Blehschmidt
We open to Bob Backlund sitting Indian style on the floor of the dressing room with the WWF Title folded up in his lap. He is gently rocking back and forth and staring at the belt. Bob Backlund: Tonight a man named William Graham is going to attempt to deprive me of the one thing in this world that I care about. Tonight a man who has the audacity to refer to himself as "Superstar" is going to try and best me in competition so that he may lay claim to the championship that I have made the most important in the world. Tonight a man who doesn't even deserve to occupy the same space in which I stand or inhale the same air in which I breathe is going to attempt to steal what is rightfully mine. Tonight in this very ring, I am going to decimate, masticate, and annihilate William Graham because I must. Backlund looks up from the belt, his eyes wide, and a terrifying smile crosses his face.... Bob Backlund: BECAUSE THIS IS MY CHAMPIONSHIP!! AND IF YOU TRY AND TAKE IT FROM ME, I....MUST....DESTROY YOUUUUU!!!!! We are taken to "Classy" Freddie Blassie along with Nikolai Volkoff and Boris Zhukov, The Red Scare "Classy" Freddie Blassie: Gunslingers, tonight my Red Scare is going to send you two pencil necked geeks to the big round up in the sky! We cut to Andre the Giant standing in front of a WWF backdrop. He rubs his massive hands together and speaks. Andre the Giant: Grizzly Muldoon, you've challenged the one true giant in professional wrestling! Tonight I am going to have to put you down in front of the whole world! We then cut to The Gunslingers, Scott Casey and Johnny Mantell. Scott Casey: Nikolai, Boris, you two may call yourselves the Red Scare, but here in the WWF, real cowboys aren't going to roll over and die just because some Russian punk calls them out. Johnny Mantell: Tonight you two fellas are going to experience America the cowboy way, and it's gonna be a nightmare for you Russians! We are taken to Bobby "The Brain" Heenan standing with WWF Tag Team Champions The British Bulldogs. Bobby "The Brain" Heenan: Listen up all you Humanoids! Tonight those two pretty boy idiots The Fantastics are getting the rematch they've been crying about for these belts. So when my men The British Bulldogs beat them fair and square for the second time, hopefully we can move on to some real competition! We cut to Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers, The Fantastics in front of a WWF backdrop. Tommy Rogers: Bulldogs! Last time you needed that Weasel, Bobby Heenan to beat us! Now we have our eye on him, and on those titles! Bobby Fulton: You fooled us once British Bulldogs, but this time the Fantastics are gonna rock and roll all over your British Butts! Finally we cut to "Superstar" Billy Graham in his tie dyed tank top working out with a power twister. After a few pumps he drops the bar and speaks.. "Superstar" Billy Graham: The time has arrived Bobby Backlund! The Man of the Hour, the Tower of Power, Too Sweet to be Sour, the Superstar, Billy Graham is coming for you, and he is coming for that World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship Brother. So in just a few short minutes the largest arms in the world are gonna bring home the gold on the Saturday Night's Main Event! Superstar hits the double bicep pose and the camera freezes on him before... The opening strains of "Obsession" by Animotion hit as a video begins to play showcasing many of the wrestlers that will compete tonight. We see footage of Andre squashing opponents in the corner. The Fantastics using the Rocket Launcher. King Kong Bundy using the Big Splash. "Superstar" Billy Graham flexing his massive biceps. The Scufflin' Hillbillies square dancing in the ring. The British Bulldogs using a double clothesline. WWF Champion Bob Backlund with a crazed look on his face. Sgt. Slaughter throwing up a salute, and then we cut to the logo..... The camera pans over the sold out Nassau Veteran's Memorial Coliseum before cutting to the announce position where Vince McMahon is dressed in his best powder blue suit and next to him is a man making his return to the WWF commentary booth, Gorilla Monsoon! Vince McMahon: Hello Everyone! and Welcome to Saturday Night's Main Event! I'm Vince McMahon, joined tonight by Gorilla Monsoon, and what a night of action we have in store for you! Gorilla Monsoon: You can say that again Vince. They're hanging from the rafters here tonight in Uniondale! Championships will be on the line, a new champion is guaranteed to be crowned in a twenty man battle royal, and the Eighth Wonder of the World, Andre the Giant will see action right here tonight. It is going to be a spectacular for sure. Vince McMahon: We are going to kick things off with a match for the World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Championship. Tell them about it Gorilla. Gorilla Monsoon: Well, this is a rematch from the finals of the tournament to crown the WWF Tag Team Champions. That night both The Fantastics of Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers and The British Bulldogs of Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid won several matches en route to meeting one another. Just when it looked like The Fantastics were going to walk away with the titles, that weasel Bobby "The Brain" Heenan stuck his nose in there and pretty much handed The Bulldogs the win and the belts. Vince McMahon: Tonight The Fantastics are getting the rematch they've been asking for, so without further adieu let's head down to "The Fink" Howard Finkel and kick things off! 1 Fall, 60 Minute Time Limit -The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith/The Dynamite Kid) w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan vs The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton/Tommy Rogers)- WWF World Tag Team Titles An amazing balls to the wall tag team match to start the show that went nearly thirty minutes. Both teams held the advantage several times during the match, and the fans were 100% behind The Fantastics, and the "Weasel" chants for Bobby Heenan were loud and frequent. It looked like The Fantastics were going to bring home the gold as they had The Dynamite Kid on the ropes and scored several two counts on him. Finally they planted him in the center of the ring, and Tommy tagged in Bobby who scaled the ropes and the Fantastic Rocket Launcher brought the fans to their feet. Fulton crashed down on Dynamite Kid for what was sure to be the winning fall, and that is when Bobby "The Brain" Heenan jumped up onto the apron to argue with the referee about The Fantastics double teaming. Tommy Rogers was having none of it and went over and took hold of Heenan, who managed to keep the referee in between them. Davey Boy Smith used this opportunity to head into the ring, pull Bobby Fulton off of Dynamite, rake his eyes, and drop him with a piledriver. Then right about the time that Rogers blasted Heenan with a punch to the face, Davey Boy put Dynamite on top of Fulton. The referee ordered Rogers out of the ring, and he went out after Heenan, and then the referee turned around, saw Dynamite covering Fulton and counted One, Two, Three. Winners: The British Bulldogs Gorilla Monsoon: What a miscarriage of justice! The Fantastics had the titles won, and that Weasel just cost them again. Vince McMahon: Smith used the distraction perfectly to take Fulton out, and by hook or by crook, The British Bulldogs retain the WWF World Tag Team Titles. Gorilla Monsoon: Look at Heenan and The Bulldogs high tailing it away from ringside. The Fantastics will be looking for another shot real soon, I promise you that. Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, we'll be right back with Anndreee The Giant!!! -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, this next match will see two men who combined weight over One Thousand pounds step into the ring to do battle. The Seven Foot Four, Five Hundred Pound, Eighth Wonder of the World, Andre the Giant and the Five Hundred Pound Plus Grizzly Muldoon. Gorilla Monsoon: This Muldoon is a relative newcomer here to the World Wrestling Federation, but he is looking to make a name for himself and there is no better way to do that than to call out the biggest and the baddest, and they certainly don't come bigger and badder than Andre the Giant. Vince McMahon: Gorilla, when you were a competitor, you were nearly four hundred pounds. Have you ever seen a match with two men this size? Gorilla Monsoon: Very rarely do you see two guys this big anywhere! Let alone in the same ring at the same time. This may be a case of the Irresistible Force meeting the Immovable Object. 1 Fall, 30 Minute Time Limit -Andre the Giant vs Grizzly Muldoon These two monsters didn't bother with a collar and elbow and just went straight to trading massive blows in the center of the ring. It looked very briefly like Muldoon was going to be able to withstand the power of Andre, but after about the fourth blow from The Giant, the facade of Muldoon began to crack. When the next blow landed, Muldoon stumbled backwards into the ropes and then Andre went on the attack. The next several minutes were all Andre the Giant. Finally he put the massive Muldoon on the ground with a big boot, then hit the Sitdown Splash for the One, Two, Three. Winner: Andre the Giant Gorilla Monsoon: So much for the big Grizzly! Andre skinned that bear with minimal effort Vince. Vince McMahon: Ha! Ha! Ha! There is a reason that Andre has been THE Giant all of these years. Many have tried, and may have failed to take that crown. Gorilla Monsoon: For sure. Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, we'll be right back and the WWF World Championship will be on the line! Don't miss it! -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, welcome back to Saturday Night's Main Event! It's time now for Bob Backlund to defend the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship against "Superstar" Billy Graham! Gorilla Monsoon: There is certainly no love lost between these two men, and they have been waiting to get one another inside that squared circle for some time now. Tonight, right here in Uniondale, they are finally going to get that chance, and you can cut the electricity with a knife! Vince McMahon: Let's head down to The Fink and get this Heavyweight Championship match under way. 1 Fall, 60 Minute Time Limit -"Superstar" Billy Graham vs Bob Backlund- WWF World Heavyweight Title This started off slow as both men tried to feel one another out. It was Backlund who made the first move, shooting in and taking Graham to the mat. He proceeded to ride the "Superstar" for several minutes and keep him grounded with superior mat work, paying particular attention to the neck and shoulders of Graham. Finally when Backlund had a front face lock clamped on, The Superstar used his massive strength and pushed himself off the canvas. The crowd came alive and began willing Billy to his feet, and once Graham got there, he fired several elbows into the midsection of Backlund. When Backlund released the hold, Graham leveled him with a clothesline that sent the champion to the canvas. Graham took a moment to shake the cobwebs out, and by then Backlund was back to his feet, but now it was Billy Graham who was on the attack. Superstar blasted Backlund with punches and clubbing strikes to the back that had the champion reeling. Graham whipped Backlund into the ropes and blasted him with another huge clothesline, then scooped Backlund up and planted him in the center of the ring with a bodyslam. The crowd was going crazy for "The Superstar" and he reached down and grabbed two handfuls of Backlund's hair, and that is when Bob Backlund blatantly stiff armed him in the groin right in front of the referee. Winner, by Disqualification: "Superstar" Billy Graham Gorilla Monsoon: You have got to be kidding me! That was as blatant as it gets. As Graham drops to his knees clutching his groin, Backlund gets to his feet with a maniacal look on his face. The referee attempts to step in between Backlund and Graham but is grabbed by Backlund and tossed out of the ring. Backlund then turns back around and delivers a vicious kick to the face of "Superstar" Billy Graham who was trying to get back to his feet. Backlund then wastes no time in pouncing on Graham and applying the Cross Face Chicken Wing. Vince McMahon: Can we please get some help out here for "Superstar" Billy Graham? A host of referee's, officials, and other backstage personnel including Bruno Sammartino rush to the ring and pry a practically drooling Bob Backlund off of "Superstar" Graham before he can do any more damage. Bob Backlund leaves the ring as all of the men surround the fallen Graham, but once Backlund has retrieved the WWF Heavyweight Title he slides back into the ring and clubs one of the unidentified officials upside the head with it. Chaos erupts in the ring, as some of the officials rush to protect the fallen Graham and the fallen official, while others attempt to push Backlund out of the ring. In the middle of it all, Bruno Sammartino shoves aside two referees and nearly tears off his suit coat, before raising his fists to Bob Backlund as the Uniondale crowd goes absolutely nuclear. Bob Backlund smiles maniacally at Sammartino, before falling to the mat, rolling out of the ring and heading up the aisle as the show went to commercial. -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Welcome back Ladies and Gentleman. We've gotten things back under control at ringside, but before we get to our next contest, we'd like to show you this very special video presentation. A video begins to play showcasing various WWF wrestlers delivering punishment to their opponents. Then a voice over begins over top of the footage.... "This year we are going to celebrate the birth of America with a different kind of fireworks. On July 4th, Live from Madison Square Garden in New York City, the World Wrestling Federation will make it's debut on Closed Circuit Television. All of your favorite wrestlers, all of the championships, all in one night. Join us for the the biggest fireworks show happening anywhere this Independence Day....... 1 Fall, 30 Minute Time Limit -The Gunslingers (Scott Casey/Johnny Mantell) vs Red Scare (Nikolai Volkoff/Boris Zhukov) w/"Classy" Freddie Blassie A back and forth encounter that saw the Gunslingers utilize their speed advantage in the early stages to keep the big Russians off guard. However once Volkoff caught Mantell off the ropes with a bear hug the momentum shifted and the Red Scare took over and beat on Mantell for quite a while. The crowd was hot every time that Mantell got close to tagging in Casey, but the Scare continually managed to cut him off. Finally, the hot tag came and the place went nuts as Casey went to town on both Zhukov and Volkoff with rights and lefts. He knocked Nikolai out of the ring and sent Boris into the ropes and caught him with a huge back body drop! Casey tagged in Mantell and they looked to be setting Zhukov off up for their patented Double Bulldog, but Volkoff entered the ring and blasted Casey in the back of the head with Freddie Blassie's cane drawing the Disqualification. Volkoff grabbed Zhukov and the Red Scare retreated before The Gunslingers could gather their wits. Winners, by DQ: The Gunslingers Gorilla Monsoon: Nikolai saw the end was near for Boris, so he took the cheap way out. The Gunslingers pick up the victory, but I have to believe it's not how they wanted to get it. Vince McMahon: Certainly not Gorilla. I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of this rivalry. Alright Ladies and Gentleman, we'll be right back with the Battle Royal!! -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Alright Gorilla, it's time for us to crown a champion! Twenty Men, One Ring. This is the Battle Royal for the Intercontinental Championship!! Gorilla Monsoon: Hands down one of the most dangerous matches in all of professional