It's so great reading Monsoon and Heenan's classic banter

After all the promos, I'm hyped for SNME

Nailz vs. Bossman is going to be one hell of a brawl.

Speaking of brawls, Dusty and Duggan vs. The Outlaws is going to give the northern fans an old school southern show.

I'm looking forward to Tito's surprise

I can't imagine who Rude and Warrior's opponents will be. I'll be tuning in to find out.

LJN Wrestling Superstars - Vector version of the Saturday Night's Main Event logo. Near perfect replication of the show's mark. This might be the only high res version of the logo anywhere.

March 1, 1990

Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio

*Terry Funk & Manny Fernandez are standing in front of a WrestleMania VI banner*

Funk: Tonight The Texas Outlaws have come to this God forsaken one horse town to do one thing and one thing only *jabs his branding iron towards the camera* And that's leave our mark on those two inbred jackasses Dusty Rhodes & Jim Duggan!

*Cuts to Big Boss Man*

Boss: Nailz tonight i'm not gonna have to worry about reading you your rights because the only right you have tonight is the right to the country sized whooping you got coming to you boy!

*Cut to Bobby Heenan and Rick Rude who has the WWF title over his shoulder*

Heenan: Just when i think my opinion of the humanoids can't get any lower they force me to rethink it. Can you believe there's actually people out there who think that there's anyone on the WWF roster willing to take on THIS man *points to Rude* the greatest wrestler on God's green earth on behalf of that painted up lunatic.

Rude: It's absolutely laughable Bobby but I don't mind, after all there's nothing I love more than to see all my doubters get another Rude Awakening. *makes a kissing motion to the camera*

*Cuts to The Ultimate Warrior*

Warrior: Tonight I march into the unknown, blinded to the dangers that await me. But I march armed with the belief of all the little Warriors all around the world and that is power that is greater than all the forces of darkness put together and with their power, I shall cut a path of brilliance all the way to the halls of the Gods themselves!

*Cut to the Northern Invasion*

Martin: I have assembled ze greatest collection of talent from ze greatest nation in all of ze world, Canada! And tonight we shall prove our superiority to all ze ignorant Americans watching.

After Vince McMahon & Gorilla Monsoon welcome us to the show they send us to "Mean" Gene who's with Tito Santana & The Commonwealth. Tito says this feud with Dino has gotten out of hand but tonight he's created the perfect team to deal with Dino and his buddies. In the Commonwealth he has a British wrestling legend and the hottest prospect to come out of Canada in some time to deal with the Rougeau Brothers and as for Earthquake, if he wants to find the man they brought in to deal with him, he just has to look up.

* We cut back to the arena where "The Maple Leaf Forever" comes over the pa system. The arena erupts in boos as Martin leads his men to the ring waving the Canadian fag the whole way*

Howard Finkle: Ladies and gentlemen, this is your opening contest, it is an eight Man Tag team match and is scheduled for one fall. Introducing first, accompanied by their manager "Le Commandant" Frenchy Martin at a combined weight of 1,168 pounds lbs, they are the team of the "World's Strongest Man" Dino Bravo, "The Walking Natural Disaster' Earthquake & the WWF United States Tag Team Champions, Jacues & Raymond The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers, they are the Northern Invasion!

*The Canadians work the crowd until a a new theme comes over the pa*

Finkle: And their opponents, first  from Tocula, Mexico, weighing 232 lbs, he is the WWF Intercontinental Champion Tito Santana *Santana stops at the top of the aisle. He takes in the cheers until "God Save The King" begins to play* and his partners at a combined weight of 454 lbs, Dynamite Kid & Chris Benoit The Commonwealth *They meet up with Tito and trade high fives. The crowd is abuzz waiting for their partner to arrive. When he does ther's no music but he doesn't need any* and rounding out the team, from Grenoble in the French Alps, standing 7'4 weighing 520 lbs, "The 8th Wonder of the World" Andre the Giant!

While the hottest exchanges are between Santana and Bravo, you can tell the fans are waiting to see Andre and Earthquake and when the two big men finally find each other the roof just about comes off. Despite being in the perhaps unprecedented position of being the smaller man, Earthquake doesn't back down at all and lays into the beloved legend with the two brawling through the ropes. Things start to break down but in the chaos it's young Benoit who come through for his team when he catches Raymond in a "Dragon suplex" for the three count!

*Commercial including ad for WrestleMania VI which airs live on pay-per-view from the Skydome in Toronto, Ontario Canada on April 6th*

*As the camera pans the audience it focuses on Jake "The Snake" Roberts who's seated front row! Commentary speculate on why he's here as to their knowledge he's not employed by the World Wrestling Federation*

Sean Mooney is standing by with Dusty Rhodes & Jim Duggan. Rhodes says the war between he & Funk has spanned many years and several companies and sometimes he wonders if it will ever end. He reminds people that he was one of the Original Texas Outlaws and it makes him sick that Funk is tainting the name of something he started and was proud of. Duggan says he's run into Fernandez before and never had a problem with him until he let Funk get in his head, well tonight he says he's gonna do Manny a favor and knock some sense into him.

