  1. One of my few regrets with this set was the inability to pick up a high quality version of It's Time. Oh well, maybe next time. Ah, we miss more bitter barbs from Shawn. Wasn't it in that match he called Sid the most expensive piece of luggage in the business? The things you failed to pick up when you're 15.
  2. What Mort said. It's a terrible disease to have.
  3. Bingo. It's a bit of a self serving gesture. It makes Foley feel better about himself without really risking anything and puts himself over with the online fans for saying what needed to be said. It really hasn't touched a nerve as the article is still up there and so is a video package of the angle Foley found so reprehensible. And the article itself (and Eddie's death for that matter) is trivialised by the headline below it being about how Shelton's momma is recovering from her fake heart scare on Raw as if it was a shoot. I'm sure Vince is revelling in the extra controversy the article brings and doesn't really care what Foley said. Foley could have taken a real stand on this if he privately threatened to refuse to work at Mania if WWE didn't drop the more tasteless aspects of the angle. Maybe that's too much to ask, but does he really need another 6 figure paycheck?
  4. Courtesy of Dave Meltzer: How fucked up is that? Even WCW didn't pay fans to attend their shows.
  5. The technology isn't ready yet. But, yeah, when it is up and running it will be a great help to WWE.
  6. If NOAH were clever they would make ROH their DVD distributor, because that would probably maximise their sales in the US. As far as running shows on their own it really isn't an avenue they should go down, because they couldn't draw a large enough crowd to really make it worth their while. That said, I often think Japanese companies like NOAH and New Japan say things like this just for the publicity it creates, even when they have no real plans for expansion.
  7. I don't think people's opinions of Ross' ability really has changed that much. There has always been a quite vocal "Ross is still God" faction (people like Meltzer, Mitchell and Wahlers come to mind), just like there has been an outspoken "Ross sucks and Styles does too" faction. Personally I find it funny that people who are friends of his like Cruise are clamouring for him to be brought back as if Vince wouldn't publicly humiliate him again.
  8. Maybe being on a stronger network is helping a bit.
  9. But isn't that what WWE wants in all their announcers? The problem isn't so much with Styles, as it is with management's mindset. They strip away what he can be good at, calling matches and moves, partly because they don't understand the importance of doing that, but also because they are petty and vindictive and have this stupid desire to break down anyone who was a success in WCW and ECW and rebuild them in their vision. Joey's currently paying for every cheap shot he took at WWE online in his effort to fleece the smarks into paying for the elite content on his shoddy website. He's just lucky that he's hated less than the person he replaced. And really any friend of Jim Ross should hope he has the self respect to tell Vince to stick his announcing job where the sun don't shine if Vince ever came crawling back to him offering his old job back.
  10. It's the converse of Page's cheesy WWE catchphrase: "That's not a good thing, it's a bad thing". New Japan rode the wave of sympathy and nostalgia after Shinya Hashimoto died for as much as it was worth, putting over aging veteran Masahiro Chono over the seemingly undefeatable Kazuyuki Fujita in the G1 Climax tournament final last year, and it gave them a huge feel good pop on the night, but meant nothing for long term business and they remain a dying promotion. This is even worse, as any good feeling WWE could have gotten by pushing Rey Mysterio harder in the wake of Eddie's death is extinguished by the crass angles they have used to try and get Randy Orton over. Talking about promotions falling far from grace I found this news story in Dave Meltzer's update sad considering how sell outs for Raw and Smackdown used to be the norm: "WWE had about 6,000 paid as of a few days ago going into tongiht's Raw at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta. The company was ecstatic about that figure. The only tickets left are $22 in the upper level. Many top sections were planned to be tarped off, but they may be opened now for walk-up business. The lower level was sold out, although there was some papering. Weather is very cold and rainy, which could hurt walk-up. According to sources at the arena, very heavy Latin concentration among the ticket buyers, and traditionally that means there may be a good walk-up."
  11. I agree, they need to be able to walk before they can run. You don't go raising the wrath of Vince McMahon by going head to head before you know you can compete.
  12. You're probably speaking too soon. Nash is a bit like Stephanie's return last year - comes back when you least expect it. Wade Keller for whatever this is worth is saying Nash may return to TNA soon contingent on his dates not clashing with any acting work and has proposed a specific booking idea for him to have a series of singles matches. Maybe his heart problems weren't so bad after all?
