Autistic Dragon
NWA Live @ Spartan Sports Center in Tampa FL 3/19/87 "Mr Excitement" Johnny Ace (subbing for Ranger Ross) defeats a local talent with the "Ace Crusher" Brickhouse Brown defeats "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers with a swinging neckbreacker. "Super Rookie" Hiroshi Hase defeats Zodiac by DQ when Angel of Death & Jason the Terrible storm the ring & attack Hase. After a brief beatdown Good & Plenty make the save leading to.... The Celestial Trinity (Angel of Death & Jason the Terrible) w/Zodiac defeat Good & Plenty (Ray Candy Sweet & Brown Sugar) a distraction by Zodiac allows Jason to hit a hockey mask assisted headbutt to the back of Brown's head. Road Kill Tour match Stan "The Lariat" Hansen defeats "The Polynesian Prince" Siva Afi with the Lariat. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes "Hacksaw" & Jim Duggan defeat The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillion. An odd finish as Ric Flair came down & seemed poised to interject -with Dillon even distracting the ref- before deciding against it to the delight of the Tampa fans! This lead to a back and forth between Flair & Arn before Arn turned around into a football tackle from Duggan for the win! After the bell Flair entered the ring to check on Arn but was intercepted by a irate Ole. A shouting match insued and the two Horsemen seemed about to come to blows when Dillon & a recovered Arn intervened. While the group left together, Flair noticeably lagged behind taking the time to interact with fans on his way.

spaldoni
Enjoying Flair's slow burn to babyface story. Props to you for taking your time with it and really building it up. Trinity vs. Good & Plenty, talk about good vs. evil. This week it's Siva Afi who's Hansen's latest victim. Dusty and Duggan are a perfect America's Team. Adonis puts Adias away with the Goodnight Irene. Jaggers better get checked out by a Doctor after that finish. Man, that was brutal. Hase is putting that Scorpion Death Lock to good use. Savage attacks Adonis as things get hotter and hotter. Thanks to Miss Linda, Yamada gets a huge win over Street. YES! Ritter and Duggan go at it in a taped fist match! Ritter wins this one and I hope we get another. NWA continues to deliver solid house shows. Great job!
Autistic Dragon
From the Armory in Gastonia NC it's.... NWA Power Hour! Previously recorded/Airing on 3/24/87 On Commentary:Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone Ring Announcer: David Crockett (The opening video slams on screen showing quick clips of the top stars set to "Rock Warrior" by The Rods. We close on a shot of NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tully Blanchard before cutting to Caudle & Schiavone at ringside. They welcome us to the show and hype the Crockett Cup which Caudle reminds us is a little over 2 weeks away. Schiavone also reminds us that later this broadcast, we'll hear who the NWA championship commettie have selected to challenge Tully Blanchard for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on night 2 which will air live on Pay-Per-View before sending it to the ring for the opening match) Match #1 Big Daddy Ritter w/Slick defeats "Stray Cat" Brodie Chase with a powerslam. Slick joins Commentary and says he's already figured out how to spend the Million Dollars after his boy's win the Crockett Cup. When Caudle asks if he means he's figured out how to spend his share of the prize money, Slick pauses briefly before confirming that is indeed what he meant. Commercial-Bob Caudle runs down the NWA house shows for the coming week. Match #2 Spartanburg Vice (Jerry Bryant & Lou Winston) defeat Cyril Feggis & Sterling Archer with the "Spartanburg Special" on Feggis. BC: Wrestling fans, it's my pleasure to have the President of the National Wrestling Alliance, Mr Jim Crockett Jr to announce the challenger for the NWA World Heavyweight Title at night 2 of the Crockett Cup. JC: Thank you Bob. Before I get to the announcement I want to take the opportunity to thank my fellow promotors for agreeing to come together to honor my father who I