  1. This is a good one. It undercut Reigns pretty badly and then Seth as champion chased off a huge portion of the audience. This is really the point that started the path to where they find themselves today with record low ratings.
  2. Brock Lesnar and I don't think it's close if we're talking pure athletes. He had a successful MMA career that got sidelined due to sickess. He was a successful amateur wrestler and he almost willed his way onto an NFL practice squad with limited football experience.
  3. You would need to look at how they structured the house shows while he was there. It's possible some of his programs were carrying the B show circuit.
  4. Speaking of angles. I know LOLTNA but I thought he was good as the commissioner there. Especially his slow heel turn. It's a shame they ran out of money before that went anywhere.
  5. Wasn't some of the stuff with Steamboat, especially in 1989, his wife making some interjections about his character and gimmick? I can also see the physique. When I finally saw old Mid-Atlantic footage and him pre-WWF I was kind of shocked at how ripped he is compared to the late 80s and early 90s.
  6. What I kind of like going back to Street is, like you said, he wasn't gay, he was probably bi or into kinky shit. But his character knew people thought he was gay so he would play into that if it got him an advantage. I always like how before the bell he would prance around and play up an effeminate gay sterotype and then the second the bell rang that was gone and he was just on guys like a wild animal.
  7. Thunderbolts is a good read along with Busiek and Perez's Avengers run. Really cool idea for s book that was a lot of fun for a few years.
  8. Same. I actually wish he would talk more about comic books because I would be fascinated to see his collection but he talks about that maybe once or twice a year.
  9. That was what the Drive Thru originally was but it's all bled over there.
  10. He is also king of projection. When he gets on his political rants he's more often than not describing himself. Brian Last has kind of steered him into shock jock radio. All they need is some naked chicks and they might as well be Howard and Robin.
  11. He was involved in some enjoyable stuff in early 80s Mid-Atlantic. Wahoo and him fucking with Piper was always good. I thought the stuff with Slaughter and Kernodle was a good angle as well.
  12. I don't remember if the Ron Simmons match was for the title or not. I looked at results and it looks like he made defenses against Jack Victory and Mike Rotunda at house shows.
  13. Nice. Thanks for the link. I will be checking this stuff out. I also want to check out the Stetcher match from 1920.
  14. His NWA reign was equally as underwhelming if you ask me. Kind of just disappears after winning the title and then loses it a few months later. I guess he had the Flair matches in the NWA.
  15. The finish itself is perfectly fine. That match is really the first thing that comes to mind as the wrong guy going over and I think it's such an obviously bad booking choice that it does kind of hurt the match in hindsight for me.
  16. That's actually the one I found and I was super pumped to watch it.
  17. I'll throw one out. Kobashi/Akiyama from Departure 2004. Anazing match. Akiyama should have won. The guy had momentum and that was a potential star making moment and he lost. They struggled to ever build a star in NOAH and I think they were too deep into getting Kobashi that big run instead of going with the fans.
  18. Side topic to George Steele but we were talking about wrestlers in Oscar nominated movies and he was really great as Tor Johnson in Ed Wood. It might be one of the best roles a wrestler ever played in a film.
  19. I honestly don't get the love Jesse gets. He can be really good and I enjoy his commentary. But holy shit does that guy just fucking steamroll big moments by not shutting his fucking mouth. I just watched Sting winning the TV Title and Michael Hayes is pissed on commentary but he also does that well getting out of the way and giving Sting the moment.
  20. So I figured someone on the board would have a good answer for me. I was just kicking around YouTube and just seeing what really old stuff I could find and was a little surprised when I found a Stetcher/Caddock match from 1920 and another match claiming to be 1913 but I don't remember who was involved there. How much pre 1940s footage is actually available. My rabbit hole started because I wanted to see if there was footage of Jim Londos still around.
  21. The NA Title was such a dumb addition to NXT. It's never meant anything and the fans don't care about it. It's clear that's what they give guys they don't have anything better planned for.
  22. Oh yeah, you're right, missed that one. It was wedged in between working for another promotion. I remember liking his Champions Carnival match with Dory Funk Jr. in 75.
  23. Hurricane got him in that one promo where he said he had a small dingaling and zoomed away. Rock awkwardly tries to brush it off but you can tell in character Hurricane hit on an insecurity. That's about the only promo job I saw him do.
  24. Comics did it to themselves. The per issue price has been insane for over a decade and you can't read anything from the Big Two without an event just ruining whatever is going on in the book yearly. No one wants to pay $4-5 for something you are going to finish reading in 5 minutes and changes nothing. DC under Didio was especially obsessed with shitting on the characters like Wally West that younger fans had grown up with or the universes just shrinking in general over time. It also doesn't help that they reboot series or the universe every couple of years. Kids can't afford or easily obtain comics and you have to get hooked at a young age to put up with some of the issues comics as a medium have. Look at manga, manga is coming over here and wrecking the comic industry because the price is better and it's far more accessible due to series being self contained and having a beginning, middle and eventual end. You want to read Naruto? 72 volumes, pick up Vol 1 and go.
  25. He has no attention span and Bruce Prichard still seems to rely on people he was familiar with from 10 years ago. I think Keith Lee would have had issues anyways but I don't see what being in NXT actually did for him other than cooling him off.
