I always liked writing for Keirn as a singles wrestler. He's right at home in Memphis.

Not sure who the Executioners are, but they quickly make their presence known.

Well, DWB's name says it all as he retains against Armstrong.

Huge swerve as Buddy Jack shows up and sides with the Stud Stable!! Nice spin.

Tonight's win over Dutch gets Jarrett more over with the fans.

NO WAY! Jimmy Hart is back in Memphis!!! Not only that but he brings along HTM and Valentine! The First Family is back and so is Memphis wrestling!!

October 21, 1989

I thought I would do another Coliseum show or two before my next TV show as I am trying to introduce my roster to the readers while also acting like many of these wrestlers have been in Memphis for a few months already.

October 14, 1989

Rip Rogers vs JT Southern

“The Hustler” Rip Rogers continues his whole gimmick of searching for a new valet in the audience before finally giving up because all of the females in Memphis are just too ugly.  While the fans are upset at Rogers, JT Southern kind of turned to the fans asking “who does this guy think he is.”  This was all the advantage that Rip needed as he Pearl Harbored Southern before the bell.  JT tried his best to change the momentum but to no avail.  Rogers got the win in 6 minutes with the Ripperplex (Superplex) being the finisher.

Tarzan Goto with Tojo Yamamoto vs Tim Horner

Let’s just say that the first two matches were all heels.  “White Lightening” tried his best to fight off the big wrestler from Japan, but it was like a mosquito attacking an elephant.  The 350-pound Goto finished off Horner with a Giant Splash which followed up his huge powerslam.  Most people who say this wondered how Tim Horner could survive this.

If this was not enough, Tojo came into the ring after the bout was over and gave Horner 3 huge blows with his bamboo cane. Then Tojo took the house microphone and addressed Lance Rusell who was not even in the building.

Tojo:  Mista Lance Russell… you will pay me and ta country of Japan, ta respect we deserve.  If not… this might be you laying in ta ring after we beat you, within inch of your life.

This sermon by Tojo seems to be in response to Tarzan Goto’s last match where similar dirty tactics where used in his match against Mike Jackson and when Tojo asked Lance what he thought of his great wrestler, Lance replied he thought his behavior was disgusting. Immediately Tojo demanded respect but to Lance’s credit, he did not back down no matter how much Tojo and Tarzan got in his face.

Eric Embry vs Killer Brooks

Eric Embry has been like a house a fire since arriving in Memphis back in August.  He might not be the biggest man in the organization, but he won’t back down from anyone and is willing to fight for what he thinks is right.  This bulldog mentality has endeared him to the Memphis fans, and they are behind him 100% tonight as he faces one of the dirtiest men in the game.

Embry is able to match Brooks blow for blow tonight and to the delight of the crowd, he gets the win with the piledriver.

The Guerreros (Hector & Chavo) vs The Young Guns (Sam Houston & Kendall Windham)

This is the first bout for the Guerreros in Memphis, and they don’t waste a second getting some serious heat as they antagonize each and every fan on their way to the ring.  For the most part, this is a pretty technical match with the Guerreros doing some high-flying action while Windham and Houston seem content to slow down the team from Mexico with a bunch of arm bars, head scissors and other grappling moves.

In the end, we see Chavo get in the face of Jerry Calhoun which allowed Hector the time to hit a low blow on Windham and then lock him in the Gory Clutch and with a grab of the tights, the Guerreros get the win.

Hector and Chavo are gloating all around the ring giving the title belt sign as they exit.

Dutch Mantel vs Brad Armstrong

This one ended in a double-count out as both men fought all over the arena floor.  Again Dutch went for the bull whip but Brad caught him with a running knee to the gut before Dutch could “crack” the whip.  Brad saw the Bull Whip on the floor and simply picked it up and walked away with it.

Tri-State Title Match

The Dirty White Boy © vs Chief Joe Lightfoot

The Dirty White Boy defeated Lightfoot with the Bucksnort Blaster (powerslam) but, again the problem this weak was his use of the loaded forearm.  The crowd tried their best to alert the ref but each time he asked the DWB, the DWB vehemently denied the accusation.

Grudge Match

If the First Family wins, Eddie Gilbert gets a Southern Heavyweight Title Match

“Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine & Honk Tonk Man w/h Jimmy Hart & Missy Hyatt

Vs

Jeff Jarrett, “The Fab One Steve Kerin and ???

This one needs a little background first.  We all saw the return of the First Family last week in the Coliseum and the damage they all did to “The King” when they attacked him 4 on 1.  Well this week on TV, Eddie Marlin did inform the fans that there was some good news as Lawler did not break his leg but he will still need a few weeks to recover.  Jeff Jarrett and Steve Keirn talked with Lance Russell and they expressed how angry they were.  They were not angry with Jimmy Hart as everyone knows what a coward he is and by hiding under the ring, he just proved that to anyone who didn’t already know it.  They were not angry with Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine as they are obviously jealous of Jerry Lawler and they knew the only way they could beat him was to attack him with their gang mentality.  JJ and Keirn also admitted that they weren’t even angry with Eddie Gilbert as everyone already knew that he is just a snake in the grass.

Lance finally asked JJ and Keirn if they were mad at anyone, and they both admitted that they were mad at themselves.  They were mad that they didn’t expect the unexpected from the Snake Eddie Gilbert.  They were mad at themselves for not getting there sooner to help Jerry Lawler and they were mad at themselves for not following Hart and the First Family into the parking lot and gave them the beating they deserved.

Lance Russell completely understood and asked them what their next move was.  JJ said that they wanted all three, Gilbert, the HTM and Valentine, in the ring this week in the Coliseum if the “First Family” had the guts.  This quickly brought out Hart and his men.

Jimmy Hart:  HAHAHA, Lance Russell… Never say Never Baby. Jimmy Hart and The First Family are back in Memphis and on the first day we brought the King and his Kingdom to his knees.  Now we are here to save Memphis Wrestling and by the looks of it you need… what are there?  Forty or fifty people in the audience tonight and I bet they all got in for free.

Lance Russell:  C’mon Jimmy.  That’ll be enough of that.

