  1. Ostensibly the four top guys in the promotion are Lesnar, Cena, Rollins and Ambrose with Reigns injured. Every one of those guys came out of the main event looking worse
  2. No words to describe the way they ended that show. I imagine some people will pretend it was good. I did like the match
  3. Gotta give Orton and Jericho credit. Yes the finish was absurdly telegraphed, but they worked hard, got the crowd into the math and it ended up being pretty good.
  4. Jericho v. Orton is the epitome of "who gives a fuck?" wrestling
  5. No clue what to make of that. I loved Henry's pre-match tears and there were aspects of the match I thought were smart, but Rusev struggles to work compelling control segments in matches that aren't sprintish.
  6. That match was really not half bad at all. Both guys tried hard. But the shit going on around the match was so ridiculous that the segment itself was hard to watch.
  7. Parv hit many of the highpoints. If the Mulligan MACW match is on youtube, I'd encourage you to watch that. Also the aforementioned matches with Reed and Lawler should be on youtube. I would also encourage people to watch his bodyslam match with Bravo on Youtube and the random match he had with Kevin Kelly in 86 after he had nothing but schtick left which I think is a good example of carrying a total guy with bullshit.
  8. Sheamus v. Cesaro was solid, but underwhelming, and then it just exploded. By the time it was over I ended up thinking the pacing and the layout of the first third of the match was actually really smart and not so disjointed. Loved the psychology around Sheamus kick, and even though it's not fresh, I always like that rope a dope finish. Still not as good as last years Main Event match, but this was a great use of two of the three best in ring performers on the current roster
  9. I enjoyed that match as a whole, but I'm not in love with The Rhodes as heels, let alone as heel champions. Seems bizarre that this was what the long Usos reign was building too. This did have some great cut off spots, and some really smart moments, but I didn't think this was a high end match for either team
  10. What have you seen? I can request matches to help fill in gaps
  11. Would match rather Cody Rhodes be doing a Scientology high school era, Darby Crash gimmick, than a Ziggy Stardust era Bowie gimmick

    Ric Flair

I rarely post about modern indie wrestling here. But I do talk about it often on Twitter and WKO.

    Ric Flair

It seems to me like people just don't like it when Flair is criticized. Over the course of this project we will see who can and who can't go "toe-to-toe" with Flair career v. career. I'll say flat out - not many are able to. But I do believe there are several people who are at least in the discussion with him. He's not an unquestionably, obvious one, who's peak lapped the field, or at least I've not been convinced by anyone who has tried to present that case. Also worth noting that I have written and talked about post-prime Ricky Morton (including this year) and others as well because I watch that stuff. How much wrestling from the last fifteen years have you watched Parv?

I watch every Funk match that shows up every year if that answers your question.

I don't necessarily consider Flair's post-peak as a whole, because I think it was so long and the quality of what he was doing varied greatly. For example if you think his peak ended in 90,the WWF run through around 94 is still very good stuff. 95-97? Eh. I don't hate it, but it's a mixed bag. Dying days WCW? Bad, but not entirely his fault. Evolution-era? I wouldn't call it smart - in fact I thought Flair was in the running for worst guy in the world during much of this run. American Onita Flair? Loved it.

I'm also pretty baffled at the notion that Matt's application of principles is inconsistent or has changed all of the sudden. If anything I think Matt is TOO consistent in how he looks at wrestling

I only hold it against Flair in the context of a debate like this which is based on the sequential ordering of people. In a GOAT debate you sometimes look for tiebreakers or variables that may separate two very close candidates. One of those variables (for me) is someones work in their post prime. Notably this is not the ONLY variable. But I don't get and never will get the argument that it should not be considered in the context of a project like this
  18. I actually think that series reflects poorly on both of them, and that both guys were better than what they did in the series. I don't think either guy is an all timer, and wouldn't consider either for this poll, but if you are looking strictly at NJPW, DK had the Fujinami match and some tag matches I prefer and I thought the TM series with Kobayashi was good, plus Iiked several of his other one off matches (most notably the Steven Wright match). Outside NJPW, I enjoy Sayama the shooter well enough, and DK was solid in his role in Portland.
  19. Just counted and there are 31 performers I could see myself voting for in right situation, though of those close to half are one's I would want to research a lot more. I am thinking of picking a top nine an having a poll/discussion on PWO to help me with my tenth pick.
  20. I hear people make this point, but this is an HoF where Baron Leone and Maurice Tillet have never been on the ballot, JYD is just going on for the first time this year, and guys like Angle, Tanahashi and Benoit have coasted in relatively easily.

    Ron Garvin

Just want to note that everyone here should watch the Garvins v. Rougeaus matches if you are on the fence on Garvin. That will take you right off the fence and put you in the "he's on my ballot" category. One of the most underrated feuds of the 80s
  22. The HOF voters were blinded by Angle's medals argument predates the existence of this board
  23. Dylan Waco

    Ron Garvin

Garvin checks all the boxes for me. 1. Good tag worker? Yep. 2. Good heel? Yep. 3 Good face? Yep. 4. Strong resume of great memorable matches and feuds? Yep. 5. Good in a variety of settings against a variety of opponents? Yep. 6. Strong mechanics? Yep. 7. Versatility of mechanics? Yep. He's not an absolute upper tier guy or anything, but Garvin is someone who would have play his way off of my list, not play his way on
  24. I think there can be a dismissive tone, but I also think people can be really sensitive/reactionary when confronted with an opinion that challenges an assumption. I know I am like this to a degree, and used to be even more so.
  25. I think it's bizarre to make appeals to the broader popularity of a wrestler and then complain about groupthink.