*Cut back to the ring*

Finkel: The following contest is a Pick your Poison match, it is scheduled for one fall. Introducing first from Parts Unknown, weighing 280 lbs, he is the winner of the 190 Royal Rumble, The Ultimate Warrior! *The fans are on their feet as Warrior sprints to the ring. Warriors paces about as he awaits his opponent* and his opponent, accompanied by his manager "The Doctor of Style" Slick, weighing 300 lbs. "The Human Wrecking Machine" Zeus!

Power moves galore between these two with neither man giving an inch. This is the first time Zeus is gooing one one one with a man who can match him not just in strength but also the ability to absorb punishment and you get the feeling he doesn't really know how to respond. He decides to take things to the outside where he repeatedly whips Warrior between the ring apron and the guardrail. The ref counts to ten but you can tell Zeus couldn't care less. He lifts Warrior up and drops him chest first on the guardrail once, twice, three times! Warrior is in a bad way as an oddly happy Slick leads Zeus away. As he does, the camera overhears hims saying they "earned their money tonight."

*Commercials including ad for WrestleMania VI*

*Commentary recaps the attack by Zeus on the Ultimate Warrior and announce Warrior has been escorted to the trainer's office for an initial evaluation.*

Finkel: The following contest is a Pick your Poison match and is scheduled for one fall *A woman breathlessly says "Simply Ravishing" before "Smooth Operator" by Sade plays throughout the arena.* Introducing first, accompanied by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and representing the Heenan Family from Robbinsdale, Minnesota, weighing 252 pounds, he is your World Wrestling Federation Champion., "Ravishing" Rick Rude!

*Rude swaggers up to Finkel and swipes the mic away without sparing the announcer so much as a sideways glance*

Rude: Cut the music. What'd I'd like to have right now is for all you fat, sweaty, beer bellied Youngstown yahoos to keep the noise down while I take my robe off and show the ladies what a real man, and especially what a real champion looks like, hit the music.

*"Smooth Operator" hits up again as the boos rain down but as soon as the robe is off it's drowned out by a distinctively feminine cry of appreciation as the robe comes off. He poses while Heenan holds the title high, ending by flicking whatever he has sprayed on at the camera*

*Rude casually strolls around the ring until "The Yellow Rose of Texas" starts up*

Finkel: And his opponent from Dallas, Texas weighing 235 lbs, "The Golden Warrior" Kevin Von Wrich!

Suffice to say a much more athletic and scientific match than the previous encounter. Von Erich really lights up the champ and Heenan is starting to get nervous. Von Erich manages to get the "Iron Claw" on Rude which causes Heenan to get up on the apron. Von Erich sees this and breaks the hold before going over and slapping the claw on Heenan which gets him quite the pop! Unfortunately this gives rude time to recover and he delivers a running knee to Von Erich's back and rolls him up with his feet on the ropes for the tainted victory.

"Mean" Gene is down with Roberts and tries to ask what he's doing here but Roberts is evasive. He says snakes are the most dangerous creatures on earth because they've perfected the art at striking at the right time against the right prey and from what he can see there's plenty of prey to be had in the World Wrestling Federation.

Finkel: The following contest is a nightstick on a pole match and is scheduled for one fall *The crowd pops as *Hard Times" comes over the pa* Introducing first from Cobb County Georgia, weighing 330 lbs, The Big Boss Man *Boss Man is all business as he marches to the ring, his mood only darkens as "Hard Time Theme" starts up* and his opponent accompanied by "The Doctor of Style" Slick, weighing 302 lbs Nailz!

Nailz rushes the ring and he & Boss Man start throwing hands leaving Finkel to head for the hills. The bad blood couldn't be more apparent as it takes ten minutes or so before one of them even ries to retrieve the nightstick. Boss Man nearly has it bust Slick goes to stop him. Boss Man shoves him down but Nailz delivers an ax handle to the back before getting underneath so he could deliver a powerbomb. Nailz then goes up and retrieves the stick. After several stiff shots Nailz camps on "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" using the stick for added leverage. Boss Man struggles as best he can but eventually passes out. It takes the raf and several security guards to pull Nailz off and makes sure he leaves without further incident.

Final commercial break*

Finkel: Ladies and gentlemen, this is your main event of the evening *pop* It is a tag team match scheduled for one fall *"Man with a Harmonica" starts up earning massive boos* Introducing team number 1 and representing The Texas Outlaws, first from El Paso Texas, weighing 275 lbs "Raging Bull" Manny Fernanadez and his partner from the Double Cross Ranch outside Amarillo, Texas, weighing 247 pounds, Terry Funk! *The Outlaws, mostly Funk, are yelling abuse at the crowd when "Two by Four" starts up* And their opponents, first from Glenn Falls, New York weighing, weighing 270 lbs "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan! *Duggan stops right at the end of the aisle and points to the entrance with a grin as "Common Man Boogie" starts up* and his partner from Austin Texas, weighing 275 lbs, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes!

