El-P Posted November 15, 2014 Report Posted November 15, 2014 Gained appreciation much later when doing my WCW project. Never was a big fan of Simmons, but he was at his best here doing explosive power spots. And Butch Reed to structure the whole thing. Great look, great concept (especially when they were with Woman), cool theme. Reigned in the Steiners by beating the shit out of them (and by having Butch Reed keeping stuff together). It's a shame they split up when they did, they had a few good years still in them together I think. And maybe it would have prevented us from getting Harlem Heat.
Timbo Slice Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 I think they have a shot here, even though they weren't together for that long. Some really great tag matches in the period, and the more you see them work against all those teams, the more you appreciate them. They shouldn't have broken them up when they did, even though Simmons had star potential at the time, but they had a good run and will be a tough team to keep off the list for me, although it would be at the bottom.
Mando Posted July 11, 2015 Report Posted July 11, 2015 I really dug Doom. They simultaneously feel overlooked while also not having a super strong resume to support them. When I watched the complete run of WCW/NWA Power Hour '90 they had 3 matches in my top ten #1 vs. Road Warriors 2/23, #4 vs. Steiner Bros. 3/30, and #6 vs. Zenk & Pillman 6/16. I've been planning on revisiting Capital Combat '90 for the first time since watching it live as an 8 year old and recall their match with the Steiners receiving some praise.
JerryvonKramer Posted July 14, 2015 Report Posted July 14, 2015 Might make my number #25 spot, but hurt by being short-lived really. They are also not that good with the masks on, so the peak run is even shorter. Once the masks come off, they kick all sorts of ass, but I can't really see a case for putting them above the Steiners.
goc Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 These guys will make my list even if it's at #25. Just such an awesome powerhouse team. Hadn't ever seen anything from them until I watched a certain 6 disc Butch Reed comp and then I had to track down a whole lot more.
