talk or saying what he can and leaving it at that. Morton could have done the exact same promo from the studio with a couple of days to recuperate. It's stuff like this that exposes the business just as much as a worked shoot from Vince Russo. I'm impressed that Corny apparently brought Bob and Dutch to a house show just so they could do live commentary for this. If it wasn't live, they must have better studio facilities than a promotion that small ought to. The Harrises may not be the 80s Road Warriors reincarnated, but I don't think Hawk and Animal ever participated in this long and involved of a beatdown so early in one of their runs. Let's hope that they look this good during their upcoming matches.