The WWF may be in Ohio but the tag match that plays out could take place anywhere in the south. The Outlaws isolate Duggan for a good chunk and really work him over. Eventually Duggan ducks a double clothesline and makes the hot tag to a huge pop. Things break down and while the ref is trying to corral Duggan, Funk grabs the branding iron while Manny holds Rhodes in place. Dusty moves at the last second meaning Funk cracks his own partner in the head. He charges Rhodes who backdrops him over the top before delivering a "Bionic Elbow" for the three!

The promos set the SNME tone and we're ready to go!

Wow, Tito couldn't have picked a better partner to deal with Earthquake. Fun 8 man tag to kick things off with Tito's team getting the hot win. This match got the crowd going.

Whoa, what's Jake doing here?

Damn, Slick's right, Zeus earned his money tonight. Warrior's in bad shape

Kevin gives Heenan and Rude a real scare, but Rude edges out the win. Warrior got the worst part of this deal.

Jake's the master of being evasive lol

Nailz put a hurting on Bossman. We'll see how Bossman recovers from this.

Awesome southern tag ends the night. Dusty takes advantage of Funk's miscue to get the win. I hoping we get Dusty and Funk, one on one.

Next stop, WrestleMania!

Great show!

Loved all the promos in the beginning to get things started.

Was surprised at many of the results tonight which for me, is always a good thing.  I love the chaos!  Benoit being the one to get the win really helps build him up.  Zeus becomes a huge deal with the beating he gave the Warrior!  Same goes for Nailz!

Really great job at setting things up for Wrestlemania

Airing on 3/5/90 on HBO.

*Unless stated otherwise matches were taped at the Winnipeg Arena in Winnipeg, Manatoba Canada*

Heenan & Monsoon welcome everyone to the studio and hype the events from SNME. They say they'll have news regarding the fallout of that event as well as a number of updates regarding the approaching WrestleMania V!.

Match #1

The Genius defeats Koko B. Ware by countering the "Ghost Buster" into an inside cradle with a handful of tights.

WWF Update: Mean Gene recaps the surprise appearance of Jake "The Snake" Roberts at SNME and says his sources are at a loss at what the notorious wrestler's goals could be so far.

Match #2 (RAW)
The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) defeat two jobbers with the 'Rocker Launcher"

Match #3

Hillbilly Jim defeats El Gato (Paul Diamond in a mask) with a bearhug.

Footage is played of Zeus' attack on The Ultimate Warrior and SLick's remark about "earning their money". Monsoon focuses on that and pointedly asks Heenan if HE knows anything about that. Heenan puffs up and says Slick could've been talking about anyone because nobody likes the Ultimate Warrior. Hell he says he wouldn't be surprised if Warrior himself paid them to do that so he has an excuse for when Rude wipes the floor with him at WrestleMania. A bewildered Monsoon sends us to the next match.

Match #4 (RAW)

King Haku leaves some poor soul a lifeless husk with the Tongan Death Grip.

Match #5

The American Eagles (Justice & Liberty ) defeat The Bolshieviks (Boris Zhukov & Nikolai Volkoff) by DQ when the ref caught Zhukov hitting Justice with the Soviet flag. Back in the studio it's announced these two teams will go at one more time at WrestleMania in a FLAG MATCH!

Feature Match

WWF Intercontinental Championship.

Tito Santana(c) defeats Mr Saito w/"The Devious" Mr Fuji by countering a larat into a Crucifix pin. After the match Dino Bravo charges the ring and a pull apart ensues. After security breaks things up Santana grabs the mic and says he's sick and tired of Bravo's cheap tricks and if Bravo wants his title so badly he can can fight for it like a man because Santana is challenging him to a match at WrestleMania!

Huge SNME and then we come back for Prime Time...

I love the promos and the write-ups for the show. You jumped right into the WWF feel and hit on all cylinders. Jake Roberts showing up is huge and a big boost for the WWF - he is an instant star - and could pop right to the top of any side of the card. Then you've got Funk - Dusty oh yeah Rude and Earthquake - WWF is cooking right now.

We're on the road to WrestleMania!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you have planned for the Genius.

Whatever ensues, I'm sure Jake will find his way to Mania

Cool seeing the Fantastics pop up here

The Zeus story is intriguing and we'll see how this plays out in the Mania world title match

Whose man enough to try and take the crown from Haku. This is the push he should have got IRL. Nice job

Eagles and Russians in a flag match at Mania. Classic

Oh man, I think we're going to see Quake and Andre one on one at Mania!

The Commonwealth get their big shot on the grandest stage

When the champ issues the challenge, he isn't messing around. I've loved this feud.

The Wonderful History of WWF Prime Time Wrestling | Ring the ...

Airing on 3/12/90 on HBO.

