Loss
Babyface match. Before the match, Davis vows that he's going to keep it clean, but he's going to take the fight to Jarrett. Ken Wayne does commentary at ringside, as Davis' former partner. They mention that Davis has taken Joey Maggs under his wing lately. There's some fun stuff to come based around that, so wait for it. These two have a really nice match while it lasts. Jarrett was really in a groove at this point in time. Doug Gilbert trips Danny Davis, giving Jarrett a technical loss. This creates an opening for Gilbert to attack Jarrett from behind with a chair. Gilbert paints a yellow streak down Jarrett's back. Ken Wayne leaves and does not help. After the commercial break, Wayne explains that he had to go to the bathroom. Jarrett promises revenge.
PeteF3
Scientific match, as Ken Wayne sits in on commentary. He calls it fairly straight-laced but takes some passive-aggressive shots at Davis a few times, saying he taught him certain things and saying Joey Maggs "needs all the help he can get." Some fun perfunctory scientific work until Davis is jumped by Doug Gilbert, while Jarrett is beaten down by Eddie & Lowe, and he gets yellow spraypainted down his back. Ken Wayne sadly has to make an emergency bathroom run and is unable to intervene. Jarrett has improved on the mic but clearly isn't on the level of the best talkers in the territory, which are numerous. Ken can just barely be seen in camera range pointing and laughing at Jarrett's paint job while his promo is going on.
soup23
Pretty good studio action and interesting development with Ken Wayne. I guess when you gotta go, you gotta go.
Kevin Ridge
Leapfrog collision. Good action until the run in. Gilbert sprays paints a yellow line down Jarrett’s spine.
garretta
What little action we saw was very good for free TV, as Davis shows that he can hang with Jeff at least for a while. Then we get the angle with the Gilberts spraypainting a yellow streak down Jeff's back. What's more interesting, though, is the potential heel turn for Ken Wayne, who makes no move to help either his former partner Davis or Jeff despite Dave Brown's entreaties. Of course, we know that Ken's father Buddy has helped out the Gilberts at least once, so I don't know why this is such a shock. I'm not sure how many of you caught this, but Ken explicitly states that he never had any intention of helping out just as we come back from break That declaration plus his laughing at the paint job on Jeff's back get him a stern warning from Jeff during his promo. I didn't actually see Ken laughing and pointing, but it doesn't surprise me given his general attitude. Jeff closes by vowing to shave Eddie's head next time they clash. I don't recall seeing Ken's name on the match listings for the rest of this year. Did they ever do anything in terms of a Jarrett/Wayne feud for the belt Ken brought out to the desk? I seem to recall Jeff winning the U.S. junior heavyweight title at some point in '91, but I could be mixed up.
drew wardlaw
Bizarre moment when Danny Davis says this match will "please him like he's never been pleased before." I like this match a lot. a good TV match and the more technical style was a good change of pace for me.
