  1. What does that even mean? Of course Edge was more of a national star. So is Hornswaggle. It's also news to me that Edge has headlined for more than one major "territory."
  2. Well, that and the steroids.
  3. The way the voting is set up, though, the small number of Euro candidates makes it likely that someone will go in. Realistically, though, some of these guys shouldn't even be voted on because they're such easy candidates for those w/ Euro knowledge.
  4. Non-wrestler picks are unlimited.
  5. Pillman was probably more consistent until the accident. Pillman seemed to be a lot better while in booking limbo than Owen was, with stuff like the Wright and Badd matches in '95 which were a hell of a lot better than anyone would have expected, and he was always dependable for a good match during post-Blondes, pre-California Brian run where he was going someplace worse than nowhere. I don't know if Owen has anything comparable other than maybe the Mark Henry match while he was stuck losing to HHH most of the time.
  6. You guys are making me want to buy all of this stuff. Where can I get Cornettes new DVD? Is this the same one Bix is talking about when he mentioned the MX rarities set? Yes.

  8. I'm trying. The mild background noise on the newest shows is from doing them in a small room with the air conditioner on instead of the huge open living room/dining room/kitchen area of the previous shows, so shows after the next week or two when there's absolutely no more need for AC should be fine. I don't know what the distortion on the Kurt show is. I didn't use more noise reduction than usual so it shouldn't be that. Hopefully it's just a one time fluke but I'll be overly meticulous in post-producing Kurt part 2.
  9. Part 1: http://www.cagesideseats.com/2009/9/4/1015...odcast-9-4-09-w Part 2 goes up Sun or Mon.
  10. Those two matches have been around for a bit now, I think. I had them on a History of Midnight Express v. Rock & Roll Express comp. No, the Philly matches from '86 on the new set were never circulating before (same goes for the version of Cornette-JJ used on the set, though an RF version had been available). Watched the 8/86 match. It was good but I didn't like it nearly as much as the 2/86 match or the America's Team match.
  11. Dusty over Hogan. Much more engaging promos, much better wrestler at his peak (in the '70s Texas Outlaws footage Dusty looks pretty close to Murdoch), and was better at carrying a match with charisma alone. Watched disc #1 of the MX rarities set. The 2/86 Philly R&R match is the best match between the two I've ever seen, and as good as any R&R match I've seen. So anyway, as far as MX/R&R or MX/Fants, I'd say R&R. I think the Fantastics feud is looked at better by some because it's seen as everything the R&R matches had other than Ricky Morton level selling, only with better highspots. After seeing more of the R&R series, they clearly had tons of cool spots as good as or better than what the Fantastics did (aside from the top-rope finishers like the Rocket Launcher and the knucklelock tower senton thing). Of note, Morton's hurricanrana was really awesome and out of control looking, plus they did the slingshot -> sunset flip spot much better (smoother, faster) than the Rockers and the Orient Express did in their famous Rumble '91 match and Cornette's notes about Gibson's speed in his prime are right-on. Also, it's hard to describe, but the MX-R&R matches have a certain rhythm to them via their scary chemistry as opponents that I haven't seen between anyone else aside from the Hardys and MNM in their Rumble '07 match.
  12. In which I write about the WXO in the first part of a new series on startup promotions.
  13. Ok, I have no idea what this is about. Details/C&P plz.
  14. Is the Josh Gross thread from the UFC 100 aftermath?
  15. Best parody piece that I've read in a really long time, Re: Rey's Mexican newspaper interview.
  16. It's not about whatever specific sex acts or anything like that. It's about you, talking to us about what you used to pleasure yourself to in detail. People don't want to hear/talk about that. Ever. There's a big difference between talking about an urban legend that involves Jimmy Valiant touching himself and YOU TALKING TO US about your self-gratification nostalgia. The porn star autograph signing example was about the awkward ridiculousness of them. As a great man once put it: "...porn star autograph signings – what the FUCK do you say at those, 'Hey, I really liked jerking off to your double anal scenes?'" It's about the implications. There's a BIG difference between comparing aging wrestlers to aging porn stars in a way more like "It's like watching a porn star trying to relive her past glory at 60 years old" or Bruce Mitchell's various gay porn jokes in the Torch over the years and "I loved watching Ginger Lynn suck cock, get banged and take it up the ass." At least you don't use your real name as your username (like other people with similar posts including actual full blown porn DVD reviews), but people know who you are and you've dealt with enough internet crazies that it's not out of the realm of possibility that someone could set up a big flashing ""JDW of ____ talks about his masturbation history on this public, google-able board here" page/post whatever, and I also thought you were smart enough to realize that.
  17. As jacked up as Rey is now, he was much bigger from '02 to '05, like Brockito Lesnar.
  18. There were a lot more than 1 Dynamite-Davey Boy match.
  19. Same here, for the record.
  20. I'm kind of stupified that we are such prudes that we can't talk about the sex in Porn, but we don't think twice about talking in detail about wrestlers slicing their foreheads, or the details of Misawa's neck getting snapped in taking a wrestling move, or the details of Benoit's muerder rampage, or the homoerotic aspects of a video piece that hurt Jeff Jarrett's babyface heat in Memphis. This is a bit like the fetish Mike Oles would have whenever someone used the term "shit" or "crap". John Honestly if you can't figure out why people might not want to read about your sexual fetishes and 80's pornographic icons you regularly beat off to twenty years ago I have no clue what to say in response. Yeah...this is the blunt version of what I was trying to say.
  21. That, and, well, do we have to be blunt about why we want this discussion to end? It should be obvious. Hint: It's the same reason that many of us are confused by the nature of porn star autograph signings.
  22. It never damaged Hulk Hogan/Warrior/Sting. Parents should have known men cannot get that big naturally on the schedule they have. Hogan was badly damaged. The Hulk Hogan vitamin company went from huge sales to bankruptcy in months due to the steroid scandals. Warrior wasn't "publicly/officially" a steroid user until the McMahon trial, which was in '94, and he returned to the WWF in '96 where he wasn't pushed as a kids' attraction nearly as much as before. Sting wasn't involved in the scandals and while he used steroids for a long time, he had a much more natural looking physique.
  23. John, please stop. Seriously, I beg you.
  24. By the way, is there a good source for the earlier footage? SMV has some but not a lot, and I know there are '96 shows floating around somewhere (including one where the tape in the camera runs out during the main event and they tacked on footage of Ian describing what happened).
  25. Jerry Lawler is still doing great, his match last year when he teamed up with Chris Michaels against Todd Morton and Bull Pain was an excellent match. In 2009, he has a pair of really good matches with Jeff Daniels and a great match with Bill Dundee on 3/14/09. Also, Lawler had another with Dundee at XCW-Midwest but I haven't seen that yet. Yeah, Lawler in the WWF has never really been much (largely due to booking and opponents) since that match but his indy matches have still been top-flight stuff.