Jimmy Hart:  I’ll tell you what we’ve had enough of and that’s these two pretty boys standing with you. Jeff Jarrett… Steve Keirn… you two stand out here and say your mad?  I’ll tell you who you should be mad and that’s your mother baby… she raised two of the worst friends in all the world.  You two cowards watched us beat Lawler from pillar to post and you two were so scared you let us take your buddy to the old woodshed.  Oh man, with friends like you two, who needs enemies.

Jeff Jarrett:  Does that mean you agree to meet us in the Coliseum this Monday.

Eddie Gilbert:  We’ll make a deal with you two, when we beat you, I get my Southern Heavyweight Title rematch which you have been avoiding ever since you stole my title.

JJ pulls out a piece of paper and a pen and scribbles something on the paper.

JJ:  There you go Eddie.  If you guys sign this contract and beat us in the Midsouth Coliseum this Monday, you, Mr. Gilbert, will get your rematch.

All 3 members of the Hart Foundation sign the contract.

Jimmy Hart:  Oh baby…. The people down here are even dumber than I remember.  This is like taking candy from a baby!  The three members of the Hart Foundation vs you two wanna be rock stars.  It took my like a week to get gold around the waist of the First Family.

Steve Keirn:  Us two?  You mean us 3!

JJ and Keirn start to smile as Jimmy Hart snatches back the paper and takes a closer look.

Jimmy Hart:  No… No… No…. You two lied!

Gilbert, HTM and Valentine all look confused.

JJ:  That’s right Jimmy.  It seems that certain people up North hated you just as much as we do down here in Memphis.

Suddenly, from behind…. It’s the Texas Tornado Kerry VonErich who attacks the First Family and we have a great TV Brawl!

Now, for the match in the Coliseum.

BRAWL… BRAWL… BRAWL!  The problem as usual was Jimmy Hart who could not stop himself from sticking his nose in the match.  The only thing is that you never no exactly who benefits.  This time Hart rushed to the ring with a chair when he thought Ref Jerry Calhoun was not looking and he nailed Kerry VonErich with the chair shot.

This time, the chair shot backfired on Jimmy Hart.  First, Jerry Calhoun saw the attack and disqualified the First Family.  Next, unluck the chair shot that hit Lawler on the head, this one hit VonErich on the back and he completely “No Sold” the hit.

Kerry turned, wound up and hit Jimmy Hart with a huge Texas Tornado Discus Punch that sent Hart flying through the ropes.  The fan favorites now pounded the First Family from pillar to post and by the end, they were in-charge of the ring with the First Family on the floor, limping back to the locker room with Jimmy Hart walking in circles as he had no idea which way was up!

MAIN EVENT

Southern Tag Title Match

“The Studd Stable” Robert Fuller & Sid Eudy vs The Freebirds

A quick background here also.  First, last week in the Midsouth Coliseum, we saw the surprise return of Buddy Roberts who shocked us even more when he jumped off the top rope and nailed Michael Hayes.

This week on TV, Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin came out to talk to Lance Russell.  Lance wanted to know why Buddy Roberts did what he did.

Michael Hayes:  (A very angry Hayes)  For those of you who know about the history of professional wrestling and the history of the Freebirds, you know that we are a family.  Sometimes families fight with each other, but nobody ever gets between family members.  Some of the best wars I ever had were with my brother, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy but that was between Terry and myself.  Buddy Roberts … what you did last Monday is the worst thing that has ever been done to me in my life.  You abandoned “the family” and sided with Robert Fuller over me.  Ya see… I would have had no problem if you told me to meet you in a back alley and we fight like cats and dogs… I would have no problem if you came to me and said “Michel,” I hate your guts and lets settle this in a steel cage.  But NO… you took the cowards way out.  You Pearl Harbored me and laughed all the way to the locker room with that low life copperhead!  Now listen closely Buddy Roberts, you should know this better than anyone.  Anytime that the Freebirds have been attacked, they have come out on top.  Well, I am still a Freebird … and you are anything but.  So you just wait and see, the Freebirds will come out on top again.

Suddenly, Buddy Roberts came out and Lance begged for decorum.

Buddy Roberts:  Michael Hayes… you have always talked about family.  You say, “Once a Freebird, always a Freebird.”  Well, listen up Hayes and listen good.  You’re a liar.  Where’s Terry?  Last I heard, you tossed him out of the Freebirds and now he is out there on the west coast somewhere.  When you told me I wasn’t a member of the Freebirds anymore, you didn’t have the guts to tell me face to face.  You sent a letter to my house. And look who you tossed Terry and me aside for.  Jimmy “Goofy” Garvin.  So, you ask why to I join the Studd Stable for?  Why did I attack you last Monday? … The answer is simple.  I had no choice.

Michael Hayes:  Buddy… I called you time and time again.  I told you to show up for a match in this place and that place, but you never showed up.  I sent you a letter because you went AWOL!  So, who quit on who?  You quit on me.  In fact,… the only thing you haven’t quit on is the bottle … you DRUNK!

Suddenly it looks like this is all going to blow up into a brawl, but Eddie Marlin comes out and demands that everyone listen.  First, he doesn’t care who is at fault here, but the fact is simple.  Buddy Roberts currently doesn’t work for the CWA.  He is not a licensed wrestler or licensed manager. Eddie goes on to say that out of respect for his career, he did not have Buddy Roberts arrested last Monday night but if it happens again, he will have no choice but to contact the authorities.  He tells Buddy to leave now, file the proper paperwork and he will bring it to the board at their next monthly meeting.

Buddy seems ready to argue but Eddie warns him not to speak and leave.  Buddy does walk off and Micheal just gloats the entire time.  Eddie Marlin goes on to explain that as a result of Buddy Robert’s interference last week, he has granted a rematch to the Freebirds for this Monday night in the Midsouth Coliseum against the Studd Stable for the Southern Tag Team Titles.

As for the match in the Coliseum, it is very similar to last week with a lot if dirty tactics and momentum changes.  It looked like this could go either way when suddenly Jimmy Garvin connected with a powerbomb on Robert Fuller.  This occurred while Hayes and Eudy tumbled outside and had their own brawl going on.  Before we get the pin attempt, a man in a rebel masked rushed from the audience and attacked Garvin.