know would be thrilled beyond words to see the collection of talent lined up for this tournament. BC: I'm sure he would be. But seeing as you mentioned your fellow promotors, I feel I'd be remiss not to ask you about the addition of Bill Watts & the UWF entering the Crockett Cup. JC: I thought you might Bob. The fact is that the end of Mr Watts' tenure as NWA President has been spoken of in detail by myself, Mr Watts & even Les Thorton. I'll say only that Mr Watts & I are two businessmen who agreed to a business arrangement that we expect to be beneficial to both of us. BC: Fair enough sir. Now for the real reason you're here, what everyone wants to know. Who will challenge Tully Blanchard for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on night 2 of the Crockett Cup? JC: Well Bob, as you can imagine this was a very difficult decision. The championship commettie & myself discussed several viable contenders before coming to the man we agreed to be most deserving. And so it is my privilege to announce that on April 10th, live on Pay-Per-View from the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia South Carolina, Tully Blanchard will defend the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against....."The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes! *Monster pop* Match#3 Giant Haystacks defeats The Intern with a 600 pound legdrop. Commercial+Promo for the Crockett Cup (We see a pre-recorded promo from Adrain Adonis. He says he doesn't blame Savage for being so emotional lately as it must be hard to see someone be so much more "macho" then he could ever be. As for wether he's after the United States Title or Elizabeth? He says why should he choose when he can have both? After all, when he defeats Savage for the title, obviously "Lizzy" will see what's she's been missing out on & will "leap at the chance to get with a real man". He challenges Savage to a match on night 2 of the Crockett Cup so he can claim BOTH his prizes on the biggest stage the NWA has ever had) Match #4 "Super Rookie" Hiroshi Hase defeats Fire with the "Scorpion Death Lock" Commercial+Promo for the Crockett Cup Main event The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillion defeat Good Plenty (Ray Candy & Sweet Brown Sugar) when Arn pins SBS with a spinebuster. Dillon joined commentary on alternated between boasting that the Andersons were destined to win the Crockett Cup, and ranting about how Dusty Rhodes didn't deserve a world title shot. When Schiavone tried to ask about the seeming tension regarding Ric Flair, Dillon immediately shut the line of questioning down.

spaldoni
LOL, nothing gets by Bob Caudle as he puts Slick on the spot. Spartanburg Vice continues to look good on TV. WOW! As if the tag tournament wasn't a big enough draw, we're also going to get Tully vs. Dusty! Awesome! I'm liking Haystacks monster push. Super Rookie is gaining a ton of experience. Solid main event as the Andersons put down Good & Plenty. JJ shuts things down quick meaning he's fully aware of the Flair/Tully tension. Worldwide, WHOA! Ritter and Parsons do a serious number on Duggan. Big time heat! Damn! Look at those first round match ups! The game's best teams going at it. Doesn't get any better. Looks like Watts and Crockett will settle things with a Road Warriors/MVC match. That might be the hardest hitting match of the year. It's official! Savage vs. Adonis! I loved the build up. Den Scorpio
The Crockett Cup! Bring it! What better town that the ATL to have the surprise replacement for Duggan to show... MANNY FERNANDEZ!! Man, he's gonna kick ass & take names now that he's here. AND he's motivated. The Raging Bull might make this his yard. Talk about a stacked roster. From town to town, big night after big night with a variety of great match-ups all along the middle and tops of the cards. Great balance & it all feels very "in the moment". Big Dust puttin' it down about Tully & the Title. "More crooked than a sidewinder" sounds like it came right out of his mouth in the room I'm sitting in. And he promised to win the Title. I'm ready for more.

