  1. It can't be stated enough times how terrible Tim Horner is. That's the toughest part about early SMW. The heels are just so much more compelling on the stick. You have Orndorff, Ron Wright, DWB and Cornette cutting great promos on a weekly basis vs. stuttering Tim Horner, Brian Lee and Robert Gibson.
  2. The Confederate flag isn't necessarily a racial thing when you're dealing with more southern states. And this was 1992. Bo and Luke weren't even a decade removed from General Lee antics to the delight of everyone. And the Nazi gimmick was pretty common up until that point.

  4. Taz was kind of built though. Sure, he was short but I don't think anyone would want to run into him in some back alley. He projected an aura that really covered up his lack of size.
  5. I think it does and it doesn't. I think you can overcome size with smartly worked matches with the smaller guy outlasting and outsmarting their opponent and getting the win. I think gimmicks can also be important as guys like Grizzly Redwood have a great character and you start to overlook the fact that he's fairly small. I think where it does matter is when you get into guys like the Special K crew in early RoH. You have guys that weighed 110 lbs., had no definition, no tan, no gear, nothing. I like junior matches but I honestly sat there during those matches thinking "we do I care, I could kick that guy's ass and I'm nothing special." I think when you start thinking that to yourself, someone is too small to be a wrestler.
  6. I don't know. It feels like they've been out to screw him up from day 1. I have a hard time thinking of a top face being booked worse than John Cena has. It really is a miracle that he took off and sustained like he has.
  7. IVP has like 90 DVDs of footage of the GWF. I think it's just the television in chronological order. I've considered ordering some of it numerous times.
  8. I personally don't like the comparison because I tend to see John Cena as being the natural evolution of the Sting persona from the early 90s. As far as the two go. You have to rate Cena higher because his higher end work is just a lot better. He's had so many good matches with so many different people that you can't deny that he's a pretty good worker. Hogan had a lot of good matches with a wider variety of people but Hogan always held back more than he let loose. I think it's also to Cena's credit that he actually survived the level of booking incompetence and reluctance to make him the guy.
  9. I watched an episode of RoH television for the first time in awhile. Boy, that show is a mess. WGTT/D-Line. This went 10 minutes for whatever reason. The announcers spent way too much time talking about the jobbers. The Chikara six man was fun but Kevin Kelly didn't "get it" and sucked the fun out of the match entirely. The RoH fans also didn't get it as they were polite clapping at comedy spots, humorless asses Ultramantis Black did commentary and RoH should really consider using him full time. He did a good job. This got less than the squash match. Ricky Reyes... I thought he was Low Ki for a second there. God, Jay Lethal sucks without the Black Machismo gimmick. RoH should let him do it, it would make the product more interesting. The production is pretty shitty, you can't hear the crowd at all. Davey Richards cut a promo and I considered slitting my wrists. I can say with complete honesty that the video of Kevin Steen stuffing his face with cake after he won the title was literally more interesting than anything Richards had done in the previous year as champion.
  10. I'll take a stab at it. I think the biggest thing that made them memorable was their music. That starts off and you want to start belting out the lyrics because it was just awesome. I think they also get remembered because they were different to the other teams when they started. There wasn't really a couple of ass kickers at the time so they stood out greatly. They also had good timing as the Hart Foundation were kind of off the scene and Strike Force wasn't getting it done as the top team. I also think their promos were good and pretty memorable for the energy they could have. But I think the music is one of the biggest factors. It gave them this aura of importance. One of the coolest things when they did Chikara in 2008 was the crowd went totally apeshit and started signing along to the music.
  11. Oh God, that would be awesome. No sell the 25 Burning Hammers, pop up, 1 Heart Punch later and you've just trolled a crowd to the point where they might pelt you with garbage.
  12. Oh, this is the one where he says it's easier to beat the champ after the tournament then have to beat four guys in one night? I remember it I think. I liked his logic but I don't remember it being great or anything.
  13. Screw that.... Toehold!
  14. Which promo was this? Was this the one where he was assuring the fans that he wasn't dating Julia Roberts?
  15. You can't fuck over your paying fans repeatedly and keep good faith. TNA gets shit on a lot but at least you get a working product when you pay for something. There's going to be a point where people stop paying for their shows because they get tired of paying for something they don't get. Every PPV they've run since getting the tv show has had a serious technical issue. It makes them look incompetent.
  16. Bobby Shane > Jerry Lawler > Eddie Gilbert
  17. If we go way back. The Rock N Roll RPMs were derivative of the Rock N Roll Express.
  18. Would this be the thread to mention all the indy guys that ape Chris Benoit's and Dynamite Kid's movesets and personas? Davey Richards in particular seems derivative of several guys.
  19. As in, RIP ROH? RIP RoH if you ask me. This is the third PPV in a row they've fucked up. They thought they got out of it by throwing GFL under the bus and then scrambled at the last minute and threw this on their site. Now, they've fucked up again and they're going to be giving away the next PPV for free. Plus, they used Paypal for this show and people can enter claims to try and get their money back for not delivering the product.
  20. RoH dumped GFL and went with themselves. They decided to host this iPPV on their website. They've already had technical problems. I'd say this is it for RoH.
  21. The undercard for the WWF was pretty shitty in 98-99 but with that being said, I have a better memory of what mid-carders like say Steve Blackman were up to at any given moment in the Russo days than what Kofi Kingston has ever done.
  22. There's this old lady in the front row of almost every tv taping and she FUCKING LOVES Brian Lee. I mean fucking loves him. There's one main event where you can hear her screaming the entire time for him.
  23. Wasn't he essentially out of the company after that IRS match. Valentine wasn't getting a push of any kind. Total JTTS. He got squashed pretty hard by Earthquake at Wrestlemania that year.
  24. I think the steroids played a big part in Eddie's death but I agree, you can't leave out the boozing and pill popping when you talk about his death.
