Crazymax Jack
I wonder if Tojo will punish Khan after the humiliating loss to the young Cooley. Happy Dundee & Street made it to the final two teams against the Nightmates. I was pulling for the Exotic-Superstars to take it all, but they fell just short. Gilbert & Rich doing the Stud (Studd) Stable to the real Stud Stable is fun. Reminds me of when they replaced the Fabs. Oh wait, that's not a good comparison. lol
Jesse Ewiak
- Khan as a lower level monster heel could still work in this territory, even in these later days for them. Interesting you had him wrestle twice, then lose the second one, which is more realistic, but probably tough to explain to a guy like Khan. - I guess Mike Graham will claim he broke the glass ceiling for smaller wrestlers in a future shoot interview - Wrestling II & Douglas is a neat alt history student/teacher team and I'm sure all the teams would've done well here, but The Nightmares work really well as the tag champs. Dundee & Street feel they should be mixing up in the main event though. - Forgot who Death Wish is (haven't read in a bit), but fun gimmick match that I'm sure got the crowd heated. - BY GAWS, it's The Honky Tonk Man! Gilbert/Rich/Studd/HTM is one hell of a heel stable, especially one with Sullivan's group also around. - Idol & Olympia are doing one hell of a carry job with their two partners in these main event matches, especially with the other team being one old guy, old young guy, JYD, and Olympia on the other side. Probably really heated, but nothing you want to see on tape. As usual, CCW is really fun Southern-style wrestling, especially for this area. kevinmcfl
The Stud Stable War is great. Honky Tonk fits fine as he along with Rich and GIlbert are the UWF 6 Man Champs so he has always been a part of this stable. The Golden Spike on a Pole Match was classic Southern style wrestling and would have been nerve rattling to watch. Good vs Evil with a "demonic" twist. Monday Nights at the Boutwell might just be the most consistent show in the country right now!
GeneJackson95
UWF/CCW Television Recorded on June 26, 1985 at the Sportatorium in Tampa, FL. In front of a live studio audience Airing on Florida Superstation WTOG and various television outlets throughout Alabama and Mississippi on July 6, 1985 Hosted by Gordon Solie & Joe Pedicino Interviewer: Coach John Heath Ring Announcer: Rhubarb Jones (Show opens with the opening montage and we go to the desk with Gordon Solie and Joe Pedicino) Gordon and Joe talk about what a huge event UWF Battleground was and that we will be seeing footage from the event in upcoming weeks here on Continental Championship Wrestling. They discuss how the results of the Tennessee vs. Texas WAR are far reaching in the UWF and will have a profound impact on CCW in the weeks to come. They then pitch to the opening match this week. In the opening bout, Mr. Olympia defeated Carl Fergie with a 'brainbuster' Afterwards, Olympia was joined by Coach John Heath at ringside, Olympia said with all that's gone on recently with that "snake in the grass" Bruiser Brody, he has lost sight of this "wannabe" who calls himself Super Olympia…..he says now that Brody is out of here it's time he focuses on the matter at hand and that's taking the mask off of this so called Super Olympia and exposing him and removing him from CCW as well. COMMERCIAL airs for the CCW Rocket City Rumble VHS cassette tape! When we return from the break, Joe Pedicino is joined by Mr. Wrestling 2 and Shane Douglas, Wrestling 2 explains how he has taken Douglas under his wing as a "pet project" and to perhaps groom him to one day become 'Mr. Wrestling 3'. Douglas says he's been learning a lot and appreciates the knowledge and guidance of a true legend of the ring. This brings out Adrian Street w/Ms. Linda and Bill Dundee who are laughing. Dundee says Wrestling 2 is a joke and has always been a joke and he wears a mask to hide his face because he knows he's a disgrace. Street adds. "Not to mention he's an ugly bugger as well." Wrestling 2 says if he's such a disgrace then face them in a tag match this week to determine who gets the next shot at the Nightmares, Street agrees and says, "Oh and you don't have to IMAGINE what we can do to you, stick around and have a look. Oh and Joe, I recently saw in a