Every time I see Van Hammer, I can't help but think of Cactus's book. I CAME HERE TO SAVE THE COMPANY. In all seriousness, he had a great look and decent charisma, and would have been a star if he could work even a lick.

Hammer headbangs while playing his guitar in some suspiciously wide shots. The video and the concept really aren't bad for what they are--he does look like a buff, badass Sammy Hagar, after all, so what else are you going to do with him?

Van Hammer appears to be putting no effort into trying to play the guitar. Him jumping off the top rope in mid riff was nice.

This video looks really out of place late in 1991 when the menu music featured all Nirvana songs. I dont think Hammer had a chance to succeed.

This video definitely gets the "Heavy Metal" part of Van's gimmick over, but not much else. I'll have to see him in a promo or in the ring before I can really comment.

 

So he thought he had come to WCW to save the company, huh? Since he was so forgettable that I got him mixed up with jobber Zan Panzer when I first saw his name on the disc menu, I'd guess that any success that the company had while he was there was in spite of him, not because of him.

I love how wrestling's music taste is usually a few years behind. But you know what, I could see this being a Whitesnake or Poison or Van Halen or some other hair band video. So I guess mission accomplished...right?