Jerry Calhoun called for the bell and this one ends with the Studd Stable retaining their title by DQ.  Everyone in the audience swore it was Buddy Roberts.

Rogers is a surefire heat getter.

I am weirdly hyped for a Russell/Tojo feud.

I feel like Embry has mostly been a heel in the game but I've seen him in World Class so I know he's got what it takes to be a face.

Los Guerreros with a successful debut.

Call the cops, Brad just kidnapped Shoo Baby!

The DWB's loaded forearm strikes again.

Smart of Jeff & Keirn to bring in the Texas Tornado to take on the First Family.

Things got heated between Hayes and Roberts real quick. Gee I wonder who that masked man was?

You can always count on Rogers to get the fans riled up right away.

Goto looks like a beast, which is the perfect way to build him up again. I always loved Lance bantering with the heels. This should be a fun little side feud with Tojo.

You did a great job getting Embry over as a fired up babyface.

After a year long reign as AWA tag champs, the Guerreros are looking for gold once again.

Armstrong steals shoo baby and now we've got a full on feud.

I'm liking DWB's gimmick here.

Awesome job hyping the main event. Kerry Von Erich has arrived too even things up! With Lawler out for a while, Kerry will have no problem filling in on the main events. After what happened, I'm sure Hart will have a plan.

Both Hayes and Buddy tell their sides. Get ready because a Freebird civil war has started!

4 CORNER ELIMINATION MATCH

Freddy Krueger (Doug Sommers)  vs Darth Vader (Tim Horner)  vs

Beetlejuice (Tim Brooks)  vs Michael Myers (Mean Mike Miller)

Halloween in the Mid-South Coliseum is going to be spooky from beginning to end.  On this week’s TV show, Lance Russell told everyone in the crowd to come to the matches in their favorite costume.  We do see many dressed like the wrestlers in the ring but we also see a lot of Batman costumes, Joker costumes, Elvis costumes along with many kids in their football uniforms and cheerleading uniforms.  We also see a few couples came as Tammy Faye and Jim Baker.  Lastly, the cameraman can’t seem to get his camera off a well-endowed lady in her Elvira costume.

254Gfqb.png

This match is Memphis’ idea of a true comedy match, and the fans seemed to enjoy the opening act that saw Freddy Krueger defeat Michael Myers with, as the ring announcer put it, the Ghost Buster Slam!

As the others characters left the arena, Freddy Krueger took bags of candy and went around to all the kids in the audience giving candy to the children.  We would see Freddy throughout the night repeating this version of trick or treating.

Tarzan Goto with Tojo Yamamota vs JT Southern

pE0nnVZ.png

Once again this week, Tojo threatened Lance Russell with physical harm this week if he didn’t show him the proper respect.  It seemed it was only due to Eddie Marlin coming out to threaten Tojo and Tarzan Goto with a long suspension if they didn’t leave the podium immediately that saved Lance.    As for this match, Goto continued to run roughshod over everyone that stood in his way.  This beating left TJ needing medical attention after numerous Big Splashes from the nearly 375-pounder.

Rip Rogers vs Eric Embry

KYgs4sk.png

This match starts with Rip doing his whole “search for a new valet” gimmick while Eric Embry just shakes his head.  After spanning the crowd with his eyes, Rip starts his whole “this is the ugliest audience I have ever seen” routine and adds “thank God its Halloween and many of you have covered your faces.”  As he turns one more time, Rip seems to tilt his head a bit with a surprised look on his face.  “Now hold on just a minute. Look at this beautiful lady. Come on up her darling.”  Suddenly the lady in the Elvira costume stands and smiles and heads up to the ring.  She seems very interested in Rip and his physique and “charisma.”  After a little back and forth, Elvira agrees to stay ringside and get a closer look at the greatness of Rip Rogers!

As the match starts, Embry can’t help but laugh!  The problem was that Elvira seems to have fired up The Hustler as he wants to impress his new lady.  Rip is pulling put every dirty trick in the book while also mixing in some big power moves to impress his “lady.”   Don’t take anything away from Embry who is more than ready for a fight.

In the end, Embry has fought his way all the way back and looks to be setting up for the piledriver.  The problem was that Elvira seems to want to help her new man and jumps up on the apron and distracts ref Jerry Calhoun with her “ample assets.”

Embry is very frustrated and comes over to get Jerry Calhoun refocused.

WHAM… Low blow by “The Hustler” and down goes Embry.

Rip Rogers quickly follows up with the Ripperplex (Superplex) and he gets the three count for the win.

Rip and Elvira leave together as both have huge smiles on their faces!

Tri-State Title Match

The Dirty White Boy © vs Kendall Windham

The more things change, the more they stay the same.  Each week we see the DWB face another opponent and each week he cheats his way to another title defense.  This week was no different.  While Kendall had the momentum for a large portion of the match, the Dirty White Boy was able to load that forearm brace and clobber Windham.  The Dirty White Boy then connected with the Bucksnort Blaster for the win.  He snatched his title from the ref and berated the fans on his way back to the locker room.

Bullwhip on a Pole Match

Dutch Mantel vs Brad Armstrong

twZt4Bs.png

This match is a result of Brad Armstrong walking out of the Midsouth Coliseum last week with Dutch’s bull whip.  When “Dirty Dutch” claimed that this bull whip has been in his family for generations and if Brad didn’t give it back, he would get the lawyers involved.  Brad told him to come to the Coliseum this week and take his bull whip back like a man.  Dutch eagerly excepted as he was excited to whip an Armstrong.

ALzdJYl.png?2

Unfortunately, Dutch’s plan didn’t work out as Brad was able to use his athleticism and capture the whip and get the win.  Unfortunately for Brad, he didn’t use the whip right away and was leaving the ring when he was Pearl Harbored by Dutch.  The Dirty One picked up the whip and just missed Brad as the whip cracked against the arena floor as Brad exited to safety.