Scarlet-Left
I'm also very excited for the Crockett Cup! Tully Blanchard versus Dutch Mantel is a great main event! spaldoni
I'm with the others, can't wait for the Crockett Cup! I think it's awesome that all the promotions will be represented. I can't imagine what Crockett's bombshell announcement will be. Manny Fernandez comes in with a bang! I really enjoyed writing for him and can't wait to see what he does in the NWA. Deaton is a perfect fit with Bass and Bart. 6 man champs Street, Dundee and Haystacks better keep their eyes on them. Stud Stable keeps things heated with the Jayhawks. Always liked these show ending brawls. Dusty cuts another classic Dream promo. Him and Tully are going to tear the house down. Fleming remains TV champ but I think MegaMan has earned himself a rematch. I'll say it again. Great build to the Cup. The tag team tournament is going to be historic for this game. And as bonuses we get Dusty vs. Tully and Savage vs. Adonis. EPIC!
Autistic Dragon
From the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.... Airing Live on WTBS channel 17, The National Wrestling Alliance proudly presents the... (Sweeping shot of the SOLD OUT arena before cutting to Gordon Solie at ringside in a nicely tailored suit) GS: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to night 1 of the Jim Crockett Sr Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament. I am your host for the evening Gordon Solie, Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone are in Columbia preparing for night 2. We have an incredible night of tag team wrestling in store for you tonight. As well as the president of the NWA, Mr Jim Crockett Jr will be here with an announcement regarding the future of the company. But before all that, let's go to the ring where the lovely & talented Ms Anita Baker will start the evening with her rendition of "America the Beautiful" All matches have a 20 minute time limit. Match #1 PCW Golden State Tag Team Champions Badd Company (Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond)(PCW) w/Gary Hart vs The New Breed (Chris Champion & Sean Royal)(WCPW) A very fast paced match with great teamwork on both sides. Ultimately the deciding factor is the presence of Gary Hart who trips Royal sending him stumbling into a cartwheel kick from Tanaka for the 1-2-3. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: Badd Company! Match #2 The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson)(UWF) vs NWA United States Tag Team Champions Brutha's in Arms (Shaska Whatley & Tiger Conway Jr) w/Slick The Brutha's aggression & willingness to break the rules create quite the problems for RnR as does the antics of Slick who interjects whenever he sees his clients losing the advantage. However the seamless teamwork of the men from the Volunteer State proves to much & Conway finally falls to the world famous double dropkick. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals:The Rock n Roll Express! Match #3 The Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts)(UWF) vs AWA National Tag Team Champions Larry Zybysko & Al PerezAn interesting heel vs heel match rather early in the tournament. It takes a few minutes for this one to get started as Zybysko keeps getting into arguments with the ringside fans giving Hayes plenty of time to strut about the ring. When it does get started it becomes a game of the two teams trying to out-cheat the other creating something of a comedy match. The end see Hayes & Perez exchanging pin attempts, Perez tries for a schoolboy with his feet on the ropes but gets caught. He goes to argue with the ref allowing Hayes to score a schoolboy with a handful of tights for the win. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: The Freebirds! Match #4 The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon (NWA) vs The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood)(NWA) The only match of the night featuring two teams from the same company. A exciting contrast of style as the Youngblood's fast pace strike heavy offense collides with the Anderson's methodical, scientific approach. The result is a seesaw affair that ends abruptly when a distraction from Dillon allows Arn to plant Mark with a spinebuster to advance. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals:The Minnesota Wrecking Crew! (During the intermission, Jim Crockett Jr comes down to ringside where he joins Solie. He says that 1987 was always going to be a pivotal year for the NWA even before the debacle which caused it to proceed as a single promotion. Says while this wasn't where he thought the NWA would be this time last year he's immensely proud of how the year's started. Says that while he's eternally grateful for Ted Turner's patience while they sorted everything out, the truth of the matter is that the relationship between the two companies has gone as far as it can. And so he reveals that this will be the LAST TIME the NWA will be seen on WTBS! *collective gasp from crowd* Instead next week on Saturday April 16th the NWA will debut its new TWO HOUR show called "World Championship Wrestling" at 8pm on the USA Network! In conclusion he assures Solie he won't be left out because starting on the 17th, Worldwide will be airing Sunday morning at 11am on USA) Match #5 NWA World Six Man Tag Team Champions "Superstar" Bill Dundee & "Exotic" Adrain Street w/Ms Linda vs The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags)(WCPW) Another contrast of styles as the flamboyant duo of Dundee & Street face-off with the street fighters Knobbs & Sags. It becomes apparent that the experience & wrestling knowledge of the Six Man Champs is too much of a hurtle for the pair from 'Nastyville". To their credit, the Nasties go down fighting & the Commonwealth duo are covered with bruises by the stiff shots from the former WCPW tag champs. But go down they eventually do, namely when Sags gets trapped in a crossface chickenwing by Street & choses to pass out rather than tap. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: Bill Dundee & Adrian Street! Match #6 AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami vs The Samoan Headhunters (Samu & Fatu)(WWF) w/Mr Fuji The Samoan prowl ringside as the Japanese duo approach the ring, seemingly looking for a excuse to take a bit out of some poor soul in the front row. Fuji finally herds them into the ring in time to jump the opposition as they're removing their kimonos. What follows is by far the most physical match yet. The story of the match is the AWA champs weathering the animalistic assault of the Headhunters long enough to force the Samoans into something vaguely resembling a wrestling match. Eventually a battered Fujinami avoids a superkick from Samu & hits a Dragon suplex that barely keeps the savage down for 3. A curious scene after the match where the Samoans seemed ready to continue the fight but Fuji called them off before bowing his head to his countrymen. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami! Match #7 PCW Pacific Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w/Jim Cornette vs The Southern Boys (Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong)(NWA) (As David Crockett is about to announce the MXE, Cornette snatches the mic. "Would you South Carolina sweat-hogs like to do me a favor huh? I want you to keep all this slack jawed, cross-eyed heffers you call women in their seats while I introduce the sexiest, best looking Tag Team in professional wrestling, "Beautiful" Bobby & "Sweet" Stan, The Midnight Express!) After that performance, the South Carolina crowd was eager to see Cornette's boys pay for their manager's sins. What followed was a classic southern tag team match with the advantage swinging back-and-forth several times. The Southern Boys seemed to have it when a brawl broke out between all 4 men allowing Cornette to slip his tennis racket to Lane which he struck Armstrong with while the ref was trying to get Eaton & Smothers out of the ring. He turned around just in time to see Lane make the cover. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: The Midnight Express! Main Event NWA World Tag Team Champions The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/"Precious" Paul Ellering vs UWF World Tag Team Champions The Miracle Violence Connection (Steve Williams & Terry Gordy) Look, you guys know what happens here. Four of the biggest, baddest men in the sport beat the absolute hell out of each other. The ring shakes as they pound each other with slams, suplexs & strikes that would destroy lesser men & the crowd loves every second of it. Right up until the the announcer calls the end of the time limit approaching. He counts down the final 10 seconds as the four men are all in the ring, still throwing bombs. The time limit expires. The match is a draw. Both teams are eliminated.

