  1. I look at more Jack. Jack Brisco vs The Gestapo (1978) This is a showcase match for Jack. His quickness is on display. We get a taste of his mat work. He really comes across as the best in the world. We get an interesting tag match next. Jack Brisco vs. Austin Idol (07/06/79) First up I'll agree with Parv that the talking head is Keirn, but not sure. Secondly, he's wrong about the finish. That was a false finish. The wrestlers kept going afterwards, the ref didn't deliver a 3 count. "Keirn" called it but was wrong. So he blew it or the promotion told him to so to give Idol a big win on t.v. The match itself was a blast. Idol was a real fun heel with loads of charisma. They can't work a technical masterpiece, but can work a great match none the less. We see some great hair pulling spots by Idol. He gets by with some fun heel tactics.Idol is great at working the crowd here. Jack uses the headlock to keep Idol at bay. He mixes the headlock up with high spots. Now both guys are attempting their Figure 4's and various spots to work the leg. The crowd totally eats the match up. We build to the finish that isn't really a finish .Brisco gives Idol an outside in belly to back suplex while Idol hits him with a foreign object that Parv and Keirn thought was the finish. I'll go 3 1/2*. This is a perfect example of Brisco looking like Steamboat when it came to working a match. Parv I thought you'd give Idol more credit for engaging the crowd.

These are some of my thoughts on matches that Parv 1st looked at.The clips are interesting to see how Jack works, but again for the most part we're dealing with clips Bobby Shane looked like a fun heel to watch.. I thought the Terry Funk match looked amazing. It makes you sad that one doesn't exist in full. The Flair match looks like they too have a MOTY contender in them. It looked very Steamboat/Flair esque. The Brisco/Irwin t.v match shows how great of around performer he is. We get a taste of him working holds, we see him sell for a bit, and his charisma was on display.

I looked at Jack's tour of Japan from 79. This is a tour of Japan for Jack Brisco in 1979. I'll edit it my thoughts when more matches come up. I'll take a look at the 1st one I watched. Jack Brisco vs. Tatsumi Fujinami 4/27/79 This is kind of a dream match. Brisco the former NWA World Champion, and one of if not the best wrestlers in the U.S from the 70's. On another hand we have Tatsumi Fujinami one of the great workers of Japan in the 80's. It opens up with Jack going after the leg. Fujinami gets a rope break and works a headlock. We get a rope running spot that payoffs with a Fujinami drop kick. Back to the headlock that Brisco counters into a hammerlock. Brisco with a big elobow to the shoulder, follows up with a knee drop into the hammerlock. Brisco works over Fujinami in the corner. We get a rope break. Brisco with s headlock and a throw of Fujinami. Brisco goes for an Adominal stretch on the mat. A counter by Fujinami leads to a rope break. Fujinami goes after the arm. Jack is great at selling the arm. Fujinami moves Jack into a butterfly suplex, followed by a Norther Lights Suplex, and then a gut wrench suplex with Jack fighting each of them. A back drop by Fujinami. Jack gets a double leg take down. Fujinami counters into a head scissors, and then moves into a cravat. Atomic knee drop that looks like he got his back. A leg crank by Jack into the Figure 4. He goes for another one and is kicked outside. Slingshot dive by Fujinami. Jack with a outside in suplex. Fujinami goes for an Oklahoma role that Jack reverses for the win. I'll go 2 3/4* on this. Thoughts I liked this match but it had flaws. The match is only a little bit past 10 minutes. So a lot of the work didn't get a chance to breath. When Brisco sold he was great. I felt he didn't get a chance to sell enough because it was go go go go. I felt the match had too many momentum changes. The big suplex flurry could have been better suited in the finishing stretch. Jack Brisco vs. Antonio Inoki 5/10/79 Man this is sad. 8 years ago they had this classic. Here not even close. No more intricate mat work, no more battling for position.Man just sad. We get Inoki take about 90% of the match. We see Inoki work the arm. Then he goes to the leg later. His Indian Death Lock was pretty great. To me the best part of the match was Inoki had on his Indian Death Lock, Brisco gets the ropes and follows up with an attempted suplex but the damage to the leg causes him not to hold Inoki's weight. What also made this moment great was Brisco selling the leg prior to the suplex attempt. We get some more Inoki on top. He goes back to the Indian Death Lock. Brisco sells big. Inoki on top bombs away. He misses, and Brisco attempts a Figure 4 that Inoki rolls him up for 3. The finish was good on a bad match. 3/4* Like This http://placetobenation.com/titans-of-wrestling/ This was clearly a step down from his stuff in Japan in 74 and 76. I feel him and Fujinami have a great match in them. I know Inoki and him have had one in the past. Brisco's rep as best U.S worker from the U.S in the 70's took a hit here. In my eyes Billy Robinson might be the best. I know he's from England but he should be classified as a U.S worker. The Destroyer has a case to the throne too. Bockwinkle 70's footage might be an issue. Buddy Rose is a dark horse. His 80's footage is another story. Race isn't a contender for me. Flair's lack of complete matches hurt him.Terry Funk has to be in the conversation too. Verne Gagne is another contender. I'm curious on where things shake out for me.
  6. The every week is the key.
  7. I agree with this completely. Make checking into the network a daily or weekly thing. When the network 1st launched I was excited about what new houseshow or episode of whatever was being added. I have no problem with a big data dump, but I need follow up. Give me 20 episodes of WCCW, the following week add another one.

  9. They also set up a new header called ECW Exposed Live which has key moments and some home video releases like November to Remember 95.