wrestling. You've got guys coming at you from all angles. You almost have to have eyes in the back of your head. Whoever walks away from this thing the winner, will deserve to be the Intercontinental Champion, for sure. 20 Man Over The Top Rope Battle Royal -Cousin Luke, Davis Sammartino, DJ Peterson, Hillbilly Jim, Joe Savoldi, Ken Patera, Ray Candy, Sgt. Slaughter, Tito Santana, Bobby Jaggers, Black Bart, Tim Horner, David Schultz, Greg Valentine, The Iron Sheik, Kevin Kelly, King Kong Bundy, Bobby Duncum, Robert Fuller, Pedro Morales- WWF Intercontinental Title Elimination #1: Tim Horner and Bobby Jaggers were battling it out near the ropes. Tito Santana saw an opening and nailed a big dropkick that sent Bobby Jaggers out of the ring and to the floor. Elimination #2: David Schultz was pounding on anyone and everyone he could get his hands on. He was a man with no friends for sure. When he saw Cousin Luke not paying attention, Schultz grabbed two hand fulls of overalls and hoisted him to the floor. Elimination #3: King Kong Bundy was pounding away at Joe Savoldi in the corner, when David Sammartino clubbed him from behind with a forearm strike. Bundy turned around and began to exchange punches with David, but then Bundy's Heenan Family stablemate Greg Valentine hammered David Sammartino from behind. Bundy and Valentine then tossed David to the floor. Elimination #4: Valentine and Bundy didn't waste any time after getting rid of Sammartino, each grabbing hold of Joe Savoldi and pitching him out of the ring as well. Elimination #5: "The Candyman" Ray Candy and Bobby Duncum were laying some heavy shots on one another. It took about a half dozen from each man before the other began to stagger, then Candy fired off a headbutt that wobbled Duncum. Candy grabbed hold of Bobby Duncum by the leg, and DJ Peterson who was nearby grabbed the other leg and together they dumped Duncum to the floor. Elimination #6: The Iron Sheik and Sgt. Slaughter had found one another to the surprise of absolutely no one. They were waging war in a corner of the ring and Slaughter was getting the upper hand, until the Sheik lifted a deliberate forearm into the groin of the Sarge. Tim Horner happened to see this and charged the Sheik, but the crafty veteran side stepped and simply clotheslined Tim Horner right out of the ring. Elimination #7: Then the roof came off the Nassau Veteran's Memorial Coliseum, as Sgt. Slaughter rose to his feet and hooked The Iron Sheik from behind and tossed him to the arena floor! Elimination #8: Pedro Morales and "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly had been duking it out for quite some time, and it looked like Pedro had finally had enough of messing around and he was really pounding away on Kelly. Unfortunately for Morales, he never saw David Schultz come up behind him. One clothesline to the back of the head later, and Pedro Morales was eliminated. Elimination #9: "The Southern Gentleman" Robert Fuller had been picking and choosing his shots, and generally staying away from the action for most of the match. He finally saw what looked like a great opening and jumped on Hillbilly Jim after Valentine and Bundy left him laying. Fuller laid in a few boots, and then started to back away as he had been doing the whole match, but he backed directly into Ken Patera. Fuller tried his best to beg off, but Patera wasn't having it. Several big right hands and one powerful clothesline later, and Robert Fuller was eliminated. Elimination #10: Sgt. Slaughter had King Kong Bundy teetering. He had nailed him with two huge clotheslines, and it looked like a third might put the massive Bundy down. Slaughter charged across the ring for momentum, but as he hit the ropes, The Iron Sheik reached up from the arena floor and pulled the top rope down causing Sgt. Slaughter to sail out of the ring. At this point there was chaos on the floor as an irate Slaughter got to his feet and began to brawl with Iron Sheik. A host of referee's and officials swarmed ringside to separate them and get them to the back. Elimination #11 & 12: Ignoring the chaos on the floor, "The Candyman" Ray Candy saw King Kong Bundy in a vulnerable state and tried to get Bundy out of the ring. Candy pushed Bundy to the ropes and hooked one of Bundy's massive legs and was trying to push him out of the ring. The two struggled until they were leaning on the ropes wrestling one another, it was then that Ken Patera shocked the capacity crowd with a display of herculean strength as he grabbed one leg of Ray Candy and one leg of King Kong Bundy and hoisted both of them out of the ring. Vince McMahon: OH MY!!!! Gorilla Monsoon: That had to be well over Eight Hundred Pounds that Ken Patera just picked up and tossed out of that ring. Unreal strength on this guy Vince. Vince McMahon: Ha! You can say that again! Ladies and Gentleman, don't go anywhere, Saturday Night's Main Event will return after these messages! -Commercial Break- Elimination #13: The show returned from commercial just in time to see Greg Valentine and David Schultz each grab a leg and dump Hillbilly Jim out of the ring and to the floor. Elimination #14: Black Bart was choking away at DJ Peterson in the corner, while just off to the left Tito Santana and Kevin Kelly were exchanging punches. Santana got the best of the exchange, dropping Kelly to the mat, then turned and grabbed Black Bart from behind and tipped him over the ropes and to the floor. Elimination #15: Kevin Kelly was quickly back to his feet and was about to grab Tito Santana from behind, when Ken Patera charged across the ring and blasted him with a clothesline that sent him to the floor. Elimination #16: As all five of the remaining men in the Battle Royal were battling with one another, Greg Valentine retreated away from the other four after taking a hard shot from Tito Santana. However, when DJ Peterson got cracked with a hard elbow shot from David Schultz and staggered a few steps away as well, Valentine wasted no time in grabbing Peterson by the hair and trunks and sending him out of the ring. Elimination #17: David Schultz was peppering Ken Patera with lefts and rights that had the former Olympian reeling towards the ropes. Schultz fired off another huge right hand that sent Patera sagging onto the rope. Tito Santana meanwhile blasted Greg Valentine with a dropkick that sent "The Hammer" away from him. Santana then turned and saw David Schultz standing right behind him, so he dropkicked Schultz in the back. The momentum sent Schultz into Patera, who backdropped Schultz out and to the floor. Elimination #18: Greg Valentine saw an opportunity and grabbed Tito Santana the moment he got back to his feet and launched him at Ken Patera hoping to take both of them out. He got half his wish as Patera backdropped Santana to the floor nearly on top of Schultz. Elimination #19: Valentine faked a charge at Patera who ducked down looking for a third backdrop, but Valentine lowered the boom and hammered Patera with a forearm shot across the back. Valentine fired Patera across the ring with an Irish whip and drilled Patera with a clothesline that staggered the strong man. Valentine propelled himself into the ropes and blasted Patera in the head with a big elbow that sent Patera several steps backwards toward the ropes. Greg Valentine went into the ropes again and charged with another elbow at Patera, but Patera side stepped and clotheslined Valentine in the back of the head which sent him over the top rope and out of the ring. Winner, and NEW WWF Intercontinental Champion: Ken Patera Vince McMahon: OH YEAH!!! The Olympic Strongman, Ken Patera becomes the Intercontinental Champion!! Gorilla Monsoon: He showed a lot of guts and intestinal fortitude and came away with the victory and the title. Not to mention that impressive feat of strength lifting both Bundy and The Candyman out of there at the same time. Vince McMahon: It was definitely quite a showing for Ken Patera here tonight, and we hope you've all thought it was quite a show here on Saturday Night's Main Event! Don't forget to follow all of the World Wrestling Federation action every weekend on Superstars of Wrestling, and don't forget we will be making our closed circuit television debut on the Fourth of July when we present...WRESTLEMANIA!! We also hope to see you back here real soon on NBC for more Saturday Night's Main Event!!! Good Night Everybody!! The show goes off the air as Ken Patera is standing on the turnbuckle with the Intercontinental raises triumphantly above his head.
kevinmcfl
Clearly the Show of the Year so far in my mind! The lead is was AWESOME! Backlund again knocked it out of the park with that interview. When you teach an online creative writing class, sign me up. I can just see it all as it is happening. As always, you have the WWF commentators down and Gorilla was a real highlight for me. Am very interested to see what you plan for Andre. He could have held any title he wanted all around the world but only held 6 in his entire career. He was more like a circus character but the canvass is blank here. Great title match! You kept Superstar hot, increased Backlund's heelness and introduced possible the Match of the Year with Bruno coming after the champ! Amazing booking! Simply the best write up of a Battle Royal I have seen in any game I have been a part of! Hate to do this to you buddy, but you have raised the bar so high, I can only imagine what Wrestlemania will be like!
spaldoni
I know this SNME drew some high ratings for NBC. So great hearing Gorilla commentate with Vince. The pre show promos were spot on. Brought back memories. Bulldogs retain in a hard fought match with the Fantastics. With the Bulldogs chemistry along with Heenan, it's going to be hard to get the straps off them. Muldoon was in way over his head as Andre disposes him pretty easily. Backlund realizes he's in trouble and lowblows his way out of it. What a cool visual with Backlund, Graham and Bruno in the ring at the same time. Loved the teasing of Bruno and Backlund. I think we're going to get the big dream match. WrestleMania is coming!!!!! Looking forward to a Gunslingers/Red Scare feud. Props to you on a very well written battle royal. Those can be hard to write but you defiantly have it mastered. Very easy to follow. Good job with Slaughter and Sheik. Patera was rock'n this battle royal. The highlight for me was him eliminating Bundy and Candy. He deserved the IC title after that performance. Outstanding show. WrestleMania is going to be EPIC!
GeneJackson95
TV starts out with big Grizzly Muldoon and we now know that we'll be seeing the battle of the big men as he faces Andre tonight on NBC!! I mentioned this in my comments on Spaldoni's show…..but I love the Fullers, especially Robert and I can't wait to see the adventures of the "Southern Gentleman" in the WWF! Tons of potential for great entertainment here, such as the "used car salesman" line from Bruno! I still have nightmares about the "New Coke" debacle when it briefly seemed you'd no longer be able to drink "Good Coke" lol Did you really think you were gonna be able to slip Terry Allen back in here and the Champ wasn't going to do anything about it??? That title is HIS!!!! HIIIISSSSSS!!!!! Some great promos and a nice win from "Dr. D" and now we're ready for SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT!!! I read this Saturday night at the same time it used to come on when I was a kid which made it even more fun! Perhaps the best promo yet from Backlund to open the show and you've got the feel of the SNME opening down…..I can see it all in my head play out just like the classic SNME shows of my childhood…kudos for capturing the feel of both this and Superstars. Well done on the subtle jab at the AWA in the opening promos….lol. I'm excited for Gorilla Monsoon to be calling the action Starting out hot with the tag title match is a great move……The Fantastics look strong but the Bulldogs escape with the titles leaving plenty of room for more great matches with these teams in the future. The Andre/Muldoon match was exactly what it needed to be….and we'll see what's next for Andre Great title match…..keeps Backlund crazy/Graham strong and further plants the seeds of Backlund vs. Bruno! Holy Shit!! Wrestlemania is coming!! Glad to see the Gunslingers didn't get mowed down by the Red Scare, I think they could have some good title matches with the Bulldogs at the very least on house shows. Wow….I can't put over enough how well written the battle royal was….although I was really hoping for a surprise return and win from Outback Jack…..but Ken Patera is a good choice as well. Excellent show! You've set the bar super high for all future Saturday Night's Main Event but you always deliver so I'm looking forward to them and certainly excited for WRESTLEMANIA!! Blehschmidt
Airing in Syndication all across the United States of America from the Allentown Agricultural Hall in Allentown, Pennsylvania the World Wrestling Federation presents: A funky bass rhythm mixed with a synthesizer beat begins as clips of all the World Wrestling Federation stars such as Andre the Giant, The Fantastics, King Kong Bundy, Sgt. Slaughter, The British Bulldogs, Greg Valentine and Tito Santana in action plays. It ends with Bob Backlund holding aloft the WWF World Heavyweight title and then cuts to the logo..... Vince McMahon: Hello Everyone, and welcome to the World Wrestling Federation's Superstars of Wrestling! I'm Vince McMahon and joining me at ringside is wrestling's Living Legend, Bruno Sammartino and His Lordship, Lord Alfred Hayes. This week we will recap the events that transpired at Saturday Night's Main Event! Plus in action we will have Hillbilly Jim and Cousin Luke, The Scufflin Hillbillies! Bruno Sammartino: We will also see the massive King Kong Bundy with his manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. Lord Alfred Hayes: "The Southern Gentleman" Robert Fuller is set to join us, as well as "Dr. D" David Schultz. Vince McMahon: Not only that but The Fantastics will be joining "Mean" Gene for an interview, and then from there in our feature contest....ANDRE THE GIANT!! Let's head down to the ring! _______________________________________________________________ During the match we got another pre-taped promo from "The Southern Gentleman." This time he is sitting in a rocking chair on the porch of an enormous plantation house, in an all white suit with a matching white cowboy hat. There is a man of Cuban descent standing behind him dressed in a black suit wearing sunglasses. Robert Fuller: Welllll, Hello Again Ladies and Gentleman! It's me Robert Fuller, and as a fine Southern Gentleman, it is my honor and privilege to welcome you all to my home. This beautiful plantation has been in my family for five generations, and while it is admittedly much harder these days to find the kind of help you need to run a place such as this, I am still very fond of it and proud to call it my own! One thing I am most certainly not fond of however, is the treatment I received in that battle royal at Saturday Night's Main Event! There I was surrounded by hoodlums and ruffians, and not a single person to lend a helping hand to a fine Southern Gentleman such as myself? Well to that I say hogwash! So when I got back home, I gathered up all of the fine workers here at the plantation and allowed them to engage in a battle royal of their own. Totally of their own volition of course, no one was forced to do anything, they don't allow that now you know..... Anyhow, the man you see standing behind me, formerly a gardener here, will now be my confidant, my bodyguard, and my helping hand. Ladies and Gentleman, Fidel. Say Hello to the Nice Folks, Fidel. The man in the black suit and sunglasses just nods Robert Fuller: That boy is gonna be worth every penny! The camera fades out as Fuller has a big grin on his face and Fidel stares stone faced at the camera. -Match 1- "The Southern