  1. Watts had a bunch of fake Riders in his place during that run (in a wink wink way like the guest Machines in the WWF) so that gimmick wins.
  2. At the beginning of 2008, there was also the addition of the HD PPVs, which are $10 more on some cable systems. Also, the point isn't that $5 more a month isn't going to break the bank, it's that people have a point where they feel the shows are too expensive and going over $40 made a bad situation worse.
  3. On one hand, I'm fairly certain that move was invented before Santo was born, so it's a ludicrous claim. On the other, we live in a world where Paris Hilton somehow managed to legally trademark such an incredibly common phrase as "That's hot", so who the fuck knows. Gory Guerrero invented it while teaming with Santo Sr.
  4. I like Rock-HHH better than Fuyuki-Hayabusa, too, but Fuyuki has the best individual performance in either match. Rock-HHH feels more like a collaborative effort with WWE agent pacing while the FMW match feels like it's all Fuyuki.

  6. Beating up Bubba the Love Sponge was well-deserved and doesn't demonstrate mental instability. Not being able to control your temper and lashing out violently in a work environment kinda does. What he said.

  9. He even had a signature bump to play that one up.
  10. I don't think wanting to beat him up qualifies as a psychological issue. Who doesn't want to punch that guy? As much as he's a terrible person, cheap-shotting him while screaming "THIS IS FOR HAITI!" is pretty out there. Didn't she also make a video where she was screaming about slavery at a statue of Abraham Lincoln in an airport (or something like that)? I feel for her but she really does seem like she needs a lot of mental health care. Going back to wrestling any time soon could also make things worse.
  11. Agreed, maybe the best "bigger bio when we have more space" obit Dave's ever done, both in terms of cool stories and giving a good picture of the career & person.

  13. I guess there are certain markers for heart disease that remain visible?
  14. Greg Oliver has a little bit more info and comments from Doug's widow at Slam.
  15. Wasn't he still married? Did he happen to not have any foster children at the moment? I don't get it.

    Peculiarities

It had been his nickname from the beginning and this was 4 years after his debut and the movie's release that it suddenly became his only ring name. "Val Venis" was no longer mentioned until they dropped it.
  20. Last word is they're taping new stuff so it won't be disappearing at the end of the month.

Awesome, I've finally found a video of Frenchy's Studio:

    Peculiarities

Was this only for the French language TV? The segment on YouTube is blingual: Pat Patterson also did the same brunch segment after him. Some of those are also on YouTube. Years later, Frenchy Martin had a similar role with "Frency Martin's Studio" on the French & Spanish language shows.

WWE experimenting with changing Val Venis's ring name to "The Big Valbowski" for no apparent reason. WWE having to change Ric Flair's name to Rick Flair for a few weeks several years ago due to a lawsuit filed by Jim Corckett. '80s All Japan bringing in a random foreigner (whose name I've forgotten) in what may have been an alien gimmick as "The V.". He never made it to TV. WWE re-gimmicking the Mexican minis they had been using with various generic masked characters even though the previous mix of their Mexican gimmicks and a few minis of WWE guys was starting to get over. WCW announcing their NBC deal before it was signed and then it never happening. Shane Douglas living in a bubble and doing his "DICK FLAIR SUCKS BISCHOFFS'S AAASSSSSSSSSSS!" promo at Wrestlepalooza '98 in a former regular WCW TV taping venue while Flair and Bischoff were in the middle of their war.
  24. Even the son-in-law's contract has the death clause. That's pretty cold. Which reminds me, what ever came of Sid Vicious' wanting to sue WCW/Time Warner for the top rope kick spot? Dismissed: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/883214-...case-law/page/2

Probably the same reason they use indy wrestlers in various roles as extras: It's where their contacts are. They needed a guy who could somersault around the ring so they picked Hector.
