WWE Smackdown TV spoilers from Florence

by Ric Garni

From Florence, South Carolina:

Matches announced for the show are Mark Henry vs Rey Misterio in a #1

contender match, and Kurt Angle vs Daivari (I'm guessing something will

happen on RAW to set this up).

Lashley defeated JBL. During the match, the Boogeyman came out, distracted

JBL and Lashley got the pin. Boogeyman ate worms in the ring after the

match.

Kurt Angle is walking around backstage, being congratulated by the

Smackdown! superstars. Rey Misterio gets in Kurt's face, then seconds later

Mark Henry also gets in Kurt's face.

JBL is backstage, yelling at Teddy Long to do something about the Boogeyman.

Long makes a match for the Rumble: JBL vs Boogeyman. JBL looks scared.

Booker T and Sharmell come out to celebrate U.S. Title win. Balloons fall

from the ceiling. Out comes Orlando Jordan, demanding a match tonight with

Booker. Booker says he's not cleared to wrestle yet. Jordan shoves Booker

down. Teddy Long comes out and makes a match for later tonight: Randy

Orton (as Booker's substitute) vs. Orlando Jordan.

Matt Hardy defeated Fit Finlay by DQ. At the end of the match, Finlay has

Hardy in the ropes, and starts delivering hard crossfaces. Ref counts to

five, Finlay is still delivering the crossfaces. So the ref DQs Finlay and

awards Hardy the match. Finlay gets on the mic and says "I'll give you

something to DQ me for." He puts Hardy's head on the steel steps and stomps

on his head.

Footage of Batista's surgery is shown, with a message from Batista saying he

will be back.

Rey Misterio vs Mark Henry. Henry kicked out of a 619 and frogsplash.

Henry wins with a powerslam, setting up Henry vs Angle at the Rumble for the

world title. Misterio sold the injured ribs for a good five minutes, and

the refs carried him back to the back.

The Gymini defeated Brian Kendrick and Paul London. Mr. Kennedy at ringside

for this match providing commentary.

Randy Orton defeated Orlando Jordan. At the end, Jordan is on the top rope,

poised to attack Orton. Sharmell and Booker T come down. Booker nails

Jordan with the crutch, Orton follows up with the RKO for the pin.

Afterwards, Chris Benoit comes down and chops the hell out of both Booker

and Orton. That sets up Benoit vs Orton at next week's Smackdown! tapings.

Kurt Angle defeated Daivari by DQ. Mark Henry and Melina at ringside to

scout the match. Angle puts Daivari in the ankle lock, but Melina

interferes, causing the DQ. Angle puts the anklelock on Melina, causing

Henry to come in and attack Angle. Henry nails Angle with the steel steps

and leaves him for dead. Daivari grabs the mic and announces he is the new

manager of Mark Henry, and that he "screwed" Angle. Show ends with Daivari

and Henry celebrating while Angle is hurt outside.

They should but nows not the best time to do it. Angles crazy over as a babyface (whom basically saved SD! from sucking) and they were already in the middle of the Angle with Mark Henry. It only makes sense to have them finish it out. If Mysterios given a push it should be at Wrestlemania. Giving time to work Henry, Davari and the rest out of the picture.

Lets say they do go with Rey Mysterio what would be better a slow, huge and actually good build going into the biggest show of the year or a random main event(which isnt even the main event) at the Royal Rumble?

The moral of the story is never try to get fired or you'll have an Irishman squish your head like a grape.

Obviously you want to build up to Rey's big win, but there was no reason to feed him to Henry in a #1 contender match...they could have just given Henry the match based on him being the last guy out of the battle royal and the fact that he put Batista on the shelf.

And I like Angle more than most do here, but he wasn't that over on Friday. Misterio was easily the most over of anyone on the show. Angle would easily get heel heat against him had they not followed through on his turn...just keep subtlely teasing the turn long enough for him to polish off Henry and for Rey to win the Rumble, then have him beat down Rey or something to re-establish his heeldom.

That's pretty risky, putting Taker with Henry. Not even taking the potentially horrible matches into account, why put someone with a bad habit of injuring people with a guy who's been part timing it because he's on the tail end of his career.

How the fuck would Taker even be able to convincingly finish Henry? I doubt he can get him up for the Tombstone without telescoping his spine and a chokeslam attempt would end up looking more embarassing than the botched Hogan one in 2002.

Mark Henry will kill the WrestleMania streak.

Who did Mark Henry injure? The only one he was associated with was Batista whos known for being injury prone, the guy tore his tricep JOGGING. Seriously, how often does that happen?

I will however agree that Taker VS Henry sounds stupid.

Henry beating Rey wouldn't bother me if I thought it was to set up a post-Mania challenger for Rey. That that would be a legit main event shows how much Rey has to offer as champ -- the size difference would sell the story and it would seem like Rey was up against insurmountable odds. WWE logic usually has guys that are about to get a huge push or win a title do a bunch of jobs so they have opponents when they get to that level. Not that they ever reference the previous wins and losses or anything, but that's typically the mindset.
