kevinmcfl Posted October 3 Author Report Posted October 3 Monday, September 29, 1990 *** The Steiners are still in Japan and this week we see a video tape of them successfully defend the USWA World Tag Team Titles against another “top” Japanese team in Tokyo. We also get a promo about how they are still searching for the Road Warriors as they can’t wait to show the Road Warriors who the best team in the World is. Remember, the Steiners took offense to the Road Warriors claiming that they were the best team and that the Steiners weren’t in their class. This led to the Steiners rushing over to Japan to take it to Animal and Hawk. So far, their search has not been very fruitful. Opener Sweet Brown Sugar defeats “The Professor” Bill Ash with the missile dropkick. This was just a bone thrown to SBW as he is going to be doing mostly jobs in the USWA but Jarrett loves his in ring work! 2-1 Handicap Match Michael Wallstreet with Ms. Alexandria York defeats Pez Whatley and Tim Horner in a handicap match as Wallstreet connected with the Airplane Spin/Samoan Drop combo on Whatley. This match came about this week on TV as Ms. York and her computer said that their wasn’t a man in the USWA that could beat him so in order to challenge Wallstreet, he needed to face two men at the same time. Usually handicap matches are saved for the huge monster heels but here it was to just show how deadly Wallstreet’s skills combined with computer “analytics” truly are. Match #3 The Dirty White Boys and The Southern Boys ended in a No Contest. The match was about 8 minutes in and was some great back and forth action when suddenly Animal and Hawk, The Road Warriors hit the ring and destroyed everything in sight. Both Dirty White Boys and both Southern Boys fell victim to huge clotheslines, powerslams and giant splashes with Dirty White Boy #2 taking the worst of it when he got nailed by the Doomsday Device! Animal and Hawk grabbed the house microphone and were screaming about “where are the Steiners… where are they!” Match #4 POW & Jeff Jarrett defeats “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert & Honky Tonk Man with Jimmy Hart and Missy Hyatt as POW nailed HTM with a top rope double leg drop. POW seemed more energetic then normal and was able to get his biggest win to date. Maybe it was working with JJ, but POW was on fire! USWA World TV Title Match “Stunning” Steve Austin © with Medusa defeats “The Tennessee Stud” Ron Fuller with the Nightstalker with the Stun Gun. The nearly 7’0, 300-pound beast, serving as Fuller’s bodyguard came into the ring to attack Austin but it was like Austin had eyes in the back of his head as he turned around just in time and grabbed the Nightstalker below the waist and dropped him neck first across the top rope. Fuller saw his chance and rushed at Austin but again, Austin turned just in time and connected with another Stun Gun. This match came about as Austin was defending his World TV Title in Smoky Mountain Wrestling against Kabuki when Fuller and the Nightstalker interrupted his match as Fuller claimed that he was the rightful owner of the TV title but Jerry Jarrett refused to give him his rightful title shot all because he wouldn’t wrestle on TV as he was too pretty for the fans at home. Steve Austin thought this was a joke and wondered how anyone who refused to wrestle on TV should be the TV champion. Fuller was confused as Austin’s confusing and challenged Austin to the match at the Midsouth Coliseum. USWA Southern Tag Team Match Tommy “Wildfire” Rich & JYD defeat Greg “The Hammer” Valentine & Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart” © with Jimmy Hart by DQ as Jimmy Hart pulled down the top rope causing JYD to fly over the top for the automatic DQ. JYD took a rather awkward bump and seemed to land on his head and was down and out. The champions saw this as their chance to attack Wildfire but The Rock n Roll Express were quick to make the save. The fans were fuming as the ring announcer said that as a result of the DQ, the Hammer and the Anvil retain their titles. #1 Contenders Match: Jerry “The King” Lawler vs Randy “Macho Man” Savage with Miss. Elizabeth This match came about from a rather serious disagreement between Lawler and Savage on last week’s TV show. Lawler seemed to be off the mindset that he was in line for another shot at Bossman and the USWA World Title even though he has lost the last two matches to Bossman in rather clean fashion. Savage believed that he was next in line because he was the USWA Southern Heavyweight Champion which he believed put him automatically in line for a world title shot. Savage added that he has also beaten Bossman while Lawler hasn’t come close! Lawler scoffed at Savage claiming to beat Bossman as it was only by DQ and after he cowardly threw Miss. Elizabeth in harms way. As for the match, this was easily the match of the night as these two went toe to toe for nearly 25 minutes before a rather strange ending saw Bossman come to ringside and hit Jerry Lawler in the back of the head while referee Paul Neighbors was down. Lawler had crashed into Neighbors as Savage had ducked under a Lawler shoulder block. Savage, saw this as his opportunity, rushed to the top rope and leaped off with the flying elbow and covered the King. Instead of making the count, a groggy Paul Neighbors called for the bell… Nobody knew what to expect … Ring Announcer: Your winner by disqualification due to outside interference… Jerry “The King” Lawler. Savage is fuming as he has no relationship with Bossman and didn’t want the help. Bossman seemed to have a smile on his face as he went to attack Lawler but from out of nowhere… WHAM…. Savage is all over Bossman! This brawl will take wrestlers from the back to eventually break up… all of this happening as Lawler simply rolled out of the ring as he is obviously a bit groggy!
