  10. At the start of the episode Bill Watts is at ringside interviewing Mr Wrestling II about his recent heel turn. They show the finish of the match from March 13th in Lafayette LA. For the Mid South Tag Titles, NO DQ, Loser gets Ten Lashings. Mr Wrestling II and Magnum TA defend the belts against the Midnight Express. Wrestling II walks out on his partner, Bobby Eaton hits Magnum with then tennis racket, puts Dennis Condrey on top for the pin. The MX and Cornette win the Tag Team Titles!!! Jim Ross is at ringside with Cornette and the MX. They have on party hats and there is a big cake for their championship celebration. Cornette says none of the fans or J.R. are invited to the party. Eaton and Condrey walk around to the other side of the ring as Cornette cuts the cake. But the Rock and Roll Express run in and smash Cornette's face in the cake!!! What a shock!!! Rock and Rolls run off as Cornette rolls around on the floor covered in icing and cake. Bill Watts is on commentary and thinks its the funniest thing he's ever seen, letting out raucous belly laughs. They replay the incident at the end of the episode, Cornette, still covered with cake, screams that his mother is gonna sue JR ,Grizzly Smith, the fans, everyone in Mid South. He's furious that they have replayed it again. Cowboy Bill Watts comes out and says if they are going to sue anyone, Sue Me. Cornette flips out poking the big bear, Watts tells him "Don't put your hands on me, Sissy. You're not equipped for it, Sissy." Watts starts to walk away but Cornette grabs him, the Cowboy slaps the hell out of Cornette and knocks him to the floor as the show goes off the air. ---- The following week (episode 238, 3/24/84), Bill Watts is interviewing Butch Reed about the TV Title Tournament, Jim Cornette shows up without a microphone, screaming at Watts, who says "Somebody get this sissy out of here". But it's a distraction, as Bobby and Dennis run out and start beating the hell out of Watts. Cornette and the MX beat down and bloody the retired Cowboy with a blackjack club and leave him laying out cold. Rock and Rolls, Terry Taylor come out to help, but it is too late!
  11. This is in fact, the first ever meeting between these two teams, which was broadcast on Mid South TV on March 10, 1984, episode 235. RnR's just debuted in the territory 3 weeks ago and on their second show, they already got involved in a big angle with Terry Taylor and The Russians. They helped Terry paint Krusher (Darsow) Kruschev because he was a "Pinko Commie" now and doused him with pink paint!!! (More on this later). This is from Irish McNeil's Boys Club in Shreveport, Jim Ross is on commentary. A 22 year old Jim Cornette takes the microphone from Reeser Bowden and starts ranting about this other team calling themselves The Express. "Who are these two goons..? They look like a couple of valley girls, Muffy and Sissy. What can these two boys show to my men?" Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson against Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton for the first time!!! Eaton and Gibson start the match, locking up and exchanging some blows in the corner. Gibson breaks free with a hiptoss and leaps up into a flying headscissors takedown. Tag to Ricky Morton, who immediately jumps on Eaton and delivers a hurricanrana. Jim Cornette riles up the crowd as Dennis Condrey tags in. Condrey hits two shoulder blocks, Morton counters with a hiptoss and a dropkick. The Midnights regroup with Cornette on the outside. Eaton comes back in, double team elbows on Gibson, back bodydrop, Eaton gets a two count. Ricky Morton tags in, cleans house, Condrey is reeling, recovers and hits a double underhook suplex on Morton. Bobby Eaton tags, drops an elbow on Morton, but finds himself in the opposing corner. Gibson and Morton double backdrop him, then hit the double dropkick and Morton goes for the pin. But the Russians (Nikolai Volkoff and Krusher Darsow) run in and attack the Rock and Rolls for the DQ at 3:36. The Midnights hold Gibson as the Russians cut a few locks of Morton's hair before babyfaces Terry Taylor and Magnum TA make the save. This was about as fun as you can get for a TV match that goes less than four minutes!!! Check it out!
  12. The NWA On Demand footage starts with DiBiase holding the North American belt. At the end, there is a graphic saying New Champion Magnum TA, but he was already champion.
  13. I am almost 100% certain that the two matches in one day actually took place on July 1, 1984 and not 5/27. Dibiase fought Brad Armstrong and Magnum faced Killer Khan on 5/27/84 in OKC.