Grudge Match

Steve Keirn & Jeff Jarrett vs Greg “The Hammer” Valentine & Honky Tonk Man with Jimmy Hart

fptIiwV.png

Wild match here that saw Steve Keirn and JJ get the win by DQ as Jimmy Hart crushed HTM’s guitar over the head of Steve Keirn.

Southern Tag Team Title Match in a Steel Cage- NO DQ

phywyeN.png

The Studd Stable (Robert Fuller & Sid Eudy) with Woman vs The Freebirds (Hayes & Garvin)

Prior to the match, all the characters from the first match came out and distributed more candy as the arena staff built the steel cage.

One stipulation was that both Buddy Roberts and The Rebel were banned from the arena.  Eddie Marlin came out this week on TV and said that he was getting tired of the interference by the Studd Stable and Buddy Roberts in their title defenses against the Freebirds.  Robert Fuller and Sid Eudy were upset as they claimed that they had nothing to do with the Rebel attacking the Freebirds last week in the Coliseum.  They said that this just goes to show you how many enemies the Freebirds really have and that they have pulled the wool over the fan’s eyes for years..  Buddy Roberts even had the audacity to claim that he was not the Rebel.  Lance Russell and Eddie Marlin didn’t buy this for second and made sure that he banned both from the arena.

As for the match, we get your typical cage match with a lot of blood and violence.  Remember though, this is Memphis where things might start in typical fashion but always seems to end in chaos.  Tonight, it seems that the Studd Stable were going to successfully defend their titles as their size and power lead to them controlling much of the action inside of the cage.  During a moment that sees all four wrestlers in the ring, we get a bit of Déjà vu from a few weeks ago when Buddy Roberts came from under the ring and attacked Michael Hayes.  Only this wasn’t Buddy from under the ring; it was long time Studd Stable member Jimmy Golden who seems to have a pair of brass knucks on his fist.

pTNV9aH.png?1

The Freebirds see the problem and back into the corners as the Studd Stable close in.

WHAM… from behind… Jimmy Golden nails SID EUDY!

The fans go wild as Sid face plants and is out cold.  Robert Fuller is SHOCKED!

Jimmy Golden just smiles at his cousin.

WHAM… Golden with a boot to the ribs of Fuller.

WHAM….  Jimmy Garvin with a brainbuster and covers Fuller!

Ref Jerry Calhoun comes in and makes the three count!

The ring announcer announces the Freebirds as the new Southern Tag Team Champs and Jimmy Golden gives one last kick to Fuller as Garvin, Hayes and Golden walk off to a loud ovation.

Main Event

Barbed Wire Match

Jerry “The King” Lawler vs “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert with Jimmy Hart & Missy Hyatt

H56moLB.jpg?1

Again, more candy to the kids by Freedy Kruger and company as the ring is quickly converted from a cage match to a Barbed Wire Match!.

As for the match, this is even more brutal than the cage match that we just witnessed.  The problem for the King was that he might have been goated into this match by Gilbert and Jimmy Hart.  The doctors warned Lawler that he was not healed from the attack by the First Family a few weeks ago and that he should not get into the ring.

nuanhcs.jpg

Hart and Gilbert called Lawler everything they could think of and even gave him a chicken costume to wear on Halloween.  Lawler just had enough and accepted the challenge.

Lawler’s adrenaline got him off to a quick start but one reversal by Hot Stuff sent Lawler rolling in pain as he hit the barbed wire.  From here on out, Gilbert was in control.  Missy Hyatt even got into the action as she gave the King a huge, embarrassing smack.

It was obvious that the crowd was nervous as they even started to reject the candy from the ghouls giving out the treats.  Freddy Kruger is heading off to the locker room when he stops… turns…. And starts to come back to the ring.  He shuffles towards Jimmy Hart who at first shooed him away, but Kruger keeps coming closer.  Hart is back peddling towards the ring post while Kruger keeps coming.

sGiBryV.jpg?2

WHAT WAS THAT…. OH MY GOD…. FREDDY KRUGER HAS JUST THROWN A FIREBALL IN THE FACE OF JIMMY HART!  HART IS ROLLONG IN AGONY AS KRUGER SHULLFES AWAY.

Two things happened pretty quickly…

First, the camera man who had a great shot of the fireball shows a shot of Freedy Kruger rushing towards the locker room and it appears that there are a few strands of curly, blonde hair sticking through the costume.

Second, the fire ball distracted Eddie Gilbert just enough, that a bloody King Lawler was able to shove him into the barbes wire and then connect with a bodyslam before following it up with a piledriver for the win!

The fans leave the Midsouth Coliseum elated while a few could be heard wondering who Freddy Kruger was.  One thing for sure is that Halloween seemed to be a trick on the First Family while Lawler was given the treat.

Love the four way match with the horror characters.

Goto is on a rampage as Papa-san ratchets up the hostilities with Russell.

Rogers finally finds himself a lady. And not just any lady but the Mistress of the night!

Another week, another dirty DWB defense.

Brad may have won but what's important is Dutch got Shook Baby back.

Hart got the First Family DQ'd but Keirn ain't looking like a winner.

First Roberts turns on his brothers and now Golden turns on his cousin? Family loyalty don't mean shit in Memphis!

Jimmy wasn't ready for Freddy!

Loved the Halloween theme tonight. So fitting for Memphis, especially the gimmick match to start things off.

Goto is a beast!!!! The Tojo/Lance side story is great stuff.

Figures on Halloween, Rogers would find his valet. I'm sure Embry will be back for more.

DWB is having a fun run as Tri champ.

Well, Brad wins the match but Dutch ends up with shoo baby. That sounds about right.

Probably not the way Keirn and JJ wanted to win the match. I really like how you're using the team of HTM and Valentine.

Oh man! The twists and turns continue! First the Roberts turn and now Golden turns. This story keeps getting better!

Damn! I wonder who Freddy was??? Whoever it is, he sure hates Jimmy Hart. Lawler ends Halloween on a high note.

Great stuff Kev! Every week is must see.

Week of November 11, 1989

Huge Announcement on the Future of Memphis Wrestling!