Gentleman" Robert Fuller w/Fidel beat Ricky Ataki in 4:49 by Submission with the Fuller Leglock. _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: "The Southern Gentleman" picks up another win, but tell me Alfred, what do you make of Fidel? Lord Alfred Hayes: Well, I only know as much as you do, but if looks are anything to go on, he appears to be a very dangerous man. Vince McMahon: It would appear that he didn't much care for his time in the battle royal at Saturday Night's Main Event. Before we head to break, let's take a look at some of that action! A still image, slide show style recap of the Battle Royal is shown. Highlights include: Slaughter eliminating Iron Sheik, Sheik cheating to eliminate Slaughter, Sheik and Slaughter brawling, Patera dumping Candy and Bundy together, Santana dropkicking Schultz out, Patera eliminating Valentine, and Patera celebrating with the Intercontinental Title -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Welcome back to Superstars of Wrestling! Just before the break you saw highlights of Ken Patera winning the Intercontinental Championship in the big battle royal at Saturday Night's Main Event. One of the highlights of that match was the amazing feat of strength as Patera lifted both King Kong Bundy and The Candyman out of the ring together. We have words now from King Kong Bundy who was not the least bit happy about the situation. We cut to King Kong Bundy along with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan in front of a WWF backdrop. Bundy looks very angry and Heenan is shaking his head and begins to talk. Bobby Heenan: Everyone is talking about this Ken Patera like he is some kind of super hero. Like he came over and lifted King Kong Bundy and that idiot The Candyman out of the ring by himself. If you look closely at the footage, Bundy has The Candyman most of the way out of the ring, and the leverage from the ropes made him unstable, so all Patera really did was tip both men out of the ring. King Kong Bundy: PATERA! I'll squash you after "The Hammer" has had his fill! CANDYMAN!! I'm coming for you! You think you are a big man! I'm gonna show you what a real big man looks like! _______________________________________________________________ -Match 2- King Kong Bundy w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan over Brady Boone in 3:17 with Big Splash for a count of FIVE!! As Bundy and Heenan were in the ring after the victory, the music of "The Candyman" Ray Candy began to play and he appeared in the aisle way taunting Bundy and dancing. _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: ALL RIGHT!! IT'S THE CANDYMAN!! BRUNO, GET DOWN!!! Bruno Sammartino: ..... Vince McMahon: HA! HA! HA! Bruno Sammartino: Bundy is a dangerous man. Candy should not taunt him. Lord Alfred Hayes: I'm inclined to agree with Bruno. Bundy is an angry man, and taunting him may not be the best course of action. On the other hand, it may thrown him off his game. Vince McMahon: We'll be right back with more Superstars of Wrestling! We cut to still footage of the Gunslingers/Red Scare match from SNME, as well as the Bulldogs/Fantastics match for the Tag Team Titles. PROMOTIONAL CONSIDERATION PAID FOR BY THE FOLLOWING: The Witch is Dead, but now OZ has been overthrown by the Nome King! The time has finally come for Dorothy to return and save OZ and her old friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion with her new friends Tik-Tok, Jack Pumpkinhead, and Princess Ozma! This June......RETURN TO OZ! -Commercial Break- We come back to an elevated platform away from the ring where we see "Mean" Gene Okerlund standing with a microphone in his hands. "Mean" Gene: Alright Ladies and Gentleman, welcome back to Superstars of Wrestling. Right now, if you'd all please join me in welcoming my very special guests, Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers, The Fantastics! Tommy and Bobby make their way out from the back to quite the ovation from the audience. They finally make it to Gene after slapping hands with a ton of children and getting kissed on the cheek by several women. "Mean" Gene: Well, it seems you gentleman are certainly popular! Bobby Fulton: Well Gene, we love these people and we are glad they love us right back! Another big pop from the crowd and Okerlund has something of a smirk on his face. "Mean" Gene: Alright, alright! Let's get down to business. At Saturday Night's Main Event, it seemed like you had the WWF Tag Team Championship in your grasp. Then Bobby Heenan got involved in the match, Davey Boy Smith attacked you from behind Bobby Fulton, and before you knew what hit you, it was over. Your thoughts? Bobby Fulton: My thoughts! Well let me tell ya Gene, I'm getting real sick and tired of it! Tommy and I had them Bulldogs beat. Then that Weasel Bobby Heenan got involved, and Tommy knocked his block off. But while that was happening, them Bulldogs blindsided me and double teamed me and stole another victory. Tommy Rogers: Davey Boy! Dynamite! You both know you can't beat us fair and square! You know you can't beat us without that Weasel at ringside! So boys, right here, right now, we are challenging you.... "Mean" Gene: WHAT IN THE!!! Tommy Rogers never got to finish his thought as he was clubbed from behind with a forearm to the head. His partner Bobby Fulton was blindsided too and hit with a kick to the face that sent him sailing off of the platform. However the attack came from an unexpected source.... Lord Alfred Hayes: My Goodness! Why are King Tonga and The Tonga Kid assaulting The Fantastics! King Tonga's savate kick sent Fulton sailing off of the platform to the floor of the arena. Tonga Kid blasted Rogers with a forearm that dropped him to all fours. Gene Okerlund dropped the microphone and ran for his life as both Islanders began to lay kick after kick into Rogers until he was laying flat on the platform and not moving. Bobby Fulton managed to get to his feet, but Tonga Kid launched himself off the platform and crashed into Fulton with a bodyblock that sent both of them crashing to the floor. King Tonga ascended the stairs, helped his partner off of the floor, and The Islanders left the area to a chorus of boo's. -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, welcome back to WWF Superstars of Wrestling. During the commercial break, Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers of The Fantastics were helped to the dressing room and we are being told that they are receiving medical attention as we speak. We have no idea what has caused King Tonga and Tonga Kid, known collectively as The Islanders to commit this heinous assault, but I understand that they have been escorted out of the building. We will bring you an update on The Fantastics if we have it. Bruno Sammartino: There is far too much of this crap going on around here. Vince McMahon: I can only assume that Bruno is making reference to what happened during the match between World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund and "Superstar" Billy Graham during Saturday Night's Main Event. Let's take a look at some images from that right now. Another slideshow style presentation shows highlights of both Backlund and Graham in control at various times during the contest. Then we see a still shot of Backlund hitting the low blow that caused the Disqualification. Then we see a crazed Backlund wrenching on the Cross Faced Chicken Wing. A shot of all the officials trying to pull Backlund off of Graham, and finally a still shot of Bruno Sammartino with his fists clenched as Backlund smiles at him like a lunatic. _______________________________________________________________ -Match 3- The Scufflin' Hillbillies (Hillbilly Jim/Cousin Luke) beat Pete Doherty/Snake Brown in 4:32 when Hillbilly Jim pinned Pete Doherty after a Big Boot. _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: ALL RIGHT!! That's more like it! The Scufflin' Hillbillies pick up a win! Tell us about it Bruno! Bruno Sammartino: Hillbilly Jim sends Doherty into the ropes and catches him right in the face with that Big Boot. The other Hillbilly stops Brown from entering the ring, and it's all over. Vince McMahon: HA! HA! Look at 'em Square Dancin' Bruno!! Bruno Sammartino: I wish I'd have popped Backlund right in the mouth. Vince McMahon: Uhh...we'll be right back with David Schultz! -Commercial Break- _______________________________________________________________ During the match a Picture in Picture interview with "Dr. D" David Schultz was played/ David Schultz: This past Saturday Night at the Main Event, I was fixing to win that battle royal for the Intercontinental title, when some lettuce picker, some bean eater jumped up and kicked me in my back and cost me that title. Well let me tell you something Tito Santana, the only thing you better be worrying about jumping now, is back over that fence into Mexico, cause the Doctor has his sights set on you, and that means you're gonna get hurt. -Match 4- "Dr. D" David Schultz defeated Rocky King in 3:25 with a Piledriver. _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: Dr. D picks up an easy win in there tonight, and again his comments do not reflect those of the World Wrestling Federation. Lord Alfred Hayes: Tito Santana has apparently painted a target on his back after eliminating Schultz from the battle royal at Saturday Night's Main Event. I can assure you he is not a man that I would want coming after me. Vince McMahon: Certainly not Alfred. Speaking of men I wouldn't want coming after me, let's head over to "Mean" Gene! With Update! With the latest from the World Wrestling Federation, this is Update with: "Mean" Gene: HA! I've already been chased off by The Islanders tonight, I don't need you getting Schultz hot at me too! Anyway.. Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to Update, I'm Gene Okerlund, and if you tuned in to Saturday Night's Main Event this past weekend, you already know what I am about to tell you. But if you didn't, and shame on you, buckle your seat belts, because this news is huge! On Saturday Night, July the Fourth, the World Wrestling Federation is going to make it's debut on Closed Circuit television when we present Wrestlemania! It is going to be all the glitz, all the glamour, and all of your favorite World Wrestling Federation Superstars coming to you live from Madison Square Garden in New York City. You absolutely will not want to miss this one, I guarantee it. Now, right here this week on Superstars of Wrestling, I have for you the announcement of the Main Event for Wrestlemania. After what occurred during Saturday Night's Main Event, World Wrestling Federation President Jack Tunney had the following to say. Jack Tunney: Due to the actions of World Wrestling Federation Champion Bob Backlund at the Saturday Night's Main Event, it has been decided that on July the Fourth at Madison Square Garden in the Main Event of Wrestlemania, "Superstar" Billy Graham will be granted a rematch against Bob Backlund for the WWF World Heavyweight Title. If during that match Bob Backlund intentionally gets himself counted out of the ring or disqualified, the championship will be subject to change hands. Thank You. "Mean" Gene: Alright, there you have it Ladies and Gentleman. This time Bob Backlund will not be able to cheat his way into holding onto the WWF Title. He will face "Superstar" Billy Graham in the Main Event of Wrestlemania, and the title can change hands on Count Out or Disqualification! Think about it Ladies and Gentleman, this is just the first match to be announced for this star studded spectacle, and what a match it is! For Update, I'm Gene Okerlund! -Commercial Break- When we return from commercial we get still highlights of Andre the Giant destroying Grizzly Muldoon on Saturday Night's Main Event. Vince McMahon: Welcome back to Superstars of Wrestling! It's time now for the Eighth Wonder of the World....ANDRE THE GIANT!! _______________________________________________________________ -Match 5- Andre the Giant defeated Rusty Brooks in 3:02 with a Sitdown Splash _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: Oh Yeah! Andre the Giant!! Lord Alfred Hayes: The Giant seemed to be toying with Brooks in there a little bit. He must be in a good mood after disposing of Grizzly Muldoon. Vince McMahon: Alright Ladies and Gentleman, that will do it for this week, but be sure to join us next week when we'll see Greg "The Hammer" Valentine! "The Candyman" Ray Candy!! and the NEW Intercontinental Champion, Ken Patera!! Right here on Superstars of Wrestling!!! You won't want to miss...WHO IS THAT!!! As Andre the Giant is walking up the aisle and from behind the curtain steps steps a man who stands just a hair shorter than Andre. He is dressed in an all black singlet, and is wearing a black mask with white and gold highlights and a lightning bolt in the center of the forehead. This giant masked man raises his arms in the air as the show fades to black.
GeneJackson95
I LOVE the Southern Gentleman character for Robert Fuller and Fidel will make a great addition to his gimmick! Bundy is pissed and somebody is going down for a FIVE! count... Bruno no selling Vince's enthusiasm over Candyman's dancing moves popped me big time, Bruno is subtly one of the most entertaining characters on the show. Whoah!! The Islanders make a statement at the expense of the Fantastics....these will be some classic tag matches coming up! HUGE main event announcement for Wrestlemania! I feel like there may still be more to come about this match...but I may be wrong. I feel like Schultz and Fuller probably ride together....and listen to Charlie Daniels tapes. Andre gets a win and comes face to face with another angry Giant....this should be very interesting! Great follow up to SNME!
spaldoni
Great follow up show from SNME as we get some new storylines going. I absolutely love the Southern Gentleman character. I can totally hear Fuller's southern drawl. LOL his promo from his plantation was priceless. The battle royal between his workers (at their own volition of course) had me rolling. Fidel wins the bodyguard role. This gimmick is going to be so much fun. A Bundy/Candyman program will be a good big man match draw. WOW! Didn't see that swerve coming as the Islanders give the Fantastics quite a beating. I always preferred the Islanders as heels so I'm looking forward to this. I like the little jabs Bruno is taking at Backlund. LOL speaking of Bruno, him playing the straight man to the overly excited Vince is good stuff. I've said this before but the commentating adds so much to your shows. Shultz makes some disparaging remarks towards Tito. Shultz is one crazy dude but Tito is full of fire. Ariba! President Tunney announces the huge main event for WrestleMania! The Superstar gets his rematch. He better watch out because the unhinged Backlund might get his hands on him before the big event. Andre closes the show but who is this monster of a man that confronted him? Man I cant wait to find out. As always great job!
kevinmcfl
For weeks Backlund has been my favorite segment of your show but he now has some competition as Fuller at the plantation was priceless. The fun-loving Candy Man might be in some trouble here with KKB. The Islanders attacking the Fantastics is interesting. This one is so big as I can see only one team surviving this one. I am excited that Superstar is getting the rematch at Wrestlemania. I thought it might be Bruno. While Bruno and Backlund in the ring would be awesome, I would hate to lose Bruno at the announce table. His no nonsense one-liners are priceless. Dr.D. vs Santana: WOW! This one could go on and on with the belt going back and fourth. Interested to see what's next for Andre. I give you credit with him. He is difficult to write for as he just crushed everyone and ruins people you have spent time building up. After that Saturday Night Main Event, I am really looking forward to Wrestlemania.
