Smack2k
Across Indy Wrestling in the USA...what is considered a good crowd for a show these days? Is it a couple hundred? More? Less? Thanks!
Troy
I'd say a couple hundred
Smack2k
Is this basicallly a solid number everywhere (around the US?) Do they profit from a couple hundred people?
Exposer
I'd definitely say a couple hundred give or take. It also really depends on the venue, who's on the card, and if it's outside the weather. I've been to over a dozen different small indy promotions here in the Chattanooga area in the last 12 years. I've been to a few shows where it's reached about 300 before. Another thing to consider is the scheduling because I've been to a couple of shows where moderately "big" names came and not enough people showed up because it was deep into College Football season which is a religion here. They had to cancel the show and give us our money back so there's a lot of factors in it. An average good crowd would be 125-150 I would say. I don't know if they really truly profit from a couple hundred because I'm not terribly close to any of the wrestlers around here. All of them have second jobs as do the promoters more often than not. I know a few guys who've been working at the Family Dollar for ten years along with wrestling. Honestly, small-time indy wrestlers seem to get extra money from wrestling rather than making a living off of it.
Smack2k
I more so meant the promotion profiting...I wouldnt guess the actual wrestlers were getting much at all from everything I have seen and read.... Curious if certain regions of the US have more profitable indy promotions than others?
Dylan Waco
In the area Exposer is talking about there are two promoters who have excellent reputations (and a few others who have the exact opposite). One guy runs a weekly/bi-weekly show (it changes to bi-weekly in the summer because of the heat and other factors), in a fairly large warehouse that I would guess he owns. I imagine the warehouse is also used to train wrestlers. The operation is low budget but they have increased their visibility some over the years, have good social media presence, have started doing video packages some and have cultivated a reliable local following. I know a guy who works for them and he tells me they almost never do less than 125 paid anymore and they average around 200 paid a show. This year there biggest show did close to 400 paid if you believe the guy I know and it's certainly not implausible. Of course they also only charge five dollars a head. The other guy runs primarily out in the middle of nowhere, but seems to draw between 100-200 to just about every show, sometimes more. He also promotes some in other towns, including occasionally the warehouse mentioned above in off weeks. I think he may also have some minor sponsorship deals on some of the random shows. His shows are also dirt cheap to attend.
rovert
For your East Coast Indy with a few indy names 300 seems to be the point where people on Twitter or on blogs like PWPonderings start praising the promotion I find.

concrete1992
Upstate NY promotion 2CW ranges from a couple hundred in some places to 300-400 to 700+ during their BIG shows. That seems to be the 3 divisions in their markets. Binghamton promotion Xcite probably gets 150+ a show and probably maxed out at 350 I'd say. Think it really depends where you run what the "norm" is.
Blehschmidt
I ring announced a show a few weeks back that had Ricky Morton, Shane Douglas, Ivan Koloff, Kevin Sullivan, and Elijah Burke advertised. (Burke and Sullivan ended up not being there) We drew an amazing 26 people.........
shoe
The main Indy in Austin ACW usually draws between 125-350 people.
Indikator
It doesn't even matter what you draw as long as rent and the cooperation with the owner of the venue are alright
Marty
C*4 here in Ottawa consistently has over 200 people at their shows and sometimes hits the 350 range.
theconstipatedsmark
I'd say a couple hundred sounds about right, but it depends on the venue to. For instance, I know some indies run in bars and have smaller crowds, but can still be profitable because of how much bars sell for drinks and stuff like that. RWOOD
C*4 here in Ottawa consistently has over 200 people at their shows and sometimes hits the 350 range. Didnt know C4 was still kickin... I havent been to a C4 show since the cops were called to old hall because someone took a chairshot in the parking lot for a vlog. I was pissed at that because I was smoking a joint at the time haha. Actually, thats not true, I went to the first show at the Casino. The best (most attended) indy shows Ive been to in Ottawa were the string of Dave Dalton shows in 2004 -5 I think. Raven came out for one and I think Abyss was on the same show. Crowd was hot as hell and I marked out for Ravens table spot at the end. It was warranted. I may have even embraced Dave at ringside when the table broke. You figure he woulda hugged Mathis or something but I guess I was closer. Good times. MikeCampbell
Binghamton promotion Xcite probably gets 150+ a show and probably maxed out at 350 I'd say. Does Xcite run anywhere other than the American Legion? I can't imagine 350 in that tiny building. I've been there for packed 2CW shows, and it's nigh impossible to move, especially with the bar being right there at ringside. I still think 2CW is nuts for putting their next iPPV in that arena, with the rowdy drunk crowd and the tiny arena.

The last 2CW show there was the most packed I had seen it from the shows I had seen. 20 for each side of front row. Then 2 sides had 5 rows past that of probably about 17-20. I had front row and I could barely get to my seat because it was put as close as it could to the rail. So that puts us to about 280 max. Then you've got people standing which bumps it up probably another 60 from by the front door to the walls to the back door area. And recently they have opened up the stage for seating which I'd say probably adds another 30+. I probably over estimated Xcite so sorry bout that.
