Tuesday, June 13th - Clash of the Champions III

Dubuque, Iowa - Civic Center

The Clash III opens with a ruckus crowd. Tony and DDP are putting over a big night of action… as we’ve got a whale of a card set up here tonight. We will have 4 of the six opening round six-man tag team matches. We’ll have the television championship on the line. The WCW title will be defended when Ricky Steamboat takes on Dan Spivey. In the main event… Dusty Rhodes and Harley Race in a Texas Death Match… this is going to be a barn burner…. It is time to open things up right now… the television title is on the line!

TV Title
The Z-Man vs Bob Orton Jr.

{A good way to get things opened up. Zenk has got some nice pop from the fans…. The title has bounced around a little bit but looks good right here. Orton is a great opponent for Zenk. He gets some good heat. He is able to make him look strong. Most of all, Orton bumps for him. We see Cowboy Bob look to work towards a finish but Zenk starts his comeback. The finish is hot with Zenk setting him up and then coming off the top rope with a DROP KICK right to the mush! 1….2….3!!! Zenk retains the title and walks to the back… Eric Bischoff is standing by.}

Bischoff is standing on the ramp and Zenk is walking up. He is a little cotton-mouthed still but here comes DDP? DDP walks up and tells the world to hold a moment while he brings out his new buddy who is going to ROCK the world of WCW. The one and the only… The Honky Tonk Man!!! What in the world is this? Honky comes out to a chorus of boos from the crowd. He goes on to say that he’s the greatest entertainer in the history of professional wrestling and he’s come here to WCW to put a little shake, rattle, and roll into these fans.  Zenk says that he doesn’t quite care for the Honky Tonk Man’s music but appreciates him coming here to congratulate him. Honky says he isn’t here to congratulate but he’s here to challenge him! Zenk says that you have to earn this shot… earn the shot huh…. Honky SMASHES THE GUITAR OVER ZENK’S HEAD! Oh my… officials run out here… Honky smiles and works the crowd… Zenk is knocked smack dab out!

The Russians vs Chris Benoit, Tiger Mask II, & Dragon Azul
{Our first six-man match is pretty fun in terms of action. Benoit and Tiger Mask are stars in the making here. The Russians do their job and get some heat. The problem comes when Gary Hart comes out with Crush and Chono… Benoit and Tiger Mask then get involved and we’ve got some extra curricular outside the ring! Inside the ring, Dragon Azul turns around and RUSSIAN SICKLE! 1….2….3!!! The Russians move on in the tournament!}

Jake Roberts is in singles action and defeats Tommy Lane with the DDT. We get a peak at Damien who slithers all over him.  Roberts with an impressive outing against an unimpressive opponent.

Crush, Chono, & Muta  vs The PR Trio
{This one picks right up from where the previous match left off! The PR Trio end up with the luckiest draw of them all. Right away when the Japanese contingent get in the ring, Benoit, Tiger Mask, & Dragon Azul run down and we’ve got a six-man brawl in the aisle! The crowd is going wild. The referee has no choice but to count it out! The PR Trio get the win and we see Vega, Castillo, & Perez work the fans and get some big time heat!

Bam Bam Bigelow comes out to a huge pop from the fans. He works the crowd and then has a decent little match with Mike Davis. Bigelow sets the bar a little bit higher here and gets the finish with a diving headbutt! 1….2…3! Bam Bam is back and he looks to be on the rise!

Hacksaw Duggan & Nasty Boys vs Sabu, Taz, & Mark Madness
{This one ends up being halfway normal… well not really. It is a glorified squash with Duggan and the Nasty Boys brawling all over. Sabu and Taz end up fighting with each other. The Nasty Boys set up Mark Madness for a huge Hacksaw Clothesline and the 3-count! Duggan and The Nasty Boys are moving forward…

WCW CHAMPIONSHIP
Ricky Steamboat vs Dan Spivey
{Our WCW Title match is given all the time it is needed. We’ve got the Macho Man sitting in the front row with Elizabeth. They work the crowd. Dan Spivey looks like a monster. Steamboat, the David to Spivey’s Goliath, play the role better than anyone. He bumps for Spivey and sells everything he does. Spivey then works well with Steamboats fast action. Midway through… well… here they are… Bock and Brrisco are out here now. Savage looks to be getting hot outside the ring. Bock and Brisco aren’t doing anything wrong… just watching. Spivey picks up Steamboat and twirls him around and the referee gets knocked to the ground and he’s out! Brisco goes to check on him while Bock attends to Spivey. Steamboat then pulls him around and asks him what he’s doing!?! Bockwinkle says nothing and here comes Spivey with a boot right to the skull and Steamboat goes crashing into the guardrail right in front of Savage. Spivey picks up Steamboat and throws him across the guardrail. Spivey then looks over and says something to Savage… then Elizabeth… and Savage loses it! He jumps over the rail and attacks Spivey! The crowd is going nuts! The referee gets up and he calls for the DQ! Bock is irate and he tries to pull Savage off of Spivey… when he does… Savage gets right in his face and now here comes Spivey from behind! He is hammering down on Savage and here comes Steamboat! The officials and agents come down and break things up. Spivey is escorted to the back with Bock and Brisco… he’s calling out Savage and Steamboat… he wants both of em!

Konnan, Solar, & Blue Demon  vs Diablo & The Conquistadors
{A pretty basic six-man. We see the Lucha Style toned down quite a bit which is okay for Konnan and the Conquistadors but not so much the others. We do get some fun little leaps and jumps but the high spots only do so much. Solar and Blue Demon are able to get the Conquistadors under control and Konnan then grabs Diablo for a corkscrew brainbuster that gets a pop from the crowd! 1….2….3! Konnan, Solar, and Blue Demon are moving on!