  14. On 5/27/84 in OKC, Ted Dibiase fought Brad Armstrong. Magnum faced Killer Khan. The correct date for this match and the Tulsa match, both No DQ, is actually July 1, 1984
  15. The Nightmare (Randy Colley) also known as Moondog Rex and original Demolition Smash, won the North American Title from Terry Taylor on May 22, 1985 and decided from that point that he was officially changing his name to "The Champion". He is accompanied by Lord Humungous at ringside. Murdoch charges towards The Champion at the bell, fakes a collar and elbow tie up and starts punching and elbowing Colley's head. The Champion escapes to the outside, but Murdoch follows and rams his head twice into the apron. Back in the ring, Murdoch whips him to the corner and nails him with a big forearm, he gets a one count. Murdoch gets his opponent in a twisting arm-wringer, but Colley follows up with some forearms of his own. Murdoch returns with a bionic elbow and an atomic drop for a two. The Champion gets Murdoch with a big knee to the gut, Murdoch bails to the outside for a break. Murdoch almost gets ambushed on the way in, but kicks The Champion, followed by another bionic elbow and some punches, but the Champion gets the advantage. He starts hammering on Murdoch's forehead which is bandaged from a previous wound, he takes Murdoch outside and rams his head into the apron. Murdoch gets him in the corner and is punching away, but the referee pulls Murdoch off to separate them. The Champion reaches into his tights, loads his mask with a foreign object and headbutts Murdoch, sending him reeling down to the canvas. He rips the bandage off and Murdoch is bleeding now and The Champ unleashed heavy blows and attacks the cut, big kneedrop for a two count. The Champion will not stop hammering at Murdoch's bloody head, comes off the top with a double elbowsmash, snapmare and another kneedrop. Murdoch whips the Champion to the corner and grabs his mask, turns it around so that his opponent can't see. Suddenly out of nowhere, Sir Oliver Humperdink jumps on the apron, screaming at the referee. Murdoch tosses the Champ into his manager, Humperdink falls down, Murdoch hits the vertical brainbuster suplex for the win at 7:55 to become the new Mid-South North American Heavyweight Champion. The referee seems a bit confused as he hands the belt to Murdoch, but the decision stands. Captain Redneck grabs the microphone, and says "Lousiana, I love you!!!" Three stars. I can't wait to watch the two upcoming matches with Butch Reed on 9/22 and 10/14.
  16. For some unknown reason, they only aired the final 10 minutes JIP from this match on the 1/14/84 World Class TV show. There are other Flair-Von Erich matches that aired in their entirety, but not this one!!! We start with Flair working over David's left arm, clamping down and putting on the pressure. David starts to go for the claw with his right hand, but Flair quickly pulls his hair and brings him down to the mat. Flair screams at the referee and denies the illegal act. You can hear the ring announcer make the "15 minutes" call. Flair puts David in a tight standing wristlock, clamps the arm down and goes for a pin, gets a two count, four times in a row. David finally rises to his feet and nails Flair with three swinging shots to the head, but Flair whips him hard into the turnbuckle. Big Flair chop, trading blows, David whips Flair into the opposite corner and catches him in a sleeper. Flair eventually breaks it with a back suplex, Flair goes for a piledriver, but David escapes with a high back body drop. David goes to the mat and attempts to put on the Clawhold, but Flair meets him with knees to the midsection. David nails Flair with two big rights, Flair chops and kicks in return. Flair runs down the apron and goes up to the top rope, but David catches him and slams him down. Twenty minutes...the crowd heat is insane!!! David charges at Flair, nails him with 7 blows to the head in the corner, the Champ is getting desperate. David whips Flair into the ropes and hits the high running kneelift for a 2 count. They charge at each other again and David gets a bodypress for another two count. David backslides Flair for and still can't pin him down. Flair throws David over the top rope, directly in front of referee David Manning, Manning screams at Flair and he will not let the Champ disqualify himself, he refuses to end the match. Flair attempts a suplex, David rolls him up and comes back with a suplex of his own. Flair begs for mercy, on his knees in the corner, but David is relentless. Flair does the corner turnbuckle bump, but David immediately gets him in the claw!!!! Flair is busted open and bleeding heavily now. David gets him down, but too close to the ropes. Flair reaches over to the announce table, grabs the ring announcer's microphone and whacks David right in the head with it, busting his opponent open. They both stumble to their feet, but the referee decides he has no choice but to DQ Flair at 23:48. The title does not change hands on a disqualification and Flair clutches his belt tight to his chest. Kerry and Kevin run in, but it is too late. Holy FUCK this was great!!! I really wish we had the complete match. This has to be David's last great match. At least 4**** based on what airs. I need to go back and watch 10/11/82 . David Von Erich passed away on February 10, 1984
