Brisco had been battling an assortment of health problems in recent years, including circulatory problems and emphyzema. He underwent open heart surgery a few weeks ago, and a little over a week ago, collapsed while undergoing rehab, and flatlined at one point.

So, apparently not out of left field, except his health problems weren't as widely reported as Jerry's recent strokes were.

As a fan the best thing about Jack is that it is impossible to remember him as a broken down shell of himself because he left the ring without looking back when he was still in strong health and still one of the best in the World.