This week’s show begins with Jerry Jarrett making a huge announcement.
Jerry Jarrett:  Fans, I want to start by saying just how excited I am to be with you today.  I have the pleasure and the privilege of making the most historic announcements in Championship Wrestling history.  You, fans of the CWA, are well aware of the great talent this promotion has brought to the Memphis area over the past several decades.  Well now, we will be able to bring you even greater talent as two great wrestling promotions have come together for the decade of the 90’s.  I’m talking about a merger.  A merger between the CWA and all of its great stars with the UWF, another great Southern wrestling company.  Together, we are forming the United States Wrestling Association.  Boy, there can’t be anything more exciting then this merger between two great wrestling companies.   We will now be able to bring in even greater talent then we already have and our wrestlers in the CWA will now be able to showcase their talent all over the southern part of the United States.  Just imagine Jerry “The King” Lawler in the Superdome in New Orleans or the great USWA tag team of Hacksaw Butch Reed and Ron Simmons coming to the Mid-South Coliseum.  With such a plethora of talent, the possibilities are endless.  To kick of this great merger, we are going to have an inter-promotional event tittled WrestleWar on Thanksgiving Night right here in the Midsouth Coliseum.  The biggest stars from the USWA will square of with the biggest stars of the CWA!

So Who Threw The Fireball at Jimmy Hart?
On this week’s show, we see Lance Russell talking about the main event from the Mid-South Coliseum where Jerry “The King” Lawler defeated “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert in a Barbed Wire Match as someone dressed in a Freedy Kruger costume came out and threw a fireball at Jimmy Hart.
Lance Russell:  Folks, Jimmy Hart and Eddie Gilbert bullied the injured King into this match and like we’ve seen time and time again, The King overcame adversary to get the win.  Now we are not going to show you the action from this match as it is disturbing….
Suddenly Eddie Gilbert, Missy Hyatt and Jimmy Hart with an eyepatch over his left eye come to the podium.
Eddie Gilbert:  I dare, I dare, Jerry Lawel to come and say that he didn’t have this heinous attack on  my friend, the great Jimmy Hart, planned well before he even accepted this match with Hotstuff Eddie Gilbert.  I mean, he knew he couldn’t beat me so he had to turn this into one of the worst tragedies in wrestling history!  Lawler, you had the audacity to hurt Jimmy Hart… now the entire First Family will make sure that you pay for that decision.
Jimmy Hart:  Oh, Lawler baby… you made a big mistake… a huge mistake.  While you obviously paid off referee Jerry Calhoun… while you obviously paid off Jerry Jarrett and his stooge Ed Marlin, while you obviously paid of Lance Russell here not to show the video today… you forgot to pay off one more very important person.  That being the cameraman.  He, whether by accident or on purpose had a closeup of your friend in the Freedy Kruger mask; the one who threw the fireball and may have permanently blinded me…. And that closeup showed a glimpse of his hair… that blonde, curly hair.  We all know exactly who that …. The one and only, son of the CWA President… Jeff Jarrett!
Lance Russell:  Oh come on now Jimmy… you can’t prove that!
Jimmy Hart: Then call out Jeff right now and show the video.  You will see that the hair is an identical match.
Lance Russell:  As I said before, the video is not with us today and neither is the Southern Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett but I am sure when he gets back next week, he will asure that it was not him.  Have a good day Jimmy.
Jimmy Hart:  This is not the end of this.  The CWA will be hearing from my lawyers about this!!!

What Is Behind Jimmy Golden Attacking the Studd Stable?
On this week’s show, we get a replay from the last Mid-South Coliseum event where Jimmy Golden shocked everyone and came from under the ring in the steel cage match for the Southern Tag Team titles between the Studd Stable (Fuller & Eudy) and the Freebirds and attacked his old partner Robert Fuller.
Jimmy Golden came out and explained his actions….
Jimmy Golden:  First, let me explain what’s been going on and what my future wrestling plans are.    Over the past few months, I’ve gotten tons of letters asking me what’s going on.  Where’ve you been?  What happened between you and Robert?  Let me start there with Robert Fuller.  I mean where are relatives.  We are blood… but that’s as far as it goes.  Robert’s actions of late are make it obvious to all that he is just an idiot that only cares about himself.  I mean Robert’s attitude is that if its good for Robert then that’s all that matters.  We were having one heck of a run over there in the Carolina’s and then one small bump in the road he up and leaves.  I kept trying to call him and let him know that I got his back and he that he can count on me and that I don’t blame him for what happened.  His answer to me…. Click… I mean that coward doesn’t even have the guts to speak to me face to face like a man.  Then I see him out here with that freak Sid Eudy proclaiming to be the Studd Stable.  I mean come on Robert.  Instead of working hard to be the best like we used to, you went out a got a fool that will do all your dirty work for you.  Sid… I don’t blame you.  I mean every wrester in the world would jump at being part of the Studd Stable but that’s because of what I made it!  So you ask, what’s my future?  My future is to ruin Robert Fuller.  Wherever he goes, you will see me.  Whenever he steps in the ring, you will see me.  Robert Fuller… this is going to end real bad for one of us!  I can tell you this cousin…  blood is thicker than water… and the clean up crew is going to have one heck of a time cleaning yours up!

Does Rip Rogers Have A New Valet
Last we saw, Rip Rogers was leaving the Midsouth Coliseum with Elvira who had helped him defeat Eric Embry.  Embry was fuming this week on TV and wanted a piece of Rip Rogers but Rip was not in the building.  At one point during the show Jerry Lawler was at the podium and he joked about what Rip and Elvira were doing but Lance reminded him that this was a family show.  I guess we will have to wait a week or two to find out.

The Dirty White Boy & The Forearm Injury
For weeks now, the DWB has been adjusting his forearm brass just before he delivers a devasting blow which leaves them nearly unconscious.  Everyone seems to claim that it is like getting hit with a 10-pound brick and that there is definitely some sort of illegal object inside of the brass.  This week, Eddie Marlin demanded that the Dirty White Boy come to podium prior to his match and remove the brass so that it could be examined.  The DWB refused claiming that the doctor says that he cannot remove the brass due to a severe injury and that the entire CWA Board of Directors should be praising him for defending his Tri-State Title and coming to work each and every week while being in such poor health.  Eddie and the DWB went back and forth with neither giving in.  The DWB held his ground refusing to take off the brass.  Eddie Marlin also held his ground refusing to let the Dirty White Boy wrestle.  The end result was a win by disqualification by Eric Embry over the DWB.  While the crowd cheered for a moment, they realized the title didn’t change hands.  A frustrated Embry went after the DWB and got in a few good shots before he, just like the others who came before him, got nailed with the loaded forearm brace.  It will be very interesting to see where this one goes.