    Tito Santana

I just rewatched Robinson vs. Tito from 81. From what I saw I thought Robinson looked pretty good. We didn't see a ton of him on offense. What we did see was pretty great. The best part of the match I thought were Robinson's big bumps. When Tito was in control he didn't do much for me. He used a headlock a lot but really didn't do anything with it. I really liked the European upper cut exchange, I wish Tito used that move more often.Overall I felt it was solid, but nothing I need to see anytime soon again.

    Billy Robinson

I just watched this one.AWA World Heavyweight Title: Verne Gagne © vs. Billy Robinson, 9/7/74. Comiskey Park. We get about 13 minutes of the match with a clip here and clip there. I'm not sure the total time on it maybe KHawk can help with this. It doesn't come across as good as the match from Japan from the 2, but still damn good. Verne is just going after the arm. Billy is constantly looking for an escape. He finally goes all carny in this and escapes and gets Verne's leg. Billy is awesome at attacking the leg.It ends and starts up on the next weeks television show. Here we get a couple of minutes to the build to the finish. This is the weirdest counts I've ever seen out of a ref.

He also wrestled a bear so that's a check in the positive side.

    The Destroyer

That 69 match against Baba is required viewing. I like the Mil matches, but felt the mat work on the 1st fall of the 1st match kinda was just there. It didn't have any real impact. It was cool looking, but lacked a hook. One of his biggest strengths is his character work. He's also one of the great audio wrestlers. I just rewatched his match with Hiro Matsuda and really liked it. The mat work was really good and told a story. The results of the mat work had consequences. The match mixed in a variety of strikes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4T14M_J6Lo
  16. I thought this was interesting to watch. I thought it was cool to see the NWA champ in face mode. They drew 10,000+. It's a neat look that gives Will's talking point about having a face NWA champ some credence. I agree with Parv that the mat work wasn't that great. I can see it being a hang up.I don't view it as one because Memphis's fans weren't conditioned on intricate mat work like Japan,or Florida at the time. So Brisco being a good champion went with a more story telling narrative. Parv has a lot of good points here. For a master at crowd psychology he does little to engage the crowd. Maybe he thought he shouldn't because the the NWA title is on the line. Still when Brisco worked the back and then the leg that was top notch stuff. The body scissors was tremendous by Lawler. The chain finish could have been teased better. Lawler matched up better with Harley style and had a tremendous match. Though I think these guys have a kick ass match in them if Brisco did what he did here and they'd play more into Lawler's strengths like punches, bumping, and pissing the crowd off.. 3 1/4*

    Ricky Santana

I recently watched a couple of his matches from Crockett when he was low on the card and he was great in them. He's a guy who if he had a little more size on him would be talked about as a great baby face in the Tito Santana mold. I don't think he'll make my list but people shouldn't out right dismiss him. As is he's a damn good face who didn't get too many opportunities stateside. The times he did he delivered.
  18. From reading the Geigle piece in the Observer you can also look at who was president of the NWA and see trends in how the champ was booked.

    Dory Funk Jr.

I moved all the talk of the touring NWA champ to a new thread in the pro wrestling forum. This thread is for Dory.
  20. I thought both were excellent matches. That's the great thing about wrestling if you don't care for one match their might be one more to someone's liking.
  21. Man I disagree. I thought this was really good. The 1st fall we see some early mat work to start. Right here is the crux of the 1st fall. Brisco starts going after the back. He's doing a good job of attacking it. Jumbo reverses the tide now in payback shows Jack that he can work over a back just as good as he can. Of course being a world class seller Jack is great at putting over all of Jumbo's offense. The finish is like a dead lift overhead belly to belly suplex by Jumbo. We start the 2nd fall and Jack is selling the back big. Jumbo is real aggressive here. Jack though looks to be setting a trap. He springs it and gets an ankle pick which leads to him going to work on Jumbo's leg. The work is top notch here and Jumbo returns the favor by selling it. We get the leg work for a few minutes. Jumbo tries to slow Brisco down by grabbing a headlock. Brisco counters it with an atomic knee breaker. He follows it up with a figure 4 for the finish. The 3rd fall Jack is pointing at Jumbo. The 3rd fall starts with Jack starting where he left off in the 2nd and attacks the leg. Again Brisco is great at targeting the leg. Jumbo attempts a comeback by going back to focusing on Brisco's back. Brisco goes back to attempt the Figure 4. Jumbo shows that he learned from Jack in the 2nd fall and small packages him for the win. 4 1/4* match. I thought they told a great story in the ring. The mat work wasn't on display but both guys had excellent selling, psychology, and had a lot of interesting things going on that kept me invested.
  22. In the 6/11/77 match with Jumbo you see shades of a Cesaro/Sheamus match in there . Especially in the 1st fall.
  23. It was a title made for Jumbo. They really built it up and he would defend it against a who's who of wrestling. He defended it against a variety of former world champs and other big stars . The fans began to view it as a world title.

In the draw he did shit can the damage to the leg after the figure 4.He sells it at 1st then drops it to transition to a high spot. I'm looking forward to see if I see what you see in him. I've seen plenty of Dory but will do a revisit. I think your mask argument is off. If you look at the Destroyer, or Misterio they have no problem getting their expressions over. On the Dory likes to put his weight on opponents this was very evident in the draw. It's also a trick that wrestlers used to blow up their opponent. I'm not saying Dory was doing this, but Flair did mention it on his recent interview with Austin.

Parv I never said he was boring. I said his expressions are non existent. I liked the work in the draw. What took it down for me was that he didn't emote pain. When you go an hour you are working holds your opponent needs to sell them. If HBK did this in his run he'd be accused of being unprofessional. Also if you're arguing against the board. It can't argue back because it doesn't have an opinion. Now people who post on this board might say he's boring . It's not fair to say it's a PWO thing. Pete F likes him their are others who post here that do too. So It's not fair to lump everyone together on the board .