LowBlowPodcast Posted October 3 Report Posted October 3 Man, this was just a really fun show start to finish. Sweet Brown Sugar kicked things off with a nice little win to get the crowd going, and the Wallstreet handicap deal was a cool way to show off the York Foundation stuff. The Road Warriors crashing the Southern Boys vs. Dirty White Boys match was crazy and just makes everyone want that big clash with the Steiners even more. POW teaming with Jarrett felt like his biggest moment yet—he really came alive in that one. Austin vs. Fuller was sharp too, with Austin looking like the man as he outsmarted both Fuller and the Nightstalker. The Southern Tag Title match had classic Memphis shenanigans with Jimmy Hart and then the Rock n Rolls running out to save the day. And then that main event? Lawler and Savage tore it up, Bossman stirred the pot, and it all ended in chaos that sets up a bunch of different stories. Just a super entertaining night that gave the fans plenty to talk about.
ErictheDragon Posted October 3 Report Posted October 3 Mixed night for SBS, wins the opener but goes down in the next match. The Steiner's search for the Road Warriors continues in Japan but the Roadies are in Memphis tearing shit up. POW fired up against the First Family. Austin turns back the challengers from Smoky Mountain. JYD takes a bad fall but the RnR make the save. Bossman costs Savage the main event and the Macho Man is NOT happy.
spaldoni Posted October 4 Report Posted October 4 Like Jarrett, I always enjoyed the work of SBS Very creative handicap match. The computer gimmick is great heat in this territory DAMN! The Road Warriors have arrived! I'm loving this build up! The eventual RWS/Steiners clash is going to be MONEY! POW was on one tonight. Austin's got so much momentum going. This was a huge night for him. Fuller's a territory legend and this really elevated Austin. Jimmy Hart just keeps finding ways for his team to hold on to the titles. I wonder if JYD is ok Crazy and puzzling ending to the main event. Looks like Bossman and Savage have a serious issue.
kevinmcfl Posted October 12 Author Report Posted October 12 Monday, October 6, 1990 **** Big development from this week’s TV show had a major impact on the upcoming card in the Midsouth Coliseum. Last week in the Coliseum we saw some chaos as far as the USWA World Title was concerned as Jerry “The King” Lawler battled it out with Randy “Macho Man” Savage and the winner would get the next World Title shot. In the middle of the match, Big Bossman, the World Champ hit the ring and attacked The King. This caused the ref to call for the bell and give Lawler the win by DQ. Savage was fuming as he said Bossman did this to avoid a match with him. It didn’t matter the Bossman claimed pure hatred of the King for his reason in getting involved, Savage wasn’t buying it and attacked Bossman leading to a huge brawl. That led to this week’s TV show where the fans were to get a huge treat as the World Title Match between the King and Bossman was the main event. Randy Savage, who was still fuming, wrestled a non-title squash match against Tim Horner just before the main event. Lance Russell took us to commercial break hyping up that the big title match was next. When we come back from break, Lance informs us of a developing situation as Randy Savage refused to leave the ring unless he was part of the main event. This went on with Savage holding true to his protest. Finally, both Jerry Jarrett and Eddie Marlin come to the ring and remind Savage about who the booker is and who the boss is and if he knows what’s good for him, he better leave the ring. Savage, starts flexing and giving us all a bunch of “oooh yeah’s” and telling Jarrett and Marlin that they are going to have to physically remove him from the ring but to watch out as Savage is feeling a little “frisky.” Jarrett tells Savage it is not him nor Eddie Marlin who will remove Save from the ring but it he looks over to the walkaway, he will see the Memphis police, who will not only remove him from the ring but the entire studio. Savage still doesn’t back down so the police do exactly what Jarrett promised as about a dozen men in blue take a fighting Savage out to the street as a camera man follows and sees the police block the door. Finally, we get the World Title Match as The King hits the ring followed by his manager, Jimmy Hart. We get only about a minute of the big match before Greg Valentine and Jim Neidhart hit the ring and attack the King. No problem… here comes the Rock n Roll Express and Jeff Jarrett… It’s a wild brawl when suddenly you here Lance Russell, “Oh good grief, how’d he get back in here.” Its Randy Savage and he is just as the name sounds… A Savage!!! Heel hitting heel, heel’s hitting babyfaces, babyfaces hitting babyfaces…. This one needs a second commercial break to restore order and when we do, it’s a fuming Jerry