I'm Vince McMahon and joining me at ringside is Bruno Sammartino, wrestling's Living Legend and His Lordship, Lord Alfred Hayes. We have quite a show for you today as we will see the NEW WWF Intercontinental Champion, Ken Patera! Then from there, "The Candyman" Ray Candy!! Bruno Sammartino: My Son, David Sammartino will also be in action here today. Lord Alfred Hayes: We will also be joined by Greg "The Hammer" Valentine and his manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan as well as The Iron Sheik with "Classy" Freddie Blassie. Vince McMahon: A whole lot of action on tap to be sure, but I am being told that first we are going to take a trip to...The Gentleman's Club? We cut to what is obviously a set, but it is made to look like the inside of a parlor in a mansion. In the center of the set is a small table holding a tray with several glasses and pitcher of what looks to be iced tea. Three chairs sit around the table. Two of them are empty, and in the other sits "The Southern Gentleman" Robert Fuller. He is again dressed in his finest bright white suit, with matching shoes and cowboy hat. His bodyguard/gardener Fidel stands silently behind him in a black suit with sunglasses. Fuller has quite possibly the largest, fakest smile we've seen on his face yet as he begins to speak. Robert Fuller: Wellll, Hello to all the kind folks here in the arena and out there in TV land! Welcome to my Gentleman's Club! As you may already know, I am "The Southern Gentleman" Robert Fuller, and behind me is the man who I have personally chosen to make sure that no undesirables try and molest me. Say hello to all the nice folk watching Fidel.... Fidel: Hola. Robert Fuller: That means Hello for anyone who doesn't speak Mexican! Now, before we go any further, I want to assure you that this Gentleman's Club isn't a place for drunkards and floozies to flaunt themselves. Oh No, No. This is a place for the fine and moral citizens of the World Wrestling Federation to come, enjoy a nice glass of sweet tea, and discuss things that need to be discussed like civilized folk. Sooo...without further adieu, please allow me to introduce my first guest, the lovely and talented....Miss Sunshine! Sunshine comes out from the back and Fuller makes a big show of getting up and pulling a chair out for her. He sits back down and pours her a glass of tea before continuing. Robert Fuller: Sunshine, may I call you Sunshine? Sunshine: You may. Robert Fuller: Well Sunshine, thank you so much for being a guest here at my Gentleman's Club, darling. Now, I don't mean to be anything less than a Gentleman, but I do have to ask. Where is your partner Jimmy Hart? I was expecting him to be here as well. Sunshine: Is that a problem? Robert Fuller: Heaven's No Darlin! Heaveeen's Nooo! Sunshine: Good. Jimmy Hart and I have decided to pursue individual opportunities. Our business deal was built on a mutual agreement to manage an individual who has parted ways with the World Wrestling Federation, and thusly we no longer had a need to do business together. "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly has chosen to go with Jimmy Hart, and... Robert Fuller: Now you have no one to look after. Well Bless Your Heart... Sunshine raises an eyebrow at Fuller. Sunshine: Don't talk down me to Mr. Fuller. Robert Fuller: I Would Never! Sunshine: Mmmhmm. As I was saying, Kelly has chosen to go with Hart, leaving me free to pursue other avenues for clientele. So if I could be so bold as to use your Gentleman's Club to introduce my newest signings? Robert Fuller: By all means Miss Sunshine! Sunshine: Thank You. These men are nearly undefeated here in the World Wrestling Federation, yet time and time again they have been overlooked for a chance to compete for the World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Titles. So last week when they heard The Fantastics out here whining to be given yet another chance to fail at winning those titles, they took matters into their own hands. Please allow me to introduce the men who will no longer be overlooked now that I will be managing their business affairs, allowing them to solely focus on destroying the competition. King Tonga, and The Tonga Kid. The Islanders! King Tonga and The Tonga Kid walk onto the set and come to stand behind Sunshine. Sunshine: Bobby Fulton. Tommy Rogers. What these two men did to you last week is going to seem like a walk in the park compared to what they do to you next time you come anywhere near them. Sunshine nods at Robert Fuller, then exits with The Islanders. Fuller picks up his glass of tea, takes a long drink, then tips his glass toward the camera as we fade out. -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Welcome back to Superstars of Wrestling! Alfred, just before the break we saw Sunshine announce an alliance with The Islanders. Lord Alfred Hayes: Last week when King Tonga and Tonga Kid attacked The Fantastics, I couldn't fathom the reason for it. Knowing now that Sunshine was in their ear telling them they were being passed over for opportunities, it makes much more sense. Vince McMahon: That would appear to be the case. Okay, let's head down to The Fink and our first contest! _______________________________________________________________ During the match we had a picture in picture interview with "Classy" Freddie Blassie and The Iron Sheik. "Classy" Freddie Blassie: Hey Slaughter! You may have eliminated The Iron Sheik from that battle royal, but we got the last laugh you pencil necked geek! Iron Sheik: Slaughter! You no good American, you listen to Sheik. You throw me out of ring, and cost me chompiunship belt. So I do the same to you. Slaughter! Sheik will suplex you. Sheik will put you in Camel Clutch. Sheik will show you that Iran Number Vun! America....HOCK PHTOOH! -Match 1- The Iron Sheik w/"Classy" Freddie Blassie over S.D. Jones in 5:42 by Submission with the Camel Clutch _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: The Iron Sheik picks up the victory. Tell us about it Bruno! Bruno Sammartino: Sheik hammers Jones with a double sledge to the back. Hooks him and takes him over with a beautiful gutwrench suplex, and then locks on that Camel Clutch. Jones had nowhere to go and had to submit. Lord Alfred Hayes: A dominant performance from The Iron Sheik here tonight, and Sgt. Slaughter had best be on the look out, because it would seem that Sheik and Blassie have him in their sights. Vince McMahon: That does appear to be the case Alfred. Okay Ladies and Gentleman, don't go anywhere, cause we'll be right back with The Candyman!! -Commercial Break- _______________________________________________________________ -Match 2- "The Candyman" Ray Candy beat Dusty Wolfe in 3:57 with the Chocolate Drop. During the match King Kong Bundy and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan could be seen looking on from the podium where interviews are usually conducted. They left after Candy secured the win. After the match ended, Candy had several children from the audience come into the ring and dance with him. _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: OH YEAH!! HA! HA! HA! Do you feel the groove Alfred!! Lord Alfred Hayes: Well normally I prefer a good waltz or polka, but this does have a certain rhythm that makes your foot tap. Vince McMahon: All Right!!! Let's groove on over to Update!! With the latest from the World Wrestling Federation, this is Update with: "Mean" Gene: Hello Ladies and Gentleman, and Welcome to Update! I'm Gene Okerlund, and we are just six weeks away from the biggest extravaganza in the history of professional wrestling! I am of course talking about Wrestlemania! Coming to you live from Madison Square Garden on Saturday Night, July the Fourth on Closed Circuit Television. I'm telling you right now there will be no bigger fireworks show than what will be happening in the ring that night. As we announced last week, the main event is set. At Saturday Night's Main Event, Bob Backlund intentionally got himself disqualified when his title was in jeopardy. So a rematch has been signed, and "Superstar" Billy Graham will challenge Bob Backlund for the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship. But this time if the champion gets himself counted out or disqualified, the championship will change hands! There is going to be no way out for Bob Backlund at the Garden! Just added to Wrestlemania will be a battle of the big men. "The Candyman" Ray Candy will step into the ring with King Kong Bundy! Let's hear now from Bundy and his manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. We cut to Bundy and Heenan standing in front of a WWF backdrop. Bobby Heenan: What kind of a grown man calls himself The Candyman? Sounds like the kind of guy who would be driving around the suburbs in a windowless van at dusk. But none of that matters, because after Wrestlemania they'll have to call you the Pancake Man. Because this man, King Kong Bundy is going to squash you flat. King Kong Bundy: CANDYMAN! I'm gonna run you over, and then I'm going to put you down. Cause no one can stand up to The Great Bundy! I am the greatest big man in the World Wrestling Federation! The camera cuts back to "Mean" Gene. "Mean" Gene: With only two matches announced, Wrestlemania is already shaping up to be one for the ages, and I can promise you there is a whole lot more to come. Now, on another matter, at the end of Superstars last week we saw Andre the Giant come face to face with a masked man who stood nearly eye to eye with the Giant. All week long people have been asking me who this man was, and I have to tell you, information is scarce. Here is what I do know. He comes from Japan. He stands Seven Feet, Two Inches Tall and weighs in somewhere around Four Hundred and Fifty Pounds. He calls himself The Giant Machine, and I've been told that next week he will compete here on Superstars of Wrestling. Why he is here, and what he wants with Andre the Giant. I do not know. But I have to tell you, another monster of a man coming after the Giant on the heels of Grizzly Muldoon, seems a bit suspicious in my eyes. It is definitely a situation to keep an eye on. For Update, I'm Gene Okerlund. -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Welcome back to Superstars of Wrestling! Let's head to the ring for our next contest! _______________________________________________________________ -Match 3- David Sammartino over Steve Lombardi in 5:32 with a Powerslam _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: An impressive showing by David Sammartino! Tell us about it Bruno! Bruno Sammartino: My David had worked on the back of Lombardi the whole match. He shoots him into the ropes and on the rebound scoops him up for a... WHAT THE HECK!! As David Sammartino was celebrating his victory, a person came over the guard rail and slid into the ring. Once they stood up it became obvious that it was WWF World Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund. He charged across the ring and smashed David in the back of the head with a stiff elbow strike that sent Sammartino sailing out of the ring. Backlund quickly followed him out to the floor, pulled him to his feet by his hair and sent him arm and shoulder first into the ring post. As Sammartino crashed to the floor, Backlund grabbed the time keeper and flung him bodily out of his chair. Backlund folded up the chair and then brought it crashing down on the shoulder and arm area of the prone Sammartino, once, twice, three times. Backlund tosses the chair aside and yanks Sammartino to his feet by his hair and wrenches the arm he has been working over and looks to be preparing to lock in the Cross Face Chicken Wing. But when he notices Bruno Sammartino barreling down the aisle, followed by a swarm of referees, officials, and security, he instead shoves David face first into the ring post, and then escapes over the guard rail. Bruno Sammartino reaches the scene and almosts looks like he will give chase to Backlund, but he instead kneels next to his son who is now bleeding from his forhead and clutching his arm. An EMT kneeling next to David touches the arm causing the youngster to let out a scream. We then hear a voice say "I think it's broken" followed by Bruno Sammartino's voice saying "It's going to be okay." Vince McMahon: Let's uh....let's go to commercial..... -Commercial Break- As we return to Superstars of Wrestling, we see a stretcher surrounded by several EMTs taking David Sammartino up the aisle. Bruno Sammartino is walking behind with a look that is somewhere between concern and hate. Once the procession has disappeared behind the curtain, we cut back to the announce position. Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, as you can see David Sammartino is being attended to by medical personnel, and as I understand it, he will be transported from here to a local medical facility for further evaluation. We expect that his father Bruno Sammartino will be joining him, and we of course send our best wishes out to young David. Lord Alfred Hayes: You have to think that World Wrestling Federation President Jack Tunney will levy some kind of fine or suspension against Bob Backlund after that kind of unprovoked assault. WWF Champion or not, that man should not be allowed to get away with heinous actions such as those. Vince McMahon: I couldn't agree with you more Alfred. Ladies and Gentleman, we are going to take another quick break to allow the fans in attendance and ourselves a moment to get prepared, and then we will return with more action. PROMOTIONAL CONSIDERATION PAID FOR BY THE FOLLOWING: N-E-S-T-L-E-S....Nestle's makes the very best! -Commercial Break- _______________________________________________________________ -Match 4- Greg "The Hammer" Valentine w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan defeated Johnny Rodz in 4:49 by submission with the Figure Four Leglock. _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: Bobby Heenan looks to be a very happy man, as "The Hammer" puts another opponent away. Lord Alfred Hayes: Valentine is very methodical in his dismantling of opponents. He attacks that leg with such ferocity that the moment he is able to sink in that Figure Four Leglock, the opponent has no choice but to submit. A very dangerous competitor indeed. Vince McMahon: Speaking of dangerous competitors, let's head over to "Mean" Gene who is going to speak with the New Intercontinental Champion, Ken Patera! We cut to the elevated platform away from the ring where we see "Mean" Gene Okerlund standing with a microphone in his hands. "Mean" Gene: Ladies and Gentleman, please join me in welcoming the man who survived nineteen other competitors at Saturday Night's Main Event to become the World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Champion, Ken Patera! Patera comes to the podium dressed in his wrestling attire and has the IC Title strapped around his waist. "Mean" Gene: Ken Patera, first of all congratulations on your big win and on becoming the Intercontinental Champion. Please tell us what that championship means to you. Ken Patera: First of all Gene, Thank You, and Thank You to all of these people for standing behind me. Ever since I was a kid I've been competing. Whether it was football in high school, the shot put, or weightlifting, I have always strived to be the best. So when I was able to defeat nineteen other men to win this Intercontinental Title, I have to tell you it was a great feeling. "Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah" The words of Bobby Heenan carry over the microphone as he and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine walk onto the stage with Okerlund and Patera "Mean" Gene: Bobby Heenan, Greg Valentine, I've had enough shenanigans up here, we don't need you two causing trouble. Bobby "The Brain" Heenan: Oh, I'm not here to cause trouble Okerlund. I just couldn't help but hear this musclehead saying that he always wanted to be the best, and how great it felt to win that battle royal. Well, I'm here to tell him that winning that battle royal doesn't make him the best, it makes him lucky! This man Greg Valentine was beating you with in an inch of your life Patera. Then when he was charging across that ring to knock you out to the floor, you started flailing wildly to try and save yourself and got lucky. Ken Patera: Is that so? Bobby "The Brain" Heenan: You're darn right, that's so. Let me tell you a little more Patera. You think just because you have those big muscles and can push some weights above your head that makes you a tough guy, well let me tell you something. They don't call this man "The Hammer" because of his above average carpentry skills! He earned that nickname by taking jerks like you and making them scream for mercy. So if you ever find the guts to give the man who should rightfully be the Intercontinental Champion a shot at that belt, that will be the end of you tough guy. Heenan turns around to leave and motions for Valentine to follow him. Valentine smirks at Patera before following Heenan off the platform. "Mean" Gene: Ken Patera? Ken Patera: You know for a guy who is supposed to be so tough, he sure let's that twerp do all of his talking! But I'm not backing down from any challenge. So Valentine, any time, any place. You want a shot at this belt, you want a shot at me. Let's do it big man! "Mean" Gene: All Right, Ladies and Gentleman! There you have it! We'll be right back with the Champion in action! _______________________________________________________________ -Match 5- Ken Patera over Barry Horowitz in 3:58 by submission with Spinning Full Nelson _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: A fired up Ken Patera gets the win! Lord Alfred Hayes: A potential match between Patera and Valentine is very intriguing. Valentine is the master mat technician, and Patera is just raw strength and will. That would certainly be one for the ages. Vince McMahon: Indeed it would Alfred. Ladies and Gentleman, as of right now we have received no word on the condition of David Sammartino. Our thoughts and best wishes are of course with our broadcast partner Bruno Sammartino and his family right now. We hope to be able to bring you an update next week. Also next week, we will have Pedro Morales in action. The Islanders will be here in tag team action, and Tito Santana will be in competition. We'll see you next week for more Superstars of Wrestling. kevinmcfl
Awesome show! The Gentleman's Club was great and is one of my favorite segments in the entire game after just one week. Lord Alfred Hayes and his comments during the Candy Man Match had me laughing out loud! It looks like we might get Slaughter vs the Sheik and Patera vs Valentine. Those would be huge matches for Wrestlemania. Those American vs the Foreign Invader where so hot in the 80's. Perfect booking and Patera vs Valentine might just be the match of the card. Often, Valentine has not gotten the attention he deserves in this games and you have him right where he belongs... near the top. You have me hooked in on this Backlund/Bruno thing. I know wrestlemania has Backlund vs the Superstar in a rematch but the last few weeks has me wondering what is going on. Great booking! spaldoni
As always, great job. The Gentleman's Club is pure genius! Fuller is so damn good. His first guest Sunshine drops a bombshell as she introduces her new clients, the Islanders! This works well as she will be a solid mouthpiece for them. I hope to see a lot more of the Gentleman's Club. LOL, Sheik's promo was spot on. Sheik and Slaughter could be the feud of the summer. Again, the commentators add so much to the show. Oh yea! Bundy vs. Candyman at Mania! Looks like Andre and Giant Machine are heading for a colossal showdown. WOW! Backlund gives young David a beating he'll never forget! David does the stretcher job. Very well done segment. Vince and Alfred sold this well. Bruno being filled with hate and concern summed it all up. I know Bruno is going to want a piece of Backlund. It's personal now. Patera doesn't get long to celebrate as Heenan demands he defends against his man Valentine. We have our first IC title program. Things are setting up nicely for WrestleMaina. It's going to be an epic 4th of July!
