Lawler heels like crazy on Paul E. and ECW fans. I love it, although it's funny to watch a guy who spent so long headlining in Memphis harp on the issue of ECW being small time.

And Funk is only 6 years older than him. Maybe that is a lot in wrestling years but Funk isn’t 20 or 30 years older than Lawler. Jerry says all Paul wants is a job in the WWF. Well, he will get yours in 2001 for a brief time.

Up close and personal promo for Jerry. I like how well he fits in the ECW environment even though he denounces it. He goes against the fans, Paul E, and the Funker. I think they should have really angled Funk vs. Lawler for a match no matter what Vince had to say.

Lawler's doing a great job shifting his tone for these promos in a new environment--no jokes, no shtick, no one-liners, just venom. He outs Paul E. as someone angling for a job working for Vince.

What happened to the "Don't talk about how old your opponent is. Don't say he's complete shit either, because that makes you look like shit if they beat you and look like nothing if you beat them" old-school rule ? I guess that's because Lawler is shooting. The line about Paul E. wanting to work for WWF was brillant in hindsight.

 

He also looks old and scarred up there. Really contrast with the plastic look he got with the surgery later on.
