I find it interesting that King and Titus seem really disgruntled with the faux-MMA style that RoH is so fond of these days. If the fans don't like it and the wrestlers don't like it then who is so supportive of the style?

Ring of Honor broke 2 of the cardinal rules with the Kenny King situation: 1. Never put a championship on someone that doesn't have a contract. 2. GET THAT SHIT IN WRITING. Number 2 is the cardinal rule in life. Ring of Honor can whine all they want that King done them wrong but if it's not in writing, it didn't happen. That's life.

Did he ever come out and say how much money he lost on the company? I feel like I heard 15 million at some point but I might be confusing that with something else.

Ray Stevens was pretty fucking terrible in the AWA. He was a low point when he was doing a lot of color commentary in 1988.

I find it interesting that King and Titus seem really disgruntled with the faux-MMA style that Ring of Honor has really been pushing since starting on Sinclair. It was like they were saying what I've been thinking about it.

They've been a huge failure in every Sinclair market they've tried to run live shows in. They need 750 fans to break even on live shows and they do half of that for most of the new markets they run in. Sinclair also started tightening the budget really soon after the tv show started. I also question the commitment level that Sinclair actually has and what the finances of RoH looked like before they were sold. I tend to think Silken got out because he was tired of pouring money into a sinkhole.

I thought they would be dead and buried two years after the tv show debuted for Sinclair. We're not even a year in and it's fallen apart even more than I thought it would.

What do people think about Ernie Ladd when he was on commentary for Mid-South and some of his brief stuff with the WWF? I liked his work quite a bit.

Kenny King and RoH have parted ways after King appeared for TNA last night. So RoH lost one half of their tag team champions because he was working without a real contract. That seems like a really bush league move on the part of RoH.

Kenny King, current RoH Tag Team Champion, was working without a contract and appeared on TNA Impact tonight. He won his match and it would be hilarious if they sign him right up and RoH has to vacate the titles. Who puts belts on workers not under contract these days?

I honestly don't see why so many people have such hatred for ROH. I don't think the TV is horrible, the announcing was terrible at first but Kevin and Nigel seem to have got their acts together in terms of being an old school straight announcer/ex wrestler color man team. Neither guy is the second coming of Gordon of course, but better than what WWE and TNA offer most weeks. I'll grant you the formatting is a little odd, having the big "Inside ROH" promo block in the middle of the show like that. I get that they are trying to get guys a chance to show personality to the viewers, but putting it in one block like that just makes it fast forward material. Davey to me seems like the John Cena of ROH. He doesn't bother me nearly as much as he seems to bother practically everyone else, I just figured that his gimmick was a weeaboo type who favored Japanese pro wrestling rather than like , anime or whatever. He seems like a guy who just watched puro tapes 24/7 without understanding any cultural differences why guys act all stoic and shit. Also I agree Steen celebrating his title win by stuffing his face with cake was by far the best thing they've done so far. But yeah, I have ROH TV on my weekly DVR rotation and I don't really see why it gets hated on so much. Best I can gather is that it seems like some people are still holding on to the days where Joe, Punk, and Danielson were regulars and of course nothing today is going to compare to that. Even Dave was comparing Spike's investment with TNA to Sinclair/ROH as proof that perhaps they aren't into ROH for the long run. Of course ROH's production values are going to be less, Spike is part of the Viacom empire which is worth billions. They have the capital to prop up a money losing wrestling venture. Sinclair's earnings are less than $100 million. Not chump change, but they have less room to work with in terms of how much they can burn. Could ROH TV use an upgrade? Sure, but it doesn't seem fair to compare to TNA when they are bankrolled by someone who probably has the net worth of Sinclair lost in their couch cushions. It just doesn't work for me and I don't understand how much smaller promotions put on better television with better production. That's really been my problem with RoH for a long time. They don't invest in their product. It took them something like 6 years to properly mic the arenas so you could actually hear what guys were saying in promos. The tv show is an extension of that as it's barely better than cable access wrestling. I've tried to watch the show a lot but it's just not interesting. I end up skipping most of the show due to the crappy format. I do okay through the first couple of matches then hit the talkfest and usually turn it off because I get bored. Then I forget about it for the next 2 months. They don't do any kind of angles that make you want to watch next week. And I don't compare it to TNA. I compare it to NWA Hollywood. A smaller promotion that has better production values and an overall better television show.

There's also some match with him teaming with Paul Jones against the Briscos that was aired on 24/7.

Back several years ago I created an EWR promotion with all the biggest bridge burners there were in professional wrestling. It was inspired by how terrible Wrestling Society X was. I had the Ultimate Warrior, Lex Luger, David Flair, Jimmy Snuka, Jake Roberts, Justin Credible, Koko B. Ware, etc. I tortured the fans with the worst matches I could imagine.

I think Foley's problem was he reverted to that "well gee-golly, please like me" kind of guy that he can be at times at first. I don't know, he just didn't translate well into the position. He just was lacking energy and the ability to sell. He's like that NFL player that has tons of personality when they play and then get a booth job and clam up and lose it all.

I was thinking about his announcing in TNA. He did the X Division Invitational at Bound for Glory and was really really good. He was putting guys over left and right and his jokes were pretty good too. Yeah, Booker T really lacks the charm of Stevie Ray. My friend and I still use Stevie Rayisms in everyday conversations. How can you hate a guy that regularly used the words "yaks" or fruitbooty" in every day announcing.
-
Booker T is pretty awful. I know this is about bad color commentators but Kevin Nash is a fantastic color commentator when he wants to be.

RoH is terrible in every stretch of the word. Their tv show just fails on every level imaginable. The squashes are too long, the announcing is terrible, the promos are awful and even the format is bad. They throw in a couple of matches in a row and then throw 3 or 4 promos back to back on you. It just makes for a really tedious experience. And Davey Richards is just an ass. His "wrestling is super serious guys" shit is just boring as hell. I'm being honest here, Kevin Steen stuffing his face with cake a fan gave him after winning the title was more interesting than anything Davey has ever done. Honestly, NWA Anarchy, OVW and NWA Hollywood put on much better television than RoH does.

Would Shawn Michaels Make Your Personal Top 100?
Mad Dog replied to Dylan Waco's topic in The Microscope
I always kind of thought Marty Jannetty was the superior piece of the Rockers team but was his own worst enemy. -
He hasn't come up yet. But I used to watch Smackdown just to listen to JBL's color commentary. He was probably the best announcer they had in a really long time. Mick Foley came in afterwards and wasn't very good at all.

Does anyone else think it was really stupid of RoH to bring in the Headbangers and give them a completely different gimmick? I could be wrong, but to me the value of signing the Headbangers is the gimmick. Otherwise they would have little value to me in any situation.

Thesz hadn't wrestled for like a decade before that match though.

The Sheik wrestled from 49-98 Bobo Brazil did 51-93 Santo did like 34-82 Blue Demon did 48-88

Does Harley Race winning the title off of Terry Funk with the Indian Deathlock count? He used the move as a signature hold but I don't recall him winning many matches with the move.

A lot of Flair's title losses were at the hands of non-finishers: Sting and Steamboat rolled him up when he was trying to apply the Figure Four Leglock. Ron Garvin got him with a sunset flip off the top rope. Dusty Rhodes got him with an inside cradle. Kerry Von Erich used a backslide.