The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson)(UWF) vs PCW Golden State Tag Team Champions Badd Company (Pat Tanaka Paul Diamond) w/Gary Hart An exciting fast paced match that served as something of a coming out party for those unfamiliar with Badd Company's work on the west coast. The end sees Hart get up on the apron and Diamond attempt to swing Morton into him but Morton reverses the whip sending Diamond colliding with his own manager! Hart goes flying of the apron while Diamond staggers backwards into a O'Connor roll for the 1-2-3. Winners advancing to the semifinals: The Rock n Roll Express! The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w JJ Dillon (NWA) vs The Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts)(UWF) In what was either an appreciation of the Freebirds comedic display the previous night or a testament to just how hated the Four Horsemen are, The Freebirds are given a rather strong face reaction which they couldn't resist playing to. It didn't stop them from fighting fire with fire whenever the Andersons tried to take a shortcut. The result was a competitive but rough match that the southern crowd loved. As he has so many times in the past, Dillon proved the deciding factor as he lowbriged Hayes during a pier-sixer leaving Roberts to fall victim to a double gordbuster. Winners & advancing to the semifinals: The Minnesota Wrecking Crew! AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami vs NWA World Six Man Tag Team Champions "Superstar" Bill Dundee & "Exotic" Adrain Street w/Ms Linda The Japanese duo didn't quite seem to know what to make of Street at first but after the first few exchanges in which he employed his classic British wrestling, they appeared to gain some respect for him. There was plenty more mat wrestling to come, supplemented by some stiff strikes & throws from the AWA champs as well as some Memphis style brawling courtesy of Dundee. The end sees the Superstar go for "Bombs Away" on Jumbo who ducks under than flattened Dundee with a Lariat when he got up. Winners advancing to the semifinals:AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami! NWA United States Title Match "Macho Man" Randy Savage(c) w/Ms Elizabeth vs "Adorable" Adrian Adonis After the repeated harassment of his valet, it was no surprise that Savage tore into his opponent as soon as the bell rang. What WAS a surprise to many however, was just how aggressive Adonis was in retaliating & the match serves as a way for Adonis to show off how effective a brawler he can be after months of his "Adorable" gimmick. After a physical battle of attriction, Savage manages to put down his latest challenger in empathic fashion with 2 "Savage Elbows". Elizabeth runs into the ring to embrace her man as the crowd cheers. Suddenly he looks up & his face goes wide with shock. He has just enough time to push Elizabeth out of the way before Stan Hansen nearly takes his head off with a Lariat! He then picks up the title belt & starts using it to whip Savage! Elizabeth summons her courage & tries to grab the belt away from Hansen who roughly shoves her to the mat. He then starts to close in as she crawls back to the corner. Thankfully just as he's about to move in, security swarms the ring as well as NWA officials who threaten serious repercussions if he doesn't leave immediately. He does so to deafening boos as medics check on the shaken Elizabeth & battered Savage. Winner and STILL NWA United States Champion:"Macho Man" Randy Savage Crockett Cup semifinals. Each match has a 45 minute time limit. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn &Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon)(NWA) defeat The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) (UWF) It's the methodical, mat based style of the Andersons vs the high octane offensive flurry of the Express. The Andersons cut the ring in half as only they can allowing Morton to play face in peril as only he can. The inevitable hot tag gets a mega pop as Gibson is your proverbial "house of fire". Unfortunately that enthusiasm costs him as he hits a crossbody on Ole only it hits to high allowing the crafty veteran to roll through & hook the tights for the sudden victory. Winners advancing to the finals of the Crockett Cup: The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (During the introductions, Jim Cornette once again snatches the mic away. "Pay attention Davey boy, I'll show you how it's done... Ladies and Gent *pauses then shakes his head laughing* Oh who am I kidding? Things that live in Columbia. It is your honor to have me introduce to you...the team that resides in every girls dream & every man's nightmare...the men who make more money in a year than anyone in this cesspool will make in a lifetime....and the men who could snatch up any of your wives with nothing more than a sideways glance, if there were any worth taking that is...the GREATEST Tag Team Champions Pacific Coast Wrestling has EVER had..."Beautiful" Bobby & "Sweet" Stan... The Midnight Express! AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami defeat PCW Pacific Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w Jim Cornette