  13. Chris Jericho's and Chris Benoit's big push in June 2001 came after Paul Heyman convinced Vince he needed to go in a new direction when The Undertaker's feud with Steve Austin flopped. Unfortunately it only took Vince a couple of weeks to give up on their push despite Benoit and Austin having great chemistry in the ring together. Jericho's Undisputed title reign push I believe was due to them wanting a heel champion for Hunter to win the title at Mania and Jericho was thought to be the best person for the job. His feud with Shawn was probably due to Shawn wanting it and what Shawn wants Shawn usually gets. Same goes for The Rock feud.
  14. The former. My predictions: Carlito over RVD (to keep that feud burning and set up a rematch at Mania - they've already pigeonholed RVD) Kane over Masters (he's got a movie to promote soon and you want a big monster in the finals for Hunter to squash) Triple H over Flair (duh) Show over HBK (Shawn gets screwed in the first round, so Hunter doesn't need the McMahons help to win the tournament) Kane over Carlito Triple H over Show (to blow that feud off) Triple H over Kane
  15. Currently I expect the worst from WWE booking wise (and TNA with regards to Jeff Jarrett) and then I'm pleasantly surprised when they do something right. I wish I was surprised more often.
  16. I think Kawada is actually under contract with DSE and they dictate what outside bookings he can take. And to make things even more confusing Kensuke Sasaki is opening up a dojo and going to start running his own shows.
  17. I wouldn't get your hopes up too high about Ultimo Guerrero and Mistico working for TNA, as they've been trying to get them for dates for ages, but Paco Alonso has nixed it every time, because Konnan works for TNA. I assume that will still be a stumbling block.
  18. Another update:
  19. Well who else is there left for him to feud with?
  20. I think it's a good idea. I wouldn't be able to help with burning DVDs or things like that and sometimes I wouldn't be able to comment on the matches in a timely fashion, but if that was aloud I'd look forward to participating in this.
  21. That angles like this even happen reflects how much power and intimidation WWE has over their employees. Most of the TV writers are expendable and know to keep their mouths shut when Stephanie or Vince comes up with a tasteless angle or gimmick that they think is great. Most of the wrestlers won't complain about anything, because at best they'll be buried and humiliated on TV (see Matt Hardy being sodomized by Viscera at the Rumble or Vito eating the Boogeyman's worms at Armageddon) and at worst they'll be fired. I'm sure some people whose positions are more secure than the average wrestler did complain and made their feelings known, but even they know that they can't push it too hard. Don't blame the wrestlers, blame the sick minds where the ideas came from.
  22. Wade Keller is reporting that TNA is going to get a 1 hour prime time TV slot for Impact on Spike TV on Thursday nights from 8 to 9pm Eastern when Ultimate Fighter 3 starts in April. Ultimate Fighter will probably be at 10pm with an episode of UFC Unleashed preceding it. An official announcement should be made very soon. Dave Meltzer had been reporting that Spike TV were considering this a few weeks ago.
  23. Well, let's face it, they wouldn't have even let him win that if Eddie hadn't died. And that's a travesty, because he should have won anyway or at least have been heavily considered to win, as he's the best wrestler and biggest ratings draw on Smackdown. Will's right, if Rey ever wins the title it'll be by default due to all their pet projects failing on top and all the veterans breaking down.
  24. 1.2, but that was on June 29th 2002. I probably fall in that category somewhat. It's good news, but more important is whether they can sustain the rating in future weeks when Sting isn't around and after Sting has made plenty of appearances for them. It's probably just a one week spike for Sting's first national TV appearance in almost 5 years and doesn't mean anything unless it helps them get a better time slot. It's a good enough rating that bringing in Sting hasn't been a failure in the short term, but it's not big enough to make Spike TV really stand up and take notice. With regards to the question over time slot or 2 hours the best thing for them would be to follow The Ultimate Fighter in a 1 hour prime time slot, because of the crossover with UFC. I'm sceptical that they would be able to sustain their ratings for a whole 2 hour show at this point, especially if a lot of their viewers are UFC fans who watch just because it is on after Unleashed. Of course, the best thing for this company would be to bring in someone like Chris Jericho or Brock Lesnar to replace Jeff Jarrett as the top guy and use them to make Samoa Joe and AJ Styles into bigger stars, but unfortunately TNA management is as short-sighted and stubborn as WWE management, so I'm not holding my breath.
  25. It wasn't a snap decision - I think it was the plan all along. This week's Observer said the plan was for Cena to regain the title and that would have been written 4 days before the Rumble, so the decision was made at least a week before the show. It's just Vince's MO to wait until the absolute last minute to break bad news to his talent.
