Damn this was a good match. Very happy that Tarzan Boy actually uses the song of the same name by Baltimora as his theme. Tarzan Boy bleeding before the bell ever rings is a good way to start a match with a heart throb babyface. I loved the structure to this match with Tarzan Boy getting pretty much no offense in the first fall after getting jumped in the aisle by Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy trying to mount a comeback in the 2nd fall but getting screwed by Satanico's cheating and just taking more of a beating before managing to get a small package to win the 2nd fall. Then he kicks Bucanero's ass during the break between falls and things get evened up leading to a pretty even 3rd fall with some good near falls. I really liked this a lot.

I don't know anything about Old School Championship Wrestling but I saw Dylan pimping this match on twitter and watched it and thought it was REALLY good.

The Everett vs. Royal match was kind of just there for me although I did like the big spot at the end. I thought the Trevor Lee vs Brad Attitude match was REALLY good though. Really violent and they did a good job of playing off of all the stipulations. I liked the finish but I could see where someone might not like it if they hadn't watched that video covering the whole feud before watching the match. Luckily I decided to do that first and so the whole thing really worked for me.

[2000-01-01-TWA-Total Impact TV] American Dragon vs Spanky
goc replied to Loss's topic in January 2000
I didn't see anyone else mention it here but to me it felt like the commentator was doing a bootleg Joey Styles gimmick and trying to copy his cadence. This was a pretty fun match between two guys who clearly had big ideas for how they wanted to wrestle but weren't totally polished yet so some of the stuff they did didn't look that good. Spanky's dive was pretty cool that as it had that reckless "I'm willing to die" quality that I like to see in a dive. I have no idea who Shooter Shultz is outside of a name I used to see playing EWR back in the early 2000s. -
[2000-01-22-WCW-Saturday Night] Scott Armstrong vs Chavo Guerrero Jr
goc replied to soup23's topic in January 2000
I had to watch this because I'm a HUGE Armstrongs mark and I had no idea bleached blonde heel Scott Armstrong was even a thing. This was your pretty standard short Saturday Night match so really nothing memorable but enjoyable for me to see Scott working as a heel. I didn't know he had EVER won a match in WCW so also kind of interesting to hear Scott Hudson said he'd been on "somewhat of a hot streak" at that time. Personally I'd put Scott ahead of Steve in the Armstrong pecking order but I've not seen a lot of the Southern Boys/Young Pistols stuff so I'm mostly just basing that on Scott's work in Continental/USA Championship & SMW vs. Steve's work in Continental & SMW. -

Come on now. If New Japan had the resources to win a bidding war with WWE then we wouldn't have seen Nakamura, Balor & AJ Styles all leave New Japan to go to WWE. They paid those 3 guys big money because that's what it took to get them, they paid the UK guys 20k because that's all they needed to. WWE doesn't even need to go after that many guys, they'd only really need to sign 3-5 top guys to really hurt New Japan.

Don't have much time but off the top of my head: Harley Race vs Andre Gino Hernandez vs. Jose Lothario: Texas Death Match Inside a Cage Jose Lothario vs. Hector Guerrero: Mexican Death Match Nick Bockwinkel vs. Ricky Morton Pretty much every Guerreros tag match (Hector & Chavo)

WWE was already not letting contracted guys appear on FloSlam for EVOLVE. It's why William Regal might appear before the live crowd but never on camera and why Tommy End's matches at EVOLVE 72 & 73 were dark matches for the live crowd only and not broadcast on FloSlam.

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
goc replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I could see Russo being one of those people in 99/2000 who thought the Fallen Angel gimmick was some amazing thing when it never actually seemed to be more than Daniels wearing a priest collar and sunglasses. -
I don't expect the Mickie/Alex partnership to last long and it'll likely lead to a triple threat match where the title either goes back to Becky or onto Mickie James.

This is probably the most info you'll find about that fight: http://www.dory-funk.com/adorable.html

Well, that, and also the public story that WWE had no idea that FloSlam was coming lacks credibility. Even setting aside that it was an open secret within wrestling, the website itself had been announced months earlier when they started the editor search. Every Flo site has a subscription video streaming service that goes with it. So then, of course, the question is why WWE would circulate a story that that had no idea this was coming... Well they ARE an investor in the company so perhaps the idea of circulating that story was to work the marks who see WWE as the evil empire into signing up for FloSlam so they can be part of the resistance.