newsletter that someone referred to us as the 'Exotic Superstars', I like it…..keep it going." The 2nd bout of the day sees The Exotic Superstars ("Superstar" Bill Dundee and "Exotic" Adrian Street w/Ms. Linda) defeated Porkchop Cash/Sabu when Street made Cash submit to a 'Boston Crab A video aired showing all the recent turmoil between the "Stud Stables", we then go to a dressing room promo from Big John Studd, Tommy Rich, and Eddie Gilbert. Big John says he's the only true GIANT in pro wrestling which also makes him the only true STUD in pro wrestling. He says Ron Fuller needs to "stay in the office" and out of his business…he says he's here for gold and he's got his eye on a couple of titles. Gilbert points out that he and Rich have both the UWF Southern Tag Team title belts as well as the UWF World Six Man Tag Team title belts and they aren't going anywhere…..he says that since Big John is the true Stud, then they HAVE TO BE the only true Stud Stable…end of discussion, they say they've already beaten Fuller and Golden enough and are ready to move on and have their sights set on the Road Warriors UWF World Tag Team Titles…..Tommy Rich says he's "FARRRED UP" and ready to fight…it doesn't matter who….doesn't matter where…the gold is all coming to the Stable! COMMERCIAL break featuring local promos for house shows The show returns with the 3rd bout of the day featuring the "Living Legacy" David Sammartino w/Freddie Blassie & Teddy Muscles defeating The Blue Cyclone with the 'Dream Killer' (bridging German Suplex) Gordon calls David over to the desk, he says they have some footage they want him to see. It's a promo from the 'American Dream' Dusty Rhodes….Dusty says that he should be focusing on the World title and a million other things but the thing that haunts his dreams on a nightly basis is the disrespect shown to him by the rookie David Sammartino. He says it bothers him because he knows that David comes from better stock than that, he was raised better than what we are seeing of him recently…Dusty says out of respect for the great Bruno Sammartino that he's going to beat respect into him this Sunday night St. Petersburg, Florida…..it's one on one this time…no one to hide behind, man vs. man…Dusty says that he will beat the respect into him that his Daddy should have. David says that Dusty is a joke and a punchline in wrestling who can't hold a candle to the Sammartino legacy and if stepping on Dusty Rhodes' legacy is what it takes to succeed in the UWF, then he will gladly do so in St. Petersburg. Then on Monday night, he has his sights set on the UWF Alabama Heavyweight title held by Brad Armstrong! Gordon and Joe run down the card for Monday night in Birmingham: CCW Summer Heatwave Tour 1985 Boutwell Auditorium Birmingham, AL. "Wildcat" Wendell Cooley (Card Subject to Change) The 4th match of the day sees UWF Alabama Heavyweight Champion Brad Armstrong pin "Golden Boy" Chic Donovan with after a 'Russian Leg Sweep' Coach David Heath catches Brad Armstrong at ringside. Brad says that his family and his mentor the Bullet have been having their share of problems with the House of Humperdink, but the Alabama title being around his waist proves the tide is turning in this war and pretty soon they will prevail of Humperdink and Kevin Sullivan once and for all. Coach asks Brad about his title defense against David Sammartino on Monday night, Brad says after 'the American Dream' gets done with Sammartino in St. Petersburg….he won't have much to worry about on Monday night. COMMERCIAL BREAK In the MAIN EVENT for the UWF Continental Tag Team Titles The Nightmares (Danny Davis/Ken Wayne) retained the titles by DQ against Black Bart/"Outlaw" Ron Bass when Adrian Street/Bill Dundee ran in and attacked them, Shane Douglas and Mr. Wrestling 2 ran in and attacked Street and Dundee, Bart and Bass were swinging at everybody as we went off the air angry that their title match was ruined by unwanted interference © 1985 UWF/Continental Championship Wrestling

It is beginning to feel like the UWF is similar to the old NWA and its territories where its champ is touring around against each promotions stars. The Stud stable feud continues to be a fun read and I am interested to see where it goes. Will be back this week to try and carry some of the UWF load.