*Unless stated otherwise matches were taped at the Rochester Community War Memorial in Rochester NY*

Match #1 (RAW)

The Commonwealth (Dynamite Kid & Chris Benoit) defeat The Nightstlaker & The Comet Kid Paul Diamond in a mask) when Benoit pinned Kid with a "Dragon" suplex. Benoit is really winning the fans over with his technical ability. After the match Nightstalker snaps and plants Kid with a chokeslam.

Back in the studio Monsoon hypes the Commonwealth's chances of becoming the United States Tag champs but Heenan says the Rougeaou's are the craftiest team he knows and he's sure they'll have a plan come Mania.

WrestleMania Update: We get a promo from Andre who says he wasn't bothered by Earthquake's "new giant" talk because he's heard it all before. Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy, Giant Haystacks, Giant Gonzalez and plenty more all thought they were going to take the title of wrestling's one true giant from him but they're all gone and he's still here. If Earthquake wants to join them, he's welcome to try an Mania!

Match #2

"The Golden Warrior" Kevin Von Erich defeats Brian Christopher with the "Iron Claw". Jake Roberts enters the ring after the match and Von Erich is immediately on edge. Roberts offers a handshake but Von Erich backs out of the ring, never taking his eyes off Roberts, who's all smiles the whole time.

We get another update confirming that the Tito Santana/Dino Bravo rematch for the IC title is on for Mania.

Match #3

"The Mastodon" Vader w/"The Devious" Mr Fuji flattens Ricki Ataki with Powerbomb. He keeps beating on Ataki after the bell to the delight of Fuji but Billy Jack Haynes comes down and pulls him off. Vader actually looks excited to fight someone his size but Fuji gets in the ring and talks him down.

We get a replay of the Rude?Warrior promos from a recent episode of Wrestling Challenge.

Match #4 (Wrestling Challenge)

Tugboat defeats Randy Jones with the "Capsize".

Event Center: Mooney plays us a pair of promos from The American Eagles & The Bolsheviks regarding their flag match at Mania.

Match #5

non title.

The Powers of Pain (Barbarian & Warlord) w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan defeat The Bushwhackers (Luke & Butch) with the "Pain Train" on Butch. PoP grab a pair of chairs and look to do serious damage when Demolition run down and it seems to take every security guard in the state of New York to separate them. Back in the studio Monsoon reveals that at Mania, The PoP will defend the WWF Tag Team Titles against Demolition in a Toronto Street Fight! Heenan says he's got the best lawyers money can buy to get this decision overturned to which Monsoon wishes luck with enough sarcasm to choke a rhino.

Feature Match (RAW)

Ameria's Team (Dusty Rhodes & Jim Duggan) defeat The Texas Outlaws (Black Bart & Dick Murdoch) when Duggan pins Bart with the "Three Point" lariat. Funk and Fernandez hit the ring and a 4 on 2 beat down is on that leaves' both their rivals laying and Rhodes actually cut open.

The Commonwealth are tuned up and ready for Mania. Liked the Nightstalker snapping. Interested to see where this goes.

Will Earthquake be the monster who finally takes down the true giant.

Hmmmmm, what are Jake's motives? I don't blame Kevin for being overly cautious

Vader vs. Billy Jack, bring it on!

The promos are setting things up nicely for Mania

POP and Demolition are heading for an explosive pay off at Mania

Funk makes Dusty bleed. Things got real. Get ready WWF, because Funk and Dusty are getting down one more time.

The Wonderful History of WWF Prime Time Wrestling | Ring the ...

Airing 3/19/90 on HBO.

*Unless stated otherwise matches were taped at the Springfield Civic Center in Springfield, Mass*

Match #1

Mr Saito w/"The Devious" Mr Fuji defeats Bob Allen with the "Prison Lock" (kneeling figure four)

Mean Gene's update is a doozy this week as he reveals two huge matches that have been set up for Mania. First "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan will go one on one with the "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez. And that not all because by request of both men, and out of consideration to the lengthy rivalry they've shared over the years, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes will face the leader of the Texas Outlaws Terry Funk in a TEXAS BULLROPE MATCH!

Match #2 (RAW)

Jake "The Snake" Roberts defeats Joe Cephus. Roberts offers a handshake which is accepted after some hesitation. As soon as the bell rings however Roberts doubles Cephus over with a boot and spikes him with a DDT. Roberts never stops smiling.

Match #3 (RAW)

Billy Jack Haynes defeats Eddie Beesbury with the Full Nelson. Split screen sees Haynes tell Vader to come find him whenever the Mastodon's ready to take on a real challenge. If Fuji lets him that is.

We see a interview fro a recent episode of Wrestling Challenge between Mean Gene and Kevin Von Erich. Okerlund asks about the run in with Jake Roberts and Von Erich says he's known Jake a long time, ever since Roberts came to Texas to terrorize he & his brothers. Says he'll be keeping an eye on Roberts who better not stop out of line.