Wahoos Leg
WrestleMania on July 4 seems a perfect fit! I'm stoked to see it!
GeneJackson95
Words can't express how much I love the Gentleman's Club with Robert Fuller! It's a shame Fuller never got an opportunity like this in real life but I'm going to enjoy this here in the WWF for all it's worth. Sunshine made for a great first guest and this was a perfect forum for her to announce she's parted ways with Jimmy Hart and will be managing the Islanders now. Great heat for Backlund beating up Lil' Bruno and if Papa wasn't fuming over Backlund before....he damn sure is now!! Bundy vs. Candyman is a perfect match for Wrestlemania! Looking forward to seeing the big men collide and how it plays out! Giant Machine vs. Andre will be interesting to say the least....you've done a good job so far finding guys who at least size wise can measure up to Andre. Valentine is a great first challenger for Patera's IC title....and could very well end his reign before it get's started....Wrestlemania is looking like a very solid card!!
I'm Vince McMahon and joining me at ringside is His Lordship, Lord Alfred Hayes. After the dastardly attack by World Wrestling Federation Champion Bob Backlund on his son David last week, Bruno Sammartino will not be joining us. Since last week we have learned that David received several stitches to close the laceration on his forehead, and that there was damage done to his arm, but we don't know the full severity of that injury. The Sammartino family has chosen to keep the condition of David guarded, and we will respect their privacy. Lord Alfred Hayes: It is my understanding that after the events of last week World Wrestling Federation President Jack Tunney levied a fine of Ten Thousand Dollars on WWF Champion Bob Backlund for perpetuating that heinous assault. Vince McMahon: He's lucky that is all he got. But, the show must go on, so in action this week we will have Pedro Morales! "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly with his manager Jimmy Hart! Then from there we will see Tito Santana!! Lord Alfred Hayes: The Islanders with their new attitude and their new manager Sunshine will join us today, and the challenger for the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania, "Superstar" Billy Graham will join us for a very special interview. Vince McMahon: But up first, we are going to get a look at the monstrous masked man who stood nearly nose to nose with Andre the Giant just two weeks ago. Let's head to the ring for The Giant Machine. _______________________________________________________________ -Match 1- The Giant Machine beat Duane Gill in 1:08 with a Leg Drop _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: OH MY!!! Tell us about it...Alfred. Lord Alfred Hayes: This Giant Machine hit Gill with several clubbing shots to the back. Then lifted him into the air for a body slam, walked him around the ring like he weighed nothing and then planted him down hard to the canvas. Then he propelled himself off the ropes and got incredible height before crashing down with a big leg drop that secured the victory. Vince McMahon: We don't know why this big man is coming after Andre, but if he can perform like that against The Giant, Andre may have some competition on his hands! We'll be right back! PROMOTIONAL CONSIDERATION PAID FOR BY THE FOLLOWING: Whether it's the Roast Beef, the Curly Fries, an Uncle Alligator meal, or the Endless Salad Bar, it's gotta be RAX! All the Right Stuff! RAX, Fast Food With Style! -Commercial Break- _______________________________________________________________ During the match a picture in picture interview was played. Jimmy Hart: YEAH BABY! Me and Sunshine might be splitsville, but "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly knew which side was going to be the winning team! HA! HA! HA! Kevin Kelly: DJ Peterson! You may think you're hot stuff with your big muscles and all of these people cheering for you. But what you aren't is Magnificent. So you'd best watch out, cause Kevin Kelly is coming for you. -Match 2- "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly over Mario Mancini in 4:11 by submission with the Sleeperhold _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: A big win for "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly, and it would appear that he has one DJ Peterson in his sights! Lord Alfred Hayes: They are both up and coming superstars here in the World Wrestling Federation. If they were to battle, the winner would certainly be elevated into the upper echelon. Vince McMahon: Indeed they would Alfred. Let's head over now to "Mean" Gene and a special interview with "Superstar" Billy Graham! We cut to the elevated platform away from the ring where we see "Mean" Gene Okerlund standing with a microphone in his hands. "Mean" Gene: Ladies and Gentleman, if you would, please join me in welcoming the man who will challenge Bob Backlund for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania. "Superstar" Billy Graham!! "Superstar" comes out to a huge ovation and stops several times to slap hands and flex his muscles for the crowd. He finally gets to the stage and Okerlund begins. "Mean" Gene: All right, "Superstar" Billy Graham, you are the man who will challenge Bob Backlund for the WWF Title at Wrestlemania. It has become increasingly apparent that Backlund is becoming inceasingly more erratic as of late. "Superstar" Billy Graham: There's no need to mince words Gene. Bob Backlund has gone crazy as a loon. He's off his rocker. He's certifiable if you will. "Mean" Gene: Well, I'm glad you said it. Last week we saw him cross a line and brutally assault David Sammartino, which led to hospitalization for David, and led to WWF President Jack Tunney fining Bob Backlund the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars. "Superstar" Billy Graham: You know Gene, the wrestling business is a dangerous place. When you step into that ring, you always know there is a chance you could get hurt and you could get hurt real bad. But what Backlund did last week. Gene, you just don't do that to a man. You don't do that to a man's family. I've been doing a lot of thinking Gene. A lot of thinking. "Mean" Gene: About what Billy? "Superstar" Billy Graham: Jack Tunney! I know you're listening brother. I need you to meet me here next week. We have something to discuss. Gene. I'll see you next week. "Superstar" heads toward the dressing room leaving a baffled Gene holding the microphone, and a confused crowd mostly silent as we head to commercial. -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Welcome back to Superstars of Wrestling! Before the break we saw a very subdued "Superstar" Billy Graham call for WWF President Jack Tunney to meet him face to face here on Superstars next week. What do you think that could be about Alfred? Lord Alfred Hayes: I hate to even venture a guess. Graham certainly didn't seem himself today, so I'm not sure what he has on his mind. Vince McMahon: I suppose we will have to wait and see what happens next week. For now, let's head down to the ring where Tito Santana is set for action! _______________________________________________________________ -Match 3- Tito Santana defeated Frank Williams in 4:18 with a Flying Forearm As Santana was having his hand raised by the referee after his victory, "Dr. D" David Schultz slid into the ring behind him and nailed him with a knee to the back. The momentum of the blow sent Santana sailing out of the ring and to the floor. Schultz followed him out and used one of the cables from a camera and began to choke the life out of Santana, until a swarm of refs and officials came to ringside and pulled him off. _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: SOMEONE GET HIM OUT OF THERE!! Lord Alfred Hayes: Now this Schultz is shoving officials and referee's on his way out of the arena. Apparently he isn't concerned about a fine like the one Backlund received. Vince McMahon: He'd better be concerned about what will happen when he faces Tito Santana one on one. You know Tito is going to want some revenge. Lord Alfred Hayes: Oh, he most assuredly will. This is guaranteed to be quite a donnybrook when it occurs. -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Welcome back to Superstars of Wrestling! Up next we are going to see The Islanders along with their new manager, Sunshine. However just before we came back on air we were given a memo from Sunshine stating that King Tonga is now to be called Haku, and the Tonga Kid is now to be called Tama. Apparently these are their traditional island warrior names and they know longer wish to be referred to by anything else. So we will respect their wishes. _______________________________________________________________ -Match 4- The Islanders (Haku/Tama) w/Sunshine defeated Barry Hardy/Brian Costello in 2:38 when Tama pinned Hardy after a Top Rope Splash. _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: Oh My! An all out assault from The Islanders! Tell us about it Alfred!! Lord Alfred Hayes: The moment the bell rang, Haku and Tama pounced on the opponents and just savaged them with chops and kicks. After that, Haku beat Hardy senseless before flattening him with a reverse thrust kick. He then tagged in Tama who sailed half way across the ring and crashed down on the fallen man with a brutal splash. There was no getting up from that one. Vince McMahon: Indeed Alfred. That official could have counted to a thousand. This new attitude for The Islanders is going to be bad news for the entire tag team division here in the World Wrestling Federation. Lord Alfred Hayes: It most certainly is. The Fantastics have already felt the brunt of it. You have to wonder who will be next. Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, we'll be right back with our feature contest involving former WWF Champion, Pedro Morales! Don't go away! -Commercial Break- _______________________________________________________________ -Match 5- Pedro Morales over The Bounty Hunter in 4:49 by sunbmission with The Boston Crab. After the match Morales asked for the house microphone. Pedro Morales: Bob Backlund! You and I used to be friends, compadres, but now you are acting like a maniac and I don't like it. I know I haven't been back here in the WWF long enough to earn a shot at the WWF Championship, but I still want a shot at kicking your butt! So if you have the guts Backlund, how about picking on someone your own size! _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: All Right!! Pedro Morales calling out Bob Backlund and he doesn't want a title match, he wants a good old fashioned fight Alfred!! Lord Alfred Hayes: Morales and Backlund once held the WWF Tag Team Titles together, so these two men know one another very well. Pedro obviously doesn't like the changes he is seeing in his old partner. If Backlund accepts this match, it would be quite the contest. Vince McMahon: Indeed it would Alfred. Right now, let's head over to Update with "Mean" Gene! With the latest from the World Wrestling Federation, this is Update with: "Mean" Gene: Hello Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to Update! We are just five weeks away from what is shaping up to be the biggest event in the history of professional wrestling. Other companies may have parades, and they may throw bashes, but I assure you there will only be one Wrestlemania. We already know that on that night we will see World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund defend that title against "Superstar" Billy Graham in a match where the Championship can change hands on a Disqualification or a Count Out. However as we saw earlier this evening, Billy Graham has asked for WWF President Jack Tunney to personally meet him here next week on Superstars of Wrestling. What does the "Superstar" want to discuss? We don't know. But what I do know is that Jack Tunney will be in attendance! Word has come down from his office that he will be with us, live, next week on Superstars. Also, as we announced last week we will see a battle of the super heavyweights at Wrestlemania. The four hundred and fifty plus pound King Kong Bundy along with his manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan will meet the three hundred and fifty pound "Candyman" Ray Candy. "The Candyman" had these comments! We cut to "The Candyman" Ray Candy standing in front of a WWF backdrop. He is dressed in his candy cane striped tights, and his red vest. He has a big smile on his face as the interview begins. Ray Candy: King Kong Bundy! You still sour over what happened at the battle royal on Saturday Night's Main Event? You still mad cause "The Candyman" came out and danced during your match and it was SOOOO sweet! Well let me tell you something Ding Dong Crunchy! At Wrestlemania, when "The Candyman" hits you with the Chocolate Drop, I am going to get a big ole PayDay, and you'll be thinking you are somewhere in the Milky Way! Ya Dig It! "Mean" Gene: Now Ladies and Gentleman, this week we have two more matches to add to this Fourth of July Spectacular. Which again, will be available exclusively on Closed Circuit Television. The first will see the men we saw earlier in the hour, Haku and Tama, The Islanders along with their manager, Sunshine take on the men they assaulted several weeks back, Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers, The Fantastics. We tried to get comments from The Fantastics, but they are in what is being called by those close to them, intensive training ever since the assault several weeks ago. After the viciousness we saw displayed by The Islanders earlier, they may need it. Also, after the events of last week, Ken Patera will defend his newly won Intercontinental Championship against Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. Our World Wrestling Federation cameras caught up with Valentine and his manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. We are taken to Heenan and Valentine in what looks to be the arena parking lot. Bobby "The Brain" Heenan: So Patera has decided to defend the Intercontinental Title against Greg "The Hammer" Valentine at Wrestlemania? Well color me shocked! After failing as an Olympian, and failing as a powerlifter, I figured he would rest on his laurels of accidentally winning a battle royal for the rest of his life. So congratulation on proving me wrong Patera. So you enjoy holding on to your shiny new toy for another five weeks until Greg Valentine turns your leg into mince meat and makes you a failure at professional wrestling too. Greg Valentine: Ken Patera! When we step into that ring, I am going to show you why they call me "The Hammer" when I pound your leg until you can't walk anymore. Then when I apply the Figure Four Leglock you'll scream in pain and beg to quit. Then I will be the Intercontinental Champion! "Mean" Gene: Ladies and Gentleman, two huge title matches are already signed, and there is so much more to come. If you are going to spend your hard earned dollars on a Closed Circuit show this summer, make sure and choose the one that everyone is going to be talking about. Saturday Night, July the Fourth. Wrestlemania! For Update, I'm Gene Okerlund! -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Thank You So Much for tuning into Superstars of Wrestling this week! Please join us next week where we will have action featuring The Gunslingers! DJ Peterson! SGT. SLAUGHTER!!! and World Wrestling Federation President Jack Tunney will be here to find out exactly what is on the mind of "Superstar" Billy Graham. You won't want to miss it. See You Next Week!! (Show was a bit shorter than normal, but I've been out of town all week! Hope you all enjoy!)
spaldoni
Man I cant say it enough. The commentators are such a great part of the show. You have them down word for word. I cant imagine how furious Bruno is right now. One has to wonder what this will mentally do to young David. Giant Machine makes a strong debut as he's on a collision course with Andre. Jimmy Hart's client Mr. Magnificent looks good and has called out DJ Peterson. This will be an intriguing match between two rising stars. Oh man I wonder what's on the Superstar's mind??? Things get real as Shultz gives Tito quite a beating. I know Tito is going to be coming back with fire. Ariba! This could really be a top notch feud. Islanders are in full heel mode now and pick up a devastating win. Watch out Backlund. You have a fired up Morales coming after you. Or maybe Morales should watch out LOL. WrestleMania is heating up! Like the slight jab at the other territories LOL. Great promo by the Candyman. It's official, Patera vs. Valentine! That's going to be a good one. Another fun match will be the Islanders and Fantastics. Good heat there. Great job building up this epic event. I wonder if the celebrities are coming out? Cant wait to hear what the Superstar has to say next week. Good stuff as always.
