Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
Last few minutes. After seeing their 9/98 match, I do want to watch this in full at some point, although the heat is nowhere near where it was then and what we see of the match doesn't look too impressive. Goldberg isn't nearly as over as he was last year. The heat picks up when Goldberg switches to offense, which probably says everything we needed to know about how to construct this. Bret shows up with a chair and whacks Goldberg on the knee with it a few times. Then the Steiners come down and attack Sting for some reason. On a side note, Bret always prides himself on never having injured someone to the point that they missed work, but it's my understanding that his chair attack here injured Goldberg and sidelined him for a couple of months. tim
With as much as WCW is doing wrong right now, Bret/Goldberg and a real Hogan/Nash match are two things on top that have potential to be strong matches.
Tim Evans
That sorta spear from mid air by Goldberg was awesome looking. Then they had to ruin it by doing a Dq finish. Sick chairshot by Bret.
soup23
Action looked good here to me and I like the way these two always match up. The finish was a mess with the Steiners attacking and another awful chair shot for 1999 where Bret pastes Goldberg. Disappointing ending. Superstar Sleeze
Sting vs Goldberg - WCW Slamboree 1999 I would not go out of your way to watch the full match, but it is so short, it is not horrible. They blow a spot early, but the idea is to go tit for tat early. Goldberg hits a big power move and sends Sting out. Sting hits a big power move and sends Goldberg. Goldberg gets a submission hold then Sting gets a submission. Once Sting starts working over the leg it gets pretty interesting. It tied in nicely to DDP having attacked the leg on Nitro and he had a huge brace on it. You see with Goldberg some really good selling and when he goes for his usual kill (Spear) he is tentative and this allows Sting to avoid it and Goldberg collapses into the turnbuckles. Sting follows up with a pair of Stinger Splashes and on the third BOOM! SPEAR! It was the spot of the PPV no doubt and crowd reacted huge. They did not follow up. Instead Bret Hart and The Steiners came out for no reason attack both men. I can see with two top babyfaces why they needed the schmoz, but they could have let it build more. Decent stuff. PeteF3
Okay action but it looks like a far cry from their Nitro match. I don't have a problem with Bret's run-in but the Steiners beatdown is absurd, though it ranks way down on the list of infuriating things to happen on this show--even if you just limit it to stuff involving Rick Steiner. Makai Club #1
Bret Hart is back!!! The highlight of this match which was very disappointing. So short, and not in the traditional Goldberg way. No room to build anything special before Bret come back to attack Goldberg. Then the Steiners come down and attack Sting, for reasons. The crowd is into what little we actually get between Goldberg and Sting. The Spear counter to the Stinger splash was a small glimpse of the greatest this could've produced. **1/