Mike Rotundo vs Haku
{Rotundo is somewhere in the middle right here. He appears to be a babyface but works as a heel. He just hasn’t gotten his rhythm yet. Haku… he’s a monster. He hammers and wears down Rotundo. Haku goes for a big kick to the throat but Rotundo ducks down and rolls through and gets a rollup for the 3-count! Rotundo gets out of the ring and Haku isn’t done. He is coming for more and Rotundo got his W and doesn’t seem to want anything else!

Texas Death Match
Dusty vs Harley Race
{These two guys have done it all a couple of times over their careers. Tonight they get the final spot to show what they have left. The match is slow. Rhodes and Race almost kill any momentum with the pace but they have the star power to keep it going. We get a couple of close falls. Schiavone puts over how it is a pinfall and then a 10-count that must be reached in order to win. Race surprisingly gets the first fall when he smashes Rhodes’ head into the ringpost and then a 3-count. Rhodes gets up around the 7 count. A couple of minutes later, Rhodes hits a running crossbody and gets a 3-count. Race gets up around the 8-count. The fight spills outside the ring and that’s where things take an interesting turn. Rhodes gets popped and openly blades the absolute shit out of his forehead. This is a gusher. The crowd is in shock. Schiavone and DDP almost no sell it but it is getting everywhere. Once again, we see Brisco come out and he’s at ringside. We get into the final moments of the match and it is a couple of big elbows and Race is rocking and then Rhodes grabs him for a PILEDRIVER and the 3-count! Rhodes and Brisco are arguing with one another while the referee counts to 10!

Mike McGuirk announces that Rhodes is the winner and he celebrates. Race rolls out of the ring and has some words with Brisco. Rhodes works the crowd but we fade out quite quickly.

Savage, Spivey and Steamboat all sound off on the world title match at the Clash. There's something big coming I can feel it.

Race and Rhodes finally agree on something, at the Clash, it all ends.

Slick enters his trio causing the Rockers to recruit Roma giving us 10 teams for the loaded tournament.

Zenk & Orton could be something of a sleeper.

Duggan signs up The Nasties to fight the Russians but they make clear their only here for the titles.

Exciting ending scene as Benoit becomes a dual champion only to get jumped by Muta.

Zenk looks pretty good against Orton but his night isn't over. HTM arrives and gets instant heat with a guitar blast! HTM will be a solid fixture in the TV title scene.

The Clash always delivers on showcases. Jake and Bigelow get theirs.

The world title bout gets chaotic! Savage and Steamboat are on the same page. I loved the shot of Spivey wanting both of them. I'm curious to get Bock's thoughts on all this.

I'm looking forward to watching what Rotunda does here. Hopefully we get Varsity Club Captain Mike.

So far, the 6 man tournament matches have been a lot of fun. A bit of something for everybody. I think the Russians might pull it off.

Dusty and Race get the job done. They gave the fans a proper blow off and Dusty got color. Great way to end the show.

Damn site put my comment on a new chapter so I didn't notice the Clash.

Z-Man gets past the Ace but Honky lays him out afterwards. This could be fun.

Hart's men cost Benoit & co but it's not long before they pay for it.

Duggan & the Nasties got a lucky draw.

Konnan, Silver & BD slow things down leading to a win.

Roberts & Bigelow get chances to flex.

Rotundo escapes with his life.

Savage goes ballistic and ruins the World title match. Could we be heading for a triple threat?

Rhodes ends the night bloody & victorious, just how he likes it.

WCW opens tonight with DDP and Schiavone putting over the big Clash of the Champions. They talk about the crazy WCW title match… the six-man title matches… and of course the big announcement. WCW returns to Pay Per View in July for American Meltdown live from Chicago at Soldier Field! We will hear from Nick Bockwinkle tonight. We will hear from Randy Savage, Danny Spivey, and of course, Ricky the Dragon Steamboat! Let’s go to the ring for our opening contest!

The PR Trio wins a trio match showcasing their lucha talents but also some brawling.

Konnan, Solar, and Blue Demon come out and they work the fans. They put over the six-man tournament and how they’ll meet the PR Trio in two weeks. Konnan says tonight he will put an end to the Demon Diablo once and for all!

WCW is back and we’ve got the Honky Tonk man out and he’s got… the Rock N Roll RPMS? He and DDP jive a little before Honky says that these two men are his Rock n Roll Roadies and tonight they will be teaming up to beat down the team of Tom Zenk, Mike Rotundo, and Jake Roberts! Honky says he is going to shake, rattle, and roll all over those three and his roadies and going to take out the garbage!

Konnan defeated Diablo in a glorified squash. The Conquistadors don’t even make an effort to get involved and Diablo is left to Konnan and the corkscrew brainbuster! Konnan looks very strong here… he has his eyes on the prize coming up down the line… the Trios Title… Perhaps getting his Mexican Championship back…

Before we cut to break… we go to Eric Bischoff who is standing by with an odd trio of Zenk, Mike Rotundo, and Jake Roberts? They each cut a little promo but it is Jake… who says… It’s amazing that some people thing unity will decide the fate of others… when in reality our fate is in our own hands but not anothers. Do you hold my fate (Zenk)? Do you hold my fate (Rotundo)? No… you see I hold my own fate… and with Damien… we will seal your fate!

WCW is back and we’ve got the Slickster with Bischoff… he is talking about our big main event tonight… the Rockers and Paul Roma taking on the Twin Towers and Hercules. Slick points out how the Rockers are nothing but teenie boppers and now they are going to get Paul Roma thumped!

Chris Benoit beats Pauly Rocco via the Trip of German Suplexes!