GeneJackson95
Bruno is somewhere fuming right now and plotting revenge on Bob Backlund, I'm quite sure of it....just not sure how he intends to carry it out! The Giant Machine is another opponent for Andre who can nearly match size with him….it will be interesting if he can get more traction than Muldoon did. I always love the commercials, I only ate at (or even saw) a RAX one time when I was a kid when we were visiting relatives up north. I also used to have a wrestling trading card that had RAX on it….so fun nostalgia here! Good to see Jimmy Hart and Mr. Magnificent taking the split with Sunshine in stride, DJ Peterson will be good test for Kelly. Very interesting words from Superstar Graham, can't wait to see what he needs to discuss with Tunney next week. "Dr. D" may have bit off more than he can chew with the fiery Tito…..should make for some fun matches! I always preferred the heel Islanders and I think Sunshine is a great choice as their manager….happy to see them revert to Haku/Tama as well. Folks need to watch themselves questioning Mr. Backlund's sanity….they could end up like David Sammartino. Great show all around this week but the "Candyman's" promo is my favorite! So looking forward to his showdown with Bundy! Wrestlemania continues to come together nicely! Fantastics vs. the Islanders is a great tag match that we never got IRL! Patera vs. Valentine should be a hard hitting bout for the IC title!
kevinmcfl
Another fun read. I like the Islanders going with the traditional island names. What does Superstar want to talk to Tunney about. You have set the hook in already and now I can't wait for the next show. The promo with the Candy Man was priceless! Patera vs Valentine is big time! Crazy Backlund seems to be on everyone's mind! What a heel he has become! Looking forward to Wrestlemania Thanks for making finally, after 48 years, enjoy the WWF
I'm Vince McMahon and joining me at ringside is His Lordship, Lord Alfred Hayes. We have a lot of action in store for you today as we will see Sgt. Slaughter in action!! Then from there, The Red Scare with "Classy" Freddie Blassie will be in tag team competition. Lord Alfred Hayes: Scott Casey and Johnny Mantell, The Gunslingers will also be competing in tag team competition here this week, and the very impressive young man, DJ Peterson will look to continue his winning streak when he steps into the ring. Vince McMahon: But up first Ladies and Gentleman, we have the World Wrestling Federation debuts of two of the biggest and brightest stars to ever come out of the state of Texas. Some of you may already know them, but if you don't, get ready for some exciting action, because Kevin and Kerry, The Von Erich's are in the WWF! _______________________________________________________________ As the boys are making their entrance, we cut to a picture in picture interview with Kevin and Kerry standing in front of a WWF backdrop. Kevin Von Erich: For those of you who don't know, my name is Kevin Von Erich, and this is my brother Kerry. Our family has been in the professional wrestling business for a lot of years, and we've been doing this since we were little kids. But now we've come here to the WWF to test all of our skills against the best competition in the world. Kerry Von Erich: British Bulldogs! Islanders! It doesn't matter who you are. Any tag team that steps into the ring with my brother and I is going to find out that the Von Erich's are the best in the world. -Match 1- The Von Erich's (Kerry Von Erich/Kevin Von Erich) beat Bob Bradley/Steve Lombardi in 5:11 when Kevin pinned Bradley after the Von Erich Leap _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: ALL RIGHT! The Von Erich's pick up a big win! Let's watch the replay. Lord Alfred Hayes: All four men are momentarily in the ring, and Kerry Von Erich hits an amazing spinning punch that sends Steve Lombardi sailing out of the ring. Bob Bradley charges at Kevin but gets taken down with a dropkick. Then Kevin goes to the top rope and hits a breath taking cross body block where he completes a full turn in mid air. I've never seen anything like it. Vince McMahon: You have to believe that everyone in the tag team division just got put on high alert with the arrival of The Von Erich's. Ladies and Gentleman, we'll be right back with DJ Peterson in action! PROMOTIONAL CONSIDERATION PAID FOR BY THE FOLLOWING: All You Can Eat Salad? Yep! All You Can Eat Pizza? Yep! All You Can Eat Dessert? Yep! When you want pizza from out, it's gotta be Pizza Inn! -Commercial Break- _______________________________________________________________ During the match we cut to a picture in picture interview with DJ Peterson standing in front of a WWF backdrop. DJ Peterson: Hey Kevin Kelly, I heard you and your little pipsqueak manager out here running your mouths last week. If it's a fight you're looking for Kevin, I'm not a hard guy to find. How about you and me go one on one at Wrestlemania! Maybe I can shove Jimmy's magnificent head up your magnificent butt! -Match 2- DJ Peterson over Rusty Brooks in 3:39 with a Shoulder Block from the Second Rope _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: DJ Peterson picks up another victory with that huge shoulder block from the ropes. "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly had better be on the look out for that one. Lord Alfred Hayes: Not only that, but he'd best be wary of Jimmy Hart's head coming to close to his behind when DJ is around. Vince McMahon: HA! HA! HA! -Commercial Break- As Superstars returns from commercial, we are taken to the set of "The Gentleman's Club." As before it is decorated to look like the parlor of a mansion, and there is a table with a pitcher of Iced Tea and several glasses sitting in the middle of it. However, the table is slightly larger than before, this time with six chairs around it. At the far end sits "The Southern Gentleman" Robert Fuller dressed in his finest white suit and matching cowboy hat. Behind him in black suit and sunglasses is his bodyguard Fidel. Fuller puts on a phony shocked expression when the camera focuses in on him. Robert Fuller: Wellll, helllo there! Welcome back to my Gentleman's Club! For anyone who hasn't been paying attention, and shame on you! My name is Robert Fuller, and they call me "The Southern Gentleman." The fierce looking fellow standing behind me is my own personal security, which I of course need to keep undesirables and riff raff from trying to do me harm, and his name is Fidel. Fidel, say hello to all of the wonderful folks out there in Television Land! Fidel just nods at the camera Robert Fuller: I Say, I don't pay the boy for his conversation skills now do I! Ha! No, I don't! Anyhow, anyhow. This week on The Gentleman's Club, we have some very special guests. As a man who came from many generations of greatness here in the wrasslin' business, I know better than most that there is nothing more important than family. So it brings me great pride to introduce my guests this week, Bobby Heenan and the members of his Heenan Family! "The Brain" walks onto the set and immediately looks around at the decor and nods in appreciation. Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid follow him dressed in track suits and carrying the WWF Tag Team Titles on their shoulders. Greg Valentine comes in third wearing a suit, and is followed by King Kong Bundy who is dressed in his singlet. All five of them take the seats around the table. Robert Fuller: Mr. Heenan! Welcome to my Gentleman's Club! It's an honor to have another gentleman such as yourself gracing my humble abode! Bobby Heenan: No, Thank You Mr. Fuller, it's my pleasure to finally be interviewed by someone with class and dignity. Do you have any idea how tired I am of talking to Okerlund! I feel like I need a shower every time I get near him! Robert Fuller: The man certainly does have a peculiar stench about him. But let's not waste our precious time on that imbecile. You have four spectacular athletes that you represent here, and I would like to make sure that all of them get a chance to be heard. Bobby Heenan: Let's start down there at the end. Four Hundred and Fifty Pounds of one of the biggest, baddest men in the whole world in King Kong Bundy, and this dancing idiot "The Candyman" thinks he has a prayer? Think again pal! King Kong Bundy: CANDY! You may be a big man, but you're not King Kong Bundy! I'm the greatest big man that ever stepped foot in a wrestling ring! At Wrestlemania you can do all the stupid dancing you want to do, but when I squash you for the count of FIIIVVVEEE....your dancing days will be over. Fuller fans himself with his cowboy hat and grins before continuing. Robert Fuller: Welll, I certainly wouldn't want to be in Mr. Candy's boots right now. But since I am a Southern Gentleman, I'll tell y'all what. If King Kong down there leaves enough of "The Candyman" that he can still walk, I am sure I can find him some work on the Fuller Plantation! Mr. Heenan, please continue. Bobby Heenan: Sitting next to Mr. Bundy, is a man who like yourself Robert has a family heritage in the wrestling business. He is the man who is going to challenge that musclebound moron Ken Patera for the Intercontinental Title at Wrestlemania. The man they call "The Hammer" Greg Valentine. Greg Valentine: Patera, I hope you are enjoying your time with that title, because when you and I step into the ring at Wrestlemania, you are going to find out that all of those muscles don't mean a thing when I take your leg apart. You keep saying that you are going to beat me with the Full Nelson, but you have to be able to walk to do it. Bobby Heenan: Then last, but most certainly not least, we have the World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champions, Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid, The British Bulldogs. Robert Fuller: If you'll pardon my interruption Bobby, I obviously understand the British part, but why Bulldogs? Davey Boy Smith: Cause we're mean and bad tempered. Dynamite Kid puts one of the Tag Titles down on the table with a loud thump. Dynamite Kid: and if you try to take what belongs to us, we'll bloody well tear your arm off. Fuller's eyes get a bit wide, and Fidel steps to his side. Heenan cracks a smile, which causes Fuller to crack a smile, and he casually waves Fidel back. Robert Fuller: Thank You for the education gentleman! Bobby Heenan: So if The Fantastics want to get beat up again, or The Gunslingers, or The Islanders, or even these Von Erich's that showed up flapping their gums recently. Come on down to the ring, and my Bulldogs will be happy to show you exactly why they are the champions. Now Robert, if you'll excuse us, we have some family business to attend too. Robert Fuller Welll of course! Thank You so much for coming Gentleman! Y'all are welcome back anytime! Valentine and Bundy leave the set as Heenan shakes hands with "The Southern Gentleman" and The Bulldogs and Fidel eye one another. -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Welcome back to Superstars of Wrestling! We'd like to apologize to anyone offended by the comments of Mr. Fuller..or Bobby Heenan...or any members of the Heenan Family. Lord Alfred Hayes: The British Bulldogs certainly appeared ready for a fight there in the Gentleman's Club. Vince McMahon: Well, if they are looking for a fight there are plenty of tag teams who would be happy to give them one. Like The Fantastics, or the Von Erich's, or these men...The Gunslingers! _______________________________________________________________ -Match 3- The Gunslingers (Scott Casey/Johnny Mantell) defeated Duane Gill/Dusty Wolfe in 4:54 when Mantell pinned Wolfe after a Double Bulldog _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: Oh Yeah! The Gunslingers pick up another victory! They've been on quite the roll here in the World Wrestling Federation. Lord Alfred Hayes: They certainly have Vince. You would think they must be in consideration for a shot at the Tag Team Titles, but at the same time they also have unfinished business with the Red Scare I'm sure they would like to take care of. Vince McMahon: Well, let's head over to the man who just might know, let's go to Update with "Mean" Gene! With the latest from the World Wrestling Federation, this is Update with: "Mean" Gene: Hello Ladies and Gentleman and Welcome to Update! As you surely know by now, we are just one month away from the biggest event in the history of the World Wrestling Federation. Quite possibly the biggest event in the history of professional wrestling! I am of course talking about Saturday Night, July the Fourth. I am of course talking about Wrestlemania! We already have four huge matches that have been announced for that night. The first is the battle of the behemoths as "The Candyman" Ray Candy steps into the ring against Heenan Family member King Kong Bundy. They will certainly need to reinforce the ring before these two massive athletes collide. Also announced is Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers, The Fantastics stepping into the ring against the men now known as Haku and Tama, The Islanders. They are standing by with their manager, Sunshine. We cut to Sunshine dressed in a white summer dress with a black jacket over top of it, standing in front of Haku and Tama who are decked out in matching dark blue island themed attire. They both growl angrily at the camera as she speaks. Sunshine: For months The Fantastics were given shot after shot at the WWF Tag Team Titles and each time they failed to win those belts. Meanwhile my men Haku and Tama were dominating everyone they stepped into the ring against and time and time again they were overlooked for a chance at those titles. That all stops now. Because at Wrestlemania, my Islanders will make a definitive statement when they destroy Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers, and the powers that be will have no choice but to give them what they deserve. Both Islanders make louder growls and stick out their tongues as Sunshine smirks. "Mean" Gene: The World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship will be on the line at Wrestlemania when Ken Patera puts the gold on the line against Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. We cut to Ken Patera with the Intercontinental Title slung over his shoulder standing in front of a WWF backdrop. Ken Patera: Valentine! Heenan! The two of you can talk all you want. You can call me a muscle head, you can talk about how you are gonna break my legs. But I've been in this business a long time, and I didn't become the Intercontinental Champion because I'm a fluke. So the two of you had better quit talking and start getting ready, because at Wrestlemania, you are going to find out what happens when you step in the ring with the strongest man in the world! "Mean" Gene: Then in the main event, World Wrestling Federation Champion Bob Backlund will defend that championship against "Superstar" Billy Graham in a match where the title can change hands on a Disqualification or a Count Out. Our World Wrestling Federation cameras tried to get words from Champion Bob Backlund, but most unusually he would not grant them an interview. As for "Superstar" Billy Graham, I will be speaking with him a bit later in the show as he has requested a face to face meeting with World Wrestling Federation President Jack Tunney. Now, this week we have two more big matches to add to this already exciting extravaganza. First up after both men have exchanged words these past few weeks, a match between DJ Peterson and "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly has been signed and will take place at Wrestlemania. Then after the events of last week, a Wrestlemania Street Fight has been signed between Tito Santana, and this man....David Schultz. David Schultz: I don't know who here in the WWF hates you Burrito Santana, but apparently someone does. Cause at Wrasslemania, they've put you in a street fight with the Doctor! That means I can do whatever I want to you boy. If I wanna throw you out on the floor and choke you with a cable, I can. If I wanna hit you over the head with a chair, I can do that too. If I wanna go out in the crowd and grab a fat broad and throw her at you, I will! I can do anything I want to you, and there ain't nothing you can do about it. You know why Santana? Cause you're just a good for nothing punk who doesn't deserve to be in the same ring with Doctor D. But if your lucky, maybe after I finish beating on you, there'll be enough left that you can still go pick some apples or wash some dishes or something. I'm sure you got about a dozen kids to feed. That being said Santana, and since the Doctor is a fair man. I'll give you one chance, one opportunity if you will. Anytime between now and Wrasslemania, you come out here on TV and tell all of these people that you're scared of the Doctor. That you're scared of what the Doctor is going to do to you in a street fight. You tell them that, and then you quit the WWF and you have my word. You have the Doctor's Word! That I will give you a job mowing my lawn every week. You're Welcome! "Mean" Gene: What a despicable human being. I can assure you that Tito Santana will do no such thing. Well folks, we have six big matches signed, with a lot more to come. Wrestlemania is going to be the biggest show of the summer. Make sure to contact your Closed Circuit provider so you don't miss out! For Update, I'm Gene Okerlund! -Commercial Break- _______________________________________________________________ -Match 4- The Red Scare (Nikolai Volkoff/Boris Zhukov) defeated Dave Allen/Rocky King in 5:14 when Zhukov pinned Allen after a Running Headbutt _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: Tell us about it Alfred! Lord Alfred Hayes: Big Nikolai plants Dave Allen in the center of the ring with a huge bodyslam. He then tags in Boris who charges across the ring and just devastates Allen by running that gigantic cranium directly into his chest. There's no getting up from that. Vince McMahon: It is a large head isn't it Alfred? Lord Alfred Hayes: Oh indeed it is! Vince McMahon: Ha! Ha! Ha! We'll be right back with Sgt. Slaughter!!! -Commercial Break- _______________________________________________________________ -Match 5- Sgt. Slaughter over Frank Williams in 3:48 by submission with the Cobra Clutch After the match as Sgt. Slaughter was getting his hand raised in victory, Nikolai Volkoff and Boris Zhukov hit the ring and attacked him from behind. Just a few steps behind them came The Iron Sheik. The three of them began laying the boots to the fallen Slaughter much to the chagrin of the crowd. The Sheik stepped over Slaughter and was about to apply the Camel Clutch when a roar went up from the crowd and The Gunslingers charged into the ring wielding steel chairs! Sheik and Volkoff made it out of the ring, but Scott Casey was able to lay a good shot into the back of Boris Zhukov before he could make it out of the ring. Sheik and the Russians quickly escaped to the dressing room as Casey and Mantell helped Slaughter to his feet. _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: OH MY!! It's a good thing The Gunslingers were still in the building! Lord Alfred Hayes: "Classy" Freddie Blassie was nowhere to be seen, but his men were certainly working together to orchestrate that attack. Sgt. Slaughter and The Iron Sheik have been rivals for quite some time. Vince McMahon: and there is certainly no love lost between The Gunslingers and The Red Scare either. It looks like the Sarge is okay, but you know he will be looking for some payback real soon! Lord Alfred Hayes: Oh, he most certainly will. Vince McMahon: Alright Ladies and Gentleman, we are going to take one last break, and then we understand that World Wrestling Federation President Jack Tunney has arrived and will be meeting with "Superstar" Billy Graham. We'll be right back. -Commercial Break- We return from break to see the elevated platform away from the ring where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is standing with a microphone in his hands. "Mean" Gene: Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome the first of my two guests, World Wrestling Federation President, Jack Tunney! Tunney comes out dressed in his normal black suit and tie to a smattering of boo's from the crowd. He shakes hands with Okerlund and then stands stoically beside him. "Mean" Gene: and now please welcome my second guest, the man who will challenge Bob Backlund for the World Wrestling Federation Championship at Wrestlemania, "Superstar" Billy Graham!! The Superstar comes from the back, but instead of his normal attire he is wearing blue jeans, a Golds Gym t-shirt, and a brown leather jacket. He slaps hands with several fans, but is definitely not his normal flamboyant self. When he reaches the stage he shakes hands with both Okerlund and Tunney. "Mean" Gene: All right. "Superstar" Billy Graham, last week you asked for a face to face meeting with World Wrestling Federation President Jack Tunney, and here he is. So "Superstar" the stage is all yours. "Superstar" Billy Graham: Thank You Gene. But tonight, I'm not out here as the man of the hour, the man with the power, too sweet to be sour, the former WWF Heavyweight Champion of the World, "Superstar" Billy Graham! No, tonight I am out here as Billy Graham, the man who is a little older, and a little wiser, and who has a whole lot on his mind. Jack Tunney, I asked you to come here tonight, because I have to ask you for a favor. I have to ask you to do something that Billy Graham "The Superstar" of old would probably want to kick his own butt for, but Billy Graham the man, feel like has has to do. You see, back at the Saturday Night's Main Event, I had Bobby Backlund right where I wanted him. I had him beat, and he knew it, so he hit me low and got himself disqualified to save the title. After that, I was fired up and when the WWF granted me another shot at Backlund in the main event of Wrestlemania, I gotta tell ya, I felt like I was standing on top of the world. But then a couple weeks ago, Bobby Backlund came out here and did something so disgusting, so appalling, that everything changed. I spent a whole lot of years in this business being a mean motor scooter, and I did a lot of bad things to a lot of people. But there are just some lines you don't cross, and you don't attack a man's family. Now I know David Sammartino was a willing participant in that ring, but beating a man in the ring, and what Bobby Backlund did, are two totally different things. A lot of you people may not know this, but Billy Graham has a little boy at home. He's only about ten years old, but every day he tells me that one day he wants to be the Heavyweight Champion of the World like his daddy was, and I have to tell you that there is no greater feeling in the whole world. So to even think about someone doing to my son, what Bob Backlund did to Bruno's son, I gotta tell you brother, it makes my blood boil. So Jack Tunney, and before you ask, you better believe I've thought long and hard about this. I am asking you to allow a chance for a man to get some justice. I am asking you to allow a wrong to be righted. I am asking you....to allow "Superstar" Billy Graham to step aside... and give his Wrestlemania World Title match against Bob Backlund.... to Bruno Sammartino! The crowd goes nuts as "Mean" Gene puts on a look of pure shock, and Billy Graham nods his head and pumps his fist at the crowd reaction. Jack Tunney appears to be contemplating the decision when Okerlund regains his composure and brings the microphone around to him. Jack Tunney: Billy....if you want it..... Graham nods his head at Tunney Jack Tunney: and these fans want it... The roof nearly comes off the Allentown Agricultural Hall as they erupt at Tunney's words. Jack Tunney: Then at Wrestlemania, Bob Backlund will now defend the WWF World Heavyweight Championship against BRUNO SAMMARTINO! Another huge eruption as Graham raises his fist to the crowd and they are going wild. Vince McMahon: OH YEAH!!! Lord Alfred Hayes: My Word! Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund in the Main Event of Wrestlemania! Can you imagine! Vince McMahon: We don't have to imagine Alfred!! It's happening!! Ladies and Gentleman, that's it for Superstars this week, join us next week when we will see The Fantastics, the World Wrestling Federation return of "The Black Superman" Tony Atlas and much, much....wait.....I'm being told...you're kidding..... Lord Alfred Hayes: What is it? Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, the challenge from last week has been accepted. Right here next week we will see Pedro Morales go one on one with the WWF Champion, Bob Backlund!! You Can't Miss This!! SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!!! Wahoos Leg
Love the format of your show, it's always an easy read The Gentleman's Club is fast becoming a highlight
rainmakerrtv
Can't wait to see what the Von Erichs do in the WWF. Love mixing their debut with the Pizza Inn commercial The Gentleman's Club is amazing as always. The escalation of Sarge vs. Sheikh 85 is riveting stuff. spaldoni
YES!!!!!! The dream match is happening at WrestleMania!!!!!! Backlund vs. Bruno! What a story. This is going to be epic! Thank you Billy Graham. I cant wait! The Von Erich's have arrived! After spending some time working single's in the territories, Kevin and Kerry are reunited and ready to take the WWF by storm. I'm really liking the bantering between DJ and Mr. Magnificent. They will settle things at WrestleMania. What a great place to showcase these two future stars. It's once again time for the Gentleman's Club. I love this segment! Tonight the entire Heenan family is showcased. Fuller and Heenan were priceless. Nice job hyping all of their Mania matches. This is a great way to further storylines. Fuller better hope the Candyman wasn't listening. The Gentleman's Club will be a highlight every week. Gunslinger's pick up another win as does the Red Scare. Both teams are quickly gaining momentum. Sunshine has her Islanders ready for the Fantastics. Patera vows to take down the Hammer at Mania and remain IC champ. Ok Mania just got bigger as Santana and Dr. D will go at it in a street fight! This match is going to ROCK! Shultz gives one heck of a promo and promises Tito a job mowing his lawn. He better be careful. A fired up Tito is not one to mess with. Ariba! Slaughter almost gets a beating of his life. Luckily the Gunslingers made the save. I have a feeling WrestleMania is going to get even bigger. Cant wait for the return of Tony Atlas! Backlund vs. Pedro next week! After hearing Graham's announcement I'm sure Backlund is going to go nuts. Poor Pedro. Once again awesome job! WrestleMania, July 4th! I'll be there! kevinmcfl
Awesome TV show. I had a feeling we were going to see Backlund and Bruno at Wrestlemania but the way you got us there was great. Very creative. The VonErichs add some real depth to an already crowded tag divison. Like Sunshine with the Islanders. Gives her a legit role as they need a outhpiece. The Gentleman's Club is becoming a favorite of mine. Fuller on the plantation would be getting some serious heat from the NY crowd. Slaughter and the Gunslingers going against the foreign invasion could be a wild ride. Pedro and Backlund will be a great tv bout. Atlas in the WWF will be fun. I hope Vince gives him a real shot. Thanks for another great show. Really looking forward to Wrestlemania.
GeneJackson95
Wow...I hate to skip to the end but you've done a great job building the match with Backlund/Sammartino...with Graham involved just very well executed and it's very fitting to see two of the greatest WWF champions square at the historic first Wrestlemania! The Von Erichs have arrived! I can't wait to see them square off against the Bulldogs although the Islanders and the Red Scare will make for some great tag matches as well! The Gentleman's Club continues to be one of my favorite things in the game! Fidel adds a really fun dimension to this as well and it's good to know if things don't work out for the Candyman in the WWF, Fuller has a backup plan for him! As with most everyone on your roster you have David Schultz down perfect....I could hear every word of this in his voice and can't wait for his Streetfight with Tito at WRASSLEmania!!
