[1990-08-27-WWF-Summerslam] Rick Rude vs Ultimate Warrior (Cage)
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
I have heard that the blue cage was more stiff than regular cages of the time. Yet it has the rep it does. Strange.- 17 replies

Nobody is going to mention Vince's dye job?

[1996-11-18-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin vs Mankind

I thought it was really interesting how they had Austin work other heels during this time.- 18 replies

The Ultimate Warrior matches were, I believe. They sure as hell didn't call it in the ring.

Randy Savage liked to pre-plan matches too, and nobody with at least half a brain said he couldn't work. I like DDP. He was good for WCW when his stock rose. He wasn't perfect at everything but there was a passion that came through, and still does. He has the charisma a professional wrestler should have.

I'm not as familiar with this period, but what little I've seen of Backlund didn't make me feel that he was as disliked by the audience as some claim. It could be true, but again with what little I did watch I didn't see it.

[1996-12-02-WCW-Nitro] NWO take over announce booth
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in December 1996
I remember those rumors being particularly strong then. Looking back, it would have been terrific if they did get Randy back. I posted elsewhere my fantasy scenario of him coming back. Vince stands in the middle of the ring, announces him back (in the way he could only do). Randy comes out, hi-5's the audience, shakes Vince's hand and they start the interview off with all the pleasantries. Then the interview gets serious, and at some point Vince slips up. He refers to him as you-know-what. Randy stops in his tracks, slowly takes off his glasses (in the way he could only do), and loses his cool. Him and Vince jaw it out before Randy finally attacks, going as far as giving him the elbow before Shawn Michaels comes in and does the rescue. And your hype for WrestleMania 13 begins. A solid main event everyone can get behind, Randy gets his glory and Shawn doesn't lose his smile.- 10 replies

I'm warming up a bit to Steve's style. Listening to his interviews first, then I'll probably get to his solo stuff.

If it's what he wanted, and WWE wants to put him in, they should just bring Lanny and Angelo in. The Genius was a great character and Lanny was a good worker and good on the stick as well. I don't know a whole lot about Angelo's career, but you'd think Vince would admire him for what he did with ICW in relation to what Vince eventually did nation-wide. -
[1996-09-23-WWF-Raw] Marc Mero vs Faarooq
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in September 1996
Yes he did. This surprised me, as I thought he was Jewish for some reason. He is Jewish. Wouldn't be surprised if it was part of the semi-blackface thing that carried over a little from his WCW gimmick.- 13 replies

That's the primary reason why I didn't think he was good then, if I think back to what separated Lawler during that time to his predecessors. I suspect why a lot of why Jerry got better is because of Jim Ross. I remember more stuff with the two of them after Jerry came back than in 1999, and they were a damn good team up until J.R. was moved out.

I believe it, mostly because of his dad getting inducted into WCW's hall only months after Randy signed. I'm surprised that Randy never did a proper shoot interview outside the little bits and pieces out already. Maybe just part of him wanting to get out of the spotlight. -
Maybe it's just me then. I heard a little about him from Apter mags but didn't see him on television until he made his debut on Prime Time in '92. Looking back, some of what he said was funny but I despair a little because Heenan could have lifted the product so much during those lean years when he was in WCW not doing a whole lot.

The woman-beater part of his gimmick turned me off completely to him. My less-than-restrained feelings on the subject aside, it's just cheap as shit heat.
