  1. I think you would get different versions of Andre based on who you asked. 1970s wrestlers would've seen Andre not only healthier, but only a few times a year as he toured from territory to territory. You get a guy who does crazy shit a few times a year, you remember that fondly. Mid '80s his health was deteriorating and he was only in one place (WWF). The wrestlers who saw him months on end probably would not have good impressions of him.
  2. Honestly, I wouldn't be embarrassed to have Flair's body when I'm 60.
  3. Conversely, I think James learned a few things of his own from working in the Red Sox front office. If there's a problem with the fantasy booking types, it's that they have little feel for the business aspect of wrestling.
  4. The Bulldogs vs. Thornton/Foley match seems like a decent start.
  5. Really, once you pay property taxes and stuff like that. How are you going to take in enough income to make it worthwhile?
  6. Was it uncommon for promoters to abuse the NWA championship? I remember reading that Lord Al Hayes beat Dory for the title, only for Dory to get DQ'ed for attacking the referee AFTER the match. And Carlos Colon beating the champ by escaping the cage, only for the promoters to declare that the title could not change hands on a cage escape.
  7. I can understand getting AWA dates wrong because that stuff isn't well documented and I think the tape staff has commented that some of their catalogs were poorly labeled. It boggles my mind though that mistakes like the Snuka/Backlund date slips through when it can be easily checked through Wikipedia or Cawthon.
  8. Even better than Halloween House?
  9. Youtube's got a bunch of Mimi. I got into wrestling in late '90, so I think I can be forgiven for not having heard much about her before. God damn she's hot. Nice to see she's apparently had a nice post-wrestling career.
  10. Come on it's a Roast! That isn't a stupid thing to write. I've never been to a roast, but if it is making fun of things like people's diseases then I wouldn't find it funny either. Comedy Central airs them from time to time. The intent is to make fun of EVERYTHING. Sexual orientation, bodily functions, dick jokes, whatever's an easy target. Your mileage may vary significantly.
  11. The general point of the grocery store stuff was to show Randy's struggle to work outside of wrestling. The general question being "when you're finished doing the thing you're best at, what do you do?" Ayatollah fits into that well. You get some conversation before the match about him selling real estate in Arizona/New Mexico. He found the life he needed outside of wrestling, which Randy hadn't.
  12. There's nothing wrong with revisiting matches, you just have to recognize context.

    Oh, Hulk ...

So in a way, Verne Gagne succeeded. I wonder if he paid off the Sheik after all.
  14. I got it. Give me a minute or two to type it out.
  15. Good point. I'd say wrestlers were more likely to get challenged face to face by people who knew/felt it was fake.
  16. Bill Watts has an autobiography out. I can't imagine a better place to look. http://www.amazon.com/Cowboy-Cross-Rebelli...5258&sr=8-1
  17. I spotted Hashimoto, Kevin Nash, Ivan Koloff, Otto Wanz, maybe Bam Bam Bigelow.
  18. I'm surprised but pleased that Bill Miller got in. Seems like the voting favored quite a few old school candidates.

    Oh, Hulk ...

The bolded part is more believable than Andre weighing 667 lbs.
  20. There's a Lost in Cleveland extra on the dvd, so they didn't totally ignore it.
  21. Huh. The exact same card is listed 3/14/84 as well. Probably a slip on Graham's part.
  22. Deserving or not, it's way too early to consider Edge as a HOF candidate. It's ridiculous that a wrestler in mid-career is on the ballot.
  23. It seemed pretty obvious to me watching as an outsider. Masami has that bitchy beauty look about her. Chigusa is plain looking. She's just flat out not that pretty, and understand I don't intend that as an insult. To a teenage girl, which character is going to resonate more? I get the impression that Chigusa's plain looks had a lot to do with her popularity. I could be way off base though.
  24. I'm looking at what the promotion viewed. Between Hogan and Luger the fans would view Bret as #1. But Vince didn't intend for that to last.
