Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
Last few minutes. Austin is green, and Adams is clearly carrying him. Adams gets caught with the brass knucks Austin brought into the ring and loses the match by DQ. Adams does an interview after the match, telling Austin he'll always be Steve Williams to him. PeteF3
Austin doesn't do a whole lot besides the sleeper. Akbar slips Austin brass knucks, but they're hijacked by Adams, only for Tony Falk to catch him for the DQ. Adams announces that next week will be a Scientific Wrestling Match between him and Steve Williams--one punch or hair pull is a disqualification. soup23
Good early Steve Austin match and I thought he looked fine. Chris Adams continues to be a worker that the more I watch, the more I like. Looking forward to this feud a ton.
Kevin Ridge
Akbar shows up and some woman at ring side holding a young kid has some words for him. Referee gets himself bumped by getting in the way of a bodyslam attempt by Adams. Austin swings and misses with the brass knucks and gets a vicious looking suplex from Adams. Some heel convincing and the referee buys that Adams had used the knucks when he didn’t. Adams plugs the USWA calender and autograph promotion. Adams referred to Austin as Steve Williams and calls him stupid. There will be a technical match only with no hair pulling and punches. Adams references “knuckle duster”? Maybe brass knucks? Cox
Very basic match, Adams calls it simple since Austin is still pretty green. He shows good natural charisma, of course, but doesn't have a whole lot he can do in the ring yet. Adams cuts a good promo afterwards vowing revenge. This feud is just getting started and I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
garretta
Nice match, and Austin looks good, even factoring in Adams' help. Of course, Falk lets himself be convinced by Akbar that Austin's brass knucks belong to Adams, thus setting up the DQ. Love the idea that some ladies at ringside would actually smoke cigars just so they could blow the smoke in Akbar's face. You'd never see that kind of heat today, even if smoking was allowed in the arenas. It's early in the feud yet, but I can't help but think of Adams as a perfect bounty hunter for Vince in '97 or '98 if he hadn't had his drug issues. He and Austin show great natural chemistry, and I could just imagine Chris as the English snob counterpart to Austin's beer-swilling redneck. The promo afterward was decent, especially Chris's insistence on referring to Austin as Steve Williams. It's sort of a heelish move, but what he's gone through recently at Austin's hands provides justification for it.
drew wardlaw
Adams' promo got me really stoked for the match. I've really liked this USWA stuff but there really hasn't been a lot of variety, match-wise. The guy did his job because I can't wait to see them in a scientific wrestling match. GSR
We join the match just as Adams dropkicks Austin out of the ring, at which point Skandor Akhbar shows up at ringside. Austin with a sleeper. Adams tries to escape, but Austin motions that he’s pulling his hair and with Tony Falk distracted, he pulls Adams’ own hair to get him back in the hold. A jawbreaker finally breaks the hold and Adams nearly takes Austin’s head off with a clothesline. He goes for a body slam, but Austin’s feet crash into Falk, knocking him down too. Austin reaches into this tights for some brass knux and goes to hit Adams, but he ducks and hits a beautiful belly to back suplex. Adams picks up the dropped knux, Falk comes around to see them on his fist and when he nails Austin he calls for the DQ. Marc Lowrance interviews Adams later in the show and wonders what has happened to his buddy Steve Austin? He corrects himself to Steve Williams, and says that he will always be Steve Williams to him. Steve Williams is a punk who has finally shown his true colours. He’s an idiot without a single brain cell in his head. He’s been in the business six months and he thinks the USWA belongs to him? Next week they’ve got a ‘scientific wrestling match’, where if there is any punching, kicking, hair pulling or if you bring out brass knuckles you are disqualified. He warns Austin if he ever does that to him again he better make sure he puts him down for good, because Chris Adams will keep coming back. This was a basic match but done well, with Adams incorporating a couple of high impact moves (that beautiful belly to back and the nasty looking clothesline). You can see that Austin is green (his clubbing blows for instance look very weak) but the potential is clearly there. My only gripe was that I ‘knew’ there was a referee bump coming. I was half expecting it when Adams was in the sleeper but it came later (of course, a face would never cheat to get out of a hold!). Nice promo at the end to build next week's match.
