  1. I bet Daniel didn't take him up on drinking. He doesn't seem like much of one, but not a straight-edge guy like Punk (who I'd imagine Flair just loves).
  2. I think anybody with Flair's emotional history who has lost a child has at least thought about suicide. I speak from personal experience in dealing with someone who lost a child who was in their 20's that is entirely possible. Of course I don't know him so it may not apply, but I'd be very surprised if we don't lose him soon. Besides the emotional toll of this recent loss and whatever damage alcohol has done to his body and mind, there's the issue of the fact that he never bothered looking for his real parents which if he did doctors could have access to family health history and such.
  3. This is his IMDB page. It's interesting you brought someone from England up, I think someone in the cast of Alien 3 was a wrestler. I seem to recall hearing David Fincher telling a story about him on the commentary track for one of his films (Zodiac I think). For the record, I think if he showed the same kind of passion towards acting as he did his native profession, Roddy Piper could have been (and who knows, still might get the chance) to give a genuinely great performance or two.
  4. I watched the Real Sports segment with DDP, Jake and Scott the other night. Jake looks better than he has in quite awhile, even possibly since his last run (I'm guessing he's even lighter than he was then). Ditto Scott, and was interesting seeing him with his son. I just bet WWE won't do anything to promote this given it's checkered history with the show and the fact that the final segment of the night was about Donald Trump's attempt to turn part of Scotland into a corporate monstrosity.
  5. I could be wrong but I think Animal backed this up in a shoot interview.
  6. It's a dated joke, but this reminded me of Bill Maher's line about how he'd rather have 64 good Sammy Davis Jr. years than 1,000 Ken Starr years.
  7. DDP tells a great story about how they kept cutting time away from the segment, ultimately to where it was down to four minutes (match included). He was freaking out, but Hall and Nash were cool about it. He also said he was legitimately pissed at something Mark did but didn't quite bury him for it, too.
  8. So, what's the best (or at least notable) performance by a wrestler in a movie/TV show in your estimation?
  9. Steve announced on Twitter that tomorrow he's talking to Ric Flair
  10. During the Monday Night Wars, I was a WCW fan and my brother was the WWF fan although we didn't mind watching both. It would get a little heated sometimes as to which show we would tape that night (for some reason I had a thing about wanting to tape the live Nitro feed over the taped one), but I think it's safe to say we both enjoyed each product to the same degree. I preferred WCW because I had missed out on the original WWF boom and enjoyed seeing the big names from week to week I'd only really known before via videotape. My demerits against WWF at the time was that it seemed to focused on "youth" which even as a pre-teen I felt was kind of lame. But then guys like Vader and Foley came in, and my interest rose a little. It rose quite a bit during the Bret Hart "American heel/Canadian face" period, which I thought was equal to the NWO angle in terms of being interesting television.
  11. I often wonder (because I've heard several testimonies to his character like that) how much of what we like to blame Trips for is actually Vince.
  12. Yeah but I would imagine WWE locker rooms now are practically churches compared to what he's seen.
  13. What else was he responsible for?
  14. Wait, is Naylor dead?
  15. The thing I remember most about this match is that I heard the rumor about the Warrior of this match wasn't the same, from my mother of all people.
  16. Bret in WCW in '92 could have changed EVERYTHING, had they really done something with him and he stayed. Hell, WCW might be still in business.
  17. The more I think about it, you're right. Hogan helping Sid get tossed out was a total bitch move. And an anti-climactic ending to an otherwise stellar Rumble. As to the question, I'd think so. If I try to think with the mark mindset, my money would have been on Hogan winning just because. Flair would certainly have been a possibility. But if I watched it today I'd say that Flair would absolutely have won it. The early draw makes for a compelling story, and the win would set up a big title match at WM for whoever it was to beat him.
  18. Quadrophenia Every match ever filmed that took place in a four-sided ring.
  19. Eh, I keep thinking this thread is more about specifically the fall from grace on the roster than in personal lives and such.
  20. Last guy I can think of (maybe besides Del Rio currently) who pulled of the suits was Batista. I forget which match it was for the build-up for but he came out in a grey number with sunglasses. Besides the flashy suit (something he probably gleaned off from being with Flair), he gave off a heavy vibe of intimidation. He looked more like Tom Sizemore in the bank shootout in Heat than he did a pro wrestler.
  21. It was mentioned a few times during the show.
  22. Man, they should have had Undertaker do a program with Doink instead of Jorge. It would largely be a homage to the Batman/Joker dynamic but it could have worked in a pro wrestling setting.
  23. It also had international prestige to some extent too.
