  1. "At UPN's presentation today before the Television Critics Association at the Winter Press tour, president of entertainment Dawn Ostroff indicated they are looking to keep WWE. The contract for Smackdown expires in September and WWE was at first unhappy with being blindsided last year with the move to Friday night. However, Smackdown numbers have improved in recent weeks to being only slightly down from Thursday after a rough first few months. "We fully intend to have wrestling on our schedule," Ostroff said today, and noted they are in negotiations for a new deal." - Dave Meltzer So it sounds like Smackdown is going nowhere, unless Vince shoots himself in the foot again by asking for a ridiculously large hike in rights fees, which is possible but one would hope he has learnt his lesson from last time.
  2. I think with a book like Death Of WCW it's more interesting to talk about the authors analysis of what happened, rather than simply recap the history, as most of us lived through it as fans. The book was a good overview of what happened, but sometimes I felt their analysis was a bit simplistic and didn't look at the big picture enough. Too much, ha, ha, wasn't this a stupid angle, not enough looking at the behind the scenes turmoil that led to the stupid ideas.
  3. I could help out. I'm half way through Dusty's book and have got JJ's and Ole's books yet to read.
  4. But he was an unprofessional lunatic. He held up promoters for more money, no showed events and was a general pain in the ass to deal with. I'm not saying there weren't some factual inaccuracies and lies in the DVD, but the truth was often enough to bury him and he'll have a hard time proving those few lies did him any real damage. Really it's hard to have any sympathy for Warrior when WWE was open to working with him on the project, but he turned it down and then has the gall to complain about them not portraying him in the most flattering light possible.
  5. The other 2 are squash matches from AWA TV. I wouldn't be so sure about that, because Backlund did turn down being inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2004, probably due to Pete Rose being inducted, which may stick in Vince's craw a bit.

Exactly. But the rest of his booking committee aren't going to tell that to his face, as they know where their bread is buttered, and Dixie Carter doesn't know any better, while Jeff Jarrett probably thinks he needs more exposure or something. I get the feeling that TNA feels that that hot babyface is Sting, but we're at the point where the sooner the title is off Jarrett the better and who knows how quickly the honeymoon period for Sting will end.

Hey guys, haven't you forgotten that there is money in the chase. I'm sure that'll be Jarrett's excuse if he nonsensically retains.
  8. Trust me to open my big mouth just before WWE makes an announcement "WWE has been working diligently to complete its new wellness program for talent, which includes an aggressive drug and steroid testing program and heightened cardiovascular monitoring. The company believes it has identified a third-party that will be able to implement the program, which will be done independently of WWE, and is going through final phases of its due diligence. WWE believes the program will be ready to implement before the end of the first quarter of 2006." - WWE.com
  9. I've pretty much given up hope that the drug testing will actually happen, given that nobody's heard anything about it since it was announced and their recent booking (Angle as champion, Edge vs Flair in a TLC match, Michael Hayes "shooting" on wrestlers today who want more time off, etc). Hopefully I'm wrong, but I get the feeling WWE don't really want to find out how bad the pain pill problem is within their company and aren't willing to pay the perceived price of shrinking physiques.
  10. I'm starting to think that people are watching different matches to me, as people on the DVDVR boards have started to say Savage couldn't carry anyone and needed to be guided by a smart worker. Savage vs. Angle, Anyone else struck by this?
  11. Nah, he got brought back because he was a big star as part of the nWo and D-Generation X during the late 1990s and Jeff Jarrett is a mark for that, which means he's here to stay. Well, at least until he misses another show. Talking about missing shows repeatedly TNA has stopped using Jeff Hardy because he no showed the last PPV event.
  12. A-Train is much, much bigger in person than he comes across on TV. That's the problem with having so many giants on a roster, people who are huge by normal standards become just another guy, because they're dwarved by Big Show and The Undertaker. Same with the muscleheads. It's a shame WWE doesn't recognise this.
  13. Good for her. If more people stood up for themselves like Dawn Marie WWE wouldn't get away with treating their employees, sorry I mean independent contractors, like pieces of meat.
  14. Jeff Jarrett - he was really skinny when he started out in Memphis.
  15. As long as he didn't bleed on Stephanie it's no big deal. But Ace is lucky that he's got a job that few people are qualified to do and most of them wouldn't want it anyway due to the really long hours and stress of the job. If they got rid of him, they'll probably have to bring back Jim Ross in the short term and the McMahons hate him, so Ace is going nowhere soon unless business completely tanks and they need someone who isn't family to blame.
  16. Even Eric Bischoff understood that his lack of size was actually a huge positive, because it made him different, after seeing him wrestle for the first time.
  17. The only problem with turning Angle face is that Smackdown doesn't have any over heels that would draw money with Angle at the moment IMO. As much as the fans seem to want to cheer Angle now, I think there was more money in Benoit, Rey, Undertaker and Batista when he returns chase him than Angle defending against the likes of Orton, JBL and Booker.
  18. It won't have any real impact whatsoever. We've seen the pattern time and time again they hot shot a big return or a big angle, people view it because they're intrigued, but switch off over the next week or two because nothing has really changed. I mean they teased showing live sex and that was the main ratings draw, so what possibly can they do next week to sustain the audience that viewed just for that train wreck segment. You can't really top that, unless they tease Mickie James and Trish Stratus having sex or something, but then where do you go? And also these sorts of angles don't sell PPVs, as people didn't tune in to see Cena beat up Edge, they tuned in to see the angle before it.
  19. If any wrestler was responsible for Austin being let go it would be Hulk Hogan, because by the summer of '95 he really had more booking power than anybody else in the company and had huge influence over Bischoff's decisions. Foley wasn't around then, so he probably blames Flair because he was still head booker then but by that point all he was doing was rubber stamping Hogan's decisions.
  20. Who would be the Nobuhiko Takada for WWE in this feud? None of the K-1 fighters are well known with the WWE fan base and very few of them can work a pro wrestling match. The only K-1 fighter who would be of any real use to WWE would be Bob Sapp, but I'm not sure he would be worth the large amounts of money they would need to pay K-1 to bring him in.
  21. Goodhelmet's correct here. The only thing it would do if pushed heavily in the long run is make WWE fans more likely to watch UFC and Pride. They're already copying enough ideas from the dying days of WCW, I don't want them to start copying ideas from the downfall of New Japan Pro Wrestling.
  22. And that is supposed to be Hogan's fault not Bischoff's? Actually Piper contributed lots to the bottom line, as his feud with Hogan did great PPV business despite the matches absolutely sucking.
  23. WCW died because Turner execs cancelled Nitro and Thunder. Had that event not happened WCW would still be here. There is no guarantees that if Jamie Kellner hadn't cancelled Nitro that WCW would still be here. Fusient Media Ventures may still have pulled out of the sale when they looked at WCW's books closer and even if the sale had been completed by that point WCW was a dead brand and would need a mammoth effort to resuscitate it. If Eric Bischoff hadn't learnt from his many mistakes and continued to fritter away money, FMV probably wouldn't have put up with it for long and pulled the plug themselves. With regards to who was responsible for the death of WCW, it can't be laid at the feet of any one person, even Hulk Hogan. Eric Bischoff was the one who gave him all that power and Kevin Nash, Kevin Sullivan and Vince Russo helped him book the promotion into oblivion.
  24. Bingo. The comparison to Jericho is particularly apt, as Edge is probably just a placeholder champion to keep the belt warm for a bigger star (Cena or Hunter) to take it from him in a few months max, just like Jericho 5 years ago.
