  1. All this Texas Hangmen - FUCK YEAH!!! Thank you soo much for all this...I havent gotten to see much of them and what I did see I LOVED...AWA dropped the ball on not using these guys like Road Warrior type killers and not having them and the Destruction Crew Duke it out in some bad ass fueds... So Thanks brotha!!! Also, El Boricua, your reviews are TOP NOTCH and really make me want to watch all this...so me and YouTube Downloading will be good buddies the next few days while I dl this stuff and get reading... Adding the context to these matches make them IMPOSSIBLE to not see... Thanks so much to you and Dylan for introducing me to the first non North-American wrestling that I am diving into head first!

  3. I am about half way through the Texas Wrestling late 80's - early 90's podcast done by the Wrestling Culture guys...aside from the show being fuckin incredible...GREAT work guys...anyone that hasnt, you MUST listen to it...do it now... Anyway, I have a couple questions as I am listening to this concerning TV as I imagine those guys are here as they mention the site and I have heard goodhelmet on their shows as well as Bix: 1. I know they mentioned there were 6 total shows running for USWA (after Texas and Memphis became USWA), but its also stated only 3 were really "new" stuff. Which three were they? 2. Its also mentioned that a lot of this TV wasnt easily found on the trading forums until a month or so ago? What specifically were they talking about, outside the 1990 yearbook, which is also mentioned.. I am a collector that tries to get as much of something as possible once I get into it and I have been a HUGE fan of Texas from 82-89, but really havent seen a lot post end of 89 (tag title tournament) and want to start seeing it. I have a bunch and want to see what I still need and what is available... Thanks guys... Once again, LISTEN TO IT!
  4. Son of a bitch...I have the 4 weeks leading up to that date.... I will have to hunt the 11/2 down if I dont see it on the 10/26 ep. Thanks for the help!
  5. What episode (the TV date) of Live Wire had Ron Simmons first mentioning the Nation of Domination? Thanks! Was it somehwere in 10/5 - 10/26/96 weeks?

  9. Wonder how well these two would have matched up on the big WWF Stage. But Austin's dislike of Jarrett caused that to never happen.
  10. Need some help here... I have tried several times to get into Japanese wrestling, but just cant due to the commentary taking my attention as I dont speak Japanese and not a big understanding of everyone outside the big names... So....where can I learn about feuds and what built to big matches or why certain greats were against each other in the ring? Or was Japan not like the US wrestling in terms of storylines, was it just "this guy is good, this guy is good, get in the ring and go?" I mean no disrespect at all toward Japanese wrestling, and I REALLY want to enjoy matches that I keep hearing soo much great stuff about...but need some help!
  11. I'm not sure this concept works completely for wrestling. Albums such as Love's Forever Changes, Van Dyke Parks' Song Cycle, and the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main St (just to name a few) are cohesive works of art which are intended to be digested as a complete whole. Sure, a person is able to listen to Tumbling Dice on its own and enjoy it as a good song but when it is placed alongside strong album cuts like Rocks Off, Rip This Joint, Shake Your Hips, and Casino Boogie (all featured on record 1/side 1) the listener is given a much richer musical experience that creates mood and atmosphere. This goes double for a concept album like Beach Boys' Pet Sounds in which the songs taken as a whole allows the listener to gain some sort of understanding of the emotional state of its creator, Brian Wilson. I'm not sure complete wrestling shows work on the same deep, abstract level that the majority of the greatest albums ever recorded are able to work. On the other side, not ALL Albums are made to be listened to in their entirety....Classics like Dark Side / Wish You Were Here / Every Beatles Album starting with Sgt Pepper and some of the greats cabinboy mentioned SHOULD be listened to in their entirety...but outside that, MOST albums are individual tracks cut by the band / performer in seperate sessions with completely different meanings to each and can be listened to as singles...so with that: I am a BIG fan of individual matches most of the time (like most albums made), but feel that full angles or show long tournaments (classic albums) should be seen in their entirety to get the full vision of things...so its a matter of what you are watching... Quick Example: Survivor Series 1998 should be seen in entirety Battle Of the Belts 1986 (with Luger / Flair 2/3 Falls) can be seen individually... Completely out of the blue examples..but you get the idea.. Hope you are well Jerry VonKramer...your show is still really good..I miss the few I got to do and so wish I could still be there..keep it up!
  12. Is this their first Nitro encounter? Curious... These two had a bunch of TV matches and they were all really good.. Too bad they were vanilla midgets to really go anywhere else, right? World Champs? No way, no one would buy that. Shit, imagine them both as champions at the biggest show of the year...what a joke that would be.
