I bet a poll of the readers would also reveal that they're looking forward to seeing "The Muppets" more than TLC. Would that mean Dave needs to cover more puppetry?
-
Did some googling: The story was actually that it was in the spread for a WWE/LJN/Nintendo contest promotion but someone found it and it wasn't there:
-
They had shot promotional photos with Bret and Hulk in a tug of war for the belt for Summerslam '93. Did that picture ever get leaked? I've heard people say that the ad made it into an issue of Nintendo Power before the plans were changed. There has to be someone who can check.
-
Which pic was that? Michaels in a NWO shirt.

[1995-04-15-ECW-Hostile City Showdown] Tommy Dreamer vs Raven
Bix replied to Loss's topic in April 1995
I see what you did there. -
There is truth in that but UFC/Yahoo Sports is a significant part of Dave's bread and butter. I get the impression Dave also likes Ben in the sense he would actually read his POV before putting it up. Well, there was that column where Dave accidentally posted his email exchange with Ben including his advice and the original draft.

Gary Hart felt that getting Gino away from his local connections in Texas would at least slow him down, though in his book it seemed like he realized in hindsight that it wouldn't have mattered much.
-
Checkd the book, and that wasn't where he mentioned Tito. It was an interview later, IIRC. That's the only name I remember.
-
As I think someone mentioned in the other thread, Bret even said in his book that was told (by either Strongbow or Patterson IIRC) that Tito was one of the other names on the list they wrote up of potential new champions.
-
One thing that gets forgotten about Bret's early push as champion is how hard they pushed the "fighting champion" gimmick early on, with something like 3 title defenses on TV the week of the last SNME special. That was another radical departure from WWF booking.

[1995-01-04-AJW] Manami Toyota & Sakie Hasegawa vs Kyoko Inoue & Takako Inoue
Bix replied to Loss's topic in January 1995
I don't have the yearbook yet but I'm pretty sure I saw this on a Brian Socha Best of 1995 comp years ago and remember it being gallingly bad. I had not envisioned Manami Toyota as the homeless woman's Sabu. Childs sums it up perfectly. Thankfully I also bought a tape with some much better AJW matches. -
Hm.
-
Steiners clips were also in the Uncensored ads before they showed that video.
-
I'm waiting for him to die first. Maybe I should write it now so it's ready then, though...

Reby Sky on FormSpring:

Papa Shango was a character in an otherwise current WWF board game in the mid-'90s. It seemed like the gimmick was going to be revived but got cancelled.
-
It could just be the TMZ effect and knowing how much denial he was (is?) in, but he sure seemed like he was in for something bad very soon before rehab and now he's been kicked out.
-
Kicked out of rehab for drinking, sent home, jailed on $1 million bond. I want to make it clear that I don't mean this as a joke, but he's gonna die soon, isn't he?

The post-Angle requirements are 15 years or 35 years of age with at least 10 years full-time as a wrestler.

[1995-02-11-USWA-TV] PG-13 and Doug Gilbert & Tommy Rich
Bix replied to Loss's topic in February 1995
Jamie wasn't wrestling or managing in '88 but he was just kinda there with his dad. The big angle was Sid Vicious breaking his neck with the full nelson. -
Pro Wrestling Legitimacy would be a great name for a workrate indy "where wins and losses matter."
-
He was supposed to be Kimo without the Jesus-y parts. Does anyone know exactly how many times he was supposed to come back as Papa Shango but it was dropped? Besides the Backlund urban legend, there was a Papa Shango card in an otherwise relatively current WWF board game years after he had stopped using the gimmick.

The Observer logo isn't pretty but it isn't really comparable to the "Lisa Simpson going down on a guy" Olympic logo.