Benoit walks over to the booth and he points how how he, Dragon Azul, and Tiger Mask have got some unfinished business and it is time to get the job done… Benoit holds up both the European and Mexican titles… he says that the only thing better than two is three and Muta has what he’s looking for!

We’re back and here comes Gary Hart… he’s got Muta, Chono, and Crush… he is flaming hot right now. He tells everyone that Benoit is speaking out of his… well… he can’t say the word. Benoit has cost them the six-man titles. He tells Crush to go and get some revenge…

Crush goes in the ring and destroys Kyle Ford and finishes him with a nasty chokeslam!

Here comes Nick Bockwinkle… he is followed up by Gerald Brisco… He is cornered by Gary Hart and they have a quick conversation… he has a contract… Bock then goes to the microphone and announces that two matches have been signed for the big Pay Per View from Solider Field. The first will be a unification bout between Chris Benoit and Muta where the European, Mexico, and Japan championships will be unified. The second… there will be an invitational battle royal… the winner will receive the first shot at the unified championship on July the 30th when WCW Presents the Bash at the BallPark when we have a big event from Wrigley Field in Chicago! The crowd pops for the announcements… but then here comes Dan Spivey… he is yelling at Bock and says he owes him the title! We’ll be right back…

We’re back on WCW and Brisco is standing in between Dan Spivey and Bockwinkle. Spivey says that Bock broke their deal and he wants the belt! This brings out none other than the Macho Man Randy Savage and he has his finger right in Spivey’s face! They are jaw jacking as Brisco is getting pushed around and disheveled.

Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Tom Robbins via the top rope heatbutt!

Bam Bam walks past and makes a funny look at Spivey but now here comes Ricky Steamboat! Bockwinkel is trying to calm all the men down… Brisco is not ready for this… here comes Bischoff and he is almost punched right in the face by Spivey! We’ll be back with some kind of a resolution…

We’re back and Bockwinkle is putting all three men in charge. Steamboat says that he will defend the title against both of them at the same time! Savage says he wants the title. Spivey says he was the title. Bockwinkle then calls for a meeting in the back…

Mike Rotundo, Tom Zenk, & Jake Roberts vs Honky Tonk Man & The Rock n Roadies
{A fun little six-man….  Honky does everything but get in the ring. Jake is also laying low on the other side. Zenk and Rotundo have some good stuff with the Roadies. Honky keeps hollering at Zenk and before too long The Z-Man strikes and he goes right after Honky and they are throwing hands outside the ring. Davis is out there trying to stop it… here comes Rotundo… that leaves Lane in the ring and he turns around to find Jake Roberts and a DDT! The crowd explodes for the 3-count! Jake leaves the ring… the Roadies tackle Rotundo… Honky then comes from behind and DESTROYS a guitar on Zenk’s back! The crowd is going nuts… more officials come out… pure chaos….

We’re back… Nick Bockwinkle comes out… he announces that at American Meltdown… Randy Savage will take on Dan Spivey… the match will NOT be for the United States championship but WILL determine who will face Ricky the Dragon Steamboat later on that evening in the main event for the WCW Championship! A huge announcement… plus he says we’ll determine the six-man champions at that show… what a night it will be!

The Rockers & Paul Roma vs Hercules & The Twin Towers w/ Slick
{This one has got some good heat with Slick, Hercules, and the Towers. The Rockers have got some really good love from the fans. Roma is a new face to the crowd but he sells well enough. The Rockers and Towers are really throwing hands here and One Man Gang is giving Shawn and Marty all kinds of love with his sells. This one has limited time remaining in regards to TV time. Schiavone is heard yelling that we’ve only got 3-minutes left on the air. The Towers are looking to finish but the Rockers have something left. We’ve got a little chaos to finish the match but we see Roma go for a cross body but he takes out Shawn Michaels instead and they go out of the ring… that leaves Jannetty to be turned around for Bossman and the Bossman SLAM! 1…2….3! The tag champs are the winners… they move on in the tournament! Time has run out as Michaels is checking on Jannetty and Roma is irate!}

Konnan & the PR Trio all look good ahead of their tournament match in two weeks.

I'm liking the RPM's as Honky's roadies. They may have lost but I see a future.

Benoit & Muta will meet to crown the first International champion...if Crush doesn't get to Benoit first.

The Slickster's trio move one step closer to collecting some more gold.

The issue between Savage, Spivey and Steamboat will hopefully be settled at American Meltdown.

A lot going on as WCW heads into American Meltdown.

I love how you give everybody something to do. Each segment had some kind of heat.

The International scene has taken WCW by storm. It's awesome seeing stars from Europe, Japan and Mexico in the thick of things.

Using the RPMs as HTM's roadies is genius. It's a great fit.

Jake is so good at being so cryptic.

The road to the 6 man titles has been a lot of fun. So many great trios involved.

Talk about putting importance on the world title. Steamboat, Savage and Spivey are in the mix as is Bock and Brisco. I think they made the right call having Savage and Spivey battle for the title shot.

A lot of things will be determined at American Meltdown.

I think it is smart to use Konnan as part of the 6 man scene.  He still has a long way to go before he is ready to get big time attention.

Savage vs Steamboat vs Spivey is interesting.  To me Savage is Steamboat is the real match but if Spivey somehow wins vs Savage, that main event could lose a little stem.

I might have to agree with Slick about how the rockers are only teenie boppers but they do sell some major tickets!

July 4th is a big show for where WCW goes in the future.  Looking forward to it.

Didn't know I missed a week... here goes.

World Championship Wrestling
Saturday, June 24

WCW is live and here is DDP and Tony Schiavone ringside. They pump up the two big six-man matches we have in line tonight… plus we’ll see Randy Savage and Dan Spivey each in action tonight. We’ll also hear from Ricky Steamboat, the Rockers,  and more as we are preparing for American Meltdown live on July the 9th from Soldier Field! Here comes the Macho Man Randy Savage and Elizabeth!

