Loss
Tammy, like Hillary Clinton, strongly believes in charity work so she plans on taking a typical woman from this area and transferring her into "an acceptable human being". Ha! Tammy is awesome! "How long have you been ... like this?" Tammy points out that basic items like deodorant and perfume are available in stores, but can't be purchased with food stamps. I look forward to more of these educational announcements!
El-P
After watching Tammy's lastest shoot interview, this segment is even more funny, of sorts, as she said that Margie girl had a actually pretty bad hygiene. Good stuff indeed. Really reminds me of a segment of an old frenct TV comedy show called Palace, with a rich obnoxious couple giving advice to poor people so they could "improve" their miserable life. I have the feeling Tammy's best stuff will indeed be during her SMW stint, which is a bit sad, but I'm looking forward to see the rest of those. She was getting really good really quick. Kevin Ridge
That lady was only 29?!! She was a sport though. Tammy is great during this.
PeteF3
Straight out of Andy Kaufman in Memphis, but maybe even better. Fytch is incredible here, and it's even endearing how she and Margie both almost lose it when Margie misfires on the perfume. She's barely holding it together as she wraps the segment up. Tammy is such a contemptible, disingenuous piece of shit here, it's great.
GSR
Tammy knows that many people in the Smoky Mountain area are underprivileged, don’t know what it’s like to live in the big city, haven’t had the advantages that she has had and are poor. So she wants to do something to help them as she, like Hilary Clinton, strongly believes in charity work. Many people have come up to her and asked how can they be as beautiful as she is? Well she can’t work miracles but can give them the benefit of her knowledge on makeup, exercise, skin and nail care and social graces. In weeks to come she plans on taking a typical average woman from this area and transforming her into an acceptable human being. This week she will be looking at ‘skin and nail care’ and is joined by Margie who is 29 and from Norton, NC. Tammy isn’t happy that Margie is wearing black nail polish until she realises it’s not nail polish at all, and if from her job of weighing garbage. She decides to skip the nail care, but then is not impressed with the type of soap that Margie uses so decides to skip that too! She introduces Margie and everyone to the concept of deodorant and that people use it to help them from perspiring. She asks Margie if she’d like to use it, but she doesn’t appear to know what to do with it as she sprays it over her clothes. They move on to perfume (‘it helps you to keep smelling sweet and ladylike’) but Margie has never seen perfume before. She again tries to use it, but similar to the deodorant, sprays it under her arms and over her clothes. Tammy is exasperated (although appears to be trying not to laugh for real) and tells the ladies that these items are all available in stores, but doesn’t think you would be able to use food stamps to get them! garretta
The best part of all this is that Tammy plays it almost totally straight; she comes across as someone who truly wants to help those whom she believes to be inferior to herself, but gets exasperated when she realizes just how big a hill she has to climb. That's the difference between these segments and the ones that Andy Kaufman did in Memphis. Kaufman was a heel cutting a promo from beginning to end and never tried to be anything different. The fact that Margie really was, shall we say, in need of help makes it even better. Corny could have used a female from the office or even dressed up Brian Hildebrand in drag to do these if he'd just wanted to show Tammy being a bitch for the sake of it, but he really happened into someone who Tammy was more advanced than in certain ways. Not only that, but the producers kept Tammy's real reactions in, including her laughter when Margie tried to use the perfume like deodorant. In the WWF, they'd have reshot stuff like that over and over until it came out canned and unfunny. Tammy's best stuff definitely came in SMW. Sunny wasn't nearly as charismatic or even as naturally gorgeous as Tammy was here. She wasn't as versatile either; at the same time Tammy was doing Tammy's Tips, she was also playing the scheming bimbo in the Ron Wright angle and showing a whole different, darker side of her persona. There are few performers of any age or either gender who can do two vastly different things at the same time and do both so brilliantly. She may be my choice for All-Around Performer of the Year for 1993.
soup23
I love these segments and Tammy's charisma is jumping off the screen. Margie was a good sport and seemed amused by Tammy's cracks at her.