I'm Vince McMahon and joining me at ringside is His Lordship, Lord Alfred Hayes. Ladies and Gentleman, we are just three weeks away from the biggest extravaganza in the history of professional wrestling, WRESTLEMANIA!! and as we heard last week "Superstar" Billy Graham has stepped aside so that our broadcast partner here on Superstars, Bruno Sammartino can look for some retribution against the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion, Bob Backlund. Lord Alfred Hayes: Backlund's mental state has become increasingly more erratic over the past several months, and the attack on Bruno's son David was violent and disturbing. We will have Bob Backlund here today to accept the challenge of Pedro Morales in a non-title contest. You have to wonder how Backlund has reacted to the news of Sammartino being his opponent, and how he will be inside that ring today. Vince McMahon: You never know exactly what you are going to get when it comes to Bob Backlund. The match between Backlund and Morales will be out featured contest here today. We will also see Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers, The Fantastics in action! "The Black Superman" Tony Atlas will make his return to the World Wrestling Federation, and we have several matches on stand-by should the Backlund/Morales match not go to it's allotted time limit. Let's head down to the ring and "The Fink!" _______________________________________________________________ -Match 1- "The Black Superman" Tony Atlas beat Tom Stone in 3:41 with a Military Press Slam _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: OH MY!! Look at the strength of Tony Atlas!! Lord Alfred Hayes: He tossed Stone around like he weighed virtually nothing at all. With power like that, everyone had best be on alert for Tony Atlas. Vince McMahon: You can say that again Alfred! We'll be right back with The Fantastics!! PROMOTIONAL CONSIDERATION PAID FOR BY THE FOLLOWING: A lone warrior searching for his destiny. A tribe of children searching for a hero. In a world where they must battle to survive, they face a woman determined to rule. Hold on for Mad Max in his greatest adventure.....Mel Gibson.......MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME.....July 10th -Commercial Break- _______________________________________________________________ During the match we got a picture in picture interview with The Fantastics standing in front of a WWF backdrop. Tommy Rogers: Sunshine, we heard you out here talking for them Islanders, saying they beat us up because they were mad we got shots at the belts. Maybe we got them shots because we're a better team. Bobby Fulton: Islanders! Them Bulldogs never could beat us fair and square, and you boys had to jump us from behind to take us down. So come Wrestlemania we are going to boogie all over your butts, then we are gonna go back after them belts and take what belongs to us! -Match 2- The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton/Tommy Rogers) over The Bounty Hunters (1/2) in 5:19 when Fulton pinned 2 after the Rocket Launcher _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: All Right! The Fantastics pick up the win! Tell us about it Alfred! Lord Alfred Hayes: Tommy Rogers sends the Bounty Hunter into the ropes and catches him with a beautiful dropkick that sends him down hard to the canvas. Rogers then tags in Fulton who ascends to the top rope, then Rogers helps to propel him across the ring where Fulton crashes on top of the masked man for the one, two, three. Vince McMahon: A big win for The Fantastics, and before we get to our featured contest, let's head over to "Mean" Gene and Update! With the latest from the World Wrestling Federation, this is Update with: "Mean" Gene: Hello Ladies and Gentleman, and welcome to Update! We are just weeks away from the biggest show in World Wrestling Federation history. Saturday Night, July the 4th, live from Madison Square Garden and airing on Closed Circuit Television all across the United States of America, it's Wrestlemania! As we all heard last week, the main event has changed. Originally "Superstar" Billy Graham was set to challenge Bob Backlund for the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Title. But last week here on Superstars of Wrestling, Billy Graham relinquished that opportunity so that the Living Legend Bruno Sammartino could look for a little revenge against the man who attacked his son. So it is set, we will see Bob Backlund defend the WWF Title against Bruno Sammartino in the Main Event of Wrestlemania! I tried all week to get an interview with Bruno Sammartino, but he has gone into seclusion. I've been told by those close to him that he is spending time with his family, and since the announcement has been made that he has begun an intense workout regimen. We hope to speak with him in the near future. Also just added to Wrestlemania will be the battle of the giants! As the masked monster known only as The Giant Machine will do battle with this man.... Andre the Giant! We cut to Andre standing in front of a WWF backdrop. Andre the Giant: Giant Machine! I don't know who you are behind that mask, and I don't care! At Wrestlemania, I will show you and all of these people who the real giant is here in the WWF! "Mean" Gene: When that one is all over, they may need a dump truck to haul the loser out of the ring! Also at Wrestlemania we will see Ken Patera defend the World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship against "The Hammer" Greg Valentine with his manager Bobby Heenan. Haku and Tama, The Islanders with their new manager Sunshine will be in tag team action against Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers, The Fantastics! In another battle of the big man, "The Candyman" Ray Candy will take on Heenan Family member, King Kong Bundy! In a Street Fight, Tito Santana will go one on one with "Dr. D" David Schultz! and DJ Peterson will step in the ring with "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly, who is standing by with his manager Jimmy Hart! We cut to Kelly and Jimmy Hart standing in front of a WWF backdrop. Jimmy Hart: "Magnificent" Kevin Kelly is the best all around athlete in the World Wrestling Federation today baby! Just look at him! He's got the body of a Greek god! He can wrestle, and when he gets his hands on you DJ Peterson, he is gonna rip you to pieces!! Kevin Kelly: DJ Peterson! You can talk all you want about sticking my head where the sun don't shine, but when I lock these arms around your neck, all the muscles in the world won't make up for the lack of oxygen going to your tiny little brain. It'll be nighty night for DJ, and another win for The Magnificent One! Jimmy Hart: That's Right Baby! HA! HA! HA! "Mean" Gene: With seven huge matches already signed, Wrestlemania is shaping up to be the biggest show of the year. But my sources tell me that there are several more just waiting for pen to be put to paper. Hopefully we'll have more to announce for you next week. Until then, for Update, I'm Gene Okerlund. -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Welcome back to Superstars of Wrestling! It's time now for our featured contest which will see World Wrestling Federation Champion Bob Backlund take on Pedro Morales in a non title match. Lord Alfred Hayes: Backlund has been a dominant force although he has become increasingly unstable. Morales meanwhile has looked quite crisp in the ring since his recent return to the WWF, and his fiery temper can certainly be a match for Backlund's crazy! Vince McMahon: Pedro asked for this match after Backlund's recent actions, and it was granted. As I stated before, the WWF Championship is not on the line. The match will have a time limit of thirty minutes, and we do have several matches on stand by should we need them. _______________________________________________________________ -Match 3- As introductions were given for the match, Pedro Morales looked cool, calm, and collected as he stood in his corner. When his name was called, he raised his arms and looked determined. Backlund meanwhile paced back and forth and had a crazed look in his eyes. When the referee came to take the championship belt from him, he nearly had to tear it from Backlund's grip. When the bell rang, both men met in the center of the ring and Backlund immediately kicked Morales in the groin drawing the immediate disqualification. With a roar, Backlund turned and leveled the referee with a clothesline, then stormed over and reached out of the ring to retrieve the WWF Title from the timekeepers table. Backlund paced around the ring until Morales gingerly got to his feet, and then Backlund charged and smashed Morales in the face with the belt. Pedro crashed to the mat, and Backlund stared at his fallen opponent with a lunatic smile on his face. After several long moments, Backlund dropped the belt and grabbed the fallen Morales by the head and arm, yanking him back to his feet. Backlund held him in a standing position long enough for everyone to see the blood running down the face of the former Triple Crown Champion where the belt had torn the flesh of his face open, and then locked him in the Cross Face Chicken Wing. Backlund hooked his legs around the torso of Morales and dropped to the mat, and began repeatedly jerking and wrenching the neck and arm of Morales with as much force as he could muster. The whole time screaming "THIS WILL BE YOU BRUNO!!" over and over again. Finally a herd of referees and officials hit the ring and it still took them more than a minute to pry Backlund off of Morales, and when they did, he acted like he would attack them as well, but instead picked up the WWF Title and rolled out of the ring. From the floor he surveyed the carnage in the ring with a giant smile plastered on his face, his eyes opened wide, and his head slowly nodding. Pedro Morales defeated Bob Backlund by Disqualification in 0:09 _______________________________________________________________ -Commercial Break- As Superstars returns from commercial, Pedro Morales has a bandage wrapped around his head and has been put in a neck brace. He is being moved from the ring and onto a stretcher. Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, EMT's are continuing to work on Pedro Morales. We are going to take another break and will return momentarily. -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Uhh, welcomes back everyone to Superstars of Wrestling. Pedro Morales has been taken to an ambulance and is en route to a local medical facility. We don't know the extent of the injuries he suffered, but we will do our best to get that information to you when we have it. Lord Alfred Hayes: Bob Backlund has been unhinged previously, but what we saw today appeared to be him taking pure joy in injuring an opponent. This is certainly not the man we have known over the years. Vince McMahon: No, it certainly isn't. We are going to attempt to move on now. We have a tag team match, and hopefully we can lighten the mood a bit with the Scufflin' Hillbillies. _______________________________________________________________ -Match 4- The Scufflin' Hillbillies (Hillbilly Jim/Cousin Luke) over Barry Hardy/Brian Costello in 4:08 when Hillbilly Jim pinned Hardy after a Big Boot _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: ALL RIGHT! That's more like it! The Scufflin' Hillbillies pick up a win, and now we are having a little square danc...WHAT THE!! As Hillbilly Jim and Cousin Luke are square dancing in the ring, two men wearing black singlets and black masks with gold stars on them hit the ring and jump the Hillbillies from behind. Each man is clubbed in the back of the head with a forearm strike, and then the two men quickly focus on Hillbilly Jim. One of them hitting him with a bicycle kick to the chest that sends him into the ropes, and the other following it with a big clothesline that sends Jim over the top and to the floor. They then focus on the smaller Luke, each clubbing him with several blows, before whipping him hard across the ring into the turnbuckle. The two men follow him in, hoist him onto the top turnbuckle, and then both climb up and join him. What follows is spectacular, as they hit a Double Superplex and Cousin Luke is sent half way across the ring. The two masked men then roll out of the ring and head back away from ringside. Vince McMahon: WHO WERE THOSE MEN!! Lord Alfred Hayes: I don't have any idea, but that Double Superplex may be the most devastating move I have seen in all my years in wrestling. Vince McMahon: We need to get some help out here for the Scufflin' Hillbillies!! -Commercial Break- Vince McMahon: Ladies and Gentleman, welcome back to what is turning out to be a very interesting week on Superstars of Wrestling. Earlier we saw both Tony Atlas and The Fantastics pick up some nice wins. But since then we've seen Bob Backlund get himself intentionally disqualified and then brutalize Pedro Morales who has been taken to a local medical facility to be evaluated for his injuries. Then we just saw The Scufflin' Hillbillies pick up a win, only to be assaulted by two unknown men in masks. We are being told that Cousin Luke was a little shaken up, but should be okay, and that Hillbilly Jim is just fighting mad! Lord Alfred Hayes: Well since we don't have the slightest clue who attacked them, he'll have to hold onto that anger until he knows who to fight! Vince McMahon: Indeed he will Alfred. Okay Ladies and Gentleman, up next we have a debut here in the World Wrestling Federation. We don't know much about this man, other than that he is from Japan, and apparently he is being managed by one Jimmy Hart. So let's go to the ring for Kazaharu. _______________________________________________________________ A haunting, instrumental, Oriental sounding music filled the arena, and Jimmy Hart came from behind the curtain first with a big smile on his face. Following him out was a man wearing black karate style pants with white kanji markings down both legs, a traditional black gi with a red circle on the back with the name Kazaharu printed in the middle, and black tabi boots. An ornate mask of an Oni with a red face, black horns, and white hair covered his head as he walked to the ring. Once he entered, Hart helped him remove the mask to reveal long black hair and a face covered with the traditional red, white, and black kabuki style face paint. He also removed the gi, revealing that his fingers, hands, wrist, and forearms were all taped. -Match 5- Kazaharu w/Jimmy Hart defeated "Quickdraw" Rick McGraw in 2:58 with the Japanese Sleeper _______________________________________________________________ Vince McMahon: My goodness, Kazaharu puts away "Quickdraw" McGraw with ease. Walk us through it Alfred. Lord Alfred Hayes: Early in the match we saw this Kazaharu digging his fingers into the muscles of McGraw's shoulder. Then just before applying the hold that ended the match he hit a beautiful thrust kick that landed in the area of the neck and shoulder. But this maneuver he used, this Japanese Sleeper, it controls both the neck and the arm and cuts off the blood supply to the brain much faster than a regular sleeper hold. A very dangerous move, and a very dangerous man. Vince McMahon: Jimmy Hart has to be very happy with this acquisition. Lord Alfred Hayes: Most assuredly! Vince McMahon: Alright Ladies and Gentleman, we will be right back with "Mean" Gene Okerlund and a very special interview. Don't go anywhere!! -Commercial Break- We return from break to see the elevated platform away from the ring where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is standing with a microphone in his hands. "Mean" Gene: All right Ladies and Gentleman, please join me in welcoming my very special guests Scott Casey and Johnny Mantell, The Gunslingers and Sgt. Slaughter! The crowd erupts as the trio of fan favorites emerges from the locker room and heads to the stage. The Gunslingers slapping hands the whole way, and Slaughter saluting and shaking hands. "Mean" Gene: Gentleman, last week here on Superstars of Wrestling the three of you came together when The Iron Sheik and The Red Scare attempted a three on one assault of you Sgt. Slaughter. You all asked to come out here and speak this week, so the stage is all yours. Johnny Mantell: You know "Mean" Gene, Scott and I've been tussling with these two Russians for a little while now and ain't nothing been settled. Back at Saturday Night's Main Event we had them beat, so they cheated and run away like the couple of red commie cowards they are. Scott Casey: That's right Johnny. That night they cracked me in the head with Blassie's cane, and ever since they've been running the whooping that the Gunslinger owe them. Then last week we saw them out here with the Sheik trying to gang up on a Real American Hero like the Sarge here, and we said Un Uh! No way boys, that ain't happening on our watch. Sgt. Slaughter: Iron Sheik! Volkoff! Zukhov! You bunch of maggots! This is the United States of America. The three of you and that turncoat manager of yours may think you can do as you please, but last week you learned a lesson. You learned that when you attack one American, you are attacking all Americans! That's why these men, The Gunslingers came to my aid. Because they don't like hearing that crap you come out here spewing any more than I do! So I want you pukes to listen, and I want you to listen good. The three of us are laying down a challenge to the three of you. At Wrestlemania, we are challenging you to a match. But not just any match, Oh No. We are challenging you to a Coward Waves the Flag Match! What that means is that Sheik you bring your Iranian flag, and Red Scare you bring your Russian flag, and if one of you three pins one of us, whoever you pin will stand in the center of the ring and wave the flag of the man who pinned us. But you had better believe that the three of us will be carrying the Stars and Stripes, the Red, White, and Blue, Old Glory Herself into that ring, and when one of us pins one of you, you WILL stand in the center of the ring and you WILL wave the flag of the United States of America while we stand and salute her. The crowd is going crazy at this prospect. "Mean" Gene: There you have it Ladies and Gentleman, the challenge has been laid out. Sgt. Slaughter and The Gunslingers against The Iron Sheik and The Red Scare in a Coward Waves the Flag Match at Wrestlemania! Superstars of Wrestling goes off the air as The Gunslingers drop off the stage and start high fiving the fans and Slaughter smirks at Okerlund and tells him he is dismissed. spaldoni
Things are really falling into place as WrestleMania approaches! Tony Atlas kicks things off with a win. I hope Atlas gets a spot at Mania. Mad Max is coming back to the theaters! Fantastics look strong and are ready for the Islanders. Their match at Mania might steal the show. Giant Machine has a big task ahead at Mania. Andre once again must prove he's the only true giant in the WWF. LOL, Hart and Mr. Magnificent have some words for DJ. Man I'm liking this program. WOW! I shouldn't be surprised but I think Backlund is at the point of no return. Morales takes a brutal beating and another victim is taken out on a stretcher. Can Bruno stop the madness? We'll find out at Mania. Just when you think things lighten up, the Hillbillies get assaulted by a menacing mysterious team. Who are these guys?!?! Jimmy Hart's new acquisition Kazahara makes a dominating debut. This was impressive. The challenge has been made! Love the stipulation! This will be a classic American heroes vs. Evil Foreigners heat filled match. WrestleMania is stacked! And there's even more to come. I cant wait.