Sean Mooney reminds people how they can get WrestleMania and segways into promos. Earthquake says his match with Andre has been made official and it'll be the honor of his career to be the man who retires Andre the Giant. Demolition say they'll run though Barbarian, Warlord AND Heenan to get THEIR tag titles back!

Back in the studio, a clearly rattled Heenan says by the time the PoP are done with them, Demolition will be able to be shipped back to the states in their own luggage!

Match #4

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka defeats The Genius with the "Superfly splash". As his hand is being raised Snuka looks down the camera and tells Haku he hasn't forgotten about him!

Mean Gene gives his weekly WrestleMania Update.

Match #5

non title

WWF Intercontinental Champion Tito Santana defeats Steve Vega with the flying forearm.

Heenan & Monsoon hype the WrestleMania main event....which of course means that Monsoon hypes the match while Heenan hypes Rick Rude.

Feature match.

Bad News Brown vs "Northern Light" Hiroshi Hase ends in a time limit draw. Slick came to ringside and actually tried to get involved. He presumably meant to trip Hase as Brown sent him off the ropes but Hase reversed it and Slick tripped Brown. The two got into an argument before the ref sent Slick to the back.

WrestleMania is really shaping up.

Hacksaw vs. The Raging Bull is going to be a true southern style brawl.

I'll never get tired of watching Funk and Dusty go at it. And now they get to do it on the biggest platform.

Jake's great. You just never know what his true intentions are. I'm liking this set up between him and KVE.

Haynes is very confident in challenging Vader. Be careful what you wish for.

Snuka and Haku will be a great collision.

Slick's on very thin ice with Brown. He better watch himself.

Excellent job building to Mania.

The Road to WrestleMania is heating up! Bad News Brown vs Hiroshi Hase sounded like a great match. Hopefully, those two share some of the spotlight at the big event. I'm also enjoying your use of Vader so far. He feels like a big deal. Speaking of a big deal, Kevin von Erich seems to making a breakthrough in 1990.

Match #2

"World's Strongest Man" Dino Bravo w/"Le Commendant" Frenchy Martin defeats Batle Kat with the running Powerslam. Split screen has Dino saying that Santana was the luckiest man on earth at the Royal Rumble, by at WrestleMania, in his home country not even an act of God will keep him from becoming WWF Intercontinental Champion!

WWF Update: Sean Mooney shows the crowd footage the WWF has obtained from the Beeghly Center in which Zeus & Slick, after their brutal assault on the Ultimate Warrior, walk behind the curtain and are met by Bobby Heenan & Rick Rude. There's no audio but Heenan & Slick shake hands and Heenan hands Slick a large envelope which Slick opens to reveal it's stuffed with cash! Mooney says that in light of evidence of a conspiracy between Heenan & Slick to injure The Ultimate Warrior ahead of WrestleMania Zeus has been indefinitely suspended & Slick's manager's license is "under review".

Back in the studio Monsoon grills Heenan who says he is offended that the WWF has taken that video out of context. He says he was paying Slick the money he owned him from a poker game the previous evening and says he hopes Slick uses that money to hire Johnny Cochran to fight these horrible allegations.

Match #3 (RAW)

The Samoan Headhunters (Alofa & Kokina) w/"The Devious" Mr Fuji defeat Jerry Monti & Jim Gorman when Alofa planted Groman with a Samoan drop them tagged Kokina who drops the big sit from the second rope. Someone get a shovel.

Silver King defeats The Genius with a "La Magistral" cradle.

Match #5

Dr Tom Prichard defeats Steve Vega with a running bulldog.

Tanaka tried to help his partner maintain balance but a dropkick from Blair caused him to let go allowing Brunzell to take Diamond over for the three count.

Man I can't wait for the Bossman/Nailz explosive match up

Love the split screen promos. Quick and effective. Santana and Bravo might steal the show at Mania

Looks like Warrior wont have to worry about Zeus at Mania. We'll see if Slick can get out of this jam.

I'm liking the Samoan Headhunters. Hopefully they get on the Mania card

Looks like someone big and bad is coming to the WWF

Silver King and Prichard get in some nice showcases

The Free for All is a nice little added bonus to bring in some Mania buys

Bees get a big win over Badd Co. I could watch these teams wrestle over and over.

The Road to Mania has been an exciting ride.

Love the WrestleMania build.... I think Skydome may have the roof blown off with someone like Warrior coming out in a big way. I like Santana v Bravo but worry Bravo may walk away with the title on his homeland. Spectacular writing and set up with these shows. You're using everyone in the right way and it makes it easy to read, fun to read, and engaging!

Flag Match.

The American Eagles (Liberty & Justice) vs The Bolshieviks (Boris Zhukov & Nikolai Volkoff).

The Eagles did what they could and between them & the hot opening match crowd, we got something better than it perhaps should have been. Full credit to the Toronto crowd who happily played along despite technically having no dog in the fight. The Eagles retrieve Ol' Glory and the crowd popped so loud you'd think it was the Maple Leaf!

Winners: The American Eagles.