Randy Savage w/ Elizabeth defeated Diablo via the top rope elbow

Savage comes over with Liz and cuts a big promo on Dan Spivey and talks about how he is a mountain of a man but Savage is going to be a lumberjack and cut him down to size! He says that Ricky Steamboat and the WCW title is the Ultimate Prize and he’s going to reach the mountain top and drive this elbow right through his heart. DIG IT! On an interesting note… in the crowd… is that…. Is that Sherri?

DDP is really agging on Schiavone about how the Honky Tonk Man is the superior wrestler and entertainer over the Z-man. He talks about how the Rock N Roadies are going to have his back 9 times out of 10 and twice on Sunday jack. Schiavone asks why Honky doesn’t sign the contract for a tv title match to which DDP says he only signs record deals!

Honky Tonk Man w/ the Rock n Roadies defeated Mike Toldbert via the Shake, Rattle, and Roll!

Z-man is out talking about the big six-man next week against the Russians. Honky and the Roadies come over and starting pushing his buttons until Mike Rotundo comes out to even up the odds! Honky and his crew back off… this one could explode at any minute!

We’re back with WCW and the Rockers are here. They pump up the big six-man match coming up and talk about being 100% behind Duggan and even the Nasty Boys. They don’t think the Nasties can be trusted but time will tell. They put over how they want the shot at the tag titles but Slick has his demands and not only will they meet them but they will exceed them and get the gold back!

SIX-MAN TOURNAMENT
Konnan, Solar, & Blue Demon vs The PR Trio
{The Lucha Style just hasn’t caught on and you can tell that the fans are just not into it. Konnan has a little bit of a name while the PR Trio look the part. There is some fun brawling that gets the crowd going but the high flying seems out of its element… especially when the heels do it as well. Long story short… these guys all end up tossing one another around until they’re outside the ring. Konnan then hits a huge plancha and everyone is down. The referee counts to 10. Double Count Out… what does this mean for the tournament?

WCW returns and DDP has walked over and he approaches Sherri and asks her why she’s here. Sherri just smiles at the camera and says that she has been watching WCW for a while now and this is the big league of professional wrestling. She is in a league of her own and she’s going to stake her claim at the top of WCW when they least expect it! DDP asks who they are… and Sherri just smiles and blows a kiss!

Tiger Mask II defeated Diego Charles via the Tiger Driver!

Tiger Mask walks over and he’s joined by Chris Benoit. They put over the big International Championship match at Meltdown and how tonight Crush is taking on Dragon Azul but next week he has Chris Benoit! Benoit questions if Muta even has the guts to show up!

Gary Hart is at ringside and he’s got Muta in the full get up and Chono with him. Here comes the monster that is Crush. Hart is telling Chris Benoit to come out here and get the beating he deserves!

Crush vs Dragon Azul is a colossal beatdown. Azul tries to fly but Crush grounds him early and gets the better of him. It gets to a point where the referee is trying to stop it but Crush shoves him out of the ring! It is a DQ victory for Azul but he is far from the winner. Here comes Benoit and Tiger Mask to fend off Gary Hart’s men. Hart just laughs and smiles… he tells them that one by one they will all go down!

WCW Champion, Ricky Steamboat brings us back to television. He and Eric Bischoff put over the big triangle situation at American Meltdown. Steamboat points out that both Spivey and Savage have had their shots and he is still the champion… but now it is the final shot… for either of them… the title means a lot to Ricky Steamboat and he’s going to prove why he’s a champion at American Meltdown!

Dan Spivey beats the living hell out of Brad Merchant and nails a NASTY powerbomb for the 3-count!

Spivey then walks over and grabs the microphone… he is calling out Steamboat and Savage… he says he wants them both at the same time! Spivey says the US title is good but the WCW title is the top and he is the top guy in WCW… he’s the baddest… he’s the best!

WCW returns and here comes Bam Bam Bigelow. He puts over the big American Meltdown pay per view and says that he plans to be there and to make an impact. He wonders when Dan Spivey is going to defend that US title again. He says he wouldn’t mind having a shot at the International Title as well. He’s also going to keep a close eye on the WCW title match and hopes to get in the mix for that sooner than later!

Haku comes out and almost rips Ken Worth’s nose off and beats him with a Tongan Chop for a 3-count!

As we’re preparing for our break… Sherri Martel shows back up and tells DDP that she has got a big surprise for everyone… and it is going to shake WCW down to its very core!

WCW returns and DDP and Tony are pumping up our big main event… they talk about next week’s show from Carbondale, Illinois and how we expect to hear something from Sherri. We’ll see Chris Benoit taking on Crush… plus the Russians take on The Z-man, Jake Roberts, and Mike Rotundo in the six-man tournament. DDP Also points out that he has just heard… next week… it’s gonna be live when Ricky Steamboat is wrestling… and he goes against… Haku! They pump it up along with our big main event… let’s go to the ring!

SIX-MAN TOURNAMENT
Hacksaw Duggan & The Nasty Boys vs Hercules & The Twin Towers w/ Slick
{This is a pretty fun six-man to finish off a hectic night. We’ve got Duggan and the Nasty Boys… an odd couple if there ever was one. They aren’t smooth by any stretch of the imagination. The Towers are primed for big things and they showcase some great continuity in the ring. We then see Hercules come in to clean up the mess. These guys go about 12-minutes and we’ve got limited time remaining. Just when the Towers and Herc look like they are going to finish things off - here comes Shawn and Marty… they pull the attention of the Towers… Slick is trying to get his men back in the ring but now the Nasty Boys jump off the apron an take them out. Hercules turns around and Duggan with a huge clothesline and then the 3-count!}

The Rockers just cost the Towers and Hercules the six-man titles. Slick is going nuts outside the ring. The Rockers are laughing all the way to the back. Duggan seems to be happy with the outcome as the Nasty Boys seem to ignore him and walk off. The Towers are calling out the Rockers right now.. What’s going to happen with these two teams meet up?!