  13. I heard this as Ross was in, booked Zenk to title, then was out. Ole was back in and put the belt back on older guys, AA. Also, if (kayfabe wise) Arn was soo hurt from Starrcade that he lost his title here and then couldnt do War Games...why does he get the belt back in a farily quick match in between the two events? Made Zenk look like shit as a threat after that.
  14. What was the point of this tournament? I get the Pat O'Connor tie in, but WHY? After Halloween Havoc, they had a GREAT opportunity to get some feuds finished for good or kick off some new... I know we had some matches that dealt with feuds, but seemed like a waste to me that should have been a Clash, like Starrcade '89 should have been.
  15. I LOVED this.....the true meaning of hated heel...and man did he do a GREAT job of selling that he was with Iraq and Saddam... Did he bring out the picture here of him, Saddam and Adnan? I love that picture just for the bullshit it was, tasteless and GREAT!!! Plus seeing the former Iranian millionaire Sheik Adnan now an Iraqi Colonel amused me. Really, looking at this from afar, it was really not much different than Ivan Koloff going to take Nephew Nikita and "Pave The Road To Moscow in Gold" in 1985 down in Mid-Atlantic / NWA. Its just that Slaughter was soo believable and "real" in the way he portrayed this, it made it better to view..if that makes sense. Knowing who Col. Adnan was though knocked things down for me as he was Iranian in AWA, and Iran and Iraq did not mix at all...so that kept it Pro Wrestling for me and just enjoyable to watch. As for LA Colliseum, I think it was ticket sales that stopped that from being held there...If they were gonna put 100,000 people in that place, there is NO WAY Vince McMahon wouldnt have done it. This is pre-9/11 and even pre 1993 Trade Center bombings so "Security Concerns" wasnt as big a terror (both in word and action) as it is post 9/11.
  16. WCW Had a LOT of good TV Title, TV Title challenger level guy TV matches during the first 4 months of 1991 on Pro and Worldwide with: Tommy Rich Arn Anderson Bobby Eaton Tom Zenk Ricky Morton Rip Rogers Terry Taylor And a few others....
  17. PERFECT way to take what looked like the end of a feud, with Hogan fighting back and winning the titel at Mania VII and kick it into the next gear minutes later.... This SHOULD have led to a final Desert Storm or No Rules Match at Summerslam to end the feud, but we see where it went..instead they had Houseshows with that match that were really good...
  18. IF Slaughter burns the flag here, instead of teh shirt...do you think the death threats he was getting become actual attempts to hurt him or his family? Also, inside the WWF storyline, burning the shirt was way more effective...basically burning Hulkamania to the ground!!! ATTENTION!!!
  19. Slaughter was kick-ass during his Title run from Rumble to Mania...this may be his best promo... Outside that, how many others in the US at that time can say they have a photo with Saddam smiling arm and arm with them and be allowed to travel around spreading the hate? Not many...Slaughter = WIN!! J/K
  20. Jump someone on TV in a tag Title match, get shot at person's singles title on next PPV.....its in the rule book! The really is Luger's last big stage match as mobile and limber Lex, before stiff, too big, and not very limber Lex took over...
  21. From here through the Summer of 1991, Nikita was fuckin awesome...shades of the Nikita that could have been without Maggie's accident in Oct 86 and into 87...
  22. Sting is another one of the MAJOR Stars of that era that was below average on the mic...Never got a good, full coherent focused promo through without throwing in loud noises or how "Jacked" he was, etc.. etc...He tended to ramble through thoughts of what was going on at that time in his career storywise... EDIT - He'd get lost in interviews, and just try to cover with something "WHoo...I am so pumped Ross...." "The Stinger is pumped!!"
  23. Was Steiner EVER that good on the mic, even 10 years later? And I am a HUGE fan of the Big Poppa Pump 2000-2001 WCW Title run of destruction...but on the mic, not so much...unless he's calling someone names or meshing words together that dont make sense...
  24. You know, I agree with most of you on this...I am tired of hearing Steiner talk about how this was done to de-rail him and his push...someone that wants to be the man and move up a level woudl learn to do their best and adapt when things are going wrong and he didnt. And if Flair was the wuss Steiner always says he was, he could have bullied his way into getting something out of Flair, as others have done in matches where they felt they were being taken advantage of or being made to look bad. How much credence is given to Flair wanting to drop the title to him that night that he says? He was sloppy and not ready for the primetime moment....he'd get there, but not yet. Back to the tag ranks with you...
