Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
They have a taped promo from Shawn Michaels hyping Superbowl of Wrestling. I'm impressed with how well he put over the storyline and adapted to the differences between SMW and the WWF. Then, we get a great video to "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" which is perfect for Shawn's gimmick. The clips are of course all WWF footage. We cut back to Cornette and Landell. Landell does what I think has a case for the best interview in wrestling history, talking about how important this match is to him, his athletic background, his problems with drugs and alcohol, being hired and fired everywhere, having suicidal thoughts, finding salvation, losing weight, what it was like growing up as a wrestling fan in Knoxville, how this match is a big step in him redeeming his career and how he wants Cornette to stay out of the match. It's filled with emotion and it's sincere. Just amazing.
KB8
Buddy's promo really is phenomenal. "I've got dozens of friends and the fun never ends...just as long as I'm buyin'." I don't think Loss is being hyperbolic in the slightest when he says this is a potential Best Promo Ever, either.
jasch
Agreed about Buddy's promo. With as much top-shelf stuff as i have seen from SMW this year I am mystified that they went under. It gives credence to the theory about the constant not living up to stips pissing off the audience, because the angles and matches are still great. Tim Evans
Yeah that Landell interview is right up there with "Hard Times" as one of the best interviews of all time. If I had enough patience, I would transcribe it word for word. Good HBk promo too.
El-P
Michaels promo is decent, Landell's promo is awesome, although it comes off like a babyface promo a tad too much at points. Great promo nonetheless.
PeteF3
Good for Shawn for not completely shitting on all this--this is about as tolerable as babyface Shawn will ever be. Kiss and Pat Benatar weren't exactly the cutting edge of pop culture in '95 but these are better music choices than anything the Big Two were offering. Good tie-ins with the lyrics, too. Landell has spent most of 1995 being funny, and being angry...and now he delivers a promo that just gives you the chills. By the end of it, I don't see how anyone could possibly be rooting for HBK in this match.