Jarrett who is angry that his main event was interrupted. He lets the fans know that the title match will know take place this week at the Mid-South Coliseum and that Randy Savage will be banned from the arena that evening. He also says he is tired of Jimmy Hart and all of his nonsense and that he will be banned from ringside during the match! And on to the coliseum Jeff Jarrett defeats “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff with the Running DDT. This match saw Mr. Wonderful try to piledrive JJ out on the concrete floor, the same move that put Superstar Bill Dundee out of action for a prolonged period, but JJ was able to reverse this move with the back body drop. This attempt to injure JJ fired him up and he lost all care for the rules as he followed up the back body drop by ramming Orndorf into the ring post and Mr. Wonderful was now showing some color. JJ rolled Orndorff onto the ring and he climbed to the top rope and come down with a nasty knee drop which he followed up the DDT. This was as aggressive as we have seen Jarrett in a long time. POW defeated Honky Tonk Man with Jimmy Hart and Missy Hyatt when he shocked HTM with an inside cradle as HTM had him set up for the Shake Rattle and Roll. This match was signed as a result of last week’s tag match where POW had pinned HTM during a tag match. HTM was furious this week on TV and said that it was a fluke and could never happen again… Don’t Speak too soon HTM. It seems POW has some an ax to grind against HTM as it is obvious that POW seems to really get fired up against HTM. Junkyard Dog defeats Dirty White Boy #1 with a big Thump. (Powerslam) Not much to say here except this was a fun brawl if that is what you like! … and we all do. Michael Wallstreet with Ms. Alexandria York defeating “Southern Boy” Tracy Smothers with the Airplane Spin/Samoan Drop combo. Again, Ms. York with her computer-generated scouting report and Wallstreet’s ability where just too much for Smothers. Eddie Gilbert with Jimmy Hart & Missy Hyatt defeated “Wildfire” Tommy Rich when Missy nailed Tommy with the loaded Gucci purse while referee Jerry Neighbors was admonishing Jimmy Hart who was looking for the megaphone shot on Wildfire. The 3-1 nonsense was just too much for Wildfire to overcome. USWA World Television Title Match Stunning Steve Austin © defeated the Nightstalker with the Stun Gun. This match was set up after last week when the Nightstalker, who serves as Ron Fuller’s bodyguard, interfered in the Fuller-Austin match. On this week’s TV show, Austin was quite smug about how easy it was to beat bigger men as they basically decapitate themselves when he nails them with the Stun Gun… Well so far in the USWA, everything Austin has said has come true as he has yet to go down in defeat and the Nightstalker did nearly decapitate himself as the 300 pounder was dropped neck first across the top rope. The Road Warriors defeated Southern Justice (Shanghai Pierce and Tex Slazenger) with Wild Bill Irwin as Animal and Hawk crushed the two big men in under 5 minutes as they beat them from pillar to post with the end coming after a Doomsday Device on Pierce… After the match, Animal grabbed Irwin by his neck and lifted over the ropes only to have Hawk connect with a running lariat on Irwin that set him back over the top rope and out onto the floor. What a bump by Irwin!! The Steiners might still be in Japan but they better re-enforce the ring for these two teams when they finally do meet. USWA Southern Tag Team Title Match: No DQ Greg “The Hammer” Valentine & Jim “The Avil” Neidhart © w/ Jimmy Hart vs The Rock n Roll Express These two teams have battled it out in all types of matches over the past month but every time the title is on the line, the champs conveniently seem to find a way to cause a DQ. Whether it is simply getting counted out or outside interference, Hart has managed to keep the title around the waist of his men. Last week, it was the Rock n Roll Express who rushed in to make the save as Hart and his megaphone helped his men put down Tommy Rich and JYD. This week, it appears to be much the same as the Express have controlled a lot of the match but it is Jimmy Hart up on the apron with the megaphone during a 4-way melee. Neidhart is about to whip Ricky Morton into the corner. Jimmy Hart is antagonizing the crowd and waving his megaphone in the hair while he is giving them that big, annoying laugh. Morton reverses the whip and its Neidhart who comes crashing in… Jimmy Hart feels the thud of a man hitting the corner… thinking it is Morton… he turns and cracks Neidhart over the head with the megaphone. WHAM… Morton and Gibson quickly nail Valentine with a Double Drop Kick and he goes flying to the floor. Irish Whip of Morton by Gibson… Morton leap frogs Gibson… Somehow, Morton turns the leap from into a Giant Splash on a staggered Neidhart…. 