Sherri arrives and makes sure she's a focal point of the show.

Lucha may not be catching on but the double c.o adds some intrigue to the Six Man tournament.

The Rockers aren't finished messing with the Towers yet.

Bam Bam has his eyes on some gold.

Benoit v Crush, Steamboat v Haku, another big six man and a big announcement from Sherri, next week is gonna be huge.

World Championship Wrestling
Saturday, July 1 - Carbondale, Illinois

Sherri opens up WCW this week… and she announces that she has secured the services of a team here in WCW… that team is…  THE NASTY BOYS! Sags and Knobbs come out and they soak in the boos. Sherri says she now owns the contracts of these men… and with that… she has something to say to Jim Duggan. Hacksaw comes out and Sherri lets him know that he is no longer needed in the six-man match… she tells him that since she bought the Nasty Boy contracts… she also has complete control over their future and there is no way her men are going to be teaming up with a buffoon like him! Duggan looks like he’s going to say something to her but the Nasty Boys attack! Duggan is laid out… they Nasty Boys and Sherri walk off… Duggan gets back up and makes chase!

Los Conquistadors vs Solar & Blue Demon Jr.
{A simple enough tag team match. Conquistadors have a bit of a future here but Solar and Demon seem to be on the way out. They have a lot more money on the table south of the border. We get a fun corkscrew brainbuster from I and then II comes with a senton! 1…2…3}

Before we head to break… Konnan comes out to let everyone know he is entering the big battle royal at American Meltdown… he may not have a chance to be the first international champion but he will be the first to challenge for it!

WCW is back and we’ve got the Honky Tonk Man out here with his Roadies. They are all goofy looking and acting like security. Honky says he is going to play a song at American Meltdown that might just melt the ears of all his fans. Wait a moment… here comes Tom Zenk! The TV champ comes out and he gets right up against Honky and the Roadies. Zenk says that he has a contract waiting to be signed to take on the Honky Tonk Man and he says he’ll defend the TV title. Honky says that Zenk may have to wait because he’s in the six-man tournament… Zenk tells him he’ll take care of that and that Honky won’t be able to run away this time!

Hercules destroys Brian Cage via the Torture Rack!

Hercules joins Slick and the Twin Towers as they make it clear that the issue with the Rockers is going to come to an end at American Meltdown… Slick says the match is signed and the titles are on the line but in reality… it is going to be the end of the Rockers and all that’s left for them to do is cry like the little boys that they are!

WCW returns with the Rockers coming out and getting a huge pop from the crowd. They let the fans know that the match has been signed with Twin Towers… the titles are on the line but it is going to be about respect and no one is going to disrespect them anymore!

The Great Muta w/ Gary Hart defeated Silver King via the Moonsault

Hart brings over Muta, Chono, & Crush. They put over a big six-man tag next week but they doubt that Benoit is going to be there… Hart says Muta has a special myst ready for Benoit… not only will it win him the International Championship but also send him into the abyss!

We’re back here and we see DDP and Schiavone putting over the big international championship match. Right now, Crush is in the ring and here comes the Mexican and European Champion… Chris Benoit! Let’s go to the ring!

Chris Benoit vs Crush w/ Gary Hart
{A simple enough contest with all the shenanigans going on outside the ring with Gary Hart. Crush is really turning into a monster here. He is very intimidating and has some great power. The fans don’t really seem to be behind either of these guys. Benoit has a little steam but once he gets going… Chono and Muta jump in the ring. They are pounding away until Dragon Azul and Tiger Mask II come running out. We get a DQ victory for Benoit. The six-man brawl until officials come out… time told tale…}

WCW is back with Schiavone and DDP.  They put over how next week we’ll see a six-man tag match with Benoit, Tiger Mask II, and Dragon Azul vs Chono, Crush, & Muta. We then see Nick Bockwinkle come out and he’s got a huge smile on his face… he announces that he is in the final stages of the biggest signing in the history of WCW. He says that this is going to change the entire scope of the WCW and will take us to the next level. He also announces that YES… Sherri has secured the contracts of the Nasty Boys… and yes… they have the contractual right to not allow Jim Duggan on the team for the finals. We then see Tom Zenk come out… he brings Bock to the back… while we wait… it is time for the debut of a new team here in WCW… Rusty and Dusty… The Jesters… these two guys come out… as clowns…? They seem to be happy go lucky… but then their smiles turn to frowns when the bell rings.

Rusty & Dusty defeated Bob Collins & Seth Green via the Last Laugh (Rusty holds Seth for an atomic drop while Dusty comes off the top rope with a leg drop following a spinebuster)

Tom Zenk comes back out and he’s got Bock with him… Bock doesn’t look happy… Bock announces that we will see a television championship match at American Meltdown between The Z-man and the Honky Tonk Man! Bock says he’s going to find a replacement for Zenk in the six-man tag match… we will find out who that is when we come back!

WCW returns with the Honky Tonk Man out here causing a ruckus with his Roadies… now Sherri comes out with the Nasty Boys… everyone is up in arms… then we see Mike Rotundo and Jake Roberts come out…. The Russians are in the ring… the Z-man then announces that he would love to be their partner… but if he can’t do it… he has got the next best thing to take his place…. HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN!!!

