  1. That reminds me that I got in trouble over there before Christmas for saying that Nulty would be the first to say he wasn't a real announcer when he said Gery Roif wasn't a real wrestler. My experience at Classics is similar to Dylan's except when I was banned I really did know about it.

  6. There's a possibility of Mark Henry getting the belt?!? Jesus tapdancing Christ, that would be a stupid decision... The if is a very big one, because Angle isn't taking an MRI so he can ignore his health problems, which indicates that he plans to gut it out and headline WrestleMania again as champion. Of course, I don't think that's really a sensible decision by Angle, because his long term health should come before his career.
  7. I'd usually agree as Meltzer is such a fan of Flair's that he sometimes puts him over more than he deserves to be, but with the biggest demographic increase being in 35-49 year old males, many of whom will be long time fans who have followed Flair's career for years and years, Flair probably deserves some of the credit for the high ratings the past couple of weeks. Bah, most of Vince's matches have been surprisingly watchable even without the great Shawn Michaels carrying him. It should be fine as long as they make it a brawl. Gee, Angle's more of a nut now than he was 3 years ago, not that that should be any surprise. It's nice to see Vince has learnt nothing from Batista's injury and is continuing to flog his injured wrestlers until their body completely breaks down on them.
  8. To be fair to WWE the footage was probably filmed before Eddie's death when they still were in denial over the dangers of steroid abuse. Personally I'm a bit sceptical about Graham's long term potential as a babyface champion. I certainly think Vince Sr could have milked Graham's run for a bit longer, but given Graham's drug and health problems, as well as being a very poor in ring worker, I doubt he could have held the gold as long as Backlund or Hogan did and have the same long term success.
  9. Does Jarrett really need to make any more money though? If he's saved his money wisely he's probably earned enough money over the last decade to be comfortably well off, even if TNA does go out of business. He'll probably end up with the TNA tape library that he could sell to WWE for a nice six figure sum and if WWE doesn't bring him in as a wrestler so Vince can get off on humiliating him, he can always work for his fathers construction company. That's probably true, but I can't see that happening when Jarrett has more name value than 95% of his roster. Of course, the Carters could put their foots down and force Jarrett down the card, but there is no sign of them doing that yet.
  10. Well, not everyone hates it, some people love it, as it has won move of the year twice in a row in the Observer awards.
  11. It's not that crazy an idea considering it isn't his money on the line if it goes out of business, it's Panda Energy's.
  12. Take Armageddon, for example. This year's initial estimate was 290,000 buys, about 55,000 buys higher than last year's initial estimate for the PPV, but the initial estimate for North American buys this year was 190,000 buys, only 5,000 buys higher than last year. It just goes to show there's no real evidence of a domestic turnaround, whatever WWE says in its conference calls.
  13. I was reading Scott Keith's comments again and it suddenly dawned upon me that all the sheet writers would probably share a similar opinion to him if Tim sent them his review, which is kind of sad. Though he probably wouldn't be called a kook outright, he would get the same dismissive tone.
  14. I can't see Austin ever going to TNA, unless they offered him completely ridiculous money for someone who only has a few matches left in him, because I think he still has lingering heat with Jeff stemming from Jeff calling the Austin 3:16 gimmick blasphemous on Raw when Jeff returned to the promotion in 1997 amongst other things. It's a moot point anyway as Austin is under WWE contract to make 3 movies for their film division, so I doubt legally he's able to work for TNA and even if he was I doubt he'd want to risk losing his very lucrative film contract. I hope so, but I think it's more likely he ends up the next Chris Benoit or Chris Jericho or Eddy Guerrero circa 1998. Pigeonholed behind the real "stars".
  15. I think having a Hell In The Cell or Elimination Chamber match is worth at least 75,000 buys compared with a normal bog standard brand only PPV show. Of course, they've got to be careful not to burn out those cash cows.

  17. How have they attempted to ruin Smackdown? I know they moved it to Friday nights but that's there prerogative.

  19. What is a 21/05? You Americans and your daft idea of putting the month first and trying to force us poor trod upon Europeans to use your silly conventions. By the way, I think your analysis of that match is bang on. Best match on the 80s WWF sets by a substantial margin.

Why should he? His peers and the wrestling media have treated him as the Second Coming for years, so why would he feel the need to change what he does. I really think Angle's early success and praise went to his head and he started to regress as a worker, because he thought he had nothing more to learn and started to ignore the importance of psychology and pacing in his matches. Great athlete, poor wrestling brain.
  21. This promotion needs a booking committee consisting of Jim Cornette, Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff and they need more nutty talent like Randy Savage and Kevin Nash.

Yeah, that attitude is sadly widespread through most of the major columnists. Whether it be Bruce Mitchell taking cheap shots in his forum at DVDVR for calling Mark Henry gasp a good worker now and making the cardinal sin of criticising Angle's and Michaels' work, James Caldwell standing by what he wrote when Dave Meltzer criticised his horrible Bret Hart columns on Figure 4 Daily or Dan Wahlers also slipping in cheap shots to the DVDVR brigade in his most recent column, they are all the same. They treat the outspoken minority who watch wrestling with a critical eye like they do but come to different conclusions than them like delusional idiots, which really encourages bitching and trolling rather than debate and discussion and does their profession a disservice.
  24. I'm interested.

You should just be more blunt, Loss. With this quote right here, you should've just told the fucker your point was that he was a hypocrite. Actually I don't think Bryan was being a hypocrite, because I believe he genuinely feels that wrestling fans today are much more savvy than they were 10 years ago and fans will now turn on World champions who aren't competent in the ring, because Bret, Shawn, Austin, Angle, Benoit, Eddy, Jericho, Rey, etc, have raised expectations so high for the standard of work in main events today. I actually think there is some truth to this, but it wasn't the main thing that made fans boo him, as I agree with Loss that fans seeing through his fake thug gimmick was more important and I also think the male fans were resentful of him getting the girly pop. With regard to good matches that get no heat I'm sure you could find a ton of high quality WWE cruiserweight matches on Velocity that the audience slept through.
