RIP Ron Bass

Saddened to hear of his passing. I loved the Barry Windham feud. His angle with Beefcake was really hardcore for the time.

It was a vicious angle. I can't however think of a single good Ron Bass WWF match. For years I thought he was pretty awful but catching up on Florida, including his heel turn and a very good match with Barry Windham, he's another guy like Butch Reed whose WWF run really hurt his perception by fans.

I still remember the Beefcake angle more than most from that era. I must've been 8 or 9 years old and that big red X they put on the screen was just incredible. Kayfabe me absolutely thought I shouldn't have been watching.

I think I learned the word "Censored" from that angle. Wrestling's got a lot of vocab for the youth.

He had a really good match with Tito Santana from MSG.

Co-sign on the Santana match. I actually thought the Hair vs. Hair Match with Beefcake on SNME was perfectly acceptable, even decent.

He had a good match against Buddy Rose in the 70's. I believe it was 1977. Like him on the Florida footage I saw.

 

Also I love that angle with him, Black Bart and JJ Dillon in Ricky Steamboat's gym.
