Loss
It was in the latest WON that he's being investigated for stealing $30,000 from the local Iwate government and using it for his personal stuff. Anyway, I think this guy is a legit lunatic based on the stories we have heard about him over the years, and thought this would be a fun thread to capture all the stories we know about. I know about this, doing a porn movie and a supposed acid-induced booking run, but I'm sure there's more. Let's try to capture all the crazy stories in one thread. What else is there? alexoblivion
What's the story on the acid fueled booking?
Loss
I don't mean literally -- more than he had a run booking Michinoku Pro and things were apparently all over the place.
alexoblivion
Oh OK. I was hoping that for the sake of craziness that it was the other way around. Don't remember the details, but didn't he kick someone on a subway for trying to film him a few years back.
PeteF3
Wasn't part of the reason his WWF stint was so short because he was under the impression he would be booked as a main eventer? rvd356
How bout him shooting on the "Dirt Bike Kid" in Japan(forget the promotion) and kickin the shit outta the poor kid. It's really too bad about the Attitude Era lightheavyweight division. Taka/Sasuke @ Canadian Stampede & on Raw after were such awesome matches and it looked like WWE had a true alternative to WCW's Luchadores in having the best Juinor's in puro at the time. Too bad they couldn't keep it going by bringing in Hamada or Dick Togo(well they did, but not as singles in the division) or anybody really. ohtani's jacket
He's some type of UFO researcher and has brought it up in public forums: "For the people of Japan, their hard-earned tax dollars at work with The Great Sasuke has led to some important discoveries. Some people worry about North Korea. Some people worry about Iraq. Some people worry about oil prices. But The Great Sasuke is a man of the people, and he decided to take up an important issue recently at assembly hall in Iwate. According to Sasuke, there is a crisis in Japan. Not inflationary rates, not the Yakuza, but instead... there's a problem with aliens. Sasuke recently gave a speech that caused laughter to leak out in assembly hall about the growing number of sightings of UFOs from residents in his district. He relayed his concerns with a straight face, talking about how shiny flying objects were floating in the sky at a super high-speed of zig-zagging. For a half-hour, Sasuke debated with others about UFOs and martians, wondering what kind of threat they would impose on society. He even asked one person if their mother had sighted a UFO in the past."

Ryan Faulconer
Finishing a match with a cracked skull is pretty crazy. I think he's done that twice. First was against Dos Caras in 95 Mask League and the second against Ohtani during the J Crown finale in 96. He did that roughly within a year of each other. He's taken a few too many bumps to the head. I always thought the Dirtbike Kid "shoot" was a receipt for something that happened earlier. He didn't permanenly injure the guy so it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary from the wacky world of pro wrestling. The match happened during the 1999 Mask League. Booking in MPro always seemed pretty inconsistent. Even during the peak years of KDX's feud with Sasuke the matches weren't booked like anyone in the US would think an important feud like that would need to be. Gimmicks like Dakko Chan/Doc Chan/whatever Jody Fleisch was called were pretty stupid. I think Shinzaki did a lot of the booking over the years and not Sasuke. Ted Tanabe probably helped too so it is hard to put the blame on anyone in particular when it comes to MPro's lesser momments. I think Sheldon Goldberg wrote a long article detailing the difficulties of dealing with Sasuke during the year(s) ECW worked with Michinoku Pro. mookeighana
3/2/09 Wrestling Observer There was an incident that got a lot of media coverage, to the point that I was told every major newspaper and television news show covered it, since Great Sasuke is a member of the Diet in the Iwate Prefecture. Sasuke, 39, was on a train on 2/19 and someone on the train shot a photo of him on their phone. Apparently the man didn't know Sasuke was a famous wrestler who is also known as being a politician, and instead just thought he had encountered some weirdo wearing a mask on a train. The guy thought it was funny and Sasuke got pissed off that the guy didn't know who he was and treated him like he was a freak. The guy kept shooting pictures and Sasuke told him to stop. The deal is that while Sasuke is a household name in the Iwate prefecture and Northeastern Japan, in Tokyo, not everybody knows who he is. When the guy didn't stop, Sasuke allegedly grabbed the cell phone and threw it hard on the ground. He then grabbed the unnamed 36-year-old man who had taken the photo by the collar, ripping his shirt, and threw him against the train door and kicked the man in his left knee. Another person watching the incident called police, who showed up at the next station to arrest Sasuke, real name Masanori Murakawa, at 11:50 p.m., as he, wearing his mask, got off the train. As it turned out, the phone wasn't broken. Police got the story from a third man. The man who shot the photo refused to give police his name and said he was not injured. Sasuke, when arrested, would not take off his mask, although he did unmask when they got to the police station. I wonder if while all this was going on, Sasuke was asking himself, what would Mil Mascaras do in the same situation? Sasuke was held in jail for 40 hours until being released on 2/21 at 3:15 p.m. after apologizing to the man and appeasing him by taking a bunch of photos with him. All charges were dropped and he was released as soon as his lawyer, a famous ace entertainment lawyer, showed up. 12/20/10 WrestlingObserver The guy who makes Great Sasuke's masks filed suit against him for $43,000 in royalties for the last 12 years. Sasuke appeared in Tokyo court on 12/14, wearing his mask.
Fantastic
Kinda sounds like a slightly more extreme version of Mil Mascaras. I'm still puzzled that Sasuke put over Justin Credible clean, back in 1997.

dawho5
I had read at one point that he had a statue of himself built with money his promotion made. Was that just a made-up rumor or something real?
Marty
Wasn't part of the reason his WWF stint was so short because he was under the impression he would be booked as a main eventer? Then there's getting elected to the Prefectural Assembly of Iwate and conducting business while still wearing his mask. I think the WWF story is that as the Light Heavyweight tourney was happening, he was booked to win it all, was told that and spoke to Japanese media that he only plans to defend the title in Japan. The WWF caught wind of that and the rest is history.

Bix
Is Sheldon Goldberg's article about his dealings with Sasuke still online anywhere? The whole midlife crisis where he went on the gas and started taking the stupidest bumps in wrestling history was...interesting. He didn't permanenly injure the guy so it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary from the wacky world of pro wrestling. The match happened during the 1999 Mask League. Last I heard DBK was doing stunt work ion Hollywood, leaving wrestling a long time ago.
Ryan Faulconer
I haven't seen the article in the last ten years. I think it was back on Zach Arnold's old website. It was shockingly scathing when I read it back then. We didn't really have much besides DVDVR/Eyada WON shows/Quebrada/skewed Zach Arnold stories. As much as we read or watched back then the sleaze stories were kind of a goof about about some goofs.
