  1. From the master recapper CRZ: http://slashwrestling.com/monday/smackdown.010913 Maybe it's on youtube as well if someone wants to dig it up. It came across as really, really, really bad. Awful. Jaw dropping. John
  2. True. What's the Kobashi Award? I would have thought the Most Outstanding, but he won few of those. He won loads of MOTY, so that might be the one. Benoit ruined things as the Technical was headed for him. The Announcer Award will be the JR. Underrated is the Bobby. Surprising that Box Office isn't already the Hulk. John
  3. You're right. "Bad Steph" tends to run together in my mind, while Trip's awfulness stands out. John
  4. So was Brock. And it was the wrong type of heel heat. John
  5. There were a lot of awful parts of that Tribute show. Steph was #1 the worst, far and away. "Choked Up Trip" was high up there on the second level of awful behind Steph. John
  6. You're 100% right. Just an awful segment considering how he and Shawn fucked over Owen over the years. John
  7. We use to joke about Steph becoming the Eric Kane of the WWF/WWE. There would have been nothing wrong with her getting divorced from Trip, hook up with others, but every few years get remarried to Trip. Steph going Biker Girl hooking up with Taker would have been a hoot, with Vince going batshit over Taker turning his little girl into White Trash. The could even have gotten a fake tat on Steph that would have to be "laser removed" after she broke up with Taker. Jericho... I don't know how well that would have worked as Chris just didn't have any charisma with her, likely because he probably though she was a giant pain in the ass. Big contrast to the charisma he had with Trish, which is another storyline the WWE fucked up seven ways to Sunday. Kurt, on the other hand... they had good interaction. Of course one of the more interesting ones they could have done was her and Eric. They didn't go far with that one, but early on there was a good hate vibe between the two, which could have turned into quality Mortal Enemy Luv. And also drive Vince nuts that his baby girl is sleeping with his old WCW Enemy. This shit isn't that hard, and they could have written so many storylines with different wrestlers having different relationships and charisma with her that it would have kept her interesting for years. Trip was of course afraid that the other person in the storyline would end up banging her in real life, and he's lose his meal ticket. After all... he ended up banging her in real life when they started doing a storyline together. Yeah... "Paranoid, Delusional" needs to be added to the front of "Douchbag". John
  8. Oh god... I forgot about that one. Jesus... that one was awful. John
  9. Trip-Y2J laid a bomb. Folks should have known it going in, but perhaps ego made them make sure to put the Title on last. Which is strange since back in 1992, they put Hogan-Sid on last, and Savage-Flair for the title (and a face win) in the middle. My only thought is that Trip & Steph were delusional over the reaction Trip got for his "comeback" earlier in the year and thought he was more over than Rock or Hogan. John
  10. Yikes! She also had a funny "voter registration" thing going that was ironic relative to the wingnuts going batshit over ACORN. John
  11. BTW, how many pro wrestling riffs did Dave have in his WEC report on the site? I lost count at some point... the Paul Heyman one got me. John
  12. *laugh* John
  13. Trip was traded back to Raw for Booker and the Dudleys. I know this is stupid because talking about making the WWE Draft better is useless: they're idiots and don't really have a clue how to make it work. That said, I don't think the "trade" concept is a bad one when having draft night. But I would make anyone drafted be ineligible to be traded. In other words, the GM's could trade, but it would be used to fill holes caused by the draft. Lose a young prospect? Raw might have one, but they'd like a tag team back. Lose a world title contender? Raw may have one who hs just finished his run on top. Etc. The draft isn't too hard. But they're pretty ass backwards. Joh
  14. "... especially the ones who think HHH hate is so 2002." -Dave I think it's a sign of how gunshy about rolling out Trip Hate that so many are that it's taken until 2010 for us to open a Douchebag Trip thread. "Pro Old JR" has 19 pages, and isn't half as grouchy as Trip is a douche. John
  15. Either you're really good at sarcasm, or I was asleep for that. My text sarcasm reader is currently broken, so I can't be certain which. I was wondering if anyone mentioned Goldberg yet in the thread. Trip just fucked him up the ass royally. John