The Russians vs Hacksaw Duggan, Rotundo, & Jake Roberts
{Hacksaw comes out with the American Flag and 2x4! Everyone is going crazy! The Russians aren’t ready for this. Rotundo and Jake come with some big shots… here comes Duggan with a huge clothesline on one of the Pitbulls! The other Pitbull turns around… wait a minute… Jake Roberts grabs him for the DDT! 1…..2….3!! OH MY! Jake, Rotundo, and Hacksaw are going to the finals of the six-man tournament! They will face the Nasty Boys… and whomever they have as a partner?!?}

WCW is back and what a night… we’ve got a TV Title match announced… we’ve got Sherri here and she’s got the Nastys in the six-man finals against Duggan, Jake, and Rotundo… we also hear that there will be a debut next week of a former World Champion who will change the scope of WCW. Now… we welcome out… the one and the only… Randy Macho Man Savage. He puts over the big showdown in two weeks with Spivey and Steamboat. He says he’s training for two matches… he wants to walk out with the title and will do whatever it takes. He wants to stay ringside for our big main event…

Ricky Steamboat vs Haku
{Huge opportunity for Haku who is starting to make some waves here in WCW. He is a monster inside the ring but Steamboat, the WCW Champ, is on a different level. He throws rights and lefts and chops and kicks and stands toe to toe with the Tongan Monster. Haku is able to slow things down a bit and get control only for Steamboat to make a grand comeback. The crowd is 100% behind him. They are chanting and cheering but that quickly turns to OHHHs as here comes Dan Spivey out of the back. Steamboat isn’t giving him any attention… Haku goes for a huge kick but Steamboat ducks underneath… comes through with a backslide and the 1…2….3! Steamboat has won it but this isn’t over. Here comes Spivey!

Spivey jumps right in the ring and goes after Steamboat… Savage makes his way in but he’s thwarted by Haku! We’ve got a four-way brawl here. Spivey and Steamboat start to brawl out of the ring. Savage tosses Haku out of the ring. He then comes off with a huge double ax-handle smash from the top rope! Wait a minute… Spivey picks up Steamboat… OH NO! HE POWERBOMBS STEAMBOAT OFF THE STAGE! O M G!

{The Finals are set for the six-man tag team championship… but who is going to be the 3rd man for Sherri and the Nasty Boys?!? Will we find out… also… next week… a former World Champion makes his debut here in WCW… who will it be?!? What is the status of Ricky Steamboat after that powerbomb? Fans… it is going to be can’t miss as we head right into American Meltdown!}

Sherri pulling some contractual wizardry to sign The Nasty Boys, have them ditch Duggan but keep them in the tournament finals.

Los Conquistadors assert themselves as WCW's top Lucha duo.

Konnan throws his hat in the battle royal.

The Rockers get their rematch with The Towers at American Meltdown.

Benoit's feud with Gary Hart International gets taken to the next level.

WCW sends in the clowns.

Z-Man vs HTM is on for Meltdown. But Zenk doesn't leave his partners hanging as he gives his spot to Duggan!

Haku gives the champ a good fight but The Dragon comes out on top. Spivey and Savage hit the ring and the brawl is on.

Sherri comes in and Duggan's out. I'm all for Sherri managing heel Nasties.

Looks like some Luchas are heading out. However, the Conquistadors have found a good home in WCW.

Rockers get their wish but be careful what you wish for.

Gary Hart has put together quite a stable. I'm rooting for Muta!

I was a big fan of evil Doink, so I'm intrigued by Rusty and Dusty. Very interesting.

I'm sure the RPM's are thanking HTM for giving them a bit of a resurgence.

Thanks to Zenk, Duggan's back in the tournament. This turned out well for Duggan. Jake gets that DDT over!

Damn! Will Steamboat be able to make it to American Meltdown??? The saga continues.

I'm excited to see who this former champ is coming in. He must be a big deal if Bock says so.

Glad to see Sherri and was pumped for her big news but was kind of let down by it being the Nasties. I think the Rockers would have been better off with her to offset Slick in their battles with the Towers. The '88 Up-and-comers would have been a bigger signing than the Not-Going-Anywhere Nasties ... but that is just me.

I agree. In early wcw drafts I had, Sherri was with the heel rockers but I just can’t see her play baby face with them when I have Elizabeth doing similar. I can only encourage to keep with it as this is only the beginning for the sensational one

Looking forward to Meltdown.  Spivey just became a real contender in my eyes.  I always looked at him as an extra in this feud but the powerbomb on Steamboat.

Nothing against your show but this is about the time I started to lose interest in wrestling.  I blame the WWF for this in real life as they went for the entertainment side of the business vs the feuds and brawls of the southern promotions.  Things like clowns and guitars began to turn me off.  Don't get me wrong.  I think you are doing a great job as we head out of the era I liked into something different.

I also really disliked ECW and the chaos of their classless, out of control fans and wrestlers.... I mean it was just what you would expect from something in Philadelphia.  That being said, seeing the Nasty Boys being the big news by Sherri was somewhat disappointing.  I hope Hacksaw gets some real revenge.

Please don't take my comments the wrong way.  You are doing an awesome job of capturing the national, entertaining feel of the late 80's.  I just wish cable tv and the WWF never ruined what I loved.

Oh I agree with you on the heel issue rather than as a face. I was thinking a heel turn for the Rockers. Maybe not so much as the "Shit Heels" but more as Cocky Heels. Sherri's still a looker in '88 which plays into the looks department which was the huge appeal of the Rockers.

Have no fear, I am along for the ride.

As someone who loved ECW because it was different, I agree with you on the Nasty Boys. It was a disappoint that they were Sherri's news. Now, they will probably thrive under her because that is what she does, I just don't think they are all that deserving of her talent.

