  1. If Daniel Bryan manages to make a full recovery (which I don't expect) and they put him in NXT, they have an indy legend who fits the vision and also has the potential to draw casual fans. ROH would be hurt pretty bad by that.
  2. Feel free to use the Match Discussion Archives to start threads for these if you want to watch & review. Just use the tag "NWA Classics" so they are easily searchable.
  3. I guess World Class inventing the valet with Precious and Sunshine and having better television production until NBC modernized their look isn't as sexy a story, even if it is true.
  4. I used to get Conor Macgregor and Conor Michalek confused.
  5. My reasons changed as I got older, but at one point, the reason I wanted a journalism degree was so I could work for Pro Wrestling Illustrated.

    WWE TV 7/20 - 7/26

If I'm WWE, I'm alarmed by that rating. The second hour with the Brock-Taker angle did 4 million viewers, which is admittedly better than the last few weeks, but still, the show overall was the lowest-rated non-4th of July summer RAW since 1997. If you think the same numbers just aren't possible in today's climate, think again. Just last year, Batista's first appearance back drew 6 million viewers. They have made some choices since the beginning of 2014 that have driven people away.
  10. Tyson needs full-time care at this point apparently, so they have given her time off to take care of him. His injury was really bad from what I understand -- to the point where it could have paralyzed him or worse. He's very fortunate, although he's still in bad shape.
  11. I don't know if Vince's views on immigration line up with Trump's. A Vince campaign arguing that we should stop calling the flag "Old Glory" because it makes America seem dated would be fun, though.
  12. People say he said Punk was returning on the Chicago RAW last year, but he didn't -- he said he was told Punk was coming back, but he didn't know if he believed that, just that that's what he was told. But the "newz" sites twisted what he said and so you had people on Reddit, the type that use the term "dirt sheets" in seriousness, who believe that's what he said. The Jericho thing was a clear case of him getting worked, though.
  13. This has always struck me as nothing more than marketing language and yet another crutch for bad creative. If they weren't a wrestling company, why would they care about taking it to a wrestling show on Destination America that draws 80,000 viewers a week?
  14. WWE doesn't have a huge amount more TV than WCW did even when they were doing well. I find that referencing the amount of TV is an excuse to write off bad booking too often. And it's not like WWE was hitting an awesome creative peak when RAW was only two hours each week either. I'm not sure RAW has been a well-booked show week to week for any extended period of time in the last 15 years. I'm fine with few clean finishes on TV, but I do think the big events should have mostly clean finishes. With all the rematches, I think it would make far more sense not to beat guys so much if they feel like that's something they have to do. Even John Cena loses too much when compared to other guys who were at that level in the past. The problem there is that Cena shouldn't be the first guy anyone faces -- he should be the last. He's not the setup guy. He's the guy others are set up for. Rusev should be able to live the rest of his career off of beating him at Fastlane, but he won't because WWE emphasizes the Monday Night Wars era more than they do their last 6-12 months of history.

Not even so much Cena as everyone else they include in that category, save *maybe* Rollins, but only because he's the champion and had a match with Brock the night before, so it wouldn't make sense.

I'm not even sure it's really WWE's fault, but when I see hierarchy in other wrestling companies, it makes wrestling more fun and creates intrigue. When I see hierarchy in WWE, it doesn't come across as hierarchy so much as it comes across as high school cliques with the "real" stars sitting at the popular table.

The inclusion of Cesaro, Rusev and Owens wouldn't have bugged me if Cena, Orton, The Shield and Bray Wyatt were also included. When they left them out, it was clear they did so because they see them as more important than the other three. Like I said, I put it on me, not WWE.

I realized watching that segment that WWE officially isn't for me, and that's too bad. All I could think after a legitimately great segment was that it shows how they see Cesaro, Rusev and Owens when they are lumped in with the rest of those guys. I'd rather just enjoy a great angle like that, so I think it's just passed me by. I'm too jaded. At least I still love the old stuff.
  19. Will is joined by Dylan Hales (Wrestling Culture), Kris Zellner (Exile on Badstreet), Phil Schneider (Segunda Caida), Johnny Sorrow (Titans of Wrestling) and Johnny P (Barbed Wire City) to break down all of the action. Is there a political hit on Roman Reigns? Can the NXT women perform on the big stage? Will Kevin Owens ever win another match? Finally... Undertaker. Don't miss this episode. http://placetobenation.com/ptbn-reaction-show-battleground-2015/
  20. I don't know if it's still in effect, but at one time, they actually had a rule about applying a hold longer than 15 seconds because of the fear that it would hurt ratings. That goes back to Russo.

Tamina isn't a great worker, but I've always thought they could do some fun stuff with her. I like the idea of Bo Dallas taking her as a ringside second and doing spots where he hides behind her for heat. I could see that working with Miz also. She doesn't need to be really good in the ring -- she just needs to look good beating people up.

There was? That's interesting (and good), but I don't remember that. Cesaro gets the attention, but I do think if he can get healthy, Tyson Kidd has always had major upside.
  23. Oddly enough, I think the best Santo-Psicosis match I've seen is the one they had in Promo Azteca in 1997.

  25. I was oddly curious because I'd never actually seen Dixie Carter in her television character role. So I just watched some stuff on YouTube. It was horrifying, to the point that I thought it was uncomfortable to watch. For all the complaints Vicki Guerrero would get, Vicki was ten times the performer Dixie was and was never awkwardly bad.