  17. This is nobody's fault, but I am almost 100% certain that the correct date for this match is 2/13/85. I believe 10/12 was the airdate on Polynesian Pro. Ric Flair was scheduled to face Wahoo McDaniel in Jacksonville FL on October 12th. We know that Flair was in Houston on the 11th and Tokyo on the 19th. Polynesian Pacific @ Honolulu, HI - Blaisdell Arena - February 13, 1985 NWA World Champion Ric Flair fought Kerry Von Erich to a 60-minute time-limit draw; Von Erich was attempting to pin Flair by using the claw at the time of the bell...(.***This is the same finish as the supposed 10/12 match***) 10/12/85 Jacksonville, FL @ Coliseum Cocoa Samoa vs. Jack Hart The Grappler vs. Hector Guerrero Buddy Landell vs. Terry Taylor Mike Graham vs. Rick Rude Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA & Ron Bass vs. Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson & Tully Blanchard NWA World Champion Ric Flair vs. Wahoo McDaniel in a steel cage match 10/09 Raleigh, NC Magnum T.A. beat Ric Flair by DQ 10/10 Norfolk, VA Magnum T.A. beat Ric Flair by DQ 10/11 Houston, TX Ric Flair beat Bruce Reed by DQ 10/12 Nashville, TN Ric Flair vs. Jim Duggan 10/12 Honolulu, HI Ric Flair draw Kerry Von Erich(60:00) 10/13 Asheville, NC Magnum T.A. beat Ric Flair by DQ 10/13 Charlotte, NC Magnum T.A. beat Ric Flair by DQ 10/19 Tokyo, Japan Ric Flair draw Jumbo Tsuruta(15:00)
  18. This is nobody's fault, but I am almost 100% certain that the correct date for the OKC match is 7/29/84, not 8/9. Mid-South did not run OKC that day. I also believe that the 8/9/84 match in Tulsa actually took place on 8/26
  19. .....I CANNOT believe what I just saw as the finish of this match!!!!! Michael Hayes accompanies Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts to the ring. "Come along with me, to the land of make believe, Rock and Roll is King!!!" The crowd is chanting "Go home, Freebirds". Buddy Roberts and Robert Gibson start the match, locking up, then both reverse a hammerlock. Roberts with a rope break, which seems to further incite the crowd. Gibson reverses a takedown into a head scissor on the mat. Gibson tags in Morton who grabs Buddy as Gibson hammers his chest. Hayes yells at the crowd, "I'll show you some rock and roll". Morton monkey-flips Buddy and squares off with him, before Terry Gordy comes in for the first time. He punches Morton's head and then, as Ricky runs the ropes, Gordy attempts a standing bodypress and misses!! Gibson tags in and Gordy immediately hits a German on him, followed by a vertical suplex. The Freebirds take control as Gibson's head is rammed into the turnbuckle, Buddy and Gordy hit a double team kick to the gut. Morton loses his temper and runs in, but Gordy and Hayes take advantage in the corner. Ricky gets the hot tag and works over Buddy before whipping him to the corner, Morton tries to follow up, but Buddy moves and Ricky charges and rams his own shoulder hard into the post. Terry Gordy comes in with a lariat and two huge fistdrops, Morton whips him to the corner, Terry jumps and hits a bodypress off the second rope. Buddy hits Ricky with a flying elbow as Gordy stomps him into the mat. Roberts hits a running bulldog headlock, Gordy comes in, drops Morton's throat on the ropes, Michael Hayes nails Morton from the outside. Gordy tosses Morton high over the top rope, but the ref doesn't see it!!! Morton is desperately in need of a tag as Buddy rakes his eyes on the top rope. Morton gets a sunset flip, but Buddy drops down and punches him in the face. Freebirds tag and Morton runs at Gordy with a bodypress, but Gordy catches him, powerslams him and a big elbowdrop for a 2 count. Buddy is in again and goes for a piledriver, but Ricky backdrops him and rolls to Gibson for the hot tag. Gibson goes off on Gordy and gets two big dropkicks on the Big Man, beating on Buddy, back to Gordy. Robert Gibson rolls Buddy up for a visual three count, but the ref is distracted by Hayes and Morton going at it. Terry Gordy casually walks over and scoops up Gibson and hits him with THE MOTHERF'N GANZO BOMB FOR THE PIN!!!!!!!!!! (See: Misawa vs Kawada 1/22/99). Fabulous Freebirds get the win at 11:10. This was very fun, but nothing special until the finish. I'll give it 3 1/4***