The fans were ready to shut Cornette's mouth themselves after that introduction & reaction with jubilation to every chop, slam & suplex the Japanese duo landed on them. To their credit Eaton & Lane weathered the initial storm & used their own mixture of quick offense & tight teamwork to battle back. Nevertheless, Tsurata & Fujinami kept coming back for more to the increasing worry of Cornette. Finally the "Louisville Lip" decides to make a move. As the ref is trying to break up a fight between Eaton & Tsurata, Cornette climbs into the ring & goes to nail Fujinami with the racket only for "The Dragon" to move causing the racket to connect with Lane! Cornette was horrified by his mistake which caused the crowd to erupt in cheers which got louder as Fujinami tossed the loudmouth manager to the floor as Eaton &Tsurata's brawl spilled to the floor. Lane is starting to pull himself up as the ref turns around but a "dragon suplex" puts him back down for the 3 count. Winners advancing to the finals of the Crockett Cup:AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami! NWA World Heavyweight Title Tully Blanchard(c) w/JJ Dillon vs "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes As much a contrast of personalities as a contrast of styles. The arrogant, elitist, mat technician Blanchard vs the down to earth man of the people Rhodes who, while he may lag behind in the wrestling department, nevertheless has the crowd hooked on every move he makes. What follows is a dramatic, back-and-forth encounter that has viewers on the edge of their seats & sometimes out of them entirely. Near falls are traded & finishers are narrowly avoid. Finally at around the 30 minute mark, Dusty connects with the "flip, flop & fly" into the "Bionic Elbow" before diving into the cover. The crowd counts along with the ref, 1-2- JJ dives into the ring & breaks the count! Dusty gets to his feet & grabs Dillon by the collar, he polls the crowd before delivering the "Bionic Elbow" to Dillon to thunderous applause. Result: Dusty Rhodes wins by DQ, Tully Blanchard retains the title. Crockett Cup Finals. No time limit The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson)(NWA) vs AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami With no Dillon at ringside, The Andersons are forced to rely on their considerable mat skills & textbook targeting of the opponents arm. The AWA Tag Champs battle back with stiff strikes & their own formidable wrestling abilities. What follows is a tightly contested and -by Horsemen standards- surprisingly clean match. About halfway through the match, a groggy Dillon makes his way to ringside & while his clients are clearly happy to see him, their reactions make clear they were expecting something else, or rather someone else. Dillon does what he can to influence the outcome but in his frazzled state his ability to do so is hampered & he's ultimately helpless to stop Ole falling victim to a Lariat/Dragon suplex combination. The AWA duo offer their opponents handshakes which the Andersons slap away before storming off with Dillon with cameras just picking up Ole shouting "where the hell was Flair?" Back in the ring Mrs Crockett presents the trophy & check to the AWA World Tag Team Champions who accept both with a bow of gratitude which is awkwardly returned. Confetti rains down as the winners proudly display their titles, their trophy & the million dollar check. Winners of the 1987 Jim Crockett Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament: AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami!
spaldoni
Night 1 gets Anita Baker and night 2 gets Reba. Let's do this. RnR going up against Badd Co. is a damn good match to kick things off. RnR advances in thrilling fashion. Freebirds get to play babyfaces and put on a show. However, thanks to JJ, the Andersons advance. Jumbo, Fujinami, Street and Dundee bring all the wrestling styles. The AWA champs are heading to the Semi's. Adonis brings the fight but Savage was to motivated to lose. Things shift quickly as Stan Hansen storms the scene! Wow! Adonis's flirting was one thing but Hansen pushing Liz down is on an entirely different level. This is going to be a war! RnR's sweet roll comes to an end at the hands of the Andersons. I know the fans were into this one. Cornette brings the heat with another classic introduction. The fans get what they want as Cornette not only costs his team but gets nailed by Fujinami. The Japanese and Andersons will go at it for the cup! Tully manages once again to escape with the title as Dusty gets the bittersweet DQ win. However, he does get the consolation bionic elbow on JJ. Tully defines heel LOL. Alright! For all the marbles. These 4 can get the job done and give the fans a good one. The Andersons are thrown off by the absence of Flair and the Japanese walk away with the win, the cup and one million dollars! I have to give a big thank you for putting my guys over! I thought for sure the Andersons were going to take it. The AWA will defiantly be talking about this. Looks like Brenda Britton will have to get them on her show now. Props to you and all the hard work you put into building all this up. Amazing job!