World Championship Wrestling
Saturday, July 8
Cicero, Illinois

WCW is live and fans we are moments away from finding out just who Nick Bockwinkle has signed to World Championship Wrestling… Sherri has promised to reveal her third man… we have a huge main event… Dan Spivey and Haku taking on Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat. All this and more as we head into American Meltdown tomorrow night from Soldier Field! Let’s head to the ring for our opening contest!

Rusty & Dusty the Jesters defeated Ryan Ford & Kyle Ripken via the Atomic Leg Drop!

The two clowns make their way over to Tony and DDP with smiles but those smiles turn upside down quickly. DDP plays a fool and backs up from them… acting like he doesn’t like clowns… Tony asks what their motives are… Dusty says that they are here for fun… to make the kids laugh… and then Rusty comes back with… to inflict pain. You see there is nothing worse than a sad clown… someone who makes people laugh all day but can’t crack a smile when his paint comes off… so we leave our paint on… we want to make everyone smile… except our opponents… there will be no smiling for them… weird stuff here… the Jesters walk off and the fans aren’t sure what to make of them.

WCW is back with Tony aad DDP running down some of the big matches tomorrow night from Soldier Field… they talk about the Savage vs Spivey match which will set up the main event… we also head about the big international battle royal… we find out that men from all over the world will be a part of it… right now we’ve got a pair of those men in action… let’s go to the ring!

Konnan vs Diablo is a decent enough contest with Konnan putting the finishing touches on this feud. Dibiase just doesn’t have any momentum and the lucha movement isn’t going very well due to feedback from the fans. Konnan hits a corkscrew brainbuster and that spells the end for our friend Diablo!

Before we head to break… Tony and DDP are joined by the Honky Tonk Man who says that it is a travesty that he is being forced to wrestle the Z-Man tomorrow night but because of it… he’s going to play all his greatest hits and show the thousands of fans just why he’s the greatest entertainer in all of professional wrestling!

WCW returns and here comes Chris Benoit… he holds the Mexican and European titles… he points out that these mean a lot to him but it is the third that will mean the most. Unifying the titles is something so few people get a chance to do… Muta is going to feel the intensity and the first he’s had for years and it all comes down to this. We’ll see them in a six-man in a few moments… right now we’ve got more action…

Jake the Snake Roberts defeated Mark Marcus via the DDT! Diamien even gets to come out and see everyone and slither around the ring…

Roberts walks over and Tony asks him about the six-man title match tomorrow night… Jake goes on… “Do I look like a man worried about titles and gold? I don’t think so brother… Ia m worried about pride… justice if you will. I have been on the highest mountains and in the deepest valleys and there is no amount of gold that can keep you alive when you have nothing left to breath. That’s the thing about a snake… they can’t be bargained or bribed… they are in it for survival and I am the same way. I will wrap myself around until there is only a glimmer of light and then… well then you’re all mine. Nasty Boys… Sherri… you talk about the titles like they are the end all be all well you’re looking at the real end right here… and don’t that beat all.

Gary Hart brings us back to WCW and he’s got his crew primed and ready for the six-man. Muta, Chono, and Crush all work the crowd into a big spot as Hart says tomorrow night he’s going to unleash Muta and his full potential! Right now we’ve got a huge matchup… let’s go to the ring!

Benoit, Tiger Mask II, & Dragon Azul vs Chono, Crush, & Muta w/ Gary Hart
{A good six-man here with plenty of juice. All of these guys have got some story and history but it is Tiger Mask and Muta that set the stage just a bit higher than anyone else. Benoit gets his chance with Muta and they give us a taste. The finish is quick with Tiger Mask and Muta going out of the ring. Azul goes and attacks Crush who throws him over the ropes to the rampway. This gives Tiger Mask a chance to hit a Tiger Driver and pinfall on Chono! Tiger Mask, Benoit, and Azul try to regroup. Muta and company aren’t happy. Gary Hart is letting Chono have it!

Rick Steamboat comes out with the WCW title and tells the fans quick and simple… he may not be 100% but he is bringing everything he’s got tonight…  he knows there is no better partner than Randy Savage… wait just a moment… Tony Schaivone says that when we come back… Nick Bockwinkle is bringing out the newest WCW signing… Steamboat says he’s going to wait around and see what happens.

WCW is back… the fans are stirring… Steamboat is waiting… here comes Bock. He has got Brisco with him…  he then gets on the microphone…

Bockwinkel: Ladies and gentlemen… I am so excited for this announcement. Over the last couple of weeks… I have been in deep negotiations with this talent and I have the privilege to introduce to you… the newest member of WCW… he is the former heavyweight champion of the world… ladies and gentlemen… the Nature Boy Ric Flair!

{The crowd goes bonkers here… they are in shock as out of the back walks the Nature Boy himself. He is stylin and profilin here and works the fans…}

Flair then walks over to Steamboat and they shake hands and share a hug. They look to be all smiles… Ricky says he can’t believe he’s here and Flair himself says he is honored… he then grabs the microphone…

Ric Flair: Wooo! I am so excited to be here in the major leagues of professional wrestling! Chicago… are you kidding me… greatest city in the world… the finest restaurants… tallest buildings… best night clubs… fanciest hotels… and now you’ve got the Nature Boy! WOOO! Rick… I have to tell you… I’ve been watching you man… this is an amazing run that you’re on… first WCW champion… defending it against all odds. I know that tomorrow night… you step in the ring with Savage or Spivey… both great competitors… I know you’ve got some pretty busted up ribs… but I can tell you right now… outside of myself… there is not a man walking this earth with a bigger heart than you when it comes to stepping into that ring and of course being the champion. I am pulling for you pal! (Shakes Steamboat’s hand) but I also want to say… haha… I want to be the first man to get a shot at the title when it’s all said and done. Huh?

