  1. This is my favorite topic on this board and I eagerly hope for a new post from El-P here every time I log on.
  2. That story is really hard to believe because why would you need to let the Fatal Four Way happen to "prove" it was a bad idea? It was obvious to just about everyone on every wrestling message board the moment they announced it.

Jerry did you watch the Lawler match from 82? It looks like probably the very first run he did with the gimmick and he plays it a lot more intimidating without any of the "scared animal" schtick you don't like.
  4. I do find it slightly disappointing that she took the settlement when it seemed like the judge was probably going to rule against the independent contractor status. Otherwise why would TNA rush to settle?

I don't think he ever had a chance to do anything in WWE except be a comedy gimmick.
  6. Most certainly. But has there been a good wrestling *writer* thus far we can talk about ? They've all been pretty shitty. Wasn't the head writer in 2000 from TV? Chris Kresky was his name? The guy who did the whole Steph/HHH/Angle love triangle and used story boards.
  7. I wish there was a breakdown of WWE quarterly ratings somewhere to show who consistently gained or lost the most viewers in their segments. I would imagine Brother Love would be high on the list of channel changers.
  8. Don Muraco has to be one of the most divisive guys, it seems like people are either big fans of the guy or fall into the "Muraco sucked/was lazy" category.
  9. I guess they could have made it work if they'd had Bobby Heenan bring in Khan as the "guy that's so tough he broke Andre's leg but now they're working together" but they put Khan with Mr Fuji.
  10. I assume he wanted the Von Erichs for the same reason he wanted every other big territory star: to make money with and keep other people from making money with them. With the WWF marketing machine behind them I think they'd have done big business with Kevin & Kerry as a tag headlining the non-Hogan shows. How long they could have lasted on the road in a promotion where their dad wasn't the owner and all the local cops didn't know who they were is a different story.
  11. That whole thing with Kerry seemed like them testing the waters of being friendly with Fritz. Fritz was about the only guy who had a locked in territory with stars who wouldn't leave and fans who were completely loyal to those stars.
  12. A million guys came and went, that was the way the territories worked. Verne had no issue with that, it was Vince's having his guys jump at the last second and screw over Verne that was the issue he had. Yea it was more about leaving without a notice than just leaving. If I'm booking and my top star tells me he's leaving in 2 weeks that's no good. But at least with 2 weeks I can try to come up with some way to write them out and try and keep the fans from turning on the promotion for a top star leaving without notice.
  13. I'm kind of hoping the buyrate is way down off last year just so maybe they'll stop coasting so much.
  14. I really don't care about Mania at all. It's like they went out of there way not to do anything we couldn't predict 6 months ago.

It's obvious to me they have no intention of pushing Ziggler to the next level. Jobbing to Cena or Ryback clean is one thing, but to Miz's terrible Figure Four? Not that I'm on the Ziggler bandwagon anyway, I don't think he's a real top guy anyway.I think he's pretty much right where he belongs, just outside the main event.
  16. That's really some of the weakest booking I recall them doing. I really hope this is the last year Taker wrestles.
  17. I don't have 94 Observers but I would guess it was the Taker vs Taker match. While the match sucked, it was a very unique build and I'm guessing it was different enough that people wanted to see which was the "real" Taker.

That's a pretty cool find. Honestly, if you trade out being a savage for being a deadman, he's basically working like early Undertaker. He sold for Lawler lowering the strap, which is mandatory, but otherwise he worked invincible until the end. Where was this, the Louisville Gardens? Looks like the Mid-South Coliseum to me.
  19. They changed all the prices after Superbrawl to account for Hogan's take. Seeing as Superbrawl was $24.95 ($27.50) I would guess that's the price for all the 1994 PPVs.
  20. I kind of think the Vader drawing power had been pretty hurt by all the jobs to Hogan, especially Hogan popping up from the Powerbomb. They were planning on turning him face anyway, and if he wouldn't have been programmed against Hogan anymore, then he would no longer be put in a position to draw anyway.
  21. We are probably going to do another one on Tuesday so try and join us then. I might but I'm disappointed all my good Steve Regal material is now wasted. I wanted to riff on how calling him Mr. Electricity is about as accurate as calling Rey Mysterio the Mexican Monolith or the Tijuana Tower. Or calling Miz the Excellence of Execution.

I can't find the 82 match with Lawler on youtube. I might rip that off my dvd later and put it up for this thread. It's the best Kamala match I've seen because he doesn't do the "scared animal" thing that is Jerry's main criticism of him. Which I find to be a very valid criticism of a monster heel. EDIT: This isn't the early match with Lawler I was thinking of that ends with fire. It is however a good brawl between early pre-"scared animal" Kamala and Jerry Lawler.
  23. Man I ended up falling asleep around 7 and just woke up and missed it. I'm sad I missed the skewering of the Regal/Zumhoffe match. I despise that match and it will absolutely be my 150.
  24. I'm free for this one and thinking about joining in. I expect there will be a LOT of Steve Regal bashing in this one.
