Heaven needed a champion and took David and Mike. But Texas needs a champion and has got Kerry. He points out that Texas is the Texas Heavyweight Champion, and who can argue with that. I am the Loss Heavyweight Champion. He asks Billy Travis to come out and promises that he won't touch him if he does. He just wants to issue a challenge. Travis and Garvin finally come out, which allows Kerry to point out that Travis brought his girlfriend with him. Travis says he was leery of coming out, because Kerry's elevator doesn't go all the way to the top. Kerry basically responds by threatening to murder him. Kerry wants his belt back, and Travis says he's the champ, not Kerry. Kerry responds by punching him, even though he promised not to do so.

Decent segment with Kerry vacillating between lucidity and incoherence, and Travis actually doing the same. After issuing a challenge to Travis to the same "leave the ring with the belt to win" stipulation he just fought for against Soultaker, Kerry says he'll "look around" for the rightful Texas Heavyweight champion, allowing him to sloowly discus punch Travis and take the title belt back.

Other than the "Texas is the Texas heavyweight champion" stuff, which I agree is brutal in the extreme, Kerry isn't too bad here. Remember, outside of a few exceptions, wrestlers aren't exactly supposed to be Rhodes scholars; they get dropped right on their heads for a living and kill the pain from that with all kinds of drugs and loose sex, and that's just what they admit to on TV.

I kind of like the "man that leaves with the belt is the champion" stipulation, as long as they don't overdo it. Matches that end in nonstandard ways have to be booked well in order to be good matches instead of just weird ones. We'll see if we hear of too many "cheats", like Garvin pulling Billy Joe out of the ring by the ankles in order for him to keep the belt. Too many of those and the stip completely loses meaning.

I'm interested to see where this goes from here, if anywhere at all.

Kerry sounds like a less articulate Mongo McMichael. Him vacantly starring and flexing his pecs is soul crushing. Disappointing promo from Billy Joe, who seems a bit uncomfortable maybe? Terrance looks like the long-haired bookie character from The Festivus episode of Seinfeld. The one that comes to Costanzas hose for dinner, who has a crush on Elaine. There is also a lecherous looking fellow in a black cowboy hat with a silver band around it. Who is that? He looks to be security of some kind.

Kerry says that heaven needed a champion and it took his brothers David and Mike, Texas needed a champion and it’s got Kerry Von Erich. He’s a little banged up but he defeated The Soultaker for the Texas title last night, and right now he’d rather have the Texas title than the World title. Billy Joe Travis jumped him after the match, stole his title, and is now calling himself the Texas Heavyweight Champion. That’s a joke! He challenges Travis to come down to ringside now, promises that he won’t touch him, but does want to talk to him. Travis (carrying the Texas title) and Terrance Garvin make their way out and Kerry says he sees Billy Joe has bought his girlfriend with him, Mr Fruit Cake himself! Billy says that he was a little wary coming out as Kerry’s elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top, but says that it was Kerry’s rule, and whomever walks out with the Texas belt is the Texas champion. He came down, knocked him out and took the belt. Right or wrong, it was his rule. Kerry warns him not to point his finger at him or he’ll kill him. Travis says that he doesn’t like Texas, him, the Von Erich name and is going to change the name of the Sportatorium to the Billy Joe Travis Auditorium! Kerry asks him to give him the title back, and when he doesn’t he decks him with a discus punch. Travis drops the belt, Kerry picks the title belt up and tells Travis that he will see him on Friday night.

This was bad! Kerry was at his worse here, stumbling over his words, rambling and not explaining things clearly in the slightest. Marc Lowrance several times had to repeat what he was saying so everyone could understand. Then the whole angle of Travis stealing his Texas title is done and dusted with one discus punch! It would be interesting to know if anyone in the WWF actually was even watching this stuff when they signed Kerry later in the year? I can’t imagine how someone could have been and then thought he’s the kind of guy they want on their roster. Were they still imagining it was the Kerry of the early to mid-80s? Kerry in the first few months of 1990 is plain baffling!