Mean Gene is standing by with Andre the Giant. Andre says tonight Earthquake becomes just another in a long line of failed pretenders who tried to knock him from his rightful spot in WWF history. Says Earthquake is a impressive athlete with a bright future but there is only ONE man worthy of being called the "8th Wonder of the World" and that is Andre.

Billy Jack Haynes vs "The Mastodon" Vader w/"The Devious" Mr Fuji

Toronto lit up for this classic hoss fight between two of the most physical men in the WWF. Vader seemed to decide tonight was the night to show just how agile he is for a man he's size with a particular highlight being that Vader, from the apron, entered the ring by performing a backflip over the ropes before sending Haynes to the floor with a clothesline.

https://www.reddit.com/r/WCW/comments/1jhespp/i_always_liked_when_vader_was_unnecessarily_flippy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Haynes was able to apply his famed Full Nelson but with a burst of strength and a roar of rage, Vader powered out of the hold. Seeing his prized hold fail seemed to shake Haynes and it wasn't long after he fell victim to the "Vader-sault"

Winner: "The Mastodon" Vader

"The Golden Warrior" Kevin Von Erich vs Jake "The Snake" Roberts

In stark contrast to the previous match, this was a highly technical affair with several impressive displays of chain wrestling and counters to counters being deployed. Roberts seems to make aggravating Von Erich a key part of his plan and it seemed to work more and more as the match goes on. FInaly Kev snaps and is stomping a mud hole into Roberts in the corner and the ref has to physically pry him off his opponent. Kev is so heated he shoves the ref out of his way which means the ref doesn't see Roberts score with an uppercut to the uprights. He does however turn around in time to see Kev spiked with the DDT.

Winner: Jake Roberts.

Mean Gene is standing by with the Big Boss Man who says that the hardest thing about law breakers is that some people just never learn from their mistakes. When he was working in Cobb County he saw many prisoners use their time in jail to finish their education, learn a new trade or even get right with the man upstairs but Nailz wasn't that kind of guy. No people like Nailz spend their entire time in lock up bitter and angry, blaming anyone and everyone but themselves for how things turned out. For what happens tonight however, Boss Man says Nailz has nobody to blame but himself.

*Howard Finkel explains the rules of a Prison Yard match. No DQ, no countouts, no pinfalls & no submission. The only way to win is to lock your opponent in "solitary confinement" i.e lock them in a shark cage at ringside.*

Prison Yard Match.

Big Boss Man vs Nailz w/"The Doctor of Style" Slick

These two don't bother with anything resembling a wrestling match and just start beating the hell out of each other as soon as they get in range. They don't spend that much time in the ring instead brawling on the floor, in the aisle and even in the crowd. Boss Man looks to have Nailz put away when Slick raises the ring apron and gives a "come in out" gesture. This summons Mr Hughes who has his own nightstick and delivers several stiff shots to Boss Man who is taken completely by surprise. Nailz has regrouped and together they throw Boss Man's lifeless heap in the cage.

Winner: Nailz

Mean Gene is with the entire Northern Invasion and they are fired up to be in their home country. Jaqcues says that DK may be a British wrestling legend that means nothing in "the crown jewel of the Commonwealth" while Raymond says Benoit is clearly a fine, young Canadian athlete but he & his brother are the greatest tag team Canada has ever produced and all the talent in the world can take the WWF Canadian Tag Team titles from them. Earthquake says it will be his honor to confide Andre to the history books where he belongs before taking his rightful place as the WWF's one true giant. Bravo finishes up by saying that Santana's luck has run out as is his time with the IC title.

WWF Canadian United States Tag Team Championship.

The Fabulous Rougeaou Brothers (Jaqcues & Raymond)(c) w/"Le Commandant" Frenchy Martin vs The Commonwealth (Dynamite Kid & Chris Benoit)

A classic tag team encounter in which the champs isolate Kid for most of the match. Benoit gets the hot tag and tears into the Rougeaou's with blistering chops and German suplexes culminating with him submitting Raymond to the cross face.

Winners AND NEW WWF United States Tag Team Champions: The Commonwealth

Special Attraction Match.

"8th Wonder of the World" Andre the Giant vs "The Walking Natural Disaster" Earthquake w/"Le Commandant" Frenchy Martin

A work rate classic this is not but there's a certain aura about it. They keep it brief but the ending is memorable as Earthquake scores a bodyslam on Andre before landing the "Earthquake splash". The ref goes to count but Quake gets off at two and delivers another. The ref goes to count again but once again Quake gets up, he works the crowd before delivering a third splash for the 1..2..3.

Winner: Earthquake.

*20 minute intermission*

The Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) w/The Guiding Light" Capt Lou Albano vs Badd Company (Paul Diamond & Pat Tanaka) w/"The Doctor of Style" Slick

These two teams have been having matches around the loop and tend to be regarded as a highlight on whatever card they're on so it was decided to give them a spot on the big card and they do not disappoint. The finish does disappoint some however as a kerfuffle between managers distracts Brunzell enough that Diamond can roll him up with his feet on the ropes.