1…2….3! We have new champs…. As the Rock n Roll Express celebrate, A frustrated Jimmy Hart is verbally taking it out on Jim Neidhart. Finally, Hart shoves Neidhart in anger but this time, the Anvil shoves back and Jimmy Hart goes flying. WHAM… From behind, Valentine attacks Neidhart! The crowd is loving this as anytime The First Family is fighting with themselves; it is good for the good guy. Eventually, Valentine helps Jimmy Hart to the back while Neidhart is left to regroup and limp to the back. Main Event: USWA World Title Match: Please read the top to see how we got here. Big Bossman © vs Jerry “The King” Lawler” with Jimmy Hart banned from ringside Whether Bossman attacked Lawler to prevent Macho Man from getting this title shot is irrelevant. The King is ready to capitalize on his good fortune and takes control early. Give Bossman his credit… there is no backing down from the big hoss. He is ready to take Lawler’s best shot and leave here with his title! At about the 10 minute mark, we see Eddie Gilbert rushing the ring but it is JJ rushing after him. Gilbert was intent on making sure the First Family didn’t loose two titles on the same night but JJ wants justice to prevail… these two really are brawling all over the places, but the title match goes on! Here comes Greg “The Hammer” Valentine but he barely gets on the ramp to the ring before The Anvil attacks him. Protecting Lawler and the integrity of the World Title completes Jim Neidharts babyface turn. Jimmy Hart is still in the back pulling the strings and here comes Honky Tonk Man but JJ and POW take care of him. It is almost like the babyfaces knew what was coming. Wait… What’s this… A masked man, wearing sunglasses and a bandana quickly climbs the top rope and comes off with a flying elbow to the back of the head of Bossman. The ref immediately calls for the bell but the masked man doesn’t care and somehow rips the belt off of ref Jerry Calhoun. The Masked Man is now whipping anyone in his site…. The World Champion… Jerry Lawler… Jerry Calhoun…. They will all have the welts to prove to anyone in doubt… wrestling in not Sports Entertainment but 100% real. The fans may have been cheated out of a World Title Match but they will never forget the night Macho M…. I mean a masked man hit the ring and whipped everything in his site.
ErictheDragon Posted October 12 Report Posted October 12 Savage was so fired up he ruined the TV main event. Jarrett is so upset he bans him from the big Monday show. Orndorff makes a big mistake going for the concrete pile-driver on Double J. POW really seems to have it out for Honky. JYD looking strong. York's computer continues to pay off. The First Family douses some Wildfire. Austin stuns the Nightstalker. The Roadies arrive in style by thrashing Southern Justice. A tag title loss sees Neidhart getting the boot from the Family. That masked macho man certainly made an impression in what was clearly his first time in Memphis.
kevinmcfl Posted yesterday at 01:30 AM Author Report Posted yesterday at 01:30 AM Batman (Ken Patera) vs Joker (Don Bass) (Just a silly opener to get the fans in the Halloween Spirit! Mask vs Signed Guitar POW vs Honky Tonk Man with Jimmy Hart How we got here The upstart POW recently pinned HTM in a match where POW seemed especially motivated. This seems to be a trend anytime that POW is near HTM as it seems very personal. After the loss, HTM was fuming as he believed he knows who is under the Mask and that he is going to be the one to show to everyone that POW is not who the fans think he is which is a former Prisoner of War and that his camouflaged masked is just a farce. To get the stipulation that if POW losses the match, he will have to take off his mask, HTM agreed to put his Elvis Pressley signed guitar on the line. Jeff Jarrett vs The Great Kabuki How did we get here: The Great Kabuki recently arrived in the USWA and has been spewing his green mist in the eyes of many of his victims and JJ took offense we he recently did it to Tim Horner. JJ, with some power in the USWA offices, was able to get this match signed. On thing of note, Kabuki, who doesn’t speak English has been in the USWA for a few weeks now and doesn’t have a manager so nobody knows what he is doing or thinking. All we know is that wins don’t seem to matter much as he seems intent on blinding his victim. USWA Southern Tag Team Title Match The Rock n Roll Express © vs The Dirty White Boys How we got here: No real storyline here. DWB’s have been on a bit of a win streak; outside of when the face the Road Warriors, so they appear next in line for the title shot. Tennessee Street Fight “Wildfire” Tommy Rich, JYD & The Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant vs Southern Justice (Tex Slazenger and ) & Wild Bill Irwin How we got here: Wildfire, JYD and Valiant recently had to rush to the ring to help the Southern Boys who were basically being hanged over the top rope by