Tojo & Tarzan Goto Snap but There Was an Answer!
This week we saw Tarzan squash another jobber, but Tojo crossed the line with the bamboo cane.  Tojo once again came to the podium and demanded Lance Russell show him, his wrestler and the country of Japan the respect that they deserve.  Lance held his ground and refused to praise anyone who used the tactics that they did.  Tojo got right in his face but Lance wouldn’t change his mind.  Tojo turned to Goto and Goto snatched Lance by the throat and shoved him backwards.  It looked like Lance was in serious trouble when the crowd suddenly erupted with cheers.
Dave Brown took over the commentary…. alerting everyone to the man rushing in to make the save and it was none other than Sgt. Slaughter!!!
Sarge is known throughout the wrestling world and the Memphis fans were elated that he was here now.  Sarge rushed in with his Army helmet and laid out Tojo with one blow.  He then attacks Goto with the Cannon lariat and then locks Tojo in the Cobra Clutch.
Sarge is leaning back and pouring on the pressure.  For the first time since he arrived in the CWA, Tarzan Goto is in trouble.
Officials rush in from the back and eventually force Sarge off but he is white hot!!!
When we come back from commercial break, we find out that Sgt. Slaughter is currently a wrestler in the UWF and was really just hear to hype up the merger between the two promotions.  Lance thanked Slaughter for his help and Slaughter took this opportunity to challenge Tarzan Goto on Thanksgiving Night at the Mid-South Coliseum.
Jerry Jarrett came out and thanked Sgt for helping Lance.  He also said that Tojo and Goto would be suspended from the CWA for the next week.  He also let everyone know that he was still the matchmaker here in the CWA and that he didn’t care what Tojo or Goto said… the Boot Camp Match on Thanksgiving is a signed deal!!

What Is to Become of Shoo Baby!
Even though Brad Armstrong defeated Dutch in the Bullwhip on a Pole Match at the Midsouth Coliseum, Dirty Dutch left with his family heirloom.  This week, Eddie Marlin was out to make a point of the use of illegal objects.  He had already refused to allow the Dirty White Boy to wrestle with the loaded forearm when he came out during Dutch Mantel’s interview where he was cracking his bullwhip all across the interview area.  Eddie told Dutch that he would be allowed to bring the bullwhip to the ring, but any use of the bullwhip would result in a heavy fine and long suspension.  Dutch threatened Eddie Marlin and reminded him that he better control people like Brad Armstrong he recently stole Shoo Baby and was ready to use it against Dutch.
Lance signs off this week once again hyping the merger between the CWA and the UWF!

Jerry Jarrett makes waves with the announcement of the USWA.

Jimmy Hart has his suspect for who was under the Freddy mask.

The Fuller/Golden family feud had begun in earnest.

Somebody finally addresses DWB'd forearm "injury" though the matter isn't settled.

Tojo & Tarzan finally cross the line with Lance but Sarge is there to save the day.

Marlin lays down the law, Shook Baby is for decoration only!

Blockbuster announcement with the merger. Big things ahead for 1990!

Jimmy Hart thinks JJ is behind the fireball, but I'm not so sure

Nothing like a southern family feud. Golden's right, this could get bloody.

We'll have to wait and see if Elvira comes back out with Rogers.

Loving DWB's injury angle. This is heading for a fun blow off.

Awesome segment with Lance, Tojo, Goto and SGT. SLAUGHTER! Things went from terrifying to satisfying real quick. Can't wait for the bootcamp match!

I have a feeling Dutch will still find a way to use shoo baby.

Wrestlewar is going to set the tone for the USWA!

Episode #6
 November 16, 1989

The traditional CWA opening is played with some music being played as we see all the big stars of Memphis past hitting big moves.

Lance Russell:  Yellow again everybody.  Lance Russell and Dave Brown here for Championship Wrestling, a member of the USWA, a worldwide leader in professional wrestling.   By golly we’ve got a great program for ya’ll tonight.

Dave Brown:  We do indeed Lance but before we get started, I want to bring “The King” Jerry Lawler out here.

Lance Russell:  Jerry, I know you know about the merger between the CWA and the UWF.  Well, today we received a very important video tape from the UWF and I thought you ought to see it.

Video Tape:

Curt Hennig:  I know all about the CWA.  I know all about Memphis.  And yes… I know all about Jerry “The King” Lawler.  I’m not new to any of this.  I grew up in Wrestling.  Now Bill Watts and Jerry Jarrett have decided the time is now.  Time to combine the two greatest wrestling territories in the United States.  So, what do you say Lawler… Me and you in the main event.  The King vs Mr. Perfect!  The best Memphis has to offer and the best the UWF has to offer!  I’ll show everyone that you are not as Perfect as you think.

Lance Russell:  What do you say about that King?

Jerry Lawler: I’ve known the Hennig family a long, long time.  I’ve been in the ring with Curt’s father, Larry “The Axe.”  I know how good Curt is and I agree that this would be the one heck of a main event at WrestleWar!  Of course, I accept the challenge.  I’ve never backed down from a challenge in my life and I’m not going to start now.   I can’t wait to show the world that Memphis is the best wrestling in the world.  I also can’t wait to show Hennig that he’s not perfect!

Lance Russell:  Well there you have it folks.  It will be “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig vs “The King” Jerry Lawler in the main event of WrestleWar.  While that may be the match of the decade, let’s not forget about tonight as we have a wonderful show for everyone.

Dave Brown:  That’s right Lance.  We have 5 great matches for you.  The Studd Stable will be taking on the Batten Brothers.  Rip Rogers will be taking on Eric Embry in a rematch from the Halloween Spectacular.  Eddie Gilbert squares off against Brad Armstrong.  Dirty Dutch with Shoo Baby at his side will have a tough one tonight against “the Fab One” Steve Keirn and in the main event, Jeff Jarrett will be putting his Southern Heavyweight Title on the line against the Honky Tonk Man.

Lance Russell:  Dave, that might just be the best lineup we’ve every had on TV.  Let’s get to the ring for our first match!

MATCH #1

The Studd Stable (Robert Fuller & Sid Eudy) with Buddy Roberts defeat The Batten Brothers as Sid nearly breaks Bart in half with a powerbomb.

Post Match Interview

Lance Russell:  First of all, congratulations on a very impressive win and also on the fact that Buddy Roberts has been officially granted his CWA Wrestling license.  I guess we won’t be seeing anymore of the Rebel around here.

Robert Fuller:  Watch it Lance….  And as for our match tonight… this means nothing.  We got bigger fish to fry than beating some twin brothers who share half a brain.  Last week we heard from that snake in the grass, my first cousin Jimmy Golden crying about how I left him over there in the Carolinas.  About how we are blood and how could I do that to family.  Jimmy, this isn’t like when we were little kids …. when you’d get your butt kicked by some guy in class and you’d come crying to me to help you out.  This is a business.  This is how I make a living, and I can’t have you always being the weak link.  Sorry your jealous about the Studd next to me but right now, our goal is getting back our Southern Tag Titles which you helped the Freebirds steal from us!

Sid Eudy:  That’s right Robert… Freebirds… if you weren’t sorry enough before, now you added the scrawny, no-class Jimmy Golden to your sorry group!  Don’t you worry, those titles will soon be back around our waist.

Buddy Roberts:  Michael Hayes… I haven’t forgotten what you did to me.  How you always made Terry Gordy and I do all the work and then you’d claim yourself to be the leader of the Freebirds.  How you conned place after place into this Freebird Rule.  Instead of two people holding tag titles, you got them to agree to give you a belt even though you never did get in the ring.  So how about this… Revised Freebird Rule… All three of you… Michael Hayes, Jimmy Garvin and Jimmy Golden face us 3 for the Southern Tag Titles at WrestleWar!

Robert Fuller:  Buddy… you’re on to something there but let’s take this a step farther.  We keep hearing Jimmy Golden talking about being blood…. Michael Hayes talking about how the Freebirds are blood family.  Let’s make this match a First Blood Elimination Match… that is if the Freebirds and my loser cousin has the guts!
Lance Russell:  Wow… big challenge from the Studd Stable.  I’m sure the Freebirds will be up for the challenge.

COMMERCIAL BREAK-WRESTLEWAR PROMO:  THANKGIVING NIGHT-MIDSOUTH COLISEUM

Lance Russell:  Folks, I was just told that before we get back to the ring, Jerry Jarrett has a huge announcement.

Jerry Jarrett:  Thanks Lance… after seeing the video from “Mr Perfect” Curt Hennig and “The King” Jerry Lawler stepping up to the challenge like we all knew he would, I called Bill Watts down in Louisiana and said to him that there would never a better time to really kick this USWA Alliance  into full gear and make this huge main event at WrestleWar for the USWA Heavyweight Title!  Watts quickly agreed so there you have it…. Hennig vs Lawler …. 1 Hour Time Limit… to become the first ever USWA Heavyweight Champion!

Lance Russell:  Wow, Jerry…. What a perfect way to kick off this alliance.  Let’s get back to the ring.

MATCH #2
Rip Rogers vs Eric Embry

This is the first time we’ve seen Rip since Halloween when he left with a big smile on his face as he defeated Embry due to a little from Elvira.  Rip has once again come to the ring alone which leads to a few Dave Brown Elvira jokes.  Embry is looking for some revenge but Rip tells him to hold on and he starts panning the crowd again looking for a new valet.  Lance wonders what really did  happen to Elvira but Dave won’t take the bait.  Similar to Halloween, Rip struggles to find anyone up to his standards and begins his whole “Women of Memphis are just too ugly” routine when he suddenly stops like he did at Halloween.  He seems to tilt his head to one side as he seems unsure.

Rip Rogers:  You… you lady over there with the cowboy hat on … come up here for a minute.

The cameramen closes in a black women who is wearing a cowgirl hat but because of the angle of her hat, we don’t get a full view of her face.  She seems to pull the hat down even tighter as she enters to the ring.

Rip Rogers:  Wow… wow… wow.  You seem to have one great body under all those close and while I can’t see that face, you got “the Hustler” really interested.  I can tell you’re a little shy with that hat pulled down like that but….  for Memphis…. You’re as good as it’s every going to get.  I’ll give you a try tonight to be my valet…. And if it works out, you’re going to be in for the night of your life!

WHAM…. HUGE SMACK BY THE LADY!

Lady:  Not a chance… I’m with him (as she points to Eric Embry)

Rip holds his check and starts to laugh.  The Lady pulls up the hat and Lance Russell is in shock as its Miss. Tennessee who Lance explains to the crowd is a personally friend of Jerry Lawler and the Jarretts.

Rip is shocked as he has had issues with Miss. Tennessee in the past…
Embry takes this opportunity to attack Rip and he is all over him and controls the entire match which ends a huge piledriver.

Embry and Miss. Tennessee had to the podium…

Eric Embry:  What goes around comes around Lance.  Rip Rogers you might have cheated your way to a win on Halloween, but it seems like you got a lot of Ghosts in your closet.  Looking forward to the day you try to have some valet trip me from outside the ring again… just see what Miss. Tennessee Is going to do to her!

Miss. Tennessee:  That’s right Eric. I’ve had enough of Rip Rogers and his nonsense.  I’m not going to stand for him putting down all these great ladies of Memphis.  I am on to his game.  He is just looking for someone to do his dirty work for him and that certainly isn’t going to be me.

COMMERCIAL BREAK-WRESTLEWAR PROMO:  THANKGIVING NIGHT-MIDSOUTH COLISEUM

This segment starts with a few babyface promos as the Freebirds are excited to put their Southern Tag Titles on the line in a 6-Man First Blood Elimination Match at WrestleWar.  Then we get a quick pre-match promo from Steve Keirn who is excited to face Dirty Dutch Mantel who will only be allowed to bring out Shoo Baby as part of his attire and if he uses it, Dutch will be fined and suspended.