Winners: Badd Company.

The Heenan Family is in the promo zone and Heenan is as self-assured as a man can be. He dismisses Snuka as an "untrained savage who has no business in the ring with a ruler as regal and majestic as Haku" and Demolition as a pair of "Village people rejects who are in for a world of Pain." Rude takes over and says that he's going to do something the Ultimate Warrior could never do which is talk in a language everyone can understand. He is beyond tired of having to pretend that a painted up, roided up mental case is even remotely worthy of challenging for the most prestigious title in pro wrestling today. Says Warrior will be nothing but a colorful footnote in the Ravishing era which will only end when he says it will.

King's Court Match

King Haku w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan vs Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka

Snuka comes out wearing an Polynesian themed headpiece while Haku is adorned in not just his King's Crown but a cape of brightly colored bird feathers. Snuka is extra intense for this match and manages to overwhelm Haku for a period. A missed Superfly splash allows Haku to take control with his MMA inspired offense. Snuka has a few more hopes spots but ultimately can't escape the Tongan Death Grip.

Winner AND STILL King: Haku

Grudge Match

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez

A southern style brawl that wouldn't look out of place in Memphis or New Orleans that sees Duggan get some much deserved payback with his three point lariat.

Winner: Jim Duggan.

WWF Tag Team Championship Toronto Street Fight.

The Powers of Pain (barbarian & Warlord)(c) w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan vs Demolition (Ax & Smash)

Just four big, powerful dudes beating each other senseless with anything that isn't nailed down. The champs look to be in trouble when a large man in Viking themed garb jumped the guardrail and starts wailing on both Ax & Smash. He floors Smash with a big boot before working with the PoP to put Ax through a table with a triple powerbomb. Looks like Heenan found his men quite the insurance policy.

John Nord: Profile & Match Listing - Internet Wrestling Database (IWD)

Winners AND STILL WWF Tag Team Champions: The Powers of Pain

Dusty Rhodes in the promo zone and tells Mean Gene he doesn't know if his feud with Terry Funk will ever be over but he'll fight as long as he has strength in his body. Says Funk is the nastiest most low down dirty dog he's ever met and just knows Funk has something planned but says Funk's been plotting against the Dream for years and ain't none of them worked yet.

WWF Intercontinental Championship

Tito Santana(c) vs "World's Strongest Man" Dino Bravo w/"Le Commendant" Frenchy Martin.

These two have really found the right formula for themselves as Bravo plays the domineering strong man while Tito is the face that refuses to stay down no matter how hard he's hit. After a back and forth matchup Santana manages to trap his foe in the Figure Four. For all his struggling, Bravo can't escape the hold. Martin, seeing his man's distress jumps onto the apron just as Bravo taps out. Santana is overjoyed until he sees the interfering manager. Realizing the hold he walks over and decks Le Commandant before returning his attention to Bravo. Santana tries to reapply the hold but Bravow pulls him into an inside cradle with a handful of tights for the three count.

Winner AND NEW WWF Intercontinental Champion: Dino Bravo.

A promo airs for this years King of the Ring which is revealed will air live on PPV...from the London Arena in London England!

Texas Bullrope Match.

"The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes vs Terry Funk

The latest chapter of the Rhodes/Funk saga plays out and the Toronto fans in attendance and the viewers at home can feel the years of animosity between those two as they each batter the other within an inch of their life. Both men are busted open in this dramatic encounter Funk tries to Piledrive Rhodes onto the cowbell but Rhodes counters into a backbody drop. The bell does play into the finish as Rhodes comes off the top rope and drives it directly into the top of Funk's head.

Winner: Dusty Rhodes

As Rhodes is getting his hand raised, Dick Murdoch & Black Bart storm the ring and lay a beating on the already bloodied and battered Rhodes, apparently determined to avenge their leaders honor (such as it is). After helping Funk back to his feet and hands him the cowbell. Holding Dusty's arms back, The Outlaws seems poised to deal out some devastating damage when a new arrival charges into the ring with a steel chair. Murdoch & Bart go down after hard shots and Funk, already exhausted and seeing the momentum has been lost, slinks out of the ring. Seeing the Outlaws in retreat the man goes to give Dusty a helping hand. Now that things have calmed, fans and commentators alike are able to get a clear look at the man. He's several inches taller than Dusty and considerably slimmer but that bleach blonde hair alone denotes some kind of relation between them. Dusty, coming to his senses and perhaps just now realizing who his rescuer is, seems taken aback before lunging forward and taking the man in a hug. they leave together, the other man allowing Dusty to lean on him.

WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Dustin Rhodes

Mean Gene with his final interview of the night and it's the ultimate Warrior. Warriors says the moment of destiny is upon them and the battle for the spirit of the WWF is about to commence. The rocket ship has been filled with fuel and now it falls to him to steer it through the celestial chaos and deliver the Warriors to the promised land of Shangri-La. But a force of untold malevolence stands between them and enlightenment. Rick Rude driven by the insidious forces of insatiable greed and unending arrogance would condemn all of creation to the abyss in the name of his own hollow glory. The Gods have shown the Warrior that he must pry the cosmic key from Rude's vainglorious grasp for the betterment of every soul in the World Wrestling Federation.

WWF Championship. Special Guest Referee: James "Buster" Douglas

"Ravishing" Rick Rude(c) w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan vs The Ultimate Warrior

Rude does a baggage job for the ages as he guides the Warrior's manic energy into a WrestleMania worthy main event. Douglas' inexperience as a ref allows Rude & Heenan to take advantage and Heenan interjects himself at several key intervals. At one point Warrior scores with his high impact running shoulderblock but makes the pin too close to the ropes allowing Heenan to stick his client's foot on the rope. Another key moment is Warrior sending Rude to the ropes for a backbody drop but Rude counters into the Rude Awakening. Heenan is already celebrating as Douglas begins the count but Warrior kicks out at 2.99999 sending Toronto into overdrive. A frantic Heenan goes to slide the WWF title belt in to Rude but Dougas intercepts it. Heenan gets onto the apron to argue and after a heated exchange slaps the Heavyweight boxing champion of the world. Heenan seems to realize his mistake immediately but any attempt to talk his way out is cut short by a left hook by Dougals. Rude make to argue but this allows Warrior to gather himself and after a final blitz of clotheslines and tackles hoists Rude up for a Gorilapress alam followed by the big splash. Three seconds later, the Ravishing era if officially over.

Winner AND NEW WWF Champion: The Ultimate Warrior

Free-For-All - I loved the spot with Kokina and the pin - great job on that one.

So the Flag Match, I have done this before, put USA vs Russians in Canada with a Flag Match stip... it's just one of those wrestling things that makes sense somehow.

Vader winning is exactly what needed to happen.

Jake Roberts in the same boat - now you've got two big contenders coming out of this.

Nailz winning and Bossman subsequently leaving is a big deal... how can Nailz pay off on this momentum?

Dynamite and Dynamite Jr as the tag champs feels good and gives the crowd a much needed pop!

Andre vs Quake is a spectacle and you do a good job of putting that over here. Quake... now a 4th big time contender being built.

Haku reigns supreme... 5th contender.

Hacksaw gets his W- much like the Flag Match... in Cananda... USA! USA! USA!

Powers of Pain winning was a shock to me... maybe because the Commonwealth won earlier... but I felt like this was Demos time.

Dino Bravo wins the IC title... 6th contender! He deserved a run with this one.

Dusty Rhodes with a huge win and the surprise of Dustin makes this his WrestleMania moment!

Warrior... comes back... back to back Main Events @ WrestleMania and this time he triumphs over Rude who has had a helluva World title run.

Give it to Rude for his reign and his list of foes along his path to greatness. Now it is Warriors turn and as I've been keeping track... he's got 6 contenders to deal with coming out of this...  you have all kinds of ways to go and things for Warrior to do as champion and I am pumped to see how it works. I will say that the babyface side of the card may need to get some help right now and build back up but the WWF is in good hands and I am excited to see how it shakes.

The image of Kokina's Samoan drop was perfect for the Free for All and might've got some last minute buys.

Goulet kicks things off and the Canadian crowd is ready.

Props to the American Eagles and Russians for getting this flag match way over with a neutral crowd.

Huge win for Vader. This really gets him over in a big way.

KVE vs. Jake just works. The DDT on Kevin solidifies Roberts as a serious and dangerous heel.

Loved the rules in the Prison Yard Match. It takes a lot of help from Mr. Hughes to get Bossman in the cage, but Nailz comes out on top. This was an awesome feud.

The Commonwealth end the Rougeaus reign on their home turf. Talk about poetic justice.

Damn! I thought Vader looked like a monster, but Quake looked devastating. 3 splashes on Andre. WOW! He's now the true Giant in the WWF.

The Bees and Badd Co. deserved this spot after tearing it up on the loop. Badd Co. gets the win on the big stage.

Snuka came to fight but Haku really came on strong at the end. Long live the King.

Duggan and Manny give the Canadian fans a true southern brawl. Duggan gets his payback. HOOOOOOO!

We get a big surprise as the Viking helps POP retain. That triple powerbomb through the table was quite the spectacle.

I was really anticipating the big IC title bout. It was built up so well. Of course, Tito and Bravo delivered. Tito had one heck of a run, now it's Bravo's turn.

Dusty closes out a chapter with Funk. The big story is Dustin saving the day. Looks like another chapter will be written.

After an incredible night of action, we get the world title bout. Heenan and Rude take advantage of Buster's inexperience but in the end, Buster sets things straight which leads to a Warrior onslaught and winning the title.

Lowblow is right. Warrior now has a list of top contenders to work with. The way it should have been IRL.

Great job! The matches delivered and we now have new stories to look forward to.