Southern Justice and their manager, Wild Bill Irwin. This is not the first time that Southern Justice has resorted to extreme violence against Steve Armstrong and Tracy Smothers but this time they put them out of action for a little while. Wildfire, JYD and Boogie Woogie Man gave one hell of a fired up promo about what they are going to do to Southern Justice. “Stunning” Steve Austin with Medusa vs Michael Wallstreet with Miss. Alexandra York How we got here: Week after week, Miss York and her computer have been spitting out information that with her computer skills and prepared scouting reports along with Michael Wallstreet’s money and wrestling ability, there wasn’t a man in the USWA that could beat Michael. Well this week, Stunning Steve interrupted their glowing promo and said that his doesn’t care what the computer says and that if Wallstreet had the guts, he would give him a good old fashion beating. Miss York quickly started typing on the computer and then we hear all kinds of crazy sounds coming out of the computer. Miss. York reads it… and shakes her head yes… and the match is on between two wrestlers who have never lost in the USWA. First Blood Match “The Anvil” Jim Neidhart vs “The Hammer” Greg Valentine with Jimmy Hart How we got here: When The Hammer and the Anvil recently lost the USWA Southern Tag Team Titles to the Rock n Roll Express when Jimmy Hart cracked the Anvil with the megaphone by accident, Hart blamed the Anvil. The Anvil turned on Hart after being berated. Valentine, siding with his manager attacked his tag team partner. So here we are and what better way to have a grudge match on Halloween then to make it a First Blood Match. USWA World Tag Team Title Match The Steiner Brothers © vs The Road Warriors How did we get here: While these two teams have not actually been in the same place at the same time, they have been after each other for months. The Road Warriors, while wrestling in a different promotion, took offense to the Steiners claiming to be the best tag team in the world. Animal and Hawk sent a video tape to the USWA basically calling out the Steiner brothers and their “ridiculous” claim. This video tape sent the Steiners off the deep end and wanting a piece of the Road Warriors. A few weeks later, we find out that the Road Warriors are in Japan where they sent another video to the USWA where they once against proclaimed their dominance. Enraged, the Steiners headed to Japan where they bashed a bunch of Japanese guys to the ground but they never found the Warriors who had come back to the USWA in search of the Steiners. So finally, tonight… these two mega teams will finally square off face to face. Lights Out – Non-Sanctioned-Non-Title- Texas Tornado- Country Whipping Match USWA Champion Bossman vs “The King” Jerry Lawler vs Randy “Macho Man” Savage How we got here: Randy Savage has recently taken offense to not getting World Title shots against Bossman which he believes are rightfully his as the USWA Southern Champion. He also believes that Bossman has gone out of his way to make sure Lawler gets the title shot and not him. Recently, we have seen Bossman attack Lawler in The King’s #1 contender matches against Savage. These attacks have caused numerous DQ’s on Savage as the ref deemed that it was Bossman helping Savage thus giving the King the win and the title shots. Savage claims that Bossman is only doing this to prevent him from beating Lawler and getting the title shots. Bossman, claims that the attacks are cause of a grudge he holds against Lawler, the former USWA World Champion who Bossman was originally hired to protect but Bossman felt that the King avoided giving him title shots even though he defeated everyone that Lawler beat. Seems like a bit of a circus but that only got worse recently as Macho Man came out wearing a mask during Lawler’s title match against Bossman in the Midsouth Coliseum. While it was the worst costume ever as it was obviously Randy Savage, this just made matter worse as Savage ripped the belt off the referee and starting whipping both the Bossman and the King. While Savage was fined and suspended for his actions, Lawler and the Bossman were fuming about being whipped and wanted revenge. So here we are… Bossman vs The King vs Macho Man with each allowed to bring a leather strap to the match and all three men will be in the ring at the same time. One thing is for certain… there will be welts as these three men hate each other. Forget babyfaces and heels in this one… each man is coming for the other two. USWA officials feared for the worst and refused to sanction this match but once the lights go down, the whipping will begin.
ErictheDragon Posted yesterday at 04:58 AM Report Posted yesterday at 04:58 AM Great card for Halloween. Starts fun with Batman V Joker then getting steadily more violent as we get deeper in. Steiners V Road Warriors. it's finally on!