MATCH #3
Dirty Dutch Mantel vs “The Fab One” Steve Keirn

With Keirn already in the ring, Dutch comes out in full character…. Black hat, long tan cowboy coat and of course, his trusty Bull Whip… Shoo Baby!

Keirn and Dutch do a little trash talking as the ref orders Dutch to take off his outfit and get ready to wrestle.

Dutch removes everything and places his gear on the outside.  As the ref calls for the bell, a ring boy of sorts comes and takes Dutch’s attire and starts to head to the back.  Dutch sees this and rushes out stops the boy and grabs Shoo Baby!
Suddenly two things happen… Eddie Marlin appears and starts arguing with Dutch and the ref starts counting as Dutch is out of the ring.

Lance and his microphone pick up the argument between Dutch and Eddie.  Eddie Marlin is reminding Dutch of the new policy of no weapons allowed and that it is the ring boys job to bring the attire to the back as Dutch is arguing that he has no right to take his stuff and that he has not used the bull whip since the rule went into effect.

DING…DING… DING!

The ref has counted out Dirty Dutch!
Dutch is fuming and yelling at Eddie Marlin about how he better doing something … that he knows he can beat that bleached blonde loser and day of the week.

This causes Steve Keirn, who has already had his hand raised to come over to Dutch and let Dutch know that he is here to fight!

Dutch shoves Keirn but Keirn doesn’t back up!

SLAP…. Dutch slaps The Fab One and the brawl is on!!

Eventually we get some mid-card guys to break up the fight and usher everyone back to the dressing room!

Lance Russell:  Eddie, I’m so glad someone here enforces the rules.

Eddie Marlin:  Someone has to do it Lance and I am fine with that somebody being me.
Suddenly, the Tri-State Champion, The Dirty White Boy comes out!

DWB:  Eddie Marlin… you say your fine with enforcing rules.  Well I hope you’re okay with enforcing the law also.  You see… last week you told me that I could wrestle with my forearm brace and that there were no excuses even though I told you I was injured.  Well, you see this piece of paper…. It is from the renowned Dr. James Andewson… and it says that I must keep this brass on when I wrestle or else risk permanently being injured.  I promise you that if I get injured because of you, you will not only hear from my doctor but also from my lawyer!

As the DWB smirks his way back to the locker room, Eddie seems unsure of what to do!

COMMERCIAL BREAK-WRESTLEWAR PROMO:  THANKGIVING NIGHT-MIDSOUTH COLISEUM

Before our next bout, we get a video promo from the UWF where Sgt. Slaughter is informing everyone exactly what he is going to do Tojo Yamamota and Tarzan Goto in the Boot Camp match at WrestleWar.  You can bet there was a lot of “maggot” calling in this promo.  Tojo could not respond as he and Tojo were suspended this week for their attack on Lance Russell last week.  Lance was not very unbiased in his hope that Sgt. Did exactly what he said he was going to do.

MATCH #4
“Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert with Jimmy Hart & Missy Hyatt vs Brad Armstrong

Before the match, Hart, Gilbert and Hyatt stop by the desk.  Jimmy is still wearing an eye patch from where he was burned by the fireball thrown by Freddie Krueger.  Hart’s focus is demanding that Jeff Jarrett admit that he was Freddy Krueger as everyone say the curly blonde hair popping out and the mask.  Eddie Gilbert is upset with Jerry Jarrett who he says gave away his USWA title shot to Jerry Lawler.  He claims that the only reason Lawler beat him on Halloween was because of Jeff Jarrett and the Freddy Krueger thing.

Eventually, the First Family heads to the ring where Brad is waiting.  Give both Gilbert and Armstrong credit, this is a great 5-minute match where both men are bumping and selling like crazy.

The problem eventually become apparent … 3 on 1.

With Hart and Hyatt keeping the ref occupied, Gilbert is eventually able to do enough dirty tactics that he gets the win with his feet on the ropes for the pin.

As the First Family is celebrating, Jerry Lawler comes down and is going to inform the ref about Gilbert’s feet on the ropes.  We’ve seen this before and ref Jerry Calhoun has actually restarted a match because Lawler pointed out Gilbert’s cheating.

Hart signals for help and the entire First Family comes down and they attack Armstrong and Gilbert.
Steve Keirn and the Freebirds eventually rush in and restore order, but everyone seems to have forgotten the cheating and Eddie Gilbert keeps his tainted win over Brad Armstrong.

Lawler and Brad are all fired up with Lance Russell and Lawler may have put his foot in his mouth and he says he is willing to wrestle Eddie Gilbert next week on TV with his USWA title shot on the line.
You can actually hear a groan from the crowd as they know anything can happen when you add Jimmy Hart to the mix.

COMMERCIAL BREAK-WRESTLEWAR PROMO:  THANKGIVING NIGHT-MIDSOUTH COLISEUM

MAIN EVENT
SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Jeff Jarrett © vs Honky Tonk Man with Jimmy Hart

With tensions still how from the last match, Lawler tried to stay at ringside during the point but Jimmy Hart so nicely pointed out that Lawler doesn’t have a managerial license and had to leave ringside.  Eddie Marlin again appeared and for once, sided with the heels.

Lawler did some quick thinking and decided that he would be a ….. guest announcer for the match. And lucky he did!
For once, the First Family didn’t care at all about the possible title they could win.  Instead, after some unethical tactics by Honky Man which saw he gain an early advantage, Greg Valentine and Eddie Gilbert rushed the ring.  The trio held Jarrett by his arms and legs and Jimmy Hart came into the ring where he pulled a pair of scissors from his trouser.  With a huge smile on his face, he was about to cut those curly blonde locks that he swore was under the Freddy Krueger mask!

WHAM… Lawler from behind nails Hart as he and the scissors goo flying.

Steve Keirn and the Freebirds once again rush into save the day as Lance Russell signs off from another chaotic week of wrestling in Memphis.
