Bill Kazamier! He's going to set a new world record here on the Clash. I think this is the first time we also see Eric Bischoff in WCW. As soon as he does this, Arn and Zbyszko run in and hit him in the ribs with a steel plate. Inoffensive as an angle, which is more than I can say for almost every WCW angle so far this year.

The Guinness Records stuff is a pretty cool way of getting Kazmaier's legit credentials over. I'm not totally sure what exact record Kazmaier is going for, but regardless Anderson and Zbyszko come out and level Kazmaier in the ribs with a giant workout plate.

Bischoff looks so fake. Kazamier out to set test of strength record. Need Ventura to assist. Enforcers thankfully break things up quickly by attacking Kazamier.

I did like that they showed the Guiness book showing Kazamier was in there. The steel rod thing was impressive if not gimmicked but the crowd did not give a shit and Eric has to plead with them to cheer Bill on. Good angle with Enforcers and I love them from this time frame and it set up the main event.

I didn't notice the crowd at all one way or the other, which I suppose proves Soup's point. Kazmaier's not a total dud on the mic, and his feat looks good even if it's gimmicked, but the fans simply didn't want anyone else teaming with Rick but Scotty. Why Dusty didn't take the hint and push Rick as a single while Scotty was hurt I have no idea, but if he wanted to keep Rick as a tag wrestler, he needed to find him an actual wrestler as a partner. Maybe a returning Brian Pillman could have fit the bill, or maybe Dusty could have convinced Steamboat to come back a couple of months earlier.

 

At any rate, a former weightlifter whom no one's ever seen in a ring before let alone actually wrestling shouldn't be pushed as a tag team title contender, period. The only good thing out of this is the promos we'll be getting from Arn and Larry Z, who should have a field day with the idea of a former weightlifter with no experience daring to think that he could hang with them.

 

So this is Uncle Eric's WCW debut, is it? From humble beginnings do major disasters grow!

Kazmaier is certainly impressive with the feat of strength. But trying to tell me that a big time weightlifter = a big time wrestler is not going to fly. I guess Vince's (and probably a little of Ross here too) influence is felt everywhere.