I feel like we've reached a point with people disliking Charlotte's push so much that reasons are just starting to be invented for why she's "not good" the way people were doing with Roman Reigns at the peak of Roman hate. The Raw segment was not one of her best but she's still so far ahead of any of the other women on the roster on the mic that it's ridiculous when I read people saying she's outright bad on the mic like I frequently see on twitter. If Charlotte is bad on the mic I'd hate to hear what people think of Bayley or Natalya.

I think he got screwed by them doing his actual entrance during the break so the entrance pop wasn't on TV.

My only real issue with the Dirty Daddy/Cain Justice match was Dirty Daddy getting hit with that big move & then just kinda popping back up from it a few seconds later to get to the finish.

JvK reviews pimped matches from late 90s-10s
goc replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Megathread archive
Well I generally agree with a lot of the people I saw pimping the Yehi/Corino match and after watching it I just have no idea what they were watching to call that a MOTYC so I'm less inclined to watch something that is gonna go 30+ minutes if I see red flags like "boring" or "doing nothing" since that was how I felt about large parts of that one. -
Checking it out now. Dirty Daddy is really bad. It's a bit of a mixed bag because it's a promotion that's attached to a wrestling school so you're going to get some guys who are still unpolished and learning. I thought that first match was the worst of the 4 that were on that show but not awful or anything, just an average match with a few execution/selling issues. I have not watched a lot of CWF yet but it seems like something you're not going to be throwing ****+ at for a whole lot of matches but is more about the presentation of characters & stories with good production and the occasional really high end main event/title match.

JvK reviews pimped matches from late 90s-10s

I kind of want to watch that Trevor Lee vs. John Skyler match because I've recently watched matches with both of them that I really enjoyed (Trevor Lee vs. Rob McBride & Skyler vs. Kevin Phoenix) but from Parv's write up of it I'm scared it's going to be some widely over hyped, overly long & boring match like the Colby Corino vs. Fred Yehi match I also recently watched. -
Finally jumped on the CWF Mid-Atlantic bandwagon after someone got me to watch the Trevor Lee vs. Rob McBride match that I thought was really good. Watched the first part of Battlecade this morning and really enjoyed that as well. Looking forward to part 2 going up on Wednesday night. Very good commentary, a good lively crowd (non-smarky/chant happy) and some of the best production values I've seen in indie wrestling quite possible THE best. Like I have no idea how or why CWF Mid-Atlantic has better production values for it's youtube show than ROH did for a long time after it first started on Sinclair Broadcasting (although it looks like they've finally gotten a lot better in the regard now)

Yeah I never got why people rave about that stuff, no interest. Same. I became a fan in the late 90's when I was a kid. I grew up with the big 3 and the first wave of "established" US indies such as ROH, CZW and IWA Mid South. I have just never felt any reason to go back and check the 80's stuff out. The only 80's stuff I can say I'm really familiar with is late 80's WWF. Must be a generational thing. How do you know you won't like it if you never check it out though? I mean I've at least sampled a lot of wrestling from a lot of different time periods before coming to the conclusion that puro and most modern indy stuff is just not for me.

Was Jerry Jarrett running an angle where Robert Fuller said that Jarrett stole the company from his family "Russo-style"? Or Jerry Lawler on Memphis TV talking about how Eddie Gilbert's wife Missy Hyatt told Lawler a story about how she wanted Eddie to come to bed but he said he had to finish watching The King first? Feuds can be personal without being "Russo style" shooty shoot bullshit. Miz isn't calling Renee "Renee Paquette" or Ambrose "Jonathan Good" so it's really not Russo-style.
-
When you look at the way they present feuds as personal rivalries and intertwine kayfabe and reality the Alabama/Tennessee influence is pretty clear: AJ/Cena being about Cena wanting to prove he's still the top dog & shut up everyone who says he's already pretty much gone from WWE. Nikki & Natalya's feud having Natalya cutting nasty promos about how Nikki's push is only due to Cena and Nikki saying Natalya has done nothing but coast off her family name & legacy even bringing up her entrance music. Miz bringing up Renee Young's real life relationship with Dean Ambrose and that turning into a personal issue about way more than "Dean Ambrose wants the IC Title" - This one is especially impressive to me as it cleans up the issues with "Why would Dean immediately go from chasing the WWE Title to dropping into IC Title contention?" This is big contrast to the way WWE usually presents feuds which over the past few years have pretty much devolved into just being an endless series of matches while title feuds have been vague title chases without much else as a hook.

Pretty sure it's because they are in the middle of a big monster taping session & the next set isn't until March.