  16. My favorite douchebag Trip moments: * pinning Austin *twice* in the three fall match on No Way Out (in the two tougher matches frankly) to set up facing Austin after Mania with Austin getting his win back. Trip stayed heel and drew Austin into a heel trio with him and Vince which made Austin look like a lesser heel rather than a stronger won cleaning Trip's clock That put the company into another round of Austin-Taker with Kane mixed in that died. People love to blame this on Austin going hell, but lots of major faces have gone hell and done business, especially early on. See Hogan over in the other company. Austin bombed almost out of the gate. I chalk most of it up to Trip being a douchebag by not going opposite Austin and paying Austin back as strongly as Austin had put over Trip. * being unwilling to go to the hilt on the Trip-Steph-Angle triangle The storyline was over with the fans. It was adding an interesting element to the Trip-Steph storyline, and getting over Kurt strong than he'd ever been to that point. The Trip just quickly bigfooted it, tossed off Angle as being light in the loafers, beat him in the no DQ match the following PPV, which hilariously led into Angle pinning Rock for the Title on the PPV after that. Trip makes Kurt look like shit, then uses Kurt to undercut Rock. Mix in the element of not being willing to be cuckolded on TV by Kurt banging Steph. All of Trip's insecurities rolled into one douchebaggy run of fucking people and storylines over. John
  17. HHH must have shited himself out of fear when Jericho came in. He wasn't fully established yet as a true star, and Jericho was coming with a huge buzz and awesome production behind him, arguing with the red hot Rock on TV. Wonder why just a few months later he was feuding with X-Pac... Seriously, Jericho had the potential to be a huge money maker and megastar for the WWF, maybe not on the Rock level, but well above HHH. If there was one guy to kill quickly, that was him. This was the period where Trip was his most paranoid. He's already been passed by three times: Austin took his spot, then Rock exploded and took his spot, then Mick suddenly got hot beyond what anyone could have expected. He did a hell of a job preventing another of those from happening. Folks could say that he didn't with Brock, but we also need to remember what happened after Rock put over Brock strongly to become the Champ: no more "unified champ" defending on both programs, and Trip literally getting handed Flair's belt. Goldberg on the list yet? Trip really went out of his way to put Golderg over and help the company make a lot of money. John
  18. Agree on this. I don't think it was too long into the Rape storyline, the feud with Vince and then the McMahon-Helmlsey alliance at the turn of the year before they were hooked up, at least quietly. I don't recall a definative moment when I'd been told and knew, but it was long before it was public. John
  19. The worst thing about this wasn't that he was beaten so easily, but he was beaten so easily in a storyline where Triple H played a wink wink racist. Completely agree with that one. The way they ran the storyline heading into Mania, there was no way Book could lose. Even if he was kneecapped by dropping the title back at the next PPV, you just can't have Book lose after running a racist storyline leading into Mania. But Trip came up with excuses to do it. John
  20. That might be the greatest line in the history of wrestling boards. John
  21. So is Eric the reason that Dave's coverage of the WCW endgame was behind Wade's? John
  22. Okay... that had me choking on the granola bar that I was eating. John
  23. Eric has been love-hate on Wade for years if I recall. Knew Wade from back in the MN days with the AWA. I was with Wade at Bash at the Beach '95 when he was talking to Eric, and their dealings were good enough that when Eric tried to slide some bullshit by Wade, Wade laughed at it, corrected Eric, and Eric laughed back with a sheepish comment and smile to the effect that he had to try. Latter in Eric's run with WCW, I recall Eric made a scene in a bar afer a show that had Wade scratching his head. So it's up and down. Given the current stuff, I thought they were in a down stretch, so I was surprised to see the Torch on the list. John
  24. I thought Eric had more heat currently with Wade than Dave, so I'm surprised to see the Torch in there. What issue was Dave's review of Eric's book in? I think that as during one of my "lapsed" stages. If it's up on WO-4 in the issues archive, I'll grab it as it probably would be good airplane reading in a couple of weeks. John
