  1. He did a Ninja gimmick in SMW that was a fail. Every turn is SMW he came across bland. Even in some angles that were bad ass with DWB and Ron Wright he lessened the angle. So many other pieces of talent would have gotten over huge with the angle. The only time to me in SMW that he came across as a main eventer was when he had a street fight with DWB. The match was so great he came across as the #1 guy. Still he was a good worker who I loved see work the Horseman in the 80's in studio bouts.
  2. Regal vs Arn Anderson Superbrawl 94. I watched this a few years ago and didn't rreally stick out to me. I've always been a fan of their 10/93 bout. Well on rewatch this is an awesome match with Regal just being nasty with destroying Arn's nose with cross faces, open palm strikes, rubbing his forearm into it. Arn was great here too by being Arn Anderson. Just a kick ass match. I really need to rewatch the bout from 93 to see which one I like better. The mat work was great, I loved Regal's strikes, the finish was pretty great. Even with this being as awesome as it was I feel a bit guilty by watching Dundee on the outside and wondering what type of bout he could have had with Regal.
  3. Another guy who was pretty consistant was Tully Blanchard. He seemed like he had a good match with a variety of opponents. Another guy who seemed hit or miss was Shane Douglas. He has plenty of good bouts under his belt, but had his share of shitty ones.
  4. They have a lot of overlap opponents to look at for example they have HBK,Martel, Hennig, Taker, Dibiase, Bad News, Savage, etc.
  5. Why would the comparison stop in '94? He's comparing them throughout the same time frame in the WWF. Tito was gone from the WWF I believe happened in 94 or late 93. It's a fair comp becuase they can use same time frame, same federation, a lot of the same opponents.
  6. I was wondering if Somers worked Portland since him and Rose were tag partners in the AWA and came up together in the business?
  7. I would put Steamboat down as really consistant. Everyone has stinkers, of all those listed as stinkers they aren't stinkers. I can't say about the Muta match haven't seen it in forever, but I do remember not liking it. Some other guys mentioned and not mentioned are Eaton,Arn, Tully, Smothers, and Candido are pretty damn solid. Christian is another that is pretty solid. I always thought JBL could be pretty hit or miss. Batista was another one that was up and down. Sting would fall into the hit or miss category.

  9. Buddy Rose vs. Jimmy Snuka (SF 8/26/78) I watched this tonight and this is a total blast. Rose was awesome here and made Snuka look like one of the best around. Like Dylan has mentioned in prior Buddy matches we get some awesome rope running spots. Snuka does some nice looking leapfrogs off these spots. Later in the bout we see Buddy take some of the best arm drags from Snuka. Buddy got so much air off of them. Pretty much Snuka controls the bout by working the arm. Snuka doesn't do anything too engaging but Buddy sells his ass off here and his facials are tremendous. Now when Buddy takes control he works on Snuka's back. Now the work here is great, and does a lot of great stuff aimed on the back. We head toward the finish and Snuka captures him in his Full Nelson. The Full Nelson is Snuka's finish. The bell expires and we get a 15 minute time limit draw. Afterwards Snuka is killing Rose with the Full Nelson. This was a great studio bout where Snuka controls about 60-70% of the bout and looks like he is going to beat Rose when the bell expires. This was a perfectly executed studio bout to build to a big pay day at the Cow Palace. To top it off we get a great Rose promo saying he had Snuka right where he wanted him, and how he was going to use the ropes to spring off for the win. The whole presentation here was gold.
  10. One thing I will say about Buddy is when he is in multiple people matches is that he has the Michael Jordan factor. Where even when interesting things are happening in the ring you still are watching Buddy. I remember going to a Bulls game live against the Spurs, and all I did was watch Jordan, even if he was just standing at half court when someone was shooting free throws. The reason your eyes are glued to those guys you are expecting something amazing from them and are afraid to miss it by turning your attention away from them.
  11. Steiner Brothers vs Nasty Boys This was much better than I remembered. Really chaotic with some stiff shots, the Nasties bumped like crazy for the Steiners, who were over like hell, but also looked very strong on offense (in their odd way). Good dynamic, made sense, really a super solid match, with a good build to the end. Both teams look like big deal here, no wonder the WWF grabbed the Nasties. The Nasty Boys were in Austin for Comic Con in November. They came to the local promotion that night to watch the show. They did some stuff and let the fans buy them beer all night. I asked Saggs what he thought their greatest match was and he siad it was this one.
  12. I watched both of the Adonis bouts, and I got them confused. To me the 1st one of the 2 was the better match. The 2nd bout had some cool stuff, but match one was superior. It was cool seeing Rose work the stomach of Adonis in the 1st 2 falls. How many wrestlers can work the stomach and make it compelling? Well Buddy Rose can. Plus Adonis was great with his facials and selling. The 1st 2 falls were full of greatness. The 3rd fall wasn't much, but how Rose went after the eye was really awesome. I really dug Adonis's big knee from the top rope was great and a big move to set up the spinning toehold. Both guys really worked hard. The 2nd match was good, but in my opinion it gets outclassed by the 1st one.
  13. I remember the 1st one being pretty good, and the 2nd was really an excellent bout. I haven't seen them in a while so my recollections are pretty spotty. Buddy has so many choice bouts that the Adonis matches kinda get lost in shuffle of my memory.
  14. That was a really fun show. I'm really starting to look forward to the AWA set now.
  15. I watched the match of Lawler vs Santana that Sagunda Caida reviewed a while back. Man is this a total blast. They worked a total Memphis style match in front of the MSG faithful and had the crowd eating everything up and asking for seconds. The audio made it seem the Garden was shaking from the rafters. Their is so much great bullshit on display. Lawler telling Tito to kiss his feet to Tito spitting on them. Lawler stalling and talking shit. After the match they are brawling into the crowd. Just a fun match with hardly and physicality to it.
  16. That bio was top choice stuff.
  17. I have always been a fan of his work. He's been an underrated worker for some time. In the smarkchoice poll I had him in my top 100, but he didn't get a lot of traction. He has a large body of work out there to prove his greatness. I want to talk about his quality of work on a night to night basis. All I can say from 88-91 in Houston, Texas at the Summitt Santana had one of the better matches of the night. I saw him work Ron Bass, Curt Hennig, and Tito Santana are the ones I remember. They were all really strong matches. He lost so much the people didn't believe in him.
  18. A pretty good bout. Chono is kinda like Jake Roberts in the way he uses the STF as the focal point of his bouts, and builds his psychology around it. I thought this was pretty spirited match. The spots on the ramp was fun. When Muta did the sprint down the ramp he shit canned the work Chono did on the knee minutes later.Still I liked this bout.
  19. Take away some of the muffed spots this was fun. Just 2 hosses that beat the crap out of each other.
  20. Cool show. I would categorize me as a hardcore fan and I have never seen any wrestling from the Maritimes.
  21. Man these guys are awesome together. Everything Vader does looks devestating. Those punches. Sting comebacks are great. Just a big time match.
  22. I enjoyed this. It was cool seeing the NJ stars working a Southern tag. They did it well.
  23. Match was ok. Finish was the shits. It is odd though we have Flair and Savage headlined the last ppv, and now both are being pushed down and or out. The Savage heel turn does sounds interesting.
  24. I thought this was awesome. Steamboat and Douglas were both really great as FIP. The shine section was good. Windham brought his high end offense to the table. Pillman took a lot of neat bumps and brought high energy to the match. A really quality match.
