Superstar Sleeze
Mid-South Tag Team Champions Junkyard Dog & Mr. Olympia vs Ted DiBiase & Matt Bourne - Mid-South 10/27/82, No DQ, Loser Leaves Town While Bill Watts may be obsessed with bench presses, he was incredible at getting over the angle and motivations of each wrestler. DiBiase's lust for the North American Championship caused his turn to the dark side. He wants to remove JYD from his competition by defeating him in this Loser Leaves Town match and take his tag team championship. DiBiase had used Hacksaw Jim Duggan as a partner to relieve JYD of the championships in August, but came up unsuccessful. In this match, he invited Matt Bourne from Atlanta to help him in his quest of ridding Mid-South of their beloved Dog by injuring him with the Bombs Away, top rope seat drop. Also, he could use Bourne as a sacrificial lamb if the going gets rough in this high stakes match. On the flip side, everyone's hero the Junkyard Dog has not been able to get a fair shake at the North American title since DiBiase became champion thus by pinning him DiBiase would be forced to vacate the title making the path easier for the Dog. I love the beginning of the match it is filled with JYD going for quick pins. This is not a blood feud in the sense he wants to dish out pain. He just wants DiBiase gone so he going to try to win the match early and often. It seems Dog had recently learned the back heel trip in wrestling school. DiBiase is great at selling being in there with Dog and his fear of being forced to leave Mid-South. I like the term Four Sisters On Thumb Street to describe a fist drop from the Dog. Mr. Olympia is caught by a DiBiase back suplex. A quick tag to Bourne and a follow up knee drop consolidates the advantage. It is a strong heat segment with all the trademark cheating and riling up the Dog. It climaxes with the Bombs Away, which looked fucking awesome. DiBiase, a gloryhound, looks for a powerslam, but it being No DQ, Dog comes in and saves. He waylays Bourne and drags Olympia to their corner. Dog is a house afire. DiBiase, desperate, looks to load his glove and the crowd voices their displeasure. Dog stops him and goes for the foreign object. All of sudden, a man in a Gorilla suit from the State Fair, bodyslams Mr. Olympia. What the hell! He reveals himself to be Hacksaw Jim Duggan! After a couple false starts, he hits a wedge buster on JYD and DiBiase nails him with loaded glove to sen JYD packing for 90 days! The post-match promo to establish the Rat Pack (DIBiase, Duggan & Bourne) as the premiere heel force was a thing of beauty. This is a very good, fundamentals tag team match that is bolstered by the storysurrounding it, the strong characters in it (JYD & DiBiase) and a wicked hot angle to finish it up. Next time, we look at how the Rat Pack splinters and leads a Loser Leaves Town match of their own. ****
JKWebb
That bombs away looked BRUTAL. DiBiase was greedy and wanted the pin for himself. I thought that was a good way of showing his character. Great match, moment, and following the match promos. You can hear DiBiase's evil laugh at the end. Great match - enjoyed the teamwork of Borne and Ted ****

cactus
JYD is ripped to shreds here and he puts in one of his best performances ever, although it's the fantastic heel work of DiBiase and Borne that stood out for me. They were both phenomenal at bumping and selling. Borne's Bomb Away finish looked absolutely brutal This is No DQ, but don't go into this expecting weapon shot galore. The No DQ aspect of this match is mainly here to allow them to throw the tag rules out the window and make saves and hit double-team moves freely without the risk of disqualification. The camera cuts to a crowd shot and we see a guy dance in a gorilla suit at the start of the match, and it's revealed to be Jim Duggan when he costs JYD the match by running in and attacking him. ★★★¼
Mr JMML
Bill Watts is a genius booker, his ideas were revolutionary and his legacy is more than the bad booker that destroyed the momentum of WCW in 1992. Somehow those crazy twist and turns made sense at the time, this is hard to believe considering the finish of this particular match, they set storylines up very well thanks to those endings that at first, look terrible then made you look bad. I love it, Bill Watts made everything special and that’s what I want in my wrestling, unique ideas with great execution like when Wahoo McDaniel turned The Spoiler’s mask so he couldn’t see where Wahoo was, that ended in a DQ but that can’t happen in the match I’m reviewing today because this is a No DQ tag team match so no rules, it means that tag partners can intervene and most importantly the wrestlers can jump off the top rope which is forbidden in any Bill Watts’ booked promotion. It’s only one fall, in the left corner the heel team of Matt Borne ( in a few years Doink the Clown) and Ted Dibiase the son of ‘‘Iron’’Mike Dibiase the legendary wrestler that had his prime during the 1960’s. In the right corner the babyface team of the hottest babyface in the territory at that time Junkyard Dog and the masked man Mr Olimpia. Now the match, it’s Loser Leaves Town so whoever loses has to abandon the territory for 90 days, during most of the match Mr Olimpia is manhandled by the heel team until he tagged Junkyard Dog and the babyfaces comeback began, it looked like the face team was going to win when a giant gorilla entered in the ring that turned out to be ‘‘Hackshaw’’ Jim Duggan, so because of the help from the gorilla Matt Borne and Ted Dibiase won. If you like Mid-South you have to watch this match, the crowd made the contest better reacting to every move like it was the last.
tcg91
Fun match, the crowd was really into it. I have seen Dog perform in arenas where he was even more over than this, like Houston for one, but here he looked ripped and ready to kill. Good little 10/12 minutes deal, DiBiase and Borne called the match really well and got heat on the champions. Olympia was fine, I haven't seen much of him, but his selling here was decent. The finish was well booked and it enhanced the story around JYD's comeback, but Duggan's run in was goofy as well ***