Ricky Steamboat smiles and they shake hands… Flair raises up the hand of Steamboat… Bockwinkle announces that Flair is going to be at ringside for the big WCW title match tomorrow night. This will be something the fans can’t afford to miss!

Before we cut to commercial… we see a fun little contest with…

Bam Bam Bigelow defeated George Shaw via the top rope headbutt!

WCW is back and here is Bam Bam. He says that this is a time to be in WCW right now. He is pumped for all the happenings and he wants to be the man to put it all on the line… out of the back though… wait a minute… Sensational Sherri comes out… and he looks right at Bam Bam. She walks over and says something in earshot of the microphone… “It is time for you to make a decision…” Sherri then walks off… no clue what this means… is Bam Bam the third man?!

Los Conquistadors defeated Ralphy Riggins & Mike Redrock via the double suplex!

Z-Man joins us right before commercial. He talks about the WCW Television Title being one of the most contested titles in the sport. Tomorrow night… it gets a first class look from all the people on pay per view and he doesn’t want to disappoint. He wants to show the Honky Tonk Man that it is more than swinging those hips in the ring… Zenk is going to be swinging those rights and lefts and coming from every which way with his offense to shut him up once and for all!

WCW returns and here comes Slick and the Twin Towers. They look massive… Slick goes on about how tomorrow night it isn’t going to be a technical masterpiece but rather an execution if you will. Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty are going to be walking the plank in front of 50,000 people and they will meet their end when it comes to the Twin Towers. He then puts over Hercules as the man who is going to step up to the plate to be the next WCW Champion… Slick isn’t worried about Dan Spivey… Randy Savage… Ric Flair… he ain’t worried about any of them… he has got his man prime and ready for Ricky Steamboat and it is going to be a slaughter because his party is going to be OVER!

Hercules beats the hell out of Pauly Wallace and finishes him with the Torture Rack!

Before commercial… we see an argument going on in the back… it is Duggan and Bam Bam… these guys are buddies? Here comes Mike Rotundo as well… he’s in action when we come back!

WCW is back and here comes the Rockers. They put over the big tag team title match tomorrow night. Out of the back comes Paul Roma who says that he has got their back and looks to be on the lookout for Hercules and anyone else who wants to try and stop them from getting the titles. Shawn and Marty agree and shake his hand as they let the fans know they won’t let them down. It is going to be a fight to the limit tomorrow night and the Rockers haven’t found their limits yet!

Mike Rotundo defeated Tommy Knight via the Fisherman’s Suplex…

We then see the Nasty Boys come out… they are circling… Sherri is laughing and looking on… here comes Duggan and he’s got Bam Bam with him…  Duggan throws Bam Bam the 2x4 and he is going after the Nasty Boys… the ring is getting cleared but when Duggan turns back around Bigelow with a shot right to the skull with the 2x4! OH MY! The board is split in half… Bigelow looks on like a man possessed…  he walks to the back… Sherri is laughing so maniacally. Has he sold his soul to be with Sherri!?!

WCW returns and DDP and Schiavone are putting over the big night so far… we’ve seen the debut of the Nature Boy Ric Flair who will be ringside tomorrow night for the WCW title match… we’ve see Bam Bam Bigelow… for all intents and purposes join Sherri and the Nasty Boys…  plus we’ve still got a big tag team main event coming up. They hear that Eric Bischoff is on his way to find Bigelow right now…

Vega, Castillo, & Perez defeated Solar, Blue Demon, & Silver King in a six-man lucha match. One last shot for these guys to get over and all they do is go over the ropes a couple of times. Fans do give them a little love but this seems to have ran its course and the PR Trio is going to be looking to make waves in another way while the Lucha Boys are looking to find a place in this world of wrestling.

Before commercial… we see Bischoff running in the back to find Bigelow who is ignoring him and walking away. We see he push Eric and then get into a limo… the limo speeds off… is he the third man for Sherri!?!

We’re back and WCW runs a special promo for American Meltdown tomorrow night live from Soldier Field. We see all the big matches highlighted. We’re back in the arena here and we’ve got limited time remaining… Spivey and Haku are in the ring… here comes Savage… then WCW Champion Rick Steamboat! Ric Flair comes out to another good pop and joins Tony and DDP…

Randy Savage & Ricky Steamboat vs Haku & Dan Spivey
{Short, sweet, and to the point in this one. Flair is putting over Steamboat in a big way on commentary as he plays babyface oh so well. We see Savage and Steamboat with some good tags. Spivey doesn’t quite look enthused to be here. When he gets in though - he makes Savage and Steamboat pay - dearly. Spivey has really come into his own but he knows what the game is all about and he tags in Haku. Around the 9-minute mark, we get Spivey and Savage outside of the ring battling. Inside the ring…  Haku turns and here comes Steamboat with a high cross body and then the 3-count!}

Spivey sees his opening and he tosses Savage into the ringpost and attacks Steamboat from behind! Spivey tosses Steamboat out of the ring and they’re on the podium. Spivey yells something at Flair and then he powerbombs Steamboat once again right in front of them! Officials and agents run out. Here’s Bock and now Spivey pushes him to the ground. Whatever they had going on must be done. Brisco escorts him to the back. Savage is hurt and busted but checks on Steamboat… Flair is checking on him while he and Savage then have a word. Fans this is going to be something to behold tomorrow night from Chicago… We’ll see you there live on Pay Per View!

Ric Flair walks in WCW and immediately enters the world title picture. Naturally.

I wasn't as disappointed as some others about Sherry signing the Nasty Boys but I have to admit, signing Bigelow would be the real game changer.

Looks like the Lucha experiment has just about petered out. Guess the WCW just wasn't